MAY 10, 2020 - It's THE DAILY SHOW WEEKLY, hosted by Vic Shuttee (@VicShuttee) and Chandler Dean (@chandlerjdean)! Was this the fabled week of Jon’s fake fued with Barbra Walters – it all comes from attempting to make Angelina Jolie laugh. Plus the ill-fated return of Ad Nausuem, along with a preview of Comedy Central yet to come with the debut of Ed Helms’ alter-ego Ted Nelms! The Daily Show Weekly is an unofficial fan podcast designed to serve as a critical companion to the original series, which can be watched in clips at CC.com. Our thoughts and criticism are intended to offer historical reflection and enhance the viewing experience for new and old fans journeying through Jon Stewart’s seminal talk show run. Our awesome album artwork is designed by Felipe Flores Comics! #NedWelms
This episode, Jesse talks to stand-up comedian and TV writer Sara Schaefer. Back in 2013, Sara and fellow comedian Nikki Glaser adapted their podcast “You Had to Be There” into the MTV late night show Nikki & Sara Live, which ran for two seasons. Since then, Sara has written for numerous TV programs, including The Fake News with Ted Nelms, The Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, and Problematic with Moshe Kasher. Sara started working on the joke discussed here in early 2017, before performing it as part of her Edinburgh Fringe Festival show that summer; however, the version you’ll hear is from her 2019 album LIVE LAUGH LOVE. It’s a sixteen-and-a-half-minute magnum opus about her first trip to Hobby Lobby—you know, the arts & crafts chain store that won a Supreme Court case allowing them to not cover contraceptives in their employees’ health insurance plans? Yeah, that one. In the joke Sara tries to reconcile her views on the company with her desperate need to get a basket for her crafts nook. It’s an epic journey. You can listen to LIVE LAUGH LOVE wherever you buy or stream music. You can pre-order a copy of her memoir Grand, which comes out August 11, wherever books are sold. Follow Sara on Twitter and Instagram. Follow Jesse David Fox on Twitter and Instagram. NOTE: In the interview, Sara misidentified a radio host who was fired for making racist tweets. It was not Opie, but Opie's former co-host, Anthony Cumia.
Dave and Alonso are joined by the one, the only Elliott Kalan (The Flop House, MST3K, The Daily Show, Horse Meets Dog, The Fake News with Ted Nelms) to go into great detail about all three hours of the most successful superhero movie ever. We were originally gonna talk about some other movies, but oops. Subscribe (and review us) at Apple Podcasts, follow us @linoleumcast at Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, I've got angst in my pants. Join our club, won't you?
Ed Helms is back behind the desk at Comedy Central, at least for one night, as the fictional host of "The Fake News with Ted Nelms." It's a fast-paced one-hour special that looks like CNN but with a Monty Python-eseque twist. IndieWire's TURN IT ON talked to Helms about his return to Comedy Central, what The Daily Show meant to him, and why he's reclaiming the term Fake News to actually mean "Fake News."
Ed Helms (The Hangover! upcoming The Fake News with Ted Nelms!) makes it weird!
