December 8, 2025 - Season 16, Episode 60 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Monday morning episode, Alex Kozora and I get right into our overarching thoughts on the Pittsburgh Steelers' Week 14 Sunday road game against the Baltimore Ravens. We also discuss the Steelers now leading the AFC North and having their playoff chances rise significantly after beating the Ravens. In our weekly housekeeping portion of this Monday show, which is sponsored by the fine folks at TouringPlans.com, Alex and I talk about the Sunday afternoon inactive list and how it surprisingly included WR Roman Wilson. We talk about WR Adam Thielen and WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling both being active on Sunday along with WR Scotty Miller and why HC Mike Tomlin seemingly decided to go in that direction. The Steelers sustained several injuries Sunday, so we discuss what happened to TE Darnell Washington, ILB Malik Harrison, and T Andrus Peat. We also discuss the Monday morning report of WR DK Metcalf needing to stay behind in Baltimore Sunday evening because of stomach pains and how he needed to go to a hospital to get checked out. After going through the newsy items related to injuries and the Sunday inactive list, Alex and I look at what all transpired at M&T Bank Stadium against the Ravens. We first talk about the play of the Steelers' offense and how we saw the deep passing game come alive. We also discuss what a great game that QB Aaron Rodgers played against the Ravens. We make sure to highlight the great play and extra effort of Metcalf on Sunday. We also make sure to hit on the Steelers running game being poor against the Ravens and how the offense failed to move the ball any in their final three possessions, all of which came in the fourth quarter. We then discuss the Steelers' defense doing just enough to win on Sunday and how several individual efforts on that side of the football played a big part in the victory. We also discuss the Ravens offense was unable to make key plays late in the game that could have won the game for them. We go over how the Steelers run defense still has room for quite a bit of improvement after Sunday's win in Baltimore. Obviously, there were several controversial plays that happened during Sunday's game, so Alex and I go over the three huge ones, all of which went in the Steelers' favor. We go over those plays by including what was said in the media pool report interview that took place with the game's referee Alex Moore and NFL Vice President of Instant Replay Mark Butterworth. After completely breaking down the Sunday game against the Ravens, Alex and I then address the Saturday report concerning Tomlin and his current contract and how it includes an option decision in March of 2026 for his 2027 year. We also discuss the NFL calendar in relation to March 1 and how Tomlin reportedly has a no-trade clause in his contract. Alex and I discuss how it's almost guarantees that Tomlin will be the head coach of the Steelers through at least the 2026 season and how team president Art Rooney II will more than likely exercise the 2027 year by this coming March 1. After discussing the Tomlin contract situation, Alex and I look at the AFC North division and the current playoff seeding. We also discuss how the Steelers' final regular season game against the Ravens may or may not have meaning by the time we get to Week 18. This 105-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted and we wrap things up by answering several emails we received from listeners. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. The Steelers come off an embarrassing loss to the Buffalo Bills, a game in which they gave up a record 249 yards on the ground in Pittsburgh. Now, the noise regarding Mike Tomlin's future with the team are at an all time high. When former Steelers legends James Harrison and Ben Roethlisberger both say they think its time to move on from head man, people start to take notice. Unfortunately for the Steelers, the next team up on the schedule is an AFC North matchup that takes the team to Baltimore, a team who put up a record 300 yards on the ground in their last meeting. Join Jeremy Kohlman and Wil Masisak as they break down the team's performance against the Bills, explore what lies ahead — including the pivotal matchup with the Ravens — and take a tour around the NFL, where Week 14 delivers several playoff-caliber showdowns.
Asante Samuel Sr. called out DK Metcalf for some of the Steelers issues. The big-name WR isn't living up to it in his first year wearing black & gold. Has Metcalf skated by this season because the Steelers have bigger issues? Poni thinks Metcalf should be getting way more flack for his bad year. He has just one 100-yard game this season and usually doesn't exceed 50 in a game. Are the Steelers having buyer's remorse on the Metcalf deal? KDKA TV's Bob Pompeani joined the show. Bob was emceeing the Riverhounds championship celebration today, the lone team to bring a title to the city in this decade. Bob reminded us that he wanted the Steelers to keep George Pickens around, which isn't helping the fact that DK Metcalf is having a career-worst season. Bob agreed that this game doesn't have its usual juice because the fanbases have a lot of self-loathing going on. Bob thinks the Steelers are going to win a 3-point game in Baltimore. On the Wednesday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by FanDuel and Edgar Snyder and Associates, host Adam Bittner welcomes Post-Gazette Steelers insider Christopher Carter to sort through the offense's current issues. Is OC Arthur Smith to blame for what's gone wrong during the skid of four losses in the last six games? Or is the execution simply not good enough right now? From QB Aaron Rodgers having a rough outing against the Los Angeles Chargers. To backup Mason Rudolph missing open receivers in the NFL Week 12 loss to the Chicago Bears? And what are the chances Smith will be on coach Mike Tomlin's staff next season? Our duo tackles those questions, then some of Chris' grades from his film study. Is DK Metcalf's skill set just a bad fit with what the Steelers are trying to do right? Especially in comparison to George Pickens, the guy Metcalf replaced as WR1? Were safeties Jalen Ramsey and Kyle Dugger bad against Caleb Williams and the Bears offense? Or were schematics to blame for their blown coverages? Is the young offensive line led by Broderick Jones, Troy Fautanu, Mason McCormick and Zach Frazier becoming a strength? And is Yaya Black prepared to fill in for the injured Derrick Harmon this week on the defensive line? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. On this week's podcast, we have a natter about the episodes of Coronation Street shown between the 10th and the 14th November (Episodes #11,711 - 11,716). This week, we were treated to another Kate Brooks patented 'event episode' of Corrie, with all the funny camera effects and timey-wimey shenanigans that they so often entail. This time, it's David and Shona who were under the spotlight, with a half-episode that told the story of their tragic trip to the hospital told directly through the characters' eyes - internal commentary and all. We've seen mixed opinions on this since it aired, and had plenty to say about the format ourselves! Another focus this week was Will's story - when we said that we wanted the Rovers at the heart of Corrie, was a teenage grooming story the sort of thing we were asking for? Not at all, but are we enjoying it nonetheless? Also this week, Fizz bubbles over at work after struggling to run the household with minimal support from wheelchair-bound Tyrone, Kevin nearly loses his car in a game of poker and Joni returns to the Metcalf household - though Tim seems far more occupied with what's going on on Tricia's Insta... Not a whole lot in the way of news to discuss this week - although we do make the time to offer a somewhat cynical look at this week's Corriedale viewer vote - and we round off the show with more of your listener feedback.

On the Wednesday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by FanDuel and Edgar Snyder & Associates, host Adam Bittner welcomes Post-Gazette Steelers insider Christopher Carter to analyze the team's struggling pass catcher group. Was Calvin Austin III's poor performance in NFL Week 10 against the Los Angeles Chargers the latest sign that he's not a suitable No. 2 at wide receiver next to DK Metcalf? Does Roman Wilson deserve more snaps in his place as he's found some momentum with QB Aaron Rodgers in recent weeks? Does he have a higher ceiling than Austin does? And what solutions does Chris have in mind for Metcalf? Our duo tackles those questions, then talks tight ends. Why isn't OC Arthur Smith using Jonnu Smith as more of a downfield threat? Will we ever see anything approaching the guy who caught nearly 90 passes a year ago with the Miami Dolphins? Why does Rodgers seem to like throwing to Darnell Washington so much? And where is the happy medium for Pat Freiermuth between the sky-high expectations have for him and his limited role in some games? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. See pcm.adswizz.com for information about our collection and use of personal data for advertising.
On the Tuesday episode of the North Shore Drive podcast, presented by FanDuel, host Noah Hiles welcomes Post-Gazette Steelers insider Ray Fittipaldo analyze receiver DK Metcalf's lack of production in recent weeks. Who's to blame for the talented receiver's struggles? Are there things the player himself could be doing better? Is QB Aaron Rodgers the problem? Or is OC Arthur Smith just not calling enough for Metcalf as he juggles other targets including Calvin Austin III, Pat Freiermuth, Darnell Washington, Jonnu Smith and Roman Wilson? Then later, the guys ponder the state of the secondary as it prepares for an NFL Week 11 rematch with Joe Flacco, Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and the AFC North rival Cincinnati Bengals. Will CB Darius Slay be available? If not, can James Pierre and Brandin Echols step up next to Jalen Ramsey and Joey Porter Jr.? And what adjustments can coach Mike Tomlin and DC Teryl Austin make to avoid a dominant performance by Chase like we saw in the last meeting? Our duo tackles those questions and more. -There are former Steelers asking why the team didn't make any moves at the trade deadline to better the team. One believes if the defense needed help, Mike Tomlin would have made sure an acquisition took place. If the Steelers added somebody like Jakobi Meyers, where would that put them in the AFC? Do we still think it was a mistake that they didn't do anything ahead of the deadline, outside of the Kyle Dugger move from over a week ago? The guys questioned whether or not the Steelers thinking about the draft was a smart move. How much say did Mike have in comparison to the owner and GM? – Pitt QB Mason Heintschel joined the show. Mason said his favorite football jersey is his Patrick Mahomes one from around 2018. He was a 3-sport athlete in high school, so the guys asked him about his HS exploits. Mason told the guys why he is a Tennessee Titans fan. He joked that the Titans upset playoff win over the Ravens a few years back was ‘one of the best days of his life.' Mason said baseball was a little bit too slow of a sport for him to get into. What was Mason's motivation getting into college football? Mason said scoring on the first drive in his first start really raised his confidence level. Mason watches a lot of Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert film. He added Drew Brees to that list. He talked about the role his parents have played in where he's at. Mason talked about the confidence instilled in him, but the fine line you have to walk. He said he's not much of a trash talker on the field, but Pitt has no shortage of that. The guys asked Mason about his chat with Jon Gruden that was published earlier in the week – saying Gruden may be at the Pitt-Notre Dame game next weekend. Mason said he is using the bye week to get a little bit ahead of Notre Dame even with the Panthers winning 5 straight games. Mason talked about the trip to Florida State, playing in front of a hostile crowd, and coming out of it with a win. Mason credited some high school classes for why he has no issue public speaking or doing a full-length interview. Did Mason have any relationship with Bruce Gradkowski, who was a Toledo football legend? – Former Pitt QB Pat Bostick joined the show. Pat talked to the guys about Mason Heintschel and how special of a young man he is. The guys talked about what has transpired at QB with Pitt in the last 12 months. Pat described Mason as a ‘football junkie' and said he was watching film when he was the third QB on the depth chart. What kind of pitch does Pitt have to put forth to make sure Mason is back next season in the NIL/transfer portal era of college football? What led to such love for Notre Dame and the Catholic contingent that roots on the Fighting Irish? The guys said Marcus Freeman is easier to like than just about any coach in ND history. Can Pitt stand up to the Irish next Saturday? What kind of resume is Pitt giving to the College Football Playoff committee?

Your city just legalized “missing middle” housing in its zoning code… now what? With Memphis, Tennessee, as a case study, John Zeanah and Andre D. 'Beyond Zoning' Abstract:In recent years, planners have made zoning reform a key priority to enable housing supply, including “missing middle” housing … This article explores the barriers beyond zoning that can hold back development of middle-scale housing. It begins with a background on why these lesser-known codes matter for housing diversity. This is followed by a case study of a project in Memphis, highlighting the non-zoning barriers posed to the development of an infill collection of cottages and small apartment buildings, and how they were overcome. Next, the article delves into specific categories of barriers, from building codes and fire safety mandates to infrastructure and local ordinances, explaining how each can impede middle-scale housing projects. Finally, it concludes with an Action Steps for Planners section, offering implementable strategies for reforming codes and coordinating across departments to unlock middle-scale housing development.

Offense vs Purdue Starts at :57 This podcast starts out telepathically but then Brian's intrusive thoughts got telepathed so it had to stop. Dave introduces the Snack of the Week. Would you rather talk about this game or Dunkaroos? Bryce Underwood - not good in the first half. A fumble on the sideline is usually harmless unless it involves the silliest rule in football. His scrambling was good but you can't build a business in this industry by scrambling, that will get you killed against Ohio State. Too many missed passes, he doesn't really settle in. By the Georgia game, JJ was probably where Bryce is now - many mistakes but you can see the talent. On the flip side, the offensive line had a great game. Purdue loaded the box but Jordan Marshall rushed for 185 yards anyways. You can't tackle him with just one guy, he will emerge from piles. This is the fourth straight game where Sprague has been incredible. Bryson Kuzdzal had some nice runs on the game-sealing drive. Tight ends were fine, more catches by Zack Marshall. There's not a lot of separation between Marshall and Klein. Semaj had way fewer snaps, Goodwin saw more time. You have six 2nd or 3rd year players on this offensive line that can absolutely play in this conference. The future of the offensive line is bright. 2. Defense vs Purdue Starts at 41:43 How do we even feel about the defensive performance? We've seen Purdue all season be an offense that moves the ball down the field but can't score. That happened but it felt bad. Cam Brandt was too far upfield on a couple big run plays. Why are the good defensive ends not on the field for 70% of the snaps that they should be out for? Why are the starters rotating out so much throughout the game? Assuming he's healthy, do you put Jaishawn Barham at DE or LB against Ohio State? Michigan didn't commit to a position for him and it's hurting his play. Way fewer three defensive tackle sets, yay. If your name is going to be "Michael Jackson" you need to go by "Mike". Jyaire Hill got sealed a couple times but was otherwise fine. The endzone DPI was DPI. Metcalf got sucked in during the touchdown. 3. Hot Takes, Game Theory, and Special Teams Starts at 1:06:04 Takes hotter than the amount of trouble Jason would get into if he did the Hot Takes voice at a golf tournament where he was during recording. Michigan has not been good at Special Teams Things, why are they running kickoffs out of the middle of the endzone? Another punt that Semaj didn't field that gave up 20 yards. Did Jay Harbaugh have a heat map for punting? We've never had to talk so much about shield punting positioning but now we have to. Clock management at the end of the first half was pretty on-point. Purdue's 4th down decision making was aggressive which you do if you want to try to win the game. Shout out to Michigan fans for feeding energy back into the team in the 4th quarter. The students did the shirtless thing that's become a college football thing. Also shout out to Barry Odom for getting the Purdue bench fired up. 4. Around the Big Ten with Jamie Mac Starts at 1:28:22 Indiana 55, Maryland 10 This is a typical Indiana game these days. Indiana's offense is a machine. The defense is... also a machine?? Every week, Indiana has some weird defensive stat that's historical and worth tracking. Mendoza threw and interception on his first play, the game was wobbly for about a quarter. Ohio State 38, Penn State 14 Briefly competitive in the 2nd quarter. Penn State is the first top five team in the history of college football to lose five straight games. Julian Sayin had 14 yards per attempt. Ohio State finally catches a break and gets an obvious targeting call to not get enforced. Minnesota 23, Michigan State 20 (OT) MSU benches Aidan Chiles for Alessio Milivojevic. The Spartans lose this game despite outgaining Minnesota by about 160 yards. The final two minutes of this game are worth watching. Northwestern QB Aidan Chiles?? Alessio had a better EPA than Chiles any other game this season. USC 21, Nebraska 17 If you like offense, don't look at this game. We are suddenly having feelings about Wink Martindale. Dylan Raiola is done for the season and USC is able to grind out a win. Raiola's backup went 5/7 for 7 yards. Illinois 35, Rutgers 13 A solid victory for Illinois, most of Rutgers' yards are when it was 35-6. Bert: "I put us as good as any 6-3 team out there. That doesn't mean anything." Bowl eligible in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2011. Illinois is the new Wisconsin. Post-Gazette Steelers insiders Gerry Dulac and Ray Fittipaldo reacts to the team's NFL Week 9 victory against the Indianapolis Colts at Acrisure Stadium. Why do linebackers T.J. Watt, Alex Highsmith and Payton Wilson deserve the most credit for the defense's dominant day, which included six forced turnovers against Daniel Jones, Jonathan Taylor, Tyler Warren and a Colts offense that entered the game producing at a historic pace? Was the offense a concern in gaining less than 300 yards? Or did Aaron Rodgers, DK Metcalf, Jaylen Warren, Darnell Washington and Pat Freiermuth prove how dangerous they can be if other teams make mistakes? Did Kyle Dugger show how valuable he can be to this defense in his Steelers debut at safety? And what moves might GM Omar Khan have up his sleeve before the NFL trade deadline? Could he add a No. 2 receiver? Or did Sunday prove that there's not much room for another big name beyond Metcalf in this tight end-heavy offense? Our duo tackles those questions and more. The Steelers were outclassed by Packers and Aaron Rodgers lost out on his chance to beat his former team in a 35-25 loss in Pittsburgh. Well the Steelers got embarrassed by the Joe Flacco led Bengals this past week on Thursday Night Football. While the offense was able to keep up and almost had a chance to win on a patented Aaron Rodgers Hail Mary attempt, the defense looked slow, lethargic, and didn't make the necessary changes to stop the Bengals from advancing and scoring. Join your hosts Jeremy Kohlman, Wil Masisak, and Korey Karbowsky as they lament the loss against the Bengals, look ahead to Sunday Night Football matchup against the Packers (Aaron Rodgers former team if you didn't know), and look around the NFL for some other games that should be fun to watch.
In this episode we'll look back on a Steelers season in which they often vacillated between greatness and disaster. One week, they would look like Super Bowl contenders, shutting down elite teams with fierce defense and innovative offense. The next week, they would unravel against bottom-tier opponents, plagued by turnovers and baffling special teams mistakes. This unpredictable journey led to a memorable playoff game that perfectly captured the chaos of their season - a thrilling mix of greatness and disaster.REWIND is a series of our favorite Pittsburgh Sports Memories episodes that we will be dropping in between new episodesGet our Steelers-Ravens book here! Off The Bench is back weekdays from 10a to 11a followed by The Stone Shields Show from 11a to noon! In a clash of AFC North titans gone awry, the surging Pittsburgh Steelers (4-1) invade Paycor Stadium to face a reeling Cincinnati Bengals squad (2-4) on Thursday Night Football. What was once a marquee rivalry now feels like a tale of two trajectories: Pittsburgh's three-game win streak has vaulted them to the division lead, while Cincinnati's four straight losses—capped by a 27-18 defeat to Green Bay—have sparked desperation. Joe Burrow's toe injury sidelining him until December forced a midseason pivot, trading for veteran Joe Flacco from Cleveland. The 40-year-old gunslinger debuted last week with 219 yards and two scores, injecting life into an offense dormant under Jake Browning. Pittsburgh, meanwhile, rides Aaron Rodgers' renaissance. The 41-year-old maestro boasts a career-best 105.4 passer rating through five games, with 10 touchdowns and just three picks, slicing defenses for 1,021 yards. His rapport with DK Metcalf has been lethal—Metcalf's four straight TD catches include a scorching 80-yarder—exploiting yards after catch like no other. The Steelers' ground game, turbocharged by Arthur Smith's "Jumbo" packages featuring 290-pound TE Darnell Washington, has averaged 4.4 yards per carry against Cincy's porous 28th-ranked run D. Cincinnati counters with firepower: Ja'Marr Chase erupted for a late TD last outing, and Flacco's familiarity with Pittsburgh—he's 11-11 lifetime against them—could neutralize Mike Tomlin's schemes. Yet injuries loom large: Bengals DE Trey Hendrickson (hip) is questionable, thinning their pass rush (just 3.7% sack rate sans him), while Steelers miss WR Calvin Austin III (shoulder) and S Miles Killebrew (knee). Betting odds tilt toward Pittsburgh as 5.5-point road favorites (O/U 44.5), with sharp money sniffing Bengals value at +225 ML. This gerontocratic QB duel—the third in NFL history pitting 40+ starters—promises fireworks under the lights. Expect Metcalf to feast (Over 70.5 receiving yards) and Pittsburgh's D to force turnovers (Cincy leads the league with 11 giveaways). Steelers pull away late in a 27-20 thriller, solidifying North supremacy. But don't sleep on Flacco's upset magic—after all, these helmets hide Bengal stripes. [This is one of the finalists in the 2025 review contest, written by an ACX reader who will remain anonymous until after voting is done. I'll be posting about one of these a week for several months. When you've read them all, I'll ask you to vote for a favorite, so remember which ones you liked] I. THE TASTE OF VICTORY The Tupinambá people ate their enemies. This fact scared Hans Staden, a German explorer who was captured by Tupinambá warriors in 1554, when they caught him by surprise during a hunting expedition. As their prisoner for nearly a year, Staden observed a number of their cannibalism rituals. They were elaborate, public affairs; here's a description of them from Duffy and Metcalf's The Return of Hans Staden, an assessment of Staden's voyage and claims: (Ch. 2, pg. 51-52) First a rope was placed around the neck of the captive so that he might not escape; at night the rope was tied to the hammock in which the captive slept. Straps that were not removed were placed above and below the knees. The captives were given women, who guarded them and also slept with them. These women were high-status daughters and sisters of chiefs; they were unmarried and sometimes gave birth to the child of a captive. Some of the captives might be held for a period of time until corn was planted and new large clay vessels—for drink and cooking flesh—were made. Guests were invited to the ceremony, and they often arrived eight to fifteen days in advance of it. A special small house was erected, with no walls but with a roof, in which the captives were placed with women and guards two or three days before the ceremony. In the other houses, feathers were prepared for a headdress or for body ornamentation, and inks were made for tattoos. Women and girls prepared fifty to one hundred vats of fermented manioc beer. Then, when all was ready, they painted the victim's face blue, mounted a headdress of wax covered with feathers on him, and wound a cotton cord around his waist. The guests began to drink in the afternoon and continued all through the night. At dawn, the one who was to do the killing came out with a long, painted wooden club and smashed the captive on the head, splitting it open. The attacker then withdrew for eight to fifteen days of abstinence while the others ate the cooked flesh of the captive and finished all of the drink made for the occasion. https://www.astralcodexten.com/p/your-review-the-synaptic-plasticity
