The Great Compromise was a product of balancing the interests of the slaveholding south with the abolitionist north. Doing everything by population would have given a big advantage to the slaveholders. The result was a house that represented the population and a senate that made each state equal.

The United States Constitution is the Worlds Oldest Governing Document. It has survived World Wars, a Civil War and pandemics. Written in the summer of 1787 it has stood the test of time.
