Send us a text If 2025 has felt like one long group chat you can't mute, this episode is your survival kit. From the streets to the stage, we break down a year defined by MTV ending , No Kings protests, cultural flashpoints, and the uncomfortable truth that sometimes comedians are the only ones saying what everyone else is thinking. We talk Bruce Springsteen and Deliver Me From Nowhere—art as resistance—alongside Sinners and One Battle After Another, where culture keeps fighting even when politics feels stuck on repeat. Our book of the year by John Fugelsang. We also look at how voices like Dave Chappelle, Jon Stewart, John Oliver, Ricky Gervais, South Park, Jimmy Kimmel, and Gianmarco Soresi are shaping the conversation by doing what institutions won't: telling the truth with jokes sharp enough to hurt.On the political side, we dig into the rise and reactions around Zohran Mamdani, Gavin Newsom, Jasmine Crockett, and Marianne Edgar Budde, and why satire might be more effective than speeches at cutting through the noise. With insight from J-L Cauvin and the absurdity that only 2025 could deliver, we ask the real question:Are we laughing because it's funny—or because it's the only way to survive? This episode is about humor as protest, comedy as commentary, and why laughter might be the last honest currency left Follow us at Reality Redemption on Facebook, Instagram, Threads, BlueSky and Tik Tok

Send us a textKatie and Bridget dress up as Scuba Steve as they re-watch the surprisingly heartwarming movie: Big Daddy! Come along as we meet Sonny, a 32 year old man-child, who pseudo adopts and/or kidnaps his roommate's illegitimate child who shows up at their apartment one day. When Sonny and the kid Julian - aka Fwankenstein - start to bond, Sonny discovers what it truly means to be a dad and how gentle parenting may not be the best method. Seriously nobody wants to have raised the "smelly kid"! This movie has us asking the deep questions such as: Should all parents dress up as their kids favorite toy to get them to listen to them? Did Adam Sandler invent the Montessori method? What ever happened to all the weird children's programming that used to exist - like Julian's kangaroo video!? All this and more in this very 90's and very Adam Sandler movie. Released in 1999, it stars Adam Sandler, Joey Lauren Adams, Cole and Dylan Sprouse, Jon Stewart, Leslie Mann, and Josh Mostel.
What makes someone quit a six-figure advertising career to write books that help people think differently? In this episode of Legendary Leaders, host Cathleen O'Sullivan sits down with Karen Salmansohn—bestselling author, behavioral change expert, and the creative force behind NotSalmon.com—whose sharp wit and mortality-driven wisdom will make you rethink everything on your to-do list. Karen shares why fun isn't frivolous—it's fuel. She breaks down the science of why laughter literally shakes ideas loose, explains why her "e-pee-phanies" in the bathroom cracked more creative codes than caffeine ever did, and reveals the mortality marble jar that transformed how she spends every single month. With disarming honesty, she opens up about hiding her intelligence to be liked and finally "coming out" as a smart person in her sixties. Together, Cathleen and Karen explore the fatal flaw of to-do lists, why your identity is the puppet master of your habits, and how writing your own eulogy can wake you up from a "near-life experience." This conversation is for anyone who's tired of sleepwalking through their days and ready to design a life their future self will actually thank them for. Episode Timeline: 00:05:36 How funny are you? Karen's son vs. Jon Stewart's verdict 00:06:34 Fun as a high-performance fuel (and meditation on steroids) 00:09:23 Manifestation, energy, and why confidence attracts results 00:14:48 From advertising to authorship: quitting the senior VP job her parents hated 00:19:38 The Häagen-Dazs theory on productivity: only pick what excites you 00:22:35 Procrastination strategies: turn your pain into purpose 00:27:03 Writing your eulogy: the wake-up call that changes everything 00:29:41 The fatal flaw of to-do lists (and why you need a to-die list) 00:33:31 The seven core values that minimize regret: A to G 00:38:31 Identity-based statements: "I am loving, so I find a way to Connecticut" 00:44:34 Feisty then, feisty now: how Karen sold the book her agent didn't want 00:46:33 Hiding her intelligence to be liked, then embracing it fully in her sixties 00:57:14 Hedonia vs. eudaimonia: why happiness isn't the goal 01:00:16 Life as a den of pleasure AND a laboratory for growth 01:12:51 Near-life experiences: when you're scrolling instead of living 01:16:07 The mortality marble jar: 437 marbles and a monthly reckoning Key Takeaway: Your Identity Is the Puppet Master of Your Habits: Who you think you are determines what you actually do. If you walk around thinking "I'm sloppy," you'll do sloppy things. If you think "I'm a loving person," you'll find a way to get to Connecticut for your friend's birthday—even without a car. Studies show people who identified as "voters" were three times more likely to show up at the polls than those who just heard clever slogans. Change your identity statement, change your behavior. To-Do Lists Prioritize Productivity, Not Meaning—That's Their Fatal Flaw: You can check off every box on your to-do list and still waste your life. Karen created a "to-die list" alongside her to-do list—a place for meaningful habits tied to core values, not just tasks. The top regrets of the dying? Working too hard, not spending time with friends, not allowing themselves to be happier, not living true to themselves. Your to-die list is the bridge between current you and the person your eulogy will describe. Life Is a Den of Pleasure AND a Laboratory for Growth—You Need Both: We're addicted to instant gratification—scrolling, avoiding discomfort, waiting for "someday." But here's the truth: you can't seize every day. Aristotle said the goal isn't living pain-free; it's learning lessons that grow you into your best self. Emotional diversity is what makes you flourish. Instead of "seize the day," try "seize every other day." The moments in the laboratory of growth—where you get curious about your patterns and repair what keeps repeating—are what make the pleasure meaningful. The Mortality Marble Jar: Math That Shakes You Awake: Karen calculated how many months she has left if she lives to 100 (she promised her son). She bought that many marbles, put them in a jar, and every month she moves one marble to her "past" jar. The first time she did it, she couldn't remember what she'd done that month. Depressing. Now she intentionally plans meaningful experiences—dancing with friends, theater nights, time with her son—so when she holds that marble, she has something to report. The question that changes everything: "Is this really worth a marble of my life?" About Karen Salmansohn: Karen Salmansohn is a bestselling author, behavioral change expert, and the founder of NotSalmon.com, where 1.5 million followers get their daily dose of psychology wrapped in wit. A former senior VP creative director who walked away from advertising in her twenties—despite her parents' protests—she's sold over 2 million books including How to Be Happy, Dammit and Think Happy, and her work has appeared everywhere from Oprah's platform to Psychology Today. Her latest book, Your To-Die-For Life, tackles mortality, regret, and the art of living intentionally—complete with a marble jar in her kitchen that tracks every month she has left if she lives to 100. Karen teaches that fun isn't a bonus, it's fuel, and that your identity is the puppet master of your habits. As part of 12 Days of The Comic Source, this Fireside Chat features Jace welcoming back writer Jeremy Adams for an in-depth, free-flowing conversation covering a wide range of current and recent projects alongside broader creative philosophy. Jeremy discusses Aquaman, focusing on redefining Arthur Curry as an avatar-level powerhouse and how DC KO positions him against Hawkman in a tournament setting that highlights his expanded abilities; Green Lantern, detailing long-form planning around the fractured emotional spectrum, Hal Jordan's evolving role, and the reintegration of legacy elements like Jon Stewart, Kyle Rayner, and long-dormant continuity threads; and the digital crossover Flash / Fantastic Four, where Jeremy explains the constraints and opportunities of vertical-format storytelling and character interaction outside heavy continuity. The conversation also touches on multiple DC KO tie-ins, including a Green Lantern wrestling-themed one-shot that expands the Wham mythology, the youth-focused The Kids Are All Fight, which centers Jon Kent guiding younger heroes during a world-ending crisis, and the high-concept DC KO crossover featuring non-DC characters such as Homelander, Vampirella, and Sub-Zero. Jeremy further reflects on the broader DC creative landscape, including Absolute and Next Level initiatives, while sharing insight into continuity stewardship, editorial collaboration, and the balance between ambitious ideas and reader expectations, before closing on a seasonal note as he talks about specific holiday traditions such as winter outings like sledding, revisiting favorite Christmas movies, and enjoying local holiday events and markets with his family as a way to slow down and reconnect during the end-of-year rush.

Do you agree more with Nikki Minaj or Jon Stewart politically? That's a strange question! We talk about tribalism and whether or not the right owns Christianity, as Stewart claims.
Jon Stewart (not the comedian/political commentator) has had an interesting life. He's been a professional wrestler, politician, and businessman, as well as a highly-respected independent investigator in the UFO/UAP community, specializing in the 1997 Alien Interview case.He joined me today for a fascinating conversation about what he's learned throughout his career about the potential presence of higher-order non-human intelligent life on Earth. It was as wild, deep, scary, intriguing, and sobering as you might expect it to be.Yet, it was also oddly comforting.I hope you like it.

Jace and Rocky return for another Comic Boom! / Comic Source DC Spotlight for the week of December 10, 2025, kicking off with holiday updates on gift guides, Fireside Chats, and year-end scheduling before diving into a varied slate of nine DC books. They start with Action Comics #1093, where the Silver Age tone, moral dilemmas, and standout Skylar Patridge art drive a strong Superboy-focused chapter; then move into Batman and Robin #28, a top-tier issue that deepens the Quiet Man mystery, expands the Ventriloquist twist, and showcases why Phillip Kennedy Johnson's run will be so missed. In DC KO, Aquaman #12 becomes the week's breakout as Jeremy Adams and John Timms push Arthur's power set to astonishing levels in a visually explosive Hawkman showdown. Gotham by Gaslight: A League for Justice #6 gets praise for world-building but mixed reactions for a rushed, multiversal conclusion, while Supergirl #8 lands as a quiet, emotional holiday detour centered on loneliness, legacy, and the Linda-robot twist. Scott Snyder and Jock's Absolute Batman #15 earns divided reactions—Rocky loving its monstrous Joker origin while Jace ranks it lowest out of personal preference—leading into the universally panned DC KO: Wonder Woman vs. Lobo, a structurally chaotic, inconsistently illustrated, rule-breaking oddity that squanders a marquee matchup. The guys close with Green Lantern Corps #11, a strong, character-rich chapter spotlighting Ellie, Jon Stewart, Equanar's origin, and the growing Corps-wide stakes, before wrapping with Children of the Round Table #4, a well-executed setup issue introducing each magical weapon, expanding the Camelot training mythology, and dropping a sharp political twist with Mordred influencing the U.S. presidency. As always, the episode ends with full rankings, collected-edition recommendations, and reminders to catch the video on Comic Boom! and the audio on The Comic Source podcast feed.

In this hilarious, vulnerable, and fast-moving episode, comedian Jay Jurden joins Lip Service to break down everything from his new Hulu special Yes Ma’am to sexuality, marriage, family, and the wild reality of being a queer Black comic in today’s comedy boom. Jay opens up about filming his debut hour in New Orleans — “the gayest, Blackest city in the South” — and why the energy of the Joy Theater made it the perfect home for his special. Jay gets real about his relationship: being bisexual while married to a gay man, how they first met in college, who proposed to whom (yes, there were multiple proposals), navigating honesty, threesomes, poly dynamics in NYC, and why they chose to make their long-term commitment official. He also shares how moving to New York together shaped their marriage, how writing for Jon Stewart changed their lives, and why their wedding meant so much to their families. The comedy talk goes deep — from Paul Mooney’s legacy and “sassy” influence, to how few openly gay Black male comedians exist, to messy behind-the-scenes stories like the Breakfast Club interview that never aired. Jay reveals the pressure comics face to always be funny, how trauma shows up on stage, and why he loves when comedians “act up a little” in interviews instead of playing it safe. The episode gets even wilder when the group dives into dating culture, straight men “testing boundaries,” Grindr chaos, dick-pic economics, being catfished, OnlyFans, and the reality of queer men navigating hookup culture versus long-term partnership. Jay also talks about changing his voice around straight men, working at Abercrombie, coming out to his mom while watching Will & Grace and What Not to Wear, and why she always secretly knew. Jay shows love to the people who have lifted him up — Wanda Sykes, Bob the Drag Queen, Taylor Tomlinson, and even the cast of Abbott Elementary, especially Janelle James. He reflects on comedy’s evolution, how Black queer voices are reshaping the landscape, and why it’s crucial for younger comics to be given the spotlight. Finally, he breaks down how his Hulu special came to be, the risks he took to make it happen, and what’s next for him. Plus, Akeem Woods shares his viral Thanksgiving adventure — going to random followers’ homes for dinner — and the chaotic, heartwarming stories that followed. This episode is packed with jokes, honesty, queer insight, southern charm, and nonstop energy from two of the funniest voices in comedy today.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In Joke Farming: How to Write Comedy and Other Nonsense, Elliott Kalan (U Chicago Press, 2025) explains that it's easier to write jokes when you have a dependable method for doing so. All jokes, he argues, are built from the same elements: structure, premise, voice, tone, wording, and audience—and these elements can be applied to any comedic genre, from stand-up to sitcoms to satire. Kalan analyzes examples from his own career—including jokes that he wrote (and rewrote and rewrote and rewrote . . . ) as head writer for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart—as well as material from a diverse array of comedians, writers, and filmmakers, highlighting the phrasing, rhythm, and precise details that make their work so dang funny.Drawing on his experiences in professional writers' rooms as well as episodes from everyday life, Kalan's guide to jokes will appeal to aspiring writers, their mentors, comedy fans, and anyone who has to speak at a wedding. Joke Farming points the way toward a writing process that lessens stress and agony and yields more reliable rewards: a surprising tagline, a hilarious word choice, and—most importantly—a bigger laugh from the audience, whoever they may be. Joke Farming points the way toward a writing process that lessens stress and agony and yields more reliable rewards: a surprising tagline, a hilarious word choice, and—most importantly—a bigger laugh from the audience, whoever they may be. A lot to get into with Torey Van Oot with Axios including some of the buzz we experienced on late night comedy with Jon Stewart recapping some of the disrespectful comments President Trump made about Governor Tim Walz, a new GOP candidate has joined the fray in the Governor's race, and MN Taxpayer fraud with Somali terrorists - what is the latest!
With late night in flux, three hosts dominated the conversation in November 2025: Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, and Jon Stewart. Their shows—shaped by political crossfire, personal loss, and a shifting competitive landscape—anchor the latest edition of LateNighter's Monthly Roundtable, as Bill Carter, Mark Malkoff, and Jon Schneider take stock of the late-night stories that defined November.
Fresh off their decisive election night wins, Jon is joined by Governors-Elect (and former congressional roommates) Mikie Sherrill of New Jersey and Abigail Spanberger of Virginia, to reflect on their journeys from Capitol Hill to state leadership. Together, they discuss their shared experience navigating Congressional gridlock, explore what drew them to seek executive power, and examine what they hope to accomplish for their states as governor. Plus, what do Thanksgiving, Ozempic, and big balls have in common? “Do you think the internet's rankings truly reflect who belongs at the top—or are they just a reflection of who shouts the loudest?” That's the question JB and Sandy tackle in this lively episode, where the duo dives into the controversial late-night host rankings from ranker.com and the surprising absence of icons like Jay Leno and Jimmy Kimmel from the top spots. The conversation sparks nostalgia and debate, with Sandy reminiscing about interviewing Jon Stewart before his rise to fame and JB sharing a once-in-a-lifetime story about answering a call from the legendary Johnny Carson at his first radio job in Omaha, Nebraska. Listeners are treated to memorable moments, including Sandy's candid admission of benefiting from wheelchair assistance at airports—a story that segues into a timely debate about travel ethics, airline policies, and karma. The hosts don't shy away from tough questions: “How do you enforce fairness without being insensitive?” and “Is karma real when it comes to travel hacks?” The episode is packed with laughter, self-reflection, and sharp commentary on everything from hockey fights cancer night to Southwest Airlines' new seating policies.Notable Quotes:“I would put Fallon before Conan O'Brien. And Fallon, by the way, just had it 25. Weird.”“My mother has to use those services… She's 83 years old and has a tough time getting around. So for able-bodied people, that's bad karma.”“JB, tell everybody your trick on how to get people to not sit in the middle seat. ‘Just the Lord.'”Call-to-Action If you enjoyed this episode, don't forget to subscribe, leave a review, and share The JB and Sandy Show with friends who love lively debates, radio legends, and real-life stories. Jon Stewart has been a leading figure in political comedy since before the turn of the millennium. But compared to his early years on Comedy Central's “The Daily Show”—when Stewart was merciless in his attacks on George W. Bush's Administration—these are much more challenging times for late-night comedians. Jimmy Kimmel nearly lost his job over a remark about MAGA supporters of Charlie Kirk, after the head of the F.C.C. threatened ABC. CBS recently announced the cancellation of Stephen Colbert's program. And Stewart now finds himself very near the hot seat: Comedy Central is controlled by David Ellison, the Trump-friendly C.E.O. of the recently merged Paramount Skydance. Stewart's contract comes up in December. “You're going to sign another one?” David Remnick asked him, in a live interview at The New Yorker Festival. “We're working on staying,” Stewart said. “You don't compromise on what you do. You do it till they tell you to leave. That's all you can do.” Stewart, moreover, doesn't blame solely Donald Trump for recent attacks on the independence of the media, universities, and other institutions. “This is the hardest truth for us to get at, is that [these] institutions . . . have problems. They do. And, if we don't address those problems in a forthright way, then those institutions become vulnerable to this kind of assault. Credibility is not something that was just taken. It was also lost.” In fact, Stewart also directs his ire at “the Democratic Party, [which] thinks it's O.K. for their Senate to be an assisted-living facility.” “In the general-populace mind, government no longer serves the interests of the people it purports to represent. That's a broad-based, deep feeling. And that helps when someone comes along and goes, ‘The system is rigged,' and people go, ‘Yeah, it is rigged.' Now, he's a good diagnostician. I don't particularly care for his remedy.”This episode was recorded live at The New Yorker Festival, on October 26, 2025. New episodes of The New Yorker Radio Hour drop every Tuesday and Friday. On this episode of “Fearless,” Jason Whitlock is joined by Paul Burkhardt and Jay Skapinac to analyze another disappointing Michael Jordan appearance on NBC.
