This time John discusses federal judge Christopher Cooper who ordered Trump's name to be removed from the Kennedy Center. And then another federal judge has temporarily stopped the creation of a $1.8bn government fund to compensate individuals who claimed to be targets of political investigation by previous presidential administrations. Judge Leonie Brinkema barred the justice department from taking any steps to stand up or operate the fund - including processing or dispersing claims - until a preliminary hearing on June 12th. And then another federal judge - Kathleen Williams - ordered the IRS case into Trump re-opened and called his 1776 Terror Slush Fund into question. John then welcomes back journalist and political analyst for CNN, Brian Karem, to talk about the ceasing of the Iran ceasefire and his new podcast "Just Ask the Question". And then finally, TV's Frank Conniff from MST3K returns to joke with John and listeners about Trump's pathetic almost cancelled Freedom 250 concert and birthday UFC cage fight.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

You have to call your friends once in a while and see how they're doing, especially if they're undergoing big changes and their city has been rocked with upheaval. Twin Cities-based actor and writer Bill Corbett will always be associated with Crow T. Robot, the wisecracking robotic commentator on bad films on Mystery Science Theater 3000. It's a part he played for many years and a part he'll be playing all over again as MST3K is in the process of a reuniting or sort of merger with Rifftrax, the comedy troupe he formed with Mike Nelson and Kevin Murphy. He and fellow Minnesotan/host John Moe share thoughts on the ICE surge and the heartening coming together of community that grew out of it. ALSO! John's monologue is two fold. First he talks about Iran announcing the Strait of Hormuz is fully open, albeit through a designated shipping lane determined by them. Trump told reporters Iran agreed to everything he asked for, including surrendering nuclear material. He also said the US side of the blockade will remain in effect after the strait is opened. Iranian officials spent most of their day refuting a great deal of Donald Trump's claims, stating that in fact there will be no transfer of enriched uranium. Then, John discusses Trump flunky John Eastman being disbarred in California. Next, he speaks with attorney and political strategist Lanny Davis about his new book Finding the Third Way. This is a refreshingly candid insider journey through the highest levels of government, applying the lessons of the Clinton years to offer a fresh perspective on how liberals can reconnect with “Trump Democrats” and how both parties can regain their faith in the American political system. And winding it up, John jokes with TV's Frank Conniff of MST3K and they take calls and answer questions from the Evil Army of the Night.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Next, he talks with former attorney, organizer, and journalist based near Atlanta - Anjali Enjeti about her new book "BALLOT" which examines the psychological, cultural, and political significance of voting in an increasingly anti-voting climate. And finally, John jokes with TV's Frank Conniff of MST3K and they take calls from listeners on Trump's latest bullshit and the super snowflakes clutching their pearls over Bad Bunny's music.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

On today's 16th anniversary episode, I talk to Emmy Award-winning TV and comic writer and podcaster Elliott Kalan. Originally from Millburn, NJ, Elliott started as a PA at The Daily Show in 2003 and eventually worked his way up to head writer. In addition to The Daily Show, he's written for the Academy Awards, MST3K, Netflix's upcoming Ghostbusters cartoon and many other shows. As a comic writer, he's written Spider-Man and the X-Men, Harley Quinn and his own Maniac of New York, and as a podcaster, Elliot has been one of the three hosts of the wonderful Flop House, which has been running since 2007. This is just a small sampling of Elliott's CV, and the latest addition is his new book Joke Farming: How to Write Comedy and Other Nonsense, which was just published by University of Chicago Press at the end of last year!
