The Hamilton County Bluegrass Band is about to play its last concert. The band has been around since the 1960s when it was founded by Paul Trenwith and Alan Rhodes. The lineup has changed over the years - the current one includes Paul and his two sons. The band's in our Hamilton studio to speak to Jesse.
The Back Porch Bluegrass Concert will be taking place in Wellington on Saturday 9 December, brought about by Paul Trenwith, the host of Free FM's Back Porch Bluegrass Show. In this podcast, Paul speaks about it with Free Breakfast host Mike Williams.
A rare treat this week – we have French mandolinist who together with host Paul Trenwith, plays some music ‘live' in the studio. Of course, we have some gems from my shelves, too, including songs featuring IBMA 2023 winners Greg Blake (Male Vocalist of the Year) and Vickie Vaughn (Bass Player of the Year). Vickie is playing with High Fidelity, and we have songs from the Po' Ramblin' Boys, Richard Bennett, the Hamilton County Bluegrass Band and Jean-Luc Leroux.
May is New Zealand Music Month, so in this show we've got some original bluegrass from NZ's Catherine Bowness (Mile Twelve), Hot Diggity, and Colleen & Paul Trenwith playing with Slim Dusty. As always, there's some great music from others including Caroline Jones, Joe Mullins, John Reischman and their great bands.
