Dr. Mojgan Daneshmand was one of the 176 people who lost their lives on Ukrainian Airlines flight 176 from Tehran to Kiev on January 8th, 2020. In this episode we hear reflections from three of her former students: Nahid Vahabisani, RF Engineer with MDA Corporation Mohammad Zarifi, Assistant Professor at UBC Dorsa Nahid, 5th year Computer Engineering student at the U of A.

The trees that recently arrived in the NREF 2nd floor atrium were the result of an initiative by a group of Engineering students who applied for a grant. In this episode we hear how it all happened, and talk to a few of the people who played a part in seeing the project to successful completion.

Professor Doug Tomlinson pitched the idea of holding an ice beam competition that saw teams experiment with adding different kinds of materials to a 10cm x 10cm x 60com piece of ice and then testing the final product in a load frame.  In this episode we also hear from fifth-year environmental engineering student, Joey Ting.

For this episode, I sat down with the current Engineering Students’ Society President, Dayton Chen and asked him to share a few comments with the class of students who will enter the faculty in September.    

Brittany, a recent Computer Engineering graduate now working in Edmonton, and Jonathan, a current Chemical Engineering student, sat down and talked their way through a few questions from students who might be entering the faculty in the next year or so.    

We are very fortunate to have the Executive VP of Engineering and Projects for the Panama Canal Authority on campus. During this public session, Ilya Espino de Marotta will talk about her work on the Panama Canal, including overseeing the expansion project, as well as her ongoing mission to inspire more young people to pursue careers in engineering.
