Spider-Man is finally back, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day might be one of the strongest Spider-Man movies ever made! In this episode of SuperHero Homies, our panel of four Spider-Man fans dives into a full review of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, beginning with a completely spoiler-free review before jumping into a full spoiler discussion covering the biggest twists, the ending, the post-credit scene, and what the future holds for Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. SPOILER WARNING The first half of this episode is 100% spoiler-free, making it perfect to watch before heading to the theater. The second half contains full spoilers for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. In Our Spoiler-Free Review We Discuss: Our overall thoughts on Spider-Man: Brand New Day Tom Holland's performance as Peter Parker Peter's incredible character growth The movie's comic book accuracy and feel The outstanding cinematography The supporting cast The pacing and story Why this movie feels like classic Spider-Man Whether it's one of the MCU's best films One thing all four of us agreed on is that Brand New Day truly feels like a Spider-Man story. The heart, humor, emotional stakes, and grounded storytelling combine to create a movie that celebrates everything fans have loved about the character for decades. The action deserves special recognition. We believe this movie features arguably the greatest fight scenes ever put on screen in a Spider-Man film, blending incredible choreography, creative web-slinging, emotional storytelling, and spectacular visual effects into unforgettable set pieces. Full Spoiler Discussion Once the spoiler wall comes down, we dive deep into: The film's biggest reveals The villain and our mixed opinions Why the four of us disagreed on certain story decisions Favorite moments The emotional highlights Easter eggs and comic book references The incredible action sequences The ending explained The post-credit stinger What comes next for Peter Parker Our predictions for Spider-Man's future in the MCU Our panel was surprisingly divided. Two of us absolutely loved the movie, while two of us thought it was really good without quite reaching greatness. That difference of opinion led to one of our most engaging discussions yet as we debated the strengths, weaknesses, and lasting impact of Brand New Day. Even with those disagreements, every one of us walked away believing this movie has something special for every Spider-Man fan. Whether you grew up with the comics, the Raimi trilogy, The Amazing Spider-Man, or Tom Holland's MCU adventures, there's a lot here to appreciate. Grab Official SuperHero Homies Merchandise! It is a brand new episode this week when Derek Miranda (@DerekMiranda85) and Karen Peterson (@KarenMPeterson) sit down to talk SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY. We're also catching up on what we've been watching lately, a quick chat about new trailers, and an overview of Spider-Man's journey through the MCU. As always, featured reviews are done in two parts, a NON-SPOILER review with letter grade and brief discussion, followed by a more in depth SPOILER review. PLOT SUMMARY: It's a BRAND NEW DAY for Peter Parker. Fighting crime full-time as Spider-Man in a world that doesn't remember him—and the pressure of seeing his old friends move on without him—sparks a change in Peter he may not have the power to control. But that transformation might also be the only thing that can stop a shocking new threat to the city and those he loves - a powerful villain no one can even see. The world may have forgotten Peter Parker, but he hasn't forgotten them. Directed by: Destin Daniel Cretton Written by: Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers Starring: Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jon Bernthal, Jacob Batalon, Liza Colón-Zayas, Mark Ruffalo, Tramell Tillman *Image from SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY courtesy of Sony Pictures.   @TheWatchAndTalk (Twitter/Instagram) Letterboxd.com/TheWatchandTalk Facebook.com/TheWatchAndTalk www.TheWatchAndTalk.com TheWatchAndTalk@gmail.com Support the show! www.Patreon.com/TheWatchAndTalk

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day picks up the pieces in a world that completely forgot Peter Parker exists. Tom Holland returns as a more mature, isolated wall-crawler dedicating every waking second to street-level protection. But the relentless pressure of fighting crime full-time—while watching his old friends move on—triggers a dangerous and unexpected physical evolution in his powers, setting the stage for a massive clash against high-level threats and a mysterious telepathic force. Fun Flix Fact: Tom Holland collaborated closely with director Destin Daniel Cretton to lean into the psychological toll of anonymity, purposely portraying a grittier, more frayed version of Peter Parker whose intense isolation begins manifesting in startling physical changes. Fun Flix Fact: The production utilised practical, street-level stunt coordination on location in New York and Atlanta to capture a grounded, gritty aesthetic that mirrors classic comic runs, distinguishing it visually from sprawling cosmic team-ups. To celebrate a decade of fractured friendships and high-stakes superhero politics, we are looking back at Anthony and Joe Russo's Captain America: Civil War (2016). We break down how this massive blockbuster successfully juggled a sprawling ensemble cast while redefining the emotional core of the MCU. Fun Flix Fact: The iconic, airport-tarmac battle sequence took over three weeks of night shoots to complete, utilising a massive blue-screen stage combined with practical hangar locations in Germany to ground the physics of the clash.Fun Flix Fact: Tom Holland's debut performance as Spider-Man in this very film was kept under such tight wraps by Marvel that he wasn't even allowed to tell his friends which movie set he was flying off to shoot! And if that's not enough entertainment for you, we've even thrown in new trailers to watch and what you can catch on streaming. Hit that subscribe button right now so you never miss an episode of The Flixters! For this week's main podcast review, Katie Johnson and Josh Parham join me to review and discuss the latest MCU Tom Holland Spider-Man film, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day," starring Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Florence Pugh, Tramell Tillman, Marisa Tomei, and Mark Ruffalo. Taking over from Jon Watts director Destin Daniel Cretton steps into the director's chair and brings the larger than life spectacle of the MCU back down to the ground a little bit as the reset button is hit following the events of 2021's "No Way Home," where those who knew Peter Parker cannot remember him any longer, thus forcing our favorite web-slinger into isolation and depression, which leads to some unexpected changes in his DNA while a new mysterious foe emerges that will have ramifications across the entire MCU. Also, Bruce Banner (aka. Hulk), Frank Castle (aka. Punisher), and Yelena Belova (aka. Black Widow) show up! What did we think of it? We've tuned out of Marvel on the podcast for a little while, but one of the eternally entertaining superheroes, Spider-Man, reignites our interest with Brand New Day. With Doctor Strange having cast a spell at the end of 2021's No Way Home to make the entire world forget Peter Parker, for reasons that Doctor Strange presumably cast another spell to make us forget, Peter, newly isolated, returns to fighting street-level crime in New York City while pining for his old relationships and suffering severe headaches. Can he revive his former life? Surely it wouldn't be a Marvel film if an enormously significant, cliff-hanging event had permanent consequences. Still, even for those as cynical as it's possible to be about the MCU, Brand New Day has plenty to recommend it. It aims for thematic depth - though how fully that's achieved is up for discussion - and is genuinely moving. Indeed, certain moments move the audience to cheer and applaud, which in turn moves Mike to harrumph bitterly. Destin Daniel Cretton, directing his second MCU entry following Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, demonstrates a gift for working with actors and a strong instinct for staging action, although Cineworld does its best to undermine those virtues with its poor projection. We also return to our discussion of IMAX and The Odyssey, asking whether the frame's envelopment of the visual field impedes filmmakers' ability to express through composition and framing, and considering whether there's something fundamentally anti-democratic about making films whose fullest form can only be experienced at a handful of cinemas around the world. Recorded on 1st August 2026.

Spider-Man Brand New Day Review Spider-Man is terug en hoe. In This Episode We Discuss: Our full Avengers: Doomsday trailer reaction Doctor Doom's possible motivations and master plan Why Thor finally feels like a true leader again Steve Rogers' shocking appearance Is this the real Captain America or a Variant?
