We are commanded to put on the whole Armour of God in order to stand our ground in the victory of Christ (Ephesians 6:13). Then Paul describes 6 pieces of Armour in v14-17: (1) the Belt of Truth, (2) the Breastplate of Righteousness, (3) the Gospel Shoes, (4) the Shield of the Faith, (5) the Helmet of Salvation, and (6) the Sword of the Spirit. Then v18 describes a 7th item of our Armour – the Lances of Prayer: “praying always with all kinds of prayer and supplication in the Spirit.” Standing firm in our defensive Armour means that we are ready to launch our offensive long-range weapons – the Lances of Prayer. First, we study the Lance of Praise, which binds and silences the enemy (Psalm 8:1-2, Matthew 21:16, Psalm 149:6-9). Secondly, we study the Lance of the Sacrifice of Thanksgiving - thanking God in advance for the fulfilment of His promises and the manifested victory, based on His revealed character (faithfulness). This should be our lifestyle (Hebrews 12:15), and it prepares the way for God to show (manifest) His salvation (Psalm 50:23). Derek then illustrates the place and power of this Sacrifice in (1) the Feeding of the 5000 (John 6:11,23), (2) Jonah's deliverance from the great fish (Jonah 2:9-10), (3) Paul and Silas in prison (Acts 16:23-34), and (4) God fighting for Israel in the time of Jehoshaphat (2Chronicles 20). Finally, we study the Lance of the Prayer of Binding and Loosing in the Name of Jesus, where we use the Keys of the Kingdom to enforce Christ's finished work and completed victory on earth (Matthew 16:18-19, 18:18). We can bind and loose on earth, whatever Christ has already bound or loosed in Heaven through the New Covenant.

Part 4 The question that has plagued the Church of Jesus Christ for the duration of its 2000-year history is the question that shall be answered in this teaching.  The oldest heresy in Christianity was not the denial of the deity of Christ. The oldest heresy can be traced to the fifteenth chapter of the Book of Acts, to a sect of men who came down from Judea to the Gentile congregations of Antioch and the surrounding regions, who began teaching the Christians that Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved (Acts 15:1).  Thank God that this question was not left open for proceeding generations to play guess-work.  The answer to the question; Is the Law of Moses binding upon Christians?, was answered conclusively 2000 years ago in the first council of Jerusalem, and its conclusions have been set out in that 15th chapter of Acts.  One would think that this evidence would be enough to turn any law-seeking believer away from such pursuit and to guide them back to safety.  The fact remains, some 2000 years on, the question: Is the Law of Moses binding upon Christians?  For some, it is a resounding yes!  Leading the way in this is the Seventh-day Adventist Church, which for more than 160 years has promoted the continuing binding nature of the Law upon all.      Download teaching notes (pdf) https://traffic.libsyn.com/secure/bethesdashalom/4_Is_the_Law_Binding_Upon_Christians.pdf

Ronnie's exploration of Genesis arrives at one of the book's most difficult passages: What Jews call, "The Binding of Isaac." Ronnie says, "All ancient religions were built on the same foundation: 'God is angry…We stand in constant danger of being destroyed…Only the blood of the most precious - the most innocent - can save us.' So, when God comes to Abraham with this sinister demand, it wouldn't have sounded all that unusual to Abraham. Child sacrifice was a customary and common practice of the time. But this God - Yahweh - was not the fickle, unpredictable, bloodthirsty gods worshipped in Mesopotamia or Canaan or in MesoAmerica. This God had shown himself to be steady - trustworthy - gracious and good to Abraham. "Abraham's understanding of God should have been cross examined, for this was an opportunity to listen more closely - to test the spirits, as the Apostle John said - and demand better answers, better instructions; to hear the better word of a better God. Of course Abraham believed in God, but did Abraham believe in a good God? Of course Abraham had faith - we know he did - but did Abraham truly understand in whom his faith was placed? Abraham could be counted on to do as God told him - of course, it's Abraham But could Abraham be counted to see that the God he had come to know, was far better than any God he could imagine?"

Jesus has given us the authority cast demons out of our lives and if want a more victorious life, we must understand how this plays a role in spiritual warfare.

To give us the authority to spiritually bind or loose on earth, and know that in Jesus' name, God is doing the same is an awesome responsibility. God is trusting us with His name, and His power. The keys to authority come from acknowledging and submitting to the authority of Love. It is in Love that we fight for the souls of others. It is not for our rights, but for their safety and security. Let His Love be the binding of our hearts and loosing of His kingdom power on earth today.
