A new experiment in communication from the Consortium for Evolutionary Studies at California State University, Fresno: our own podcast! No promises yet in terms of how regular it’ll be, but we hope, to begin with, to at least share some of the talks in our lecture series this way.

Dr. Russell Doolittle, of the University of California, San Diego, spoke in our Evolutionary Biology Lecture Series on January 29, 2010. Alongside the audio podcast above is a Quicktime file that includes all of Dr. Doolittle’s slides. The first voice on the audio (unfortunately a bit left-truncated) is that of Heather Upton, the President of Tri Beta Biological Honor Society, who brought Dr. Doolittle to our campus, introducing him to the audience. The slides can be advanced manually: click on the image to move to the next one (you may also be able to use the slider to move back and forth through the slides as you listen to the talk). Ctrl-click on the slide to download the entire slideshow. Or you can download the pdf version.Note from Madhu: This is the first time I have created this kind of a slidecast, so please let me know how it works for you.

Welcome to the inaugural podcast from Darwin’s Bulldogs, a slide-cast disguised as a vodcast, really, of Dr. Eugenie Scott’s recent lecture on the campus of Fresno State, which attracted a standing-room-only crowd in our largest auditorium. Dr. Scott introduces us to evolutionary biology explaining the basic principles, takes us through a tour of a continuum of creationist beliefs, and gives us an overview of the culture wars surrounding the teaching of evolution in science classrooms in America.
