When the remnants of an offering's blood are brought outside of the Temple - that's a liability for violating offering outside of the Temple. This aspect of the blood is considered essential to the offering - with many subsequent implications (and subject to dispute). Also, a new mishnah - on melikah of the birdsa and also slaughtering - when the action taken outside the Temple is problematic and when it is not. Also, the Gemara shifts focus from preparation of the offering to the liability for it, when offered outside of the Temple. Plus, another mishnah: On collecting the blood of a sin-offering - what happens when the blood is in one cup and then brought to an altar outside of the courtyard, or inside - that's liable.

Christmas is not soft. It is not sentimental. It is a declaration of war.In this homily from Fr. Dom, he confronts the manger and exposes what most men have been taught to ignore. The Incarnation is not a cozy scene meant for nostalgia. It is God entering enemy territory. It is Christ coming to do battle for your soul.Too many men walk past the manger without stopping. We have seen it too many times. We have grown numb. But the Church places the manger front and center for a reason. If you truly see it, it should cut you to the heart and force a response. In this episode, Fr. Dom shares a true story from his first Christmas as a priest. A blind woman approaches the manger, searching not with her eyes, but with her hands. When she finds the Infant Jesus, she understands what many men miss entirely: those tiny hands and feet were born to be pierced. Born for sacrifice. Born for war. That moment exposes a hard truth. Faith is not passive. Seeing Christ demands action. We walk straight from the wood of the manger to the wood of the Cross, and then to the altar. The same Christ who lay in the hay now gives you His Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity in the Eucharist. That reality changes everything, or it should. This episode forces a question that every Catholic man must answer honestly:Has Christmas actually changed you?If the Incarnation does not move you to conversion, you are missing the point. If the manger does not stir you to fight sin, lead your family, and reject the lies of the world, then you are standing still while darkness advances.Jesus did not come to make you comfortable. He came to claim you. He came to fill you with courage, peace, and resolve. And then He sends you back into the world carrying His light.Christmas is merry because Christ has already entered the fight and won. But you still have a role to play. This episode is not meant to be admired. It is meant to be lived.Push play. Let the manger break your heart. Then take Christ into battle.Referenced in This EpisodeThe Nativity and the mangerThe CrossThe EucharistThe Holy FamilyThe Holy Sacrifice of the MassPowerful Quotes from the Episode“Blessed are these little hands and feet that will be pierced for our transgressions.”“She was blind, but she could see. I could see, but I was the blind one.”“That infant in the manger may look weak, but that is a warrior.”Key Takeaway for MenStop treating Christmas like a memory and start treating it like a mission. Kneel before the manger or the Eucharist today and give Christ permission to change you. Then lead. Fight sin. Bring light into your home. If Christmas does not lead to conversion, it has been wasted.

In this week's episode we've pulled a vault recording from 2025! Blood editor Dr. Laurie Sehn interviews authors Drs. David-Alexandre Trégouët and Johannes Schetelig on their research published in volume 146 issue 19 of Blood journal. Dr. Trégouët's study conducted a genome-wide association study supplemented by transcriptome and Mendelian randomization analyses to identify 28 loci and proteins associated with VTE recurrence risk. This work provides genomic evidence that inherited variants contribute to the risk of VTE recurrence, raising the possibility of a more personalized approach to the prevention of recurrent VTE. The study conducted by Dr. Schetelig and colleagues report the results of a long term trial on patients with poor-response AML, comparing outcomes between patients who received salvage chemotherapy versus immediate transplantation. With no difference in survival rates at 5 years, outcomes seem to be determined mainly by genetic risk factors, age, and comorbidities, therefore challenging the routine use of intensive remission induction before allogeneic transplant in patients with an available donor and underscore the need for novel therapeutic strategies for poor-risk AML.Featured Articles:Molecular Determinants of Thrombosis Recurrence Risk Across Venous Thromboembolism Subtypes Disease risk but not remission status determines transplant outcomes in AML: long-term outcomes of the ASAP trial

In this episode of the Health Fix Podcast, Dr. Jannine Krause breaks down why inflammation starts in the brain, how it drives fatigue, brain fog, cravings, hormone imbalance, and accelerated aging — and why 2026 is the year to stop suppressing symptoms and start correcting root causes. Inflammation isn't just a body problem. It's a brain health issue first. Your brain uses 20% of your daily calories, and when inflammation is present, it shifts into defensive mode, not performance mode. That's when clarity disappears, energy crashes, and nothing feels like it's working anymore.

Hey Friend, As we head into a new year, I wanted to pause and share something important with you. In this short episode, I'm pulling back the curtain on what's coming next for the Functional Medicine for Christian Women podcast—and why 2026 will be the most intentional, focused, and supportive year yet. January will look a little different around here. Instead of brand-new weekly episodes, I'll be re-airing the five most impactful episodes from the podcast—episodes that listeners consistently tell me helped them finally understand what was going on in their bodies. Along with each re-aired episode, I'll also be sharing exciting updates about what's coming in the year ahead. In this episode, I share: Why January will be a reset and re-air month How the podcast is shifting in 2026 (and why) The five core pillars we'll be focusing on moving forward What you can expect in terms of education, tools, and conversations Why this is the most planned and prayerfully considered season of the podcast yet In 2026, the podcast will be centered around the topics I'm asked about most in client appointments and conversations, including: Blood sugar and metabolic stability Gut health, digestion, and inflammation Stress, cortisol, and nervous system safety Hormones and thyroid as downstream systems Faith, stewardship, and sustainable health We'll also be bringing in thoughtful guests and strategic partners to help you feel informed and confident as you navigate topics like blood sugar balance, hormone health, gut health, GLP-1 medications, and glucose monitors—always through a calm, Biblical, and functional medicine lens. If you've been craving clarity, simplicity, and a more sustainable approach to your health, you're in the right place. Thank you for being here, for listening, and for trusting me to walk alongside you in this season. January is a reset—and what's coming next is something I can't wait to share. Stay tuned. In grace + health, Lacy Lain Before you go…

Real Life This week's episode starts where a lot of us have been living lately: sick, tired, and mainlining comfort food. Steven is still sick for Christmas and counting, while Ben also got hit, which pushed Christmas celebrations down the calendar a bit. The upside? More chili. More Fritos. No regrets. Holiday illness also turned into a surprisingly serious soda tasting panel. Steven gives a strong thumbs-up to Sunset Sarsaparilla, while Nuka Cola Quantum lands squarely in the "fine, I guess" category. Ben, meanwhile, makes a passionate case for Canada Dry Fruit Splash Cherry Ginger Ale, which he insists is gooooood. On the gaming front, Ben waves the bargain flag for Bang Bang Racing, currently just a dollar on Steam until January 5. It's tiny (about 200MB), has excellent controls, and punches way above its weight. She may not look like much, but she's got it where it counts, kid. You can check the deal details here: https://isthereanydeal.com/game/bang-bang-racing/info/  Steven also dives deeper into Fallout Season 2, Episode 2, which naturally turns into more Fallout lore and nonsense. Possibly too much. Definitely too much. But that's the price of admission. Future or Now Ben brings some sobering science to the table this week. After the January 2025 LA wildfires, hospitals recorded a sharp rise in emergency visits for heart attacks, lung illness, and general sickness over the following three months. Researchers believe fine particles from wildfire smoke, combined with stress, played a major role. Blood tests even showed unusual changes that suggest health impacts lingered long after the fires were out. You can read more about the research here: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2025/12/251220104619.htm  Steven talks about Plur1bus on Apple TV+, created by Vince Gilligan of Breaking Bad fame (and former X-Files writer). Ben keeps himself updated through Boars, Gore, and Swords: http://boarsgoreandswords.com/  Steven, meanwhile, supplements his viewing with YouTube deep dives on color theory and visual storytelling. The consensus? An amazing show — but be warned, we eventually wander into spoiler territory. Go watch it first, then come back. Ben also shares a very cool Google Earth exploration centered on Albuquerque. If you want to follow along, here's the link: https://earth.google.com/web/search/Albuquerque/@35.16557795,-106.74593037,1672.53654999a,233.96919711d,35y,0h,0t,0r/data=Cj4iJgokCUSJAsPilUFAEUCfJ-B8lEFAGTzU80gBr1rAIWpgL9d9sFrAKhAIARIKMjAyNC0wOC0zMBgBQgIIAToDCgEwQgIIAEoNCP___________wEQAA?authuser=0  Book Club No book club this week — we're waiting on Devon, who seemed very excited, which somehow makes the waiting worse. Next week's story is "The Janitor in Space" by Amber Sparks, available through American Short Fiction: https://americanshortfiction.org/janitor-space/  Special Note We're taking a week off. For shame. But we'll be back on January 11th, refreshed, rehydrated, and hopefully no longer coughing into our microphones.

Many women describe a pattern they are never able to explain. They eat well, exercise consistently, and follow every recommendation they are given. Yet their weight fluctuates, their mood shifts unpredictably, and their focus disappears for weeks at a time. Anxiety creeps in. Depression settles quietly. Brain fog becomes normal. And eventually, shame takes over. This is not a motivation problem. This is not a discipline issue. And it is not “all in your head.”In this hol+ conversation, Dr. Taz sits down with reproductive psychiatrist Dr. Sarah Oreck to reveal why PCOS is not just a hormonal or reproductive condition, but a whole-body mental health story that has been overlooked for decades.Instead of viewing PCOS through isolated symptoms like irregular cycles, acne, or fertility struggles, Dr. Oreck explains how insulin resistance, inflammation, cortisol dysregulation, and androgen shifts directly affect brain chemistry, cognition, emotional regulation, and stress tolerance. She breaks down why women with PCOS experience significantly higher rates of anxiety, depression, brain fog, and eating disorders, even when routine labs appear normal. This episode explores how blood sugar instability alters neurotransmitter production, why inflammation may be a core driver of mood disorders, and how chronic stress and cortisol overload reshape the nervous system over time. Dr. Taz and Dr. Oreck also examine the role of medical gaslighting, delayed diagnosis, and the psychological toll of being told symptoms are imagined, exaggerated, or self-inflicted.From adolescence through fertility journeys, pregnancy, postpartum, and perimenopause, this conversation reframes PCOS as a condition that affects the brain, gut, metabolism, and nervous system together, not in isolation. It highlights why symptom masking often fails, why talk therapy alone is not enough during hormonal dysregulation, and why true healing requires integrated, compassionate care. You will learn why weight swings are not about willpower, why mood changes often track with insulin and cortisol rather than character, how gut health and microbiome shifts influence cognition, and what it means to become hormone-literate early, for yourself and for your children.Together, Dr. Taz and Dr. Oreck offer a clear, validating roadmap for anyone who has felt dismissed, confused, or trapped in a body that will not respond the way it is supposed to.Dr. Taz and Dr. Sarah Oreck discuss: • Why PCOS has a major mental health component that is rarely addressed • How insulin resistance and blood sugar swings impact mood and cognition • The link between inflammation and anxiety, depression, and brain fog • Why cortisol and chronic stress intensify PCOS symptoms • How medical gaslighting delays diagnosis and fuels shame • Why fertility journeys often uncover long-missed PCOS patterns • The connection between PCOS and eating disorders like bulimia • How gut health and microbiome shifts affect brain function • Why birth control can help some women and worsen symptoms for others • The importance of hormone literacy across the lifespan • How to advocate for yourself when symptoms are dismissed • Why healing requires integrated care, not isolated fixesAbout Dr. Sarah Oreck Dr. Sarah Oreck is a reproductive psychiatrist and the founder of Mavida Health. She specializes in the intersection of female reproductive hormones and mental health, with a focus on conditions like PCOS, fertility-related mood disorders, pregnancy, and postpartum mental health. Through clinical care, education, and community building, she works to close the gap between psychiatry, endocrinology, and whole-person medicine.Stay Connected:Connect further to Hol+ at https://holplus.co/- Don't forget to like, subscribe, and hit the notification bell to stay updated on future episodes of hol+.Follow Dr. Sarah OreckInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/sarahoreckmdWebsite: https://www.sarahoreckmd.com/ & https://mavidahealth.com/ Follow Dr. Taz on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/drtazmd/https://www.instagram.com/liveholplus/Subscribe to the audio podcast: https://holplus.transistor.fm/subscribeSubscribe to the video podcast: https://www.youtube.com/@DrTazMD/podcastsGet your copy of The Hormone Shift: Balance Your Body and Thrive Through Midlife and MenopauseHost & Production TeamHost: Dr. Taz; Produced by ClipGrowth.com (Producer: Pat Gostek) (00:00) - Doing everything right but nothing changes (00:18) - Shame and medical gaslighting (00:37) - PCOS as a mental health story (01:16) - Inflammation and brain chemistry (02:00) - Focus, memory, emotions, and PCOS (04:21) - Origin story: hormones and gaslighting (06:11) - Why PCOS is missed (07:52) - PCOS and depression/anxiety rates (09:22) - Why fertility journeys reveal PCOS (11:30) - Labs and patterns clinicians ignore (12:59) - Diagnosis criteria explained (14:57) - Blood sugar swings and mood (15:56) - Insulin resistance and cognition (18:18) - Cortisol, stress, and PCOS (20:51) - Pregnancy exposure and cortisol (27:11) - Why we need screening tools (30:49) - Supplements that may help (32:15) - Microbiome and brain fog (44:31) - Rehearsing your story with doctors (46:10) - PCOS and bulimia connection (49:42) - Become hormone literate early

The Secret Sauce for Shedding Pounds isn't just about diet or workouts—it's your liver. In this episode, Nurse Doza breaks down how your liver impacts fat loss through detox, blood sugar regulation, hormone balance, inflammation reduction, and mindset. If you're stuck in your weight loss journey, your liver may be the key. 5 KEY TAKEAWAYS The liver produces antioxidants like glutathione that directly reduce inflammation and support fat metabolism. Hormone balance—especially estrogen and cortisol regulation—depends on liver health. Blood sugar regulation starts with the liver, which stores and processes glucose after meals. Fat cells become inflamed without proper liver function, leading to leptin resistance and weight gain. Sustainable fat loss requires mindset shifts—and liver support helps you regain control. Today is day 363 and we are studying the Section on Justification and Sanctification: Living in Forgiveness and Healing. 365. How does the Church assist in your sanctification? The Church's joyful worship, faithful teaching, grace-filled sacraments, Gospel-shaped calendar, compassionate ministry, loving discipline, and caring fellowship all assist my growth in Christ and are channels of God's abundant care for my soul. (Ephesians 4:1–16; Philippians 3:12–21) 366. How does the Lord's Supper assist in your sanctification? In the Lord's Supper or Holy Eucharist, I hear the Law read, receive God's good news of forgiveness, recall my baptismal promises, have my faith renewed, and receive the grace of the Body and Blood of Christ to continue following him in love and obedience. (John 6:53–58; 1 Corinthians 10:15–16) Our prayers today are Proper 15 found on page 619 and The Collect for Purity on page 106 of the Book of Common Prayer (2019). Original air date: August 28, 2025 This week, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker delivered an extraordinary takedown of President Trump over his deployment of the military in U.S. cities. Trump then exploded about Pritzker's impudence, calling the governor names and instructing him to bow down and beg for his “HELP” in fighting crime. Trump has threatened twice to occupy Chicago no matter what the city's residents and their elected representatives think about it, another window into his seething anger. In this standoff, Pritzker did something unusual: He communicated with his constituents from the heart, vowing to use all his power to protect them from Trump's authoritarian takeover. Rather than let Trump pretend he cares about crime, Pritzker cast Trump as the primary threat to his state's people. We talked to Brian Beutler, who has a great new piece on his substack, Off Message, taking stock of Pritzker's response. We discuss how Pritzker is shrewdly reading the moment in a way many Democrats are not, why Trump is vulnerable on crime, and what the punditry is getting so wrong about all of it.  Learn more about your ad choices.
