The Washington Commanders made a number of moves this past week, most notably cutting 2024 5th round pick LB Dominique Hampton, whom Amit was high on. A move had to be made after the beatdown that took place against the New England Patriots. We brought in LB Duke Riley in his place. Other additions were CB Antonio Hamilton Sr. and CB Essang Bassey. The Commanders also did an intrasquad scrimmage, splitting the teams into a Burgundy team and Gold team. The Burgundy team was the 1st team offense and 2nd team defense, while the Gold team was the 1st team defense and the 2nd team offense. The Gold team won 14-0, blanking the 1st team offense and Jayden Daniels had a tough day, proving he's human.More notably, Terry McLaurin and Adam Peters were seen talking to one another at practice. Is this something or nothing? Additionally, Charles Robinson went on with Andrew Siciliano and Frank Schwab and dropped some thoughts on the Terry McLaurin situation, along with how the league views Adam Peters. The Commanders host the Cincinnati Bengals on a preseason edition of Monday Night Football. Adam Hurrey is joined on the midweek Adjudication Panel by Charlie Eccleshare and David Walker. On the agenda: the nichest world record in football is shattered once again, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's ex-footballer/Strictly contestant spiel, the extinguishing of Celeste's five-year Sky Sports flame, why Dominic Calvert-Lewin to Leeds just feels so right, throwaway footballspeak in Homer's Iliad and the Robert Earnshaw of bedwetting. Meanwhile, the panel run through some niche Premier League predictions for 2025-26, including the first 10 guests on Monday Night Football. Welcome back to "In The Trenches with Dave Lapham," presented by First Star Logistics! As the Cincinnati Bengals push deeper into their 2025 training camp, the initial excitement gives way to the grueling reality of the NFL grind. Dave Lapham was on hand for the weekend's practices and provides his expert analysis as the team enters what is notoriously known as the "dog days" of training camp. In this episode, Lapham joins Dave Berk to break down the key takeaways from the practice field. Right off the bat, Lapham is incredibly impressed with the readiness of the Bengals' primary offensive weapons. He asserts that Joe Burrow, Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, and Chase Brown look like they could play a regular-season game tomorrow. Their sharpness, understanding of the offense, and phenomenal physical condition are on full display, signaling that the core of this high-powered attack is primed for a big year. Lapham goes as far as to say he believes this 2025 Bengals roster, from top to bottom, has the potential to be the best in the entire National Football League. A major focus of any Bengals discussion is the offensive line, a unit that has been under scrutiny in recent seasons. Lapham provides a nuanced perspective on their progress. He discusses the coaching staff's strategy of moving players around to different positions, emphasizing the critical importance of versatility. In the modern NFL, the ability for a lineman to play multiple spots—like guard and tackle, or on both the left and right sides—is invaluable. This not only creates depth but also forces players to elevate their technical understanding of the game. Lapham draws on his own extensive career to explain how mastering different positions is a hallmark of a long-term, successful player. He gives a special mention to younger players like Jalen Rivers, highlighting how this cross-training is essential for them to secure a roster spot. On the defensive side of the ball, Lapham identifies a couple of position groups that have pleasantly surprised him with their depth and talent: the defensive ends and the secondary. He notes that the Bengals have a significantly larger number of athletes ready to compete at an NFL level in these areas than in recent years. This abundance of capable players is creating a fiercely competitive environment, pushing everyone to elevate their game. Lapham is particularly impressed with the mindset of these players, who are not just physically gifted but are mentally prepared for the fight, day in and day out. The conversation also turns to the topic of injuries. While minor injuries are an unavoidable part of any training camp across the league, Lapham reports that the Bengals appear to be managing them well. He suggests that the current ailments are minor and shouldn't cost any key players significant time once the regular season begins. The medical and training staff are being cautious, ensuring that minor issues don't escalate into major problems, a testament to their proactive approach to player health. A spotlight is shone on safety Tycen Anderson, who is taking advantage of increased reps to prove he's more than just a special teams ace. Lapham describes Anderson as a highly intelligent and competitive player who is "thirsting for more." His desire to understand the intricacies of the defense and his constant questioning of the coaches' schemes showcase a player with a high football IQ and a drive to become a significant contributor on defense. Finally, Lapham offers a deep dive into the psychology of surviving the dog days of training camp. He explains that this is the period where mental fortitude is just as important as physical conditioning. The long days, the repetition, and the physical toll require a professional mindset focused on recovery, proper nutrition, and rest. With a Monday Night Football preseason game on the horizon, the Bengals face a long week of work, providing a perfect opportunity to instill game plans and test the team's focus before they face a short week leading into their final preseason contest.
HANK WILLIAMS, JR. / WHISKEY BENT AND HELL BOUND / ELEKTRA, 1979I have a good story about Hank Williams, Jr., aka “Bocephus:” My late wife, Chemayne grew up in the backstages and dressing rooms of the biggest rock n roll arenas in the Southeast. Her mom worked for a couple of regional mega promoters, and Chemayne had many encounters with such 70's luminaries as Willy Nelson, James Taylor, Roger Daltry, Mick Jagger, Elton John, etc. One memorable meeting involved the son of “The Hillbilly Shakespeare.” I guess she was about eight, and Hank decided to take out and display his glass eye in order to tease her. Freaked her out so bad the memory was burned into her brain for all time. Hank worked hard to cultivate his Outlaw image, and to both embrace, and out run the weight of his father's immense legacy, and along the way he kicked the shit out of himself, but made some damn fine records. This album was created during his high point of the late 70s-early 80s when his combination of Country, blues, and Rock went main stream - between his monster hits Family Tradition, and All My Rowdy Friends Have Settled Down. He was so big that in the early 90s he became the identifiable voice of Monday Night Football. Not only did he embody his own “Family Tradition”, but America's as well, it seems. It's worth noting also that the disc was produced by Jimmy Bowen, who also produced Frank Sinatra's Strangers in the Night - which demonstrates some cross over wizardry in service of one of Country music's arguably biggest cross over artists.

The Sports Experience Podcast with Chris Quinn and Dominic DiTolla
Episode 305 of “The Sports Experience Podcast” is here & we're back on the gridiron discussing Don Meredith. The Dallas Cowboys are considered by their fanbase to be “America's Team.” “Dandy Don” Meredith was the quarterback who brought them from a lowly expansion franchise to a dominant force in the NFL.After a successful college career at Southern Methodist University during which he was named a 1st Team All-American in 1958 and 1959, Meredith became the first Dallas Cowboy after he signed a personal-services contract with future owner Clint Murchison before the 1960 NFL season. Meredith was then selected by the Chicago Bears in the 1960 NFL Draft and traded by George Halas to Dallas to help the new franchise compete with the Dallas Texans in the AFL.Though Meredith struggled along with the rest of the Cowboys during the early 1960s, “Dandy Don” established himself as one of the league's best passers over the rest of the decade. Meredith made three straight Pro Bowls from 1966-1968, won the Bert Bell MVP Award in 1966 and came within seconds leading the Cowboys to Super Bowls I and II.The losses to Green Bay in the 1966 and 1967 (The Ice Bowl) NFL Title Games along with a loss the following year in the postseason to Cleveland prevented Meredith from reaching a Super Bowl.Though Meredith retired following the 1968 campaign, he found legendary status in the “Monday Night Football” booth for ABC. A charismatic color commentator, Meredith was a perfect fit and remained near the game even after his retirement.Though he never won a Super Bowl for the Cowboys, “Dandy Don” will forever be a legend and pioneer for the franchise.Watch, Subscribe & Comment on All Platforms:Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/nz/podcast/the-sports-experience-podcast-with-chris-quinn/id1529622054Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1esgBLz04MZYrTgYMk5DvaConnect with us on Instagram!Chris Quinn: https://www.instagram.com/cquinncomedy/Dominic DiTolla: https://www.instagram.com/ditolladominic/Ty Engle:https://www.instagram.com/ty_englestudio/S.E.P.: https://www.instagram.com/thesportsexperiencepodcast/If you enjoy our podcast, please help support us:https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-sports-experience-pod/support#sportspodcast#comedypodcast#dallascowboys#football#nfl#mondaynightfootball#quarterback#cowboys

Welcome to our marathon of 50 Over 50 Podcaster award winners! Today's episode is one of 19 story hosted by Cheryl Holling The guest, Christy Harst,(that originally aired in May of 2024), has been heard on the World Series, Monday Night Football, and the NBA Finals as one of the national voices of YouTubeTV. She's also the national voice of John Deere, and has voiced dozens of television, streaming, and radio ads. Her career in voiceover began in college when she applied for a news internship at a local classical radio station. It was during her interview that the station manager told her she had a good voice, escorted her to the studio, recorded her reading the Star Spangled Banner and then suggested, “You'd do well in voice overs.” Two decades later, Christy is in fact “doing well” and continues to work from her home based professional studio. She loves and excels at what she does and it shows in her body of work. Plus, she's the only one I know that has ever voiced about the dangers of Bed Bug Mating! Christy grew up in a rural town an hour outside of Cleveland, competed in cooking and public speaking as part of the 4-H program. After graduating college Christy experienced several terrifying situations, including being robbed in her first post-graduate job. And five years ago she suffered a mild stroke. Christy, by any measure, has been successful in the world of VO, and yet she is on a mission to change the sound of a genre of voiceover that for too long has been dominated by men in the world of sports promos. Her Building Doors campaign seeks to literally change the narrative of sports promos by demanding equal opportunities for female voice actors not just in sports, but in male centric brands as well. Her goal is that the door will be built and always remain open. She's even curated a personal YouTube appeal to her beloved Cleveland Browns to be their secret weapon by being their “first female voice to break through the noise!” To give feedback or a story idea: 19stories@soundsatchelstudios.com To listen to Cheryl's demos or other podcast episodes: https://www.cherylholling.com/ Follow me on Instagram: @cherylhollingvo Thank you for joining us today!
