Lukas Haas Gets Real About Hollywood, Child Fame & Spider-Noir What's it really like to grow up in Hollywood, become a star as a kid, and still keep evolving as an artist decades later? In this episode of Reza Rifts, Keith Reza sits down with Lukas Haas for a candid, funny, and surprisingly deep conversation about his upcoming role in Spider-Noir, the pressure of self-tape auditions, playing darker characters, and what it takes to survive a lifetime in the entertainment industry. Lukas opens up about landing Spider-Noir, stepping into a stylized noir comic-book world, and why filming in both black-and-white and color gave the project such a unique feel. He also talks about the freedom of playing a villain, the art of instinctive acting, and how costumes, tone, and physicality all help shape a memorable performance. But this episode goes far beyond one role. Keith and Lukas also dive into Lukas's early rise as a child actor, learning lines before he fully knew how to read, working through the highs and lows of a long Hollywood career, and the reality of constantly reinventing yourself as you grow older in the industry. They also talk about Mars Attacks!, creative burnout, rewriting dialogue, difficult personalities in Hollywood, and Lukas's passion for music including his upcoming release of "Ramblin' Man." If you love Hollywood stories, acting insights, behind-the-scenes film talk, child star journeys, and honest conversations with real artists, this is one of the most revealing Reza Rifts episodes yet. Guest Bio Lukas Haas is an actor and musician whose career began in childhood and has spanned decades across film and television. In this conversation, Keith references credits including Witness, Lady in White, The Wizard of Loneliness, Mars Attacks!, and Inception. Lukas also discusses his role in the upcoming series Spider-Noir, where he plays the right-hand man to Brendan Gleeson's character, as well as his passion for writing and recording music. Now we all know that clocks reside either on walls or beside them. It's a simple matter of fact. But what if, this movie supposes, there was a house with a clock in its walls? A radical notion, to be sure, and one that was first broached in 1973 by author John Bellairs and again in 2018 when director Eli Roth adapted his novel into the film we all know as THE HOUSE WITH A CLOCK IN ITS WALLS. Joining us to find the source of the infernal ticking is returning guest Jack Buckley, who has not only read the Bellairs original but has been waiting to wax lyrical about this since the clock-cogs first started turning. Together we talk about the origins of the project, its strange permutations throughout the ensuing decades, Roth's wide and varied directorial career (Josh did a lot of unnecessary prep and had to make it count somehow), its Goosebumps adjacency and its weird dalliances with (Jamie Lee Curtis voice) trauma. As the poster for a certain big lizard movie from 1998 said, size matters. We're joined by the delightful Tom Jurassic (host of The Jurassic Park Podcast and Jurassic Collectables, and creator of Tales from a Jurassic World) for a BIG episode on a BIG movie: the 2018 follow-up to a smash-hit legacy sequel, JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM. Together we try to untangle the questionable motivations that kick the story into gear, marvel at the textures that director J. A. Bayona brings to the visuals and giggle at Chris Pratt's Action Man poses. It's a mess of a movie but we find a surprisingly BIG amount to enjoy. You can follow Tom on Instagram at @tom_jurassic. Democracy depends on finding common ground, yet politics have entered an era of what Director and Producer Dan Partland calls “extreme negative hyper-partisanship.” In a recent conversation, Dan discussed his upcoming documentary, UNFIT TOO, a sequel to his widely acclaimed film #UNFIT, which dissected the psychology of Donald Trump. This time, he seeks to look beyond Trump and Trumpism to examine how America can navigate out of this political and cultural divide.Dan explained the gravity of the situation, emphasizing how populism on both the right and left distorts democracy. “Populism is really about power...a ruthless majority,” Dan said. “Democracies can easily slip into that...what the study of psychology tells us is that these people are frequently...compelling...but it isn't necessarily good for the world.” Building on this analysis, the new documentary explores how polarization, populism, and societal divisions threaten democracy's core values of negotiation and representation. The concept behind UNFIT TOO takes the mission one step further: finding actionable strategies for individuals and communities to bridge the gaps between ideological divides. Dan sees this challenge reflected everywhere—from political discourse to fractured family dinners. He explained, “Every single family has been affected by this negative hyper-partisanship...What's the appropriate disposition towards that problem? How do you engage with people who you feel so different from?”As compelling as #UNFIT was in analyzing Donald Trump's leadership style, this sequel focuses on solutions. Dan noted that UNFIT TOO isn't just about diagnosing the current crisis but finding pathways to a more collaborative and functional democracy. The documentary aims to give audiences practical tools to discuss and address difficult, deep-rooted divides.Dan and his team are raising capital for UNFIT TOO through a regulated crowdfunding campaign on Wefunder. This approach reflects Dan's belief that business interests and philanthropy can align to create both cultural and social impact. Those interested in supporting the project can visit the campaign at s4g.biz/UNFIT.The success of #UNFIT, which became the top-selling documentary on Apple and a cultural phenomenon, is a testament to Dan's ability to tackle controversial and challenging topics in a meaningful way. UNFIT TOO promises to be equally impactful—a documentary that not only informs but also empowers Americans to reclaim the true spirit of democracy.tl;dr:Dan Partland's new documentary UNFIT TOO explores solutions to America's extreme polarization and populism. The film builds on the success of #UNFIT, examining Trump's psychology and its impact on politics.Dan describes populism as a key threat to democracy's representation, collaboration, and common-ground solutions. The sequel aims to provide tools for healing divides within families, communities, and broader political contexts.UNFIT TOO is raising funds via Wefunder, where business and philanthropy align for cultural impact. How to Develop Mission-Driven Leadership As a SuperpowerDan's superpower is his ability to unite people around a meaningful mission. Describing his work on documentaries like #UNFIT and now UNFIT TOO, Dan shared how engaging in mission-driven projects has fueled his work ethic and collaborations. “I really believe in... unifying people around a sense of mission,” Dan explained. For him, creating films that address real-world problems and inspire compassion in culture brings purpose to his work: “By aiming the lens at the real problems of real people, you engender more compassion.” Dan believes that great storytelling isn't just entertainment but a vehicle for social good, fostering collaboration and actionable impact. One project that exemplifies Dan's mission-driven approach was a documentary show embedded in a suburban high school, documenting students' trials and experiences. To align the production with the school's educational mission, Dan and his team created a filmmaking curriculum. This approach added value not only for the documentary but also for the students and community, demonstrating how mission-based work can serve diverse goals. Dan shared, “Creating this educational component...helped align with the project's objectives, amplifying the subjects' voices while advancing media literacy.”Tips for Developing This Superpower:Align Your Work with a Greater Purpose: Look for ways to connect your goals to real-world impact.Unify Teams Around Shared Missions: Create a sense of collective purpose for a project's success.Seek Collaborative Win-Wins: Ensure your work benefits stakeholders and participants in meaningful ways.Focus on Amplifying Social Good: Go beyond storytelling to highlight actionable change in your work.Cultivate Empathy Through Action: Use every opportunity to foster understanding, compassion, and collaboration.By following Dan's example and advice, you can make mission-driven leadership a skill. With practice and effort, you could develop this superpower to create impact and drive meaningful change in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!Guest ProfileDan Partland (he/him):Director and Producer, UNFIT TOOAbout UNFIT TOO: UNFIT TOO is a feature-length documentary film being made to meet America's timely, urgent, and challenging moment.Website: wefunder.com/unfittooCompany Facebook Page: facebook.com/UnfitMovieCompany Twitter Handle: @duty2warnBiographical Information: Dan Partland is a veteran documentary producer and director whose work has defined nonfiction film and television over the past two decades. It's a film made up entirely of pop culture Easter eggs, centred around a literal Easter egg hunt and released on Easter weekend eight years ago, so we thought it would be fitting to give you a little Easter 2026 treat and release our episode on READY PLAYER ONE a week early. But we're not heading into the Oasis alone: we're joined by Em, the fab host of Verbal Diorama, to wade (Watts) through the smorgasbord of references, the film's long road to realisation and its ultimate message about the real world vs. the virtual one. It's time for us to blow the whistle on THE POST, Spielberg's 2017 ode to a free press, squeezed in during postproduction on another very different movie (more on that next episode). We're very lucky to be joined in our discussion by BBC Radio 2's resident movie critic, top gentleman and (most importantly) fellow Warwick grad James King, who shares tales of his various dalliances with Spielberg over the years, his personal connection to the film and his thoughts on the urgency it exudes thanks to its rapid production schedule. Ralph McTell is one of Britain's most enduring and respected singer-songwriters, a master storyteller whose songs have become woven into the fabric of English folk music. Born in Kent and raised in Croydon, McTell developed an early love for American blues, folk and traditional British music. As a teenager he was captivated by artists such as Woody Guthrie and Ramblin' Jack Elliott, influences that shaped both his fingerstyle guitar technique and his gift for narrative songwriting. After studying at art school in the early '60s, Ralph began busking and performing in London's thriving folk clubs, quickly building a reputation for his intricate guitar work and warm, conversational stage presence. He signed with a record company in the late '60s, releasing his self-titled debut album in '68. His breakthrough came in '69 with “Streets of London,” a song inspired by his travels in Paris and London, where he encountered loneliness and poverty firsthand. The song's gentle melody and compassionate lyrics struck a deep chord. Though it became a hit in the early '70s and was later re-released to even greater success, its impact went far beyond chart positions. It became one of the most covered songs in British music history, recorded by hundreds of artists worldwide and earning McTell the prestigious Ivor Novello Award for songwriting. Throughout the '70s, Ralph toured extensively releasing many albums. While “Streets of London” often overshadowed his broader catalogue, McTell consistently proved himself far more than a one-song artist. In the '80s, Ralph broadened his scope. He composed music for children's tv and wrote songs for stage productions. His collaborations included projects with fellow folk legend Wizz Jones and work alongside various orchestras.A defining characteristic of Ralph McTell's career has been his longevity and consistency. Rather than chasing trends, he has remained devoted to craftsmanship. In the 2000s and beyond, McTell continued to record and tour, releasing albums that revisited his influences and explored new material. He has also been honoured for his contributions to music, including receiving an OBE in 2010 for services to folk music.Today, Ralph McTell stands as a cornerstone of British folk songwriting. His legacy rests not only on a single iconic anthem, but on decades of carefully crafted songs that chronicle ordinary lives with empathy and grace. With his distinctive fingerpicking style, warm tenor voice and unflinching eye for human stories, McTell has carved out a body of work that continues to resonate across generations.More than half a century after he first stepped onto the folk club stage, Ralph McTell remains what he has always been: a storyteller with a guitar, shining a quiet light on the corners of life others might overlook.
Joe Henry has released 15 studio albums, apprenticed for legendary producer T Bone Burnett and, in turn, has produced many other musicians' albums on his own, including three GRAMMY Award-winning albums – for Solomon Burke, Carolina Chocolate Drops, and Ramblin' Jack Elliott. He's co-written a few songs as well, including a couple with his sister-in-law, who happens to be the one and only legendary pop icon, Madonna. His latest album is 'Life and Time,' a collaboration with songwriter Mike Reid, who has written many wonderful songs like "I Can't Make You Love Me," one of Bonnie Raitt's most successful and beloved recordings. In recent years, Joe has struck up a friendship with our bestie, Mark Erelli. Mark's been on Basic Folk 10,000 times and in honor of his new record, 'Spring Green,' we invited him to do whatever he wanted on this appearance on the pod. Mark chose to be in conversation with his friend Joe on location in Joe's beautiful studio located north of Portland on the coast of Maine. In 2020, Mark was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa (or RP) which is causing him to slowly go blind. Joe was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer in 2018 and was told he only had months to live. Now, in 2026, his cancer is in remission and his health has improved. In this Basic Folk conversation, they tackle topics such as asking for help and finding hope while living with chronic illnesses. They also get into other parallels the two musicians have experienced, including how music has shaped their male friendships and being free of vanity. Bobswinkles, it's a fizz whizzer! Yes, you heard that right, the time has come for us to climb into a giant bag and be transported to Giant Country, where we'll sample the finest snozzcumbers and frobscottle (though you'll forgive us if there's a whizzpopper or two). We're joined by the BFI Southbank's Head of Cinema Programme, Justin Johnson, for this wide-ranging discussion of Steven Spielberg's 2016 adaptation of Roald Dahl's THE BFG. It's an episode as giant as Fleshlumpeater but far less mean, taking in everything from the film's long gestation to its struggle to make an impact, from the mo-cap performances and CGI compositing to the wide array of accents (some more explicable than others). We're back! Again! This time for good! We mark our return – which in turn marks our five year anniversary, if you can believe that – by covering two films that were added retroactively to Wikipedia's Amblin filmography list (which, of course, is our gospel): the cursed 1983 production of TWILIGHT ZONE: THE MOVIE and the other ‘comet hurtling towards earth' picture from 1998, DEEP IMPACT. It's a lot to bite off in one episode, so we set ourselves a time limit for each discussion to make sure we don't disappear too far down the rabbit holes. Strap in as we discuss whether any film can ever escape the tragedy of its making, the tenability of idealised movie presidents in today's climate and Andy's unbridled delight at this episode's very silly title. Just don't call it a comeback. Follow the podcast on Twitter (@RamblinAmblin), Instagram (@ramblinamblinpod) and Blusky (@ramblinamblin.bsky.social). On today's episode, we discuss a massive human‑rights lawsuit against Cisco Systems, where Chinese Falun Gong practitioners claim the company helped the Chinese Communist Party build a surveillance and torture machine known as the “Golden Shield.” Madeline walks through the Alien Tort Statute and the Torture Victim Protection Act, explaining why victims cannot sue China itself and instead target a deep‑pocketed U.S. company as an alleged aider and abettor. The crew unpacks the core legal question: does U.S. law even recognize a civil cause of action for aiding and abetting torture and extrajudicial killing, or must plaintiffs show Cisco acted with a direct, purpose‑driven “guilty mind” rather than mere knowledge its technology might be misused? To clarify “mens rea,” James uses down‑to‑earth hypotheticals about selling guns to “Ramblin' Bob,” showing the difference between vaguely knowing someone is bad and actively helping him pick the best weapon to kill his wife. They note that the Supreme Court declined to review the intent standard, signaling the justices may resolve the case on the narrower ground that these statutes simply do not authorize aiding‑and‑abetting suits against corporations at all. From there, the conversation widens to whether U.S. tech firms should face legal exposure when foreign regimes weaponize their products, and how far American courts should go in policing global human‑rights abuses through civil litigation. Along the way, there is the usual banter about Greenland, and Dwayne “stealing” James's glitchy Surface Book, but the heart of the episode is a sober look at how law, technology, and authoritarian power increasingly intertwine. Don't miss it!

A very Merry Christmas and soon to be Happy New Year to all of you in the #TradeCrew and thank you for listening. This week on the HVAC R&D Podcast your host Rhydon Atzenhoffer, aka the Ramblin' Rhyno, had the pleasure to interview one of the creative titans of the HVAC industry, Ron Saunders. Decades of experience in the IAQ world saw Ron help to lead Fresh Aire UV to new heights during the Covid era IAQ boom during which he and his partners sold their company to Diversitech. Since then Ron has been working at finding and creating his next innovative products with DrainIV and the soon to be launched ProIAQ as well as partnering to open newly formed manufacturers rep agency AHR Sales in Florida. So sit back and strap in for what was a great conversation about the industry and many things to come. Enjoy the episode?
In this solo episode of The Landscaper's Guide Podcast, host Jack Jostes reflects on the hardest leadership lessons he learned last year—particularly around letting the wrong people stay too long, dealing with toxic behavior, and the personal toll poor people decisions can take on business owners. Jack shares real stories from his own company and from client conversations, offering an honest look at why leadership often gets harder before it gets clearer. In the second half of the episode, Jack shifts gears and looks ahead to 2026. He previews what's coming next at Ramblin Jackson, including new products, services, and systems designed to help landscape and snow companies grow with better sales processes, smarter automation, and less stress. This episode blends leadership insight with practical business direction for owners who want to build stronger teams and more scalable companies. You'll LearnWhy waiting too long to let people go creates long-term stress and culture issuesHow to identify toxic behavior—even when performance looks “good on paper”What Jack learned about leadership fear, clarity, and accountabilityWhat new tools and services are coming to Ramblin Jackson in 2026Where Jack sees the biggest opportunities for landscape and snow companies next yearConnect With Jack Jostes
Charlie Lehmann & Cosmo Soto bartended in a variety of Sydney, Australia spots (from local dives to crafty speakeasies) before they had the opportunity to become owners of two music centric cocktail joints: Ramblin' Rascal Tavern and Double Deuce Lounge. Grammy-winning producer and singer-songwriter Joe Henry gives us insight into his multi-faceted careerPART ONEPaul and Scott chat about their music-themed road trip and say R.I.P. to MTV. PART TWOOur in-depth conversation with Joe HenryABOUT JOE HENRYJoe Henry is a singer-songwriter who became a record producer as a protege of T Bone Burnett. He went on to win Grammy awards for his work with Solomon Burke, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, The Carolina Chocolate Drops, and Bonnie Raitt. Additionally, he produced the final albums of the late Allen Toussaint, who credited Henry for ushering him out of retirement. Henry's contribution to American music remains somewhat enigmatic. Joe's own records often feature adventurous contributions by instrumentalists, such as one of only two cameos Ornette Coleman ever made with a singer, while his song “Stop” was reworked into Madonna's hit pop single, “Don't Tell Me.” The long list of artists Joe has produced includes Ani DiFranco, Aimee Mann, Bettye LaVette, Elvis Costello, Rodney Crowell, Aaron Neville, Hayes Carll, Joan Baez, The Milk Carton Kids, Rhiannon Giddens, and many others. As a songwriter he has collaborated with Rosanne Cash, Jakob Dylan, Loudon Wainwright III, Billy Bragg, Madonna, and many more, while releasing 17 studio albums as an artist. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Americana Music Honors & Awards in 2025. Joe's most recent album is Life and Time, a collaborative project with fellow songwriter Mike Reid. We're celebrating our 10th anniversary all year by digging in the vaults to re-present classic episodes with fresh commentary. Today, we're revisiting our 2021 conversation with the late Todd Snider. ABOUT TODD SNIDERCelebrated singer-songwriter Todd Snider has continued the troubadour legacy of mentors like John Prine, Jerry Jeff Walker, and Ramblin' Jack Elliott, while putting his uniquely clever, wry, sly, and often irreverent spin on folk, rock, country, and Americana. Launching his career on Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville Records, Snider has spent more than two decades touring relentlessly, both on his own and with legendary artists such as Emmylou Harris. Along the way he's made a splash with fan favorite songs such as “Talking Seattle Grunge Rock Blues,” “Alright Guy,” “Can't Complain,” “Beer Run,” “Statistician's Blues,” and “Play a Train Song.” He has released well over a dozen albums, including The Devil You Know and Agnostic Hymns and Stoner Fables, both of which were named to Rolling Stone's list of the Top 50 Albums of the Year. He also formed the group Hardworking Americans, and published a memoir called I Never Met a Story I Didn't Like: Mostly True Tall Tales. His songs have been covered by Garth Brooks, Gary Allan, Mark Chesnutt, Tom Jones, Jerry Jeff Walker, Billy Joe Shaver, Elizabeth Cook, Warren Haynes, Loretta Lynn, and Elvis Costello. When we first spoke to him he'd recently released his experimental funk-influenced album called First Agnostic Church of Hope and Wonder. Snider died from complications with pneumonia on November 14, 2025. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. In this episode of "Normal World," Dave Landau, 1/4 Black Garrett, and Angela open with headlines about Travis Kelce's rumored Pfizer payday and Trump's unusual comments on autism in Cuba. The discussion quickly shifts to Kamala Harris' media tour, her new book 107 Days, and the contradictions in her remarks about Pete Buttigieg. The conversation broadens into her attacks on Trump, her rambling appearance on The View, and commentary on Antifa protests in Oregon, the ineffectiveness of activist theatrics, and the absurdity of civil unrest. Midway through, the hosts pivot into pop culture, debating the highs and lows of '80s and '90s cinema, John Hughes' teen classics, Eddie Murphy's career arc, and the lasting impact of Terminator 2, Mortal Kombat, and early video game movies. Halloween traditions come next, with a spirited push for better neighborhood participation, nostalgic ads, and the idea of reviving block parties. Later, the show examines Texas A&M's hazing scandal, shares stories of reckless youth, and dives into wild hotel tales that segue into conspiracy theories about Michael Jackson, Prince, and the music industry. The discussion rounds out with gangster rap history, Suge Knight's notorious reputation, and a “Half-Assed Top Ten” of banned TV shows. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
