John's monologue focuses on Trump's racist post showing Barrack and Michelle Obama as gorillas. He also talks about alternate right wing Super Bowl half-time show featuring the vulgar, racist, and oh-so fake Christian - Kid Rock. Next, he talks with former attorney, organizer, and journalist based near Atlanta - Anjali Enjeti about her new book "BALLOT" which examines the psychological, cultural, and political significance of voting in an increasingly anti-voting climate. And finally, John jokes with TV's Frank Conniff of MST3K and they take calls from listeners on Trump's latest bullshit and the super snowflakes clutching their pearls over Bad Bunny's music.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Hump day is here and we're looking at another high in the mid-20's today. Likely going to be in the upper 30's by tomorrow. Jean's final day in the studio this week as she's off on Thursday & Friday. In the news this morning, Minute Maid announced that they are discontinuing their canned & frozen juices after EIGHTY years, the latest on the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie's mom, more legislation introduced in Wisconsin for the legalization of marijuana, and the famous bald eagles in CA unfortunately lost two eggs. In sports, the Bucks finally got a win last night over the Bulls, the Badgers play at home against Indiana on Saturday morning, no trade for Giannis just yet but James Harden is on the move, the results of last night's Pro Bowl, and Robert Kraft…much like Bill Belichick, won't be getting into the Hall of Fame this year. We talked about what's on TV today/tonight and we discussed the possibility that Ozzfest returns in 2027! And if you've always wanted to own a home made famous by a TV show, you're in luck! The house from "Breaking Bad" just got a major price-slash! Also, it looks like we're getting some new episodes of MST3K thanks to a VERY successful crowd-funding campaign. Elsewhere in sports, the College Football Playoff schedule for the next two years gets released with some noticeable changes, the American flag-bearers at the Olympics get named, and Lindsey Vonn is planning on competing in Milan despite having suffered some major damage to her left knee. And speaking of the Olympics, our favorite event at the upcoming Winter games is apparently snowboarding. Cool story about a teacher in Michigan who just set a Guinness World Record for the "longest career as a language teacher". What are some etiquette tips that we should all know? We talked about the moment we realized we weren't young anymore. And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a new beer brewed with an extremely bizarre ingredient, a moron in Massachusetts who tried to melt ice on his roof with a blowtorch, a guy in Indy who robbed a Taco Bell with some pruning shears, a #FloridaWoman who's in trouble after her kid showed up to kindergarten with a gun in their backpack, a deer that crashed through a living-room window of a home in #Florida, and a cop that went above & beyond to catch a stolen-bike suspect.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Award-winning writer/comedian and longtime Marx Brothers obsessive Elliott Kalan ("The Daily Show", "MST3K", "The Flop House", and the new book, "Joke Farming") takes us deep into the craft of professional comedy writing with a nice dose of Marx-inspired examples. Elliott details the difference between satire and parody, defends the noble pun, and tells the story behind his delightfully chaotic Marx-flavored children's book, "Sharko and Hippo".
To close out the parent's basement themed week, Tom & JJ reflect with Cam on the infamous movies featured on Mystery Science Theater 3000/RiffTrax that actually aren't a pain to endure nor unwatchable. There Are Worser Crimes Against Cinema! SONG USED: "A Clown in the Sky" by Farid Barron Trio

This week, my guest is the legendary FRANK CONNIFF (of Mystery Science Theater 3000 fame!!!), who picked the equally legendary Jacques Demy film, The Young Girls Of Rochefort!, to discuss as his music film!!We discuss Frank's introduction into the MST3K world, how their show grew through grass roots and tape trading, the process of how MST3K would put together a show every week, the lack of cable tv in the US when their show first came on, how MST3K felt like being in a band for Frank, how he picked the films for their show and what the failsafes for jokes were, Ed Wood, can a movie like The Young Girls Of Rochefort get riffed on, actor Jack Webb's anti-hippie stance, The Umbrellas Of Cherbourg, Criterion laser discs, Frank accidentally coming across Rochefort on tv, how Demy's films could transport you emotionally with just a color, the incredible Michele Legrand score that is relentlessly non-stop fantastic, how the film casually drops in a serial killer storyline, Catherine Deneuve and her real-life sister Françoise Dorléac's performances in the film together, West Side Story and actor George Chakiris, how they shot two different versions of Rochefort at the same time (one in French and one in English), how sexy everyone looks in the film, the surprise of Gene Kelly showing up in this film and his later fllm roles including Viva Knievel & Xandau and more!So let's turn around on a moment's notice and suddenly leap into the air as soon as someone beautiful has just passed us on the street on this week's Revolutions Per Movie!!!FRANK CONNIFF: https://frankconniff.com/https://dumb-industries.com/themadsarebackhttps://dumb-industries.com/store/books/frank-conniffYOUNG GIRLS OF ROCHEFORT: French Language Version: https://archive.org/details/the-young-girls-of-rochefortEnglish Language Version (rare workprint found of part of the film): https://archive.org/details/the-young-girls-of-rochefort-english-reelREVOLUTIONS PER MOVIE:Host Chris Slusarenko (Eyelids, Guided By Voices, owner of Clinton Street Video rental store) is joined by actors, musicians, comedians, writers & directors who each week pick out their favorite music documentary, musical, music-themed fiction film or music videos to discuss. Actor and comedian Baron Vaughn is familiar to audiences for his work on Grace & Frankie, Mystery Science Theater 3000, and The New Negroes with friend of the show Open Mike Eagle. He's familiar to his family for watching a whole lot of those multi-episode, sepia photograph-intensive, history rich documentaries by Ken Burns on subjects like baseball, the Civil War, the Brooklyn Bridge, and Doritos, although we made that last one up. Baron tells us all about his favorite Burns works and why he actually hasn't made his way all the way through most of them because, yeah you guessed it, he dozes off after a while.
