Disney got seriously weird in the 1980s! From sinister carnivals to kids shrunk down to the size of insects, we're heading back to a decade when the Mouse House was trying just about everything. Jay and Shua revisit some of Disney's strangest, darkest, most ambitious, and most memorable live-action movies of the '80s. We'll talk about the movies that pushed technology forward, discovered future stars, scared an entire generation, and helped Disney find its way toward the blockbuster era.   News Atari Retro Collections Are Coming - Atari is bringing back classic gaming experiences with collections featuring RollerCoaster Tycoon, Barbie, Toy Story, and Godzilla. Atari and Activision Bring Back 39 Classic Games - Atari is re-releasing 39 working physical Activision cartridges, including classics like Pitfall!, River Raid, and Kaboom! The One Piece Anime Remake Is Coming to Netflix - The new WIT Studio adaptation will premiere globally in February 2027 with its first seven episodes covering the beginning of the manga through the Baratie arc. Even though the episodes have leaned heavily into some very bizarre genres, he's having a lot of fun with the show and is looking forward to its final season. Shua finally got to check out the much-discussed Coyote vs. Acme, the movie that was famously shelved before eventually finding a new home. Directed by Dave Green and written by Samy Burch with James Gunn and Jeremy Slater, the film has had quite the journey before finally making its way toward audiences. MCU Location Scout MCULocationScout.com is Jay's ongoing project documenting and exploring real-world filming locations used throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe and related Marvel television productions. Through detailed research, photos, and travel guides, fans can discover where their favorite Marvel moments were filmed. Jay has been diving into Season 1 of Iron Fist, tracking down more of the locations used in the Netflix series, including some of its elusive New York City locations. You can explore the locations and see exactly where the MCU came to life at MCULocationScout.com. And don't forget to check out all of Jay's Sci-Fi Saturdays on RetroZap. You can also tune in to SHIELD: Case Files where Jay and Shua breakdown Marvel properties and Superhero Suite for news on comics, movies, TV and more.     Enjoy The Wonderful Weird of Disney! Disney's 1980s live-action movies were anything but predictable. Welcome to Multiverse News, your source for information about all your favorite fictional universes.Avengers: Secret Wars doesn't seem so far away these days, especially with the surprise announcement from Deadline that A Quiet Place and Hamnet star Noah Jupe is the first to land a new, secret role in the film. We're on the precipice of Avengers: Doomsday this December and still don't know much about the plot, but that doesn't mean we're not ready to speculate! The MCU continues to pile on record-breaking stats, with the Avengers: Endgame Encore trailer garnering 77 million views within the first 24-hours of its release. This shatters any previously held record for a re-released film trailer; that number is more than four times any other amount. Spider-Man: Brand New Day took the number one spot at the box office again this weekend and has passed Avengers: Endgame to become the second highest grossing domestic film of all time. At number two, Ketchup Entertainment's theatrical rescue of Warner Bros Animation's Coyote vs. Acme hit its forecast with a very solid $15.4 million opening. 20th Century Studios' Ridley Scott dystopian future Jacob Elordi, Margaret Qualley, and Josh Brolin movie, Dog Stars, had a low $8 million opening off a $70 million production cost. Casper Kelly's horror comedy Buddy took the number six spot at the domestic box office with $5.36 million, a solid start for a film that was released on less than 1,800 total screens. In an interview with The L.A. Times, Ridley Scott confirmed that there is a sequel to 2017's Alien: Covenant in active development. He said the film “will pick up with David (Fassbender) creating a ‘brave new world for himself." Tim Curry who rose to fame in Hollywood for his iconic roles in It, Clue, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show has passed away at the age of 80. Anne Hathaway has joined the cast of Days of Thunder 2 at Paramount alongside returning star Tom Cruise. Paramount has also announced that the film will be released June 2, 2028. HBO Max released the first full trailer for Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. The series will premiere over Christmas.Showrunner Tom King confirmed to Entertainment Weekly that Nathan Fillion will reprise his role of Green Lantern Guy Gardner in the DCU for the upcoming animated Mister Miracle series.Netflix has released the first trailer for East of Eden, Zoe Kazan's adaptation of the John Steinbeck novel that stars Florence Pugh. The limited series is seven episodes long and will begin streaming on October 1.

X-Men '97 Is STILL Great... So Why Does Season 2 Feel Off?

    Super Hero Homies!

X-Men '97 Season 2 has officially come to an end! After an incredible first season, did Marvel Animation manage to recapture the magic, or did Season 2 bite off more than it could chew? In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we give our full spoiler-filled review of X-Men '97 Season 2 Episodes 5-9, including the season finale, Apocalypse, Nightcrawler, the incredible action and animation, our biggest criticisms, and what we want from X-Men '97 Season 3. But first, we've got a hefty 40-minute cold open! COLD OPEN: FIRST 40 MINUTES DRAGON CON 2026 We're heading to Dragon Con starting September 3rd, and we'll be there all weekend! We're excited to experience the convention and hopefully meet some fellow SuperHero Homies along the way. If you see us wandering around Dragon Con, come say hello! SODA CITY COMIC CON We also recap our trip to Soda City Comic Con, where we had the opportunity to meet Wilson Bethel, better known as Bullseye from Daredevil and Daredevil: Born Again, and the legendary Peter Weller, star of RoboCop. We share stories from both encounters and our overall experience at the convention. ARE THE FOX X-MEN MOVIES UNDERRATED? With X-Men hotter than ever, we revisit the Fox X-Men movie franchise and ask whether these films deserve more credit. The franchise definitely had some lows, but movies like Logan and X-Men: Days of Future Past remain among the greatest comic book movies ever made. So... have we been too hard on the Fox X-Men? THE BATMAN JOINS THE DCU?! Could Matt Reeves' Batman eventually be folded into James Gunn's larger DC Universe? We discuss the possibility of Robert Pattinson's Batman sharing the screen with David Corenswet's Superman, whether that combination could actually work, and what it would mean for the future of the DCU. We also discuss our excitement for Batman: Knightfall Part 1 and the chilling new Absolute Batman Mr. Freeze origin story. LANTERNS We're loving Lanterns! Unfortunately, we haven't had enough time to review the series weekly, but we give our thoughts on what we've seen so far and why we can't wait to give the show a proper review. X-MEN '97 SEASON 2 FULL SPOILERS After the cold open, we dive into X-Men '97 Season 2 Episodes 5-9 and the finale. There's still a LOT to love about this series. The animation, voice acting, superhero action, fight scenes, comic book references, and character work remain top-notch. Certain characters and storylines are handled exceptionally well, particularly Nightcrawler, who continues to be one of our favorite characters. But Season 2 also left us frustrated. We discuss: • Apocalypse and his Season 2 storyline • The disappointing conclusion to the overarching conflict • Why certain Apocalypse storylines feel half-baked • Nightcrawler's fantastic character development • The incredible animation and voice acting • Some of the season's best fight scenes • Our favorite and least favorite moments • The disjointed storytelling • Season 2's pacing problems • How Season 2 compares to Season 1 • The X-Men '97 Season 2 ending • Our theories and predictions for Season 3 Our biggest issue is that Season 2 simply needed more room to breathe. There are great ideas throughout these episodes, but important story beats sometimes move so quickly that they don't receive the emotional weight or development they deserve. The overarching Apocalypse storyline is especially frustrating because such an iconic X-Men villain deserved a more fulfilling conclusion. That doesn't mean we've suddenly stopped loving X-Men '97. Far from it. We still think this is an excellent superhero animated series with fantastic characters, gorgeous animation, phenomenal action, and a clear love for Marvel Comics and X-Men history. Season 1 simply set an incredibly high bar, and Season 2 doesn't quite reach it. We're still VERY excited for X-Men '97 Season 3, and we're hoping Marvel Animation slows things down just enough to let its biggest moments breathe. JOIN THE DISCUSSION Did X-Men '97 Season 2 stick the landing? Was Apocalypse handled properly? Was Season 1 better? And what do YOU want to see in Season 3? Let us know in the comments! D23 delivered some HUGE announcements for Marvel fans, and we're breaking down the biggest news, trailers, casting reveals, and theories coming out of the event! In this episode of SuperHero Homies, we dive into the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer, the latest MCU X-Men casting announcements, Doctor Doom, Incursions, Mr. Sinister, Jean Grey, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Kingdom Hearts, and the premiere of DC's Lanterns! AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY TRAILER BREAKDOWN We start with the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer and everything it potentially reveals about Marvel's next massive crossover event. We discuss: • Doctor Doom's role in Avengers: Doomsday • Could Doom experience a heel turn during the movie? • Doctor Doom's potential motivations and master plan • Why Incursions may be the REAL threat • How Incursions work in Marvel Comics • Which Avengers could die in Doomsday • The movie's biggest trailer reveals • How Doomsday could set up Avengers: Secret Wars • Our theories for the future of the MCU Doctor Doom may be positioned as the movie's major antagonist, but we're theorizing that the true threat could be much bigger than any individual villain. With the Multiverse collapsing and Incursions threatening entire realities, could Doom actually become necessary to saving the MCU? And with the stakes this high, we're asking the painful question: Which Avengers aren't making it out alive? MCU X-MEN CASTING & THEORIES Next, we dive into the new X-Men casting announcements and theorize about Marvel Studios' upcoming 2028 X-Men movie. We discuss: • The new MCU X-Men cast • Which mutants could join the team • What Marvel's version of the X-Men could look like • Mr. Sinister's potential role • Could Mr. Sinister be the main villain? • Jean Grey's future in the MCU • Mutants finally becoming a major part of Marvel Studios • How the X-Men could connect to the post-Secret Wars MCU We also discuss Jean Grey's role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day and how her story could directly influence the upcoming X-Men movie. Could Spider-Man actually help lay the groundwork for Marvel's mutant era? MR. SINISTER We get particularly nerdy discussing Mr. Sinister, his comic book history, obsession with mutant genetics, and why he could be an excellent villain for the MCU's first major X-Men story. After years of Magneto dominating X-Men adaptations, is it finally time for another classic mutant villain to take center stage? KINGDOM HEARTS RETURNS! We also briefly discuss the surprising announcement of a new Kingdom Hearts TV series and a new Kingdom Hearts game. What could a Kingdom Hearts television adaptation even look like? How heavily will Disney characters be involved? And are we prepared to once again pretend we understand the Kingdom Hearts timeline? LANTERNS EPISODE 1 Finally, we jump over to DC Studios for our thoughts on the first episode of Lanterns. And so far... We really like it! We discuss our first impressions, the show's characters, mystery, tone, and why we're excited to see where the series takes Hal Jordan, John Stewart, and the Green Lantern mythology. JOIN THE DISCUSSION What was the biggest D23 announcement? What is Doctor Doom's real plan? Which Avengers survive Doomsday? Who should join the MCU X-Men? Could Mr. Sinister finally get his time to shine? And what did YOU think of Lanterns Episode 1? Let us know in the comments! On our first Comic Book Bears livestream for August 2026, the CBB boys (Steve, Caleb and Billy Z) spoke about Spider-Man: Brand New Day soon after it was released to cinemas. Here we are at the end of the month and it is still dominating the global box office, and now that livestream is here in audio form! The movie is the 38th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the fourth film in the MCU Spider-Man film series. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man alongside Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Florence Pugh, Marisa Tomei, and Mark Ruffalo with Sadie Sink as a major Marvel Comics character making her MCU debut. In the film, Peter Parker is on his own and dedicated to protecting New York City as Spider-Man, just as personal struggles and an evolutionary development to his superpowers complicate matters while contending with a new threat. As is the tradition when we have a film-based episode, we offer up what we thought of the movie (be forewarned, in a very spoileriffic manner) and then we each make a suggestion regarding a collected edition featuring characters from the film. After that we even get in a little bit of roundtable time to talk about some recent comics - in this case, Terminal #1 by Robert Kirkman, Joe Casey and Adam Kubert (Image Comics), the final installment of Heartstopper by Alice Oseman (Graphix) and the latest installments of Silence (#5: Dream and #6: Nightmare), the queer themed wordless project from Łukasz Majcher's Moom Comics! So hit play for all this and more!

We hit a real milestone this week and decided the only appropriate way to celebrate was with the triumphant return of the Dour Hour, a healthy dose of existential dread, and a time-travel plot so convoluted it makes the MCU look coherent. A mysterious, dying visitor claiming to be "us, but from the future" shows up begging for help preventing a mysterious anomaly from destroying the podcast (and possibly the universe), and against our better judgment, we go along with it. What follows is a multiverse-of-madness style show where we bounce between branching timelines, run into past versions of ourselves who definitely do not remember any of this happening, and try to figure out if the real threat is a cursed shirt, a hot sauce marketing meeting, an AI-generated void slowly eating a bedroom, or just the concept of getting canceled. Naturally, the only way out involves some extremely questionable cybersecurity practices, and the return of a gun that shoots people through the internet. Along the way we revisit some all-time deep cuts, including several increasingly unstable Spencer-from-the-future variants, appearances from Ariel Day, and the eternal question of why Spencer only owns one shirt. Is it a clip show? A time travel story? A cry for help? Yes. Join us for 250 episodes of this nonsense as we attempt, and mostly fail, to save the timeline, the podcast, and whatever's left of our dignity. Learn more about your ad choices. Movie Mike ranks all 11 theatrical Spider-Man movies from Tobey Maguire's original trilogy and Andrew Garfield's two films to Tom Holland's MCU movies and the animated Spider-Verse films. Plus the messy Spider-man rights, controversy of who actually created the character, and how did Jake Gyllenhaal almost play Spider-Man before becoming Mysterio?! In the Movie Review, Mike talks about The End of Oak Street starring Anne Hathaway. It’s about a mysterious cosmic event that rips Oak Street from suburbia and transports a family’s neighborhood to someplace unknown. Mike talks about why it’s no Jurassic Park but that’s a good thing, Anne Hathaway’s great physical performance and why it caught him by surprise. In the Trailer Park, Mike talks about Primetime starring Robert Pattinson as former "To Catch a Predator" host Chris Hansen during the height of the show's success. Mike talks about the amazing run Robert Pattinson is having and wonders how some actors feel about being cast as the ‘predators’? New Episodes Every Monday!
