Music Makers and Soul Shakers Podcast with Steve Dawson

Guitarist and session ace Richard Bennett joins me on the show this week. Originally from Phoenix, Richard spent the first big chunk of his career in the 70's LA studio scene, before moving to Nashville in the 80's where he's been a mainstay in studios ever since. Richard is known as one of the ultimate sidemen and spent 17 years in Neil Diamond's band, playing on all of his records and tours from '71 to '87. Richard has had another long-term sideman gig playing guitar in Mark Knopfler's band since '94, and that continues to this day, touring in his band and playing on all of his records, including the latest “One Deep River” from this year. Aside from those impressive long-term gigs, Richard has played on countless sessions and gigs for artists like Roseanne Cash, Marty Stuart, Emmylou Harris, Steve Earle, Rodney Crowell, Iris Dement, and Waylon Jennings. He also loves to write and record his own music, and is constantly working on the next set of tunes to get into the studio to document. His latest is called “Talltale Tunes” and it's a killer record of great playing, tone and creativity. Richard is also an in-demand producer and has helmed an impressive list of albums in the last few decades as well. He had a huge role in the Nashville session scene of the 80's and 90's that continues to thrive, and I loved getting a chance to hear about that era of Nashville. I've spent the last year playing in a band with Richard called The Volcano Brothers, playing all 1920's and 30's Hawaiian music, with Richard playing ukulele. While we just play tiny local gigs around Nashville with that band, I still get to see and hear Richard's amazing touch on his instruments, and the dedication and the preparation that he puts into every show, no matter how small! He's an incredible musician, an encouraging band-mate, and an inspiring person to be around, and we had a very enjoyable conversation about his history in music and the recording studio. In a time of global crisis, it's essential not to forget the steady erosion of rights across Afghanistan. That's the view of Richard Bennett, the UN's independent human rights expert – or Special Rapporteur – who monitors the country. He was in New York to present his report to the General Assembly.Mr. Bennet told UN News's Vibhu Mishra that members of the international community who've pledged support must stay the course “because nowhere else in the world are women treated as appallingly as they are [there] these days”. Special Rapporteurs are appointed by the Geneva-based Human Rights Council. They serve in their individual capacity, independent of the UN system and national governments. They are not UN staff and draw no salary.

What do we know about the purposes and function of the Holy of Holies? And do all temples have one? The word “seal” or “sealing” seems to have multiple meanings. What are those meanings? Also, has the Church's teachings on wearing garments changed over time? And is there anything doctrinal about the length of garments? Since the garment length has changed in the past to accommodate changes in modern clothing styles, could we expect them to change again as styles continue to change? Furthermore, how do we reconcile examples of clear covenental changes in the endowment ceremony with the common narrative that the covenants don't change? Today on Church History Matters we sit down with Dr. Richard Bennett, one of the world's foremost scholars on LDS temple development during the 19th century, to discuss these and other great questions. And, by the way, we apologize in advance for some difficulties with the audio recording of Dr. Bennett. For whatever reason, several times during this interview his audio didn't record properly and so it was sadly unusable. But we hope you'll enjoy what we were able to capture from the responses of this great Latter-day Saint scholar.  For show notes and transcript for this and other episodes go to https://doctrineandcovenantscentral.org/church-history-matters-podcast/

This Day in Legal History: Eugene Debs Sentenced On December 15, 1894, a significant event unfolded in the annals of American labor history. Eugene V. Debs, a prominent labor leader and later a key figure in the American socialist movement, faced the legal consequences of his role in the Pullman railroad strike. The strike, which began in May 1894, was a pivotal moment in labor relations and marked a significant clash between workers' rights and corporate interests. The Pullman Strike had its roots in the economic depression of the 1890s. The Pullman Palace Car Company, known for manufacturing luxury railroad cars, drastically cut wages while maintaining high rents in the company town where workers lived. This led to widespread discontent and eventually, under the leadership of Debs and the American Railway Union (ARU), a massive strike that paralyzed rail traffic in the Midwest. The federal government's response to the strike was severe. It viewed the strike as a direct challenge to federal authority and the mail system, as many railroads carried mail. The government obtained an injunction against the strike leaders, invoking the Sherman Antitrust Act, traditionally used against monopolies, in an unprecedented manner against a labor union.Debs, refusing to comply with the injunction, was arrested and charged with conspiracy to obstruct mail delivery and interstate commerce. His trial brought national attention to the plight of the working class and the legal boundaries of labor disputes. On December 15, he was found guilty and sentenced to six months in prison. His imprisonment marked a turning point in his life and career. It was during his time in jail that Debs began to shift his views, moving from a more traditional labor leader to a dedicated socialist. He read extensively, including the works of Karl Marx, and emerged from prison a changed man, eventually running for President of the United States as a Socialist candidate multiple times. The Pullman Strike and Debs' subsequent trial and imprisonment highlighted the growing tensions in American society over industrialization, workers' rights, and corporate power. It also set precedents for the use of federal power in labor disputes and marked the beginning of a more militant phase in the American labor movement.Today, December 15, serves as a reminder of Eugene V. Debs' impact on labor history and the ongoing struggle for workers' rights. His dedication to improving the conditions of the working class and his transformation during his incarceration remain key chapters in the legal and labor history of the United States.California is taking proactive steps to enhance its deepfake protections, especially with the looming threat of these technologies in upcoming elections and their misuse in pornography. The state, a leader in anti-deepfake legislation since 2019, already has laws allowing victims of deepfakes to sue distributors. However, lawmakers, recognizing the rapid advancements in AI, are considering expanding these laws. The current legislation in California, spearheaded by Assemblymember Marc Berman, focuses on two areas: pornography and political elections. Both laws provide victims with legal recourse, but there's a growing consensus that more needs to be done. Assemblymember Gail Pellerin emphasizes the urgency, given the ease with which AI can spread misinformation. While these measures are seen as important, their enforcement and effectiveness have been questioned. Critics, like Brandie Nonnecke from UC Berkeley, argue that the laws don't prevent the initial harm caused by deepfakes. She points out the difficulty in enforcing the laws, such as the challenge of proving 'actual malice' in cases.A significant challenge to California's efforts is the potential conflict with federal law, particularly Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act, which protects social media platforms from liability for user-generated content. California's current law does not hold these platforms accountable for monitoring deepfakes, a stance that could change with new legislation.Any new laws will also need to navigate First Amendment concerns, especially regarding satire and parody. Drew Liebert of the California Institute for Technology and Democracy suggests reevaluating traditional interpretations of the First Amendment in light of AI's risks to democracy.Proposed solutions include outright bans on AI in political communications and stricter guidelines for identifying altered content. Nonnecke suggests that technical solutions exist for social media platforms to flag AI-generated content. Enforcement mechanisms in new bills could range from the threat of lawsuits to criminal penalties, a path other states have followed.Assemblymember Tri Ta proposed a bill criminalizing the distribution of sexual deepfake content, but it saw little progress. Meanwhile, Berman is considering legislation to strengthen the existing deepfake laws.As AI technology continues to evolve, California's approach to regulating deepfakes remains a critical issue, particularly with the 2024 election poised to be a significant test of these laws and their effectiveness in the face of advanced AI threats.California Looks to Boost Deepfake Protections Before ElectionsA U.S. federal judge has refused to block the U.S. Naval Academy's race-conscious admissions policy. This decision came after Students for Fair Admissions (SFFA), a group opposing affirmative action, requested a preliminary injunction against the Naval Academy's consideration of race in admissions. The judge, Richard Bennett, appointed by former President George W. Bush, ruled that SFFA failed to demonstrate that the Academy's policy was discriminatory and violated the Fifth Amendment's equal protection rights. The judge's decision acknowledges the Supreme Court's June ruling, which invalidated similar admissions policies at Harvard University and the University of North Carolina. However, the Supreme Court's decision contained an exemption for military academies, recognizing their potentially distinct interests. This exemption was a key factor in Judge Bennett's decision to reject SFFA's request.During the court proceedings, the U.S. Department of Justice argued that the military has valid reasons for considering race in admissions to ensure a diverse officer corps for an increasingly diverse armed force. The judge, with over 20 years of military service, cited the history of racial tensions in the military as a context for the current policy. The judge plans to issue a written ruling soon and expedite the trial on the merits of the case, anticipating that it could eventually reach the Supreme Court. SFFA's lawyer indicated a possible appeal, while Edward Blum, founder of SFFA, has not commented yet.The case highlights ongoing debates about race-conscious admissions policies in the U.S., particularly in military academies, and the Biden administration's defense of these policies as crucial for addressing the underrepresentation of minority officers in the military. The Naval Academy's current demographics show disparities in racial representation among officers, underscoring the policy's relevance.US judge won't block US Naval Academy's race-conscious admissions policy | ReutersElliott Portnoy, the CEO of Dentons, one of the world's largest law firms, has announced he will step down from his role in November next year. This decision marks a significant leadership change at the firm, which has experienced a period of aggressive international expansion and restructuring. Under Portnoy's tenure, Dentons has grown substantially through global mergers, including a notable combination with Chinese mega-firm Dacheng in 2015, which later ended due to new Chinese national security restrictions.Portnoy's departure follows other recent leadership changes at Dentons, including the replacement of the U.S. branch CEO and the retirement of the global chairman role. Despite losing about half of its attorneys after parting with its Chinese branch, Dentons has continued its expansion strategy, recently combining with Philippine law firm PJS Law to establish a presence in Southeast Asia.Dentons, which employs a Swiss verein business structure, allows its international branches to operate independently while sharing a common brand. Portnoy emphasized that his successor would need to be committed to the firm's global growth strategy, a key differentiator for Dentons in the legal market. The firm is currently in the process of hiring an executive search firm to identify Portnoy's replacement, considering both internal and external candidates. Despite the leadership transition, Dentons aims to maintain its strong performance and growth, particularly in the United States, where it has integrated several local and regional firms since 2020.Law firm Dentons' CEO to step down next year | ReutersThe 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston upheld the convictions of two former executives of Acclarent Inc, a medical device company now part of Johnson & Johnson. William Facteau, the ex-CEO, and Patrick Fabian, former vice president of sales, were found guilty of distributing a medical device for unapproved uses. The product in question was the Relieva Stratus MicroFlow Spacer, or Stratus, which the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had only cleared for delivering saline after sinus surgery, not for delivering steroids as the executives promoted.Facteau and Fabian were convicted in 2016 on misdemeanor charges for introducing adulterated and misbranded medical devices into interstate commerce. However, they were acquitted of more serious felony fraud charges. Last year, they were fined $1 million and $500,000, respectively, following a four-year sentencing delay. Acclarent, acquired by J&J in 2010, had previously settled related civil claims for $18 million in 2016.On appeal, the defense argued that their convictions violated free speech and due process rights and were based on a misinterpretation of an FDA regulation about a device's "intended use." However, the court rejected these arguments, with U.S. Circuit Judge Kermit Lipez stating that the law was clear enough to indicate when distributing a device with an unapproved intended use would be criminally liable.Former medical device execs at J&J unit lose appeal of convictions | Reuters Get full access to Minimum Competence - Daily Legal News Podcast at www.minimumcomp.com/subscribe

Thanks to Truetone for sponsoring today's episode. Find your next pedal board power supply at:  www.truetone.comJeff King was raised in the Smokey Mountains of East Tennessee, where as a young boy, he found a guitar in an attic and was immediately hooked. Though he loved music and played frequent gigs, he did not study it in college, yet post-graduation, he decided to throw in his lot with a friend that moved to Nashville in the early 80s. With luck on his side, he fairly quickly hit the scene in a big way in 1985 by landing the lead guitar spot with the then-new artist, Patty Loveless. Jeff was soon riding the wave of success with Patty who was busy sending singles up the charts and wowing crowds and critics with her soulful Kentucky sound. This led to major screen time, as Loveless guested on the TV shows of the day, including Austin City Limits, The Tonight Show, Letterman, and the various music shows on The Nashville Network.  Jeff was also getting to watch Patty make her records with guitarists Reggie Young, Ray Flacke, Albert Lee, Richard Bennett, and Steve Gibson. Jeff King was raised in the Smokey Mountains of East Tennessee, where as a young boy, he found a guitar in an attic and was immediately hooked. He soon was putting his watch-time lessons to use by working on demo sessions in-between road dates to the point that he was soon able to bid the road goodbye and focus completely on studio work. William Dennis Gargan was born to an irish-american Catholic family in Brooklyn, New York on July 17th, 1905. His parents—Bill and Irene—had seven children, but only Bill and his brother Ed survived infancy. Ed was four years older than Bill. The pair were close. Bill's mother had been a teacher, but his father was a book maker and a gambler, which didn't sit well with Irene's parents. Gargan's dad made book in the copy room at the New York World and in Room 9 of City Hall. The four-story brownstone they lived in at 427 Henry Street in Brooklyn Heights was won in a poker game. Today P.S. 29 stands on the site. Bill got his first silent movie job at seven for Vitagraph Studios. He was paid Three dollars and eighty-five cents. That's roughly one-hundred twenty dollars today. It portended things to come. By ten, Bill was hanging out at his father's bar in Sunset Park, Brooklyn. Gargan later said that his mother was more straight-laced, a bit of a prude on the surface, but in reality, she ran with dad all her life and his.” Both parents had good senses of humor. He grew up going to Sea Gate in the summer and fighting for the Irish kids from Bay Ridge against the Italian kids in empty lots. He played baseball and basketball for St. Francis Xavier grade school and St. James High. He ditched school in the spring to scale the Ebbets Field wall to watch the Dodgers and their stars of the 1910s. When he was fourteen and working as an ice brusher at the Prospect Park skating rink, Gargan met a girl named Mary Elizabeth Kenny. He was so taken that he used his broom to knock her down! Gargan recalled that “She got up, her eyes spitting fire and her mouth not doing badly either. I knew I was in love.” Gargan loved the theater. By high school he was playing in school productions of Hamlet, Macbeth, and Romeo and Juliet. However, a teacher who'd been out to get Bill for his comedic behavior made life so miserable during Bill's senior year that he dropped out. Gargan became a message runner for a Broad Street brokerage firm, then a cop for a clothing store, then one for a Wall Street agency until he was fired for losing a tail. He sold Wesson Oil to grocers, sneaking away to watch plays. One day the lights went up and Gargan noticed his boss was sitting next to him. “Good show,” Gargan said, “you're fired,” said his boss. Bill's brother Ed was an actor. While having lunch with Ed one day at the Lamb's Club a man named Le Roy Clemens mentioned to Bill that a play he'd written was having tryouts. Bill read a line and was hired, beginning his career in Aloma of the South Seas. They opened in Baltimore in 1924. Gargan was a quick study, learning everyone's parts as well as the stage manager's. Within a year he was directing the Philadelphia production of the play. Aloma of the South Seas ran for forty weeks. Gargan spent the next years playing all over the country with people like George Jessel and Richard Bennett. Jessel would be godfather to Bill's first son Bill Jr, affectionately known as Barrie. Barrie was born on February 25th, 1929. After the stock market crashed, Bill got a short-term job on stage in New York where he met William Bendix. Soon a casting director at Paramount called and after that Leslie Howard cast Bill in a play. Bill later said that Leslie helped make him a star. That same year, on January 12, 1932 Gargan opened at the Broadhurst theater in New York with Leslie Howard in Philip Barry's The Animal Kingdom. It was a smash hit. His success led MGM to call. They offered him the part of Sergeant O'Hara in the 1932 feature Rain, starring Joan Crawford and Walter Huston. He'd be paid fifteen-hundred dollars per week. That's over thirty-three grand today. Bill bought out his contract with The Animal Kingdom, playing on May 2nd for the last time. The next morning, Bill, Mary, and young Barrie left for Hollywood. Rain was shot on Catalina Island.

Our necessary hiatus from our weekly podcast has been afforded a brief reprieve. Advocacy staff have been drinking from a firehouse of legislation and hearings on platform bills that have been waiting since cloture for printing and assignment to committee hearings.  For the first time, MMA has needed to hold a May LPC meeting as bills are still cranking out with significant municipal impact, assigned short turn around public hearing dates and even shorter work session dates. This is the time of year when good public policy dies because of lack of time to dig in and understand or worse....bad public policy not well thought through passes without review. In the coming weeks, we'll be calling on municipal officials to weigh in with their voices directly to members of the legislature to help inform them of impacts, request adequately funding measures, and make corrections. We really need you now! This week we break down what has happened on a couple of MMA's platform bills and how you can help their fate. This week we break down: LD 1857 - An Act to Create the Public Safety Health and Wellness Reimbursement Fund to Benefit Public Safety Workers and Volunteers, sponsored by Rep. Lynn Copeland of Saco,  was unanimously supported out of committee but in a form that requires and appropriations battle instead of on going funding. LD 1493 - An Act to Increase Affordable Housing by Expanding Tax Increment Financing, sponsored by Rep. Raegan LaRochelle of Augusta,  was amended to avoid a fiscal note, but still provides an incredibly powerful tool for communities to advance their housing goals with local policy, but received a divided report out of Taxation.LD 130 - An Act to Eliminate Senior Citizen Property Tax Stabilization and Expand the Homestead Property Tax Exemption, Sen. Richard Bennett of Oxford County, also received a divided report in Taxation. While both versions  advance sensible policy changes to the hastily enacted senior property tax freeze legislation LD 280 passed last year, the majority report removes the significant hardship placed on municipal tax collectors, assessors and communities.  LD 1223 - An Act to Clarify Cost Allocations and Insurance in the Joint Use of Public Utility Equipment, sponsored by Sen. Nicole Grohoski from Hancock County, attempted to address a corporate imbalance for municipal pole attachment projects, to advance broadband connections via use of utility poles that exist in publicly owned way "rent" free.  The final version was amended with agreement from the major players and afforded a sunset date setting the stage for a future legislative battle. Finally, in the good news category, we announce the winners of the first annual Douglas M. Eugley Memorial Scholarship for Public Service! Congratulation to Zachary White, of Skowhegan,  Carolyne Sauda, of Bangor.  Mary-Hollie Whitmore, of Milford,  who we wish well in their college endeavors and hope to see in a future LPC Committee!

In the lead up to Eid-al-Fitr Muslims are not eating or drinking water during daylight hours. There are some Muslims who feel they cannot break the fast with their family this Ramadan - many of those identify as LGBTQ+. Some charities and organisations have been holding events to make sure they can share an Iftar with others. We hear from the events' organisers. UN Special Rapporteur for Afghanistan, Richard Bennett, speaks about what its like for ethnic and religious minorities in the country and what plans are to protect people. It's Easter in the Orthodox tradition and people of Russian and Ukrainian heritage will be standing side by side in worship in churches across the UK. The Russian Orthodox Church has allied itself with President Vladimir Putin, echoing Kremlin rhetoric in defending the invasion of Ukraine. However, Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe says that: 'warfare is always a sign of man's degradation'. BBC Two's Pilgrimage is back on screens. The religious reality TV series sees celebrities take on a spiritual journey through Portugal. One of the contributors is actor Su Pollard, who was raised in the Church of England and will be telling Edward Stourton about the journey. There are renewed tensions in Iran as the government has stepped up its crackdown on women not wearing the hijab. The law is being widely flouted, but in the last week it emerged that surveillance cameras are being used to identify unveiled women. Last year there were nationwide protests after the death in custody of 22 year old Mahsa Amini, who was arrested for not wearing her hijab properly. It is now understood that a fresh wave of demonstrations is planned. As well as the hijab issue, there is also growing discontent over levels of poverty in the country. We hear the latest news from Iran and some expert analysis. Jurors who take a religious oath themselves are more likely to find a defendant who doesn't swear by almighty God guilty of an offence, according to a recent study published by Royal Holloway University of London. Should that mean swearing religious oaths in court be abolished or replaced completely with something more secular? There is a discussion with the study's author and an Anglican vicar who has a legal background. The Show On The Road with Z. Lupetin

This week, we feature my conversation with beloved folk firebrand Iris Dement. Born the youngest of fourteen to a singing Pentecostal family in Arkansas and raised in California, Dement released her iconic 1992 John Prine-endorsed debut Infamous Angel and has been creating poetic protest records and warm collaborations ever since (garnering two folk Grammy nominations along the way), culminating in her much anticipated and fiery new LP Working On A World. Certain songwriters in the folk field will occasionally speak up about injustice or corruption - but with Working On A World, Dement puts the protest front and center: honoring luminaries like Mahalia Jackson, John Lewis, Martin Luther King Jr. and even The Chicks for giving her hope that putting your principles and life on the line will help bend history towards progress and righteousness. Dement, who is now based in Iowa with her musician and collaborator husband Greg Brown (check out their biting co-write “I'll Be Your Jesus”), will be the first to say that at times in her wide-ranging career, playing clubs to enraptured but small audiences, she has questioned whether she was doing enough to make a difference. But songs like the epic Dylan-esque take-down “Going Down To Sing in Texas” show that Dement is still at her fired-up best, confronting the Lone Star State's open carry gun laws that put so many at risk, while also spitting in the face of all the wannabe tyrants who shun the very progress she is still hoping to see. In many ways, Working On A World is a hard-won release of pent up energy, created over the course of six years with co-producers Richard Bennett, Jim Rooney and Pieta Brown. While many of her longtime fans are used to her fearless political confrontations - 1996's seething The Way I Should and its dark anthem “Wasteland of the Free" demand answers from sexual abusers and government war mongers alike - casual listeners may only know Dement from her playful duets with sonic soulmate John Prine, most notably the foul-mouthed love song “In Spite Of Ourselves.” With a little laugh, she says she's alright with that too. Life is long and the music, no matter the light or the dark, is equally as powerful. Season 4 Episode 23 I'm delighted to be back to share part two of my chat with Dr Richard Bennett and Dr Joe Oliver - both clinical psychologists - both legends in their field- they joined me on the show to talk about self-esteem at work. We began by unpacking the concept that's so popular and Rich and Joe draw upon the evidence to illustrate how self esteem can be quite a narrow and restrictive concept. People might say - "I've got high self esteem" or "I've got low self esteem" and it can feel quite rigid and inflexible. It can limit our behaviour and impact our whole career and or life. The chaps present their alternative perspective of self-acceptance - which effectively captures the nuanced and multifaceted experience of being a human. Their approach has is set out in their book - The Mindfulness and Acceptance Workbook for Self-Esteem: Using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to Move Beyond Negative Self-Talk and Embrace Self-Compassion And in this episode - there's a treasure trove of insights and a tremendously generous take away. NOW - those with heightened noticing skills - may have spotted the gap between part one and part two being released. I'd like to thank everyone for their patience - fortunately I'm fully confident that your patience is about to be rewarded. The delay was a function of life - I've been working flat out on a mega project since March - designing and delivering coaching skills masterclasses to senior leaders in a global drinks company - needless to say - this has involved a heft dose of contextual behavioural science which has gone down a storm. It's also involved a lot of European travel. Coupled with that - we moved house in May - and we couldn't be happier with our new home - near Seville. It's just been a tad busy and I've felt a bit exhausted and - to use a Spanish word - a la deriva - which means adrift. I now growing roots and feeling established and plans are gently afoot for new guests and topics. Twenty-three out of Afghanistan's 40 million people are in need of food assistance, he said in a recent statement. The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, or UNAMA as it is known, pointed out in a July report that seven hundred people have been killed and a little over 1400 wounded in the country since the Taliban takeover in August last year. At least 160 instances of extra-judicial killings have been reported of former government and security officials and more than 120 media workers have faced arbitrary arrest or detention. As the pandemic has shifted work, education, and entertainment online, there is a growing appetite in Washington to enhance broadband access across the country. However, some members of Congress and the current administration have advocated for ramping up broadband speeds to a symmetrical 100 megabits per second both upstream and downstream (known as 100/100). Where is the push for this new standard coming from, and what would it mean for the average consumer? https://bennett.com/blog/about-me-2/ (Richard Bennett), founder of https://hightechforum.org/ (High Tech Forum) and a co-creator of Wi-Fi, returns to the podcast to explain how 100/100 would burden consumers and fail to connect more Americans to the internet. He and https://www.aei.org/profile/shane-tews/ (Shane) discuss Joe Biden's infrastructure plan, the digital divide, and more on this episode of “Explain to Shane.”

In December 2020, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced a https://docs.fcc.gov/public/attachments/DOC-368984A1.pdf (Notice of Proposed Rulemaking) regarding the feasibility of allowing commercial operations — both satellite and terrestrial — in the 12.2–12.7 GHz spectrum band. Doing so could expand broadband access and expedite mobile 5G network buildouts; however, incumbents worry that additional commercial activity in the band could potentially interfere with their satellite operations. How can the FCC ensure new use of the 12-GHz band while navigating incumbents' concerns? On this episode, https://www.aei.org/profile/shane-tews/ (Shane) is joined by two spectrum policy experts: https://www.linkedin.com/in/vnoahcampbell/ (V. Noah Campbell), co-founder and CEO of https://www.rsawireless.com/management (Radio Spectrum Access LLC), and https://bennett.com/blog/about-me-2/ (Richard Bennett), founder of https://hightechforum.org/ (High Tech Forum) and a co-creator of Wi-Fi. Noah discusses how both industry and the FCC can safely increase commercial activity in the 12-GHz band, while Richard gives an engineer's perspective on what freeing up spectrum entails — in the 12-GHz band and beyond.
