With Casefile on a short break, we thought this would be a great time to shine a light on some of the shows that may have flown under the radar for many of you. These are shows we've put our hearts into and are really proud of. Today, we're sharing another one of those shows — Searching for Sarah MacDiarmid. On 11 July 1990, 23-year-old Sarah MacDiarmid went missing from the Kananook railway station. Blood found beside her car suggested a violent attack — but Sarah was gone, and her body has never been found.Across nine episodes, the series follows Sarah's last known movements, investigates the witness accounts and leads, revisits the searches, and examines the possible connection to serial killer Paul Denyer.Decades on, Sarah's family still believe someone knows the truth — and hopes this series will reach the person holding that missing piece. We're releasing the first episode here on the Casefile feed. You can find the full nine-part series by looking up Searching for Sarah MacDiarmid, wherever you get your podcasts.I hope you enjoy the series. Hosted on Acast. Original air date: August 28, 2025 This week, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker delivered an extraordinary takedown of President Trump over his deployment of the military in U.S. cities. Trump then exploded about Pritzker's impudence, calling the governor names and instructing him to bow down and beg for his “HELP” in fighting crime. Trump has threatened twice to occupy Chicago no matter what the city's residents and their elected representatives think about it, another window into his seething anger. In this standoff, Pritzker did something unusual: He communicated with his constituents from the heart, vowing to use all his power to protect them from Trump's authoritarian takeover. Rather than let Trump pretend he cares about crime, Pritzker cast Trump as the primary threat to his state's people. We talked to Brian Beutler, who has a great new piece on his substack, Off Message, taking stock of Pritzker's response. We discuss how Pritzker is shrewdly reading the moment in a way many Democrats are not, why Trump is vulnerable on crime, and what the punditry is getting so wrong about all of it.  Learn more about your ad choices. "We always were having conversations about, if we can't solve it, what then? What is this about? Why isn't it solved? And what is our job? Is the job of a journalist to solve crimes? No, it's to document. So what are we documenting? We're documenting what had to happen for there to be no answer in a situation where there should be an answer," says Leah Sottile, reporter, writer, Hush."Sometimes making yourself uncomfortable is the way to find new creativity, or to challenge yourself to find a smart idea within that," says Ryan Haas, reporter, producer.Today we've got a fun one with CNF Pod regular Leah Sottile, investigative journalist, podcaster, author of Blazing Eye Sees All and When the Moon Turns to Blood. And we also have her long-time collaborative partner Ryan Haas. They are primarily here to talk about season 2 of Hush, an incredible series put out by Oregon Public Broadcasting that chronicles how a small town has, to date, failed to bring closure on the death of 18-year-old Sarah Zuber in 2019. The red herring of it all is that it starts like a classic true crime show, but it quickly becomes an interrogation of the true crime genre. One of Leah's great lines is that this isn't true crime so much as it is bureaucratic horror in the rural town of Rainier, Oregon.I love getting a chance to chat with Leah, and this was special to hear from Ryan Haas, too, who up until recently spent more than a dozen years at OPB. She and Leah worked on the epic Bundyville Podcast together and two seasons of Hush. I'm gonna miss Hush because I would run five miles listening to primarily Leah, though Ryan pops in every now and again, narrate this incredible story about what happens when journalism folds up shop in a small town, when the greek choir of Facebook is the primary news source, when power-hungry people leverage a tragedy for personal gain, when law enforcement becomes lax.In this episode, they talk about: The Grid of Doom The evolution of their partnership How they push each other Interrogating the true crime genre White board conversations Being open to where the reporting goes Being open to complication Finding the cliff hangers And breaking news! He wrote more than ten books under the solitary pen name Neville, and was a popular speaker on metaphysical themes from the late 1930s until his death in 1972.Possessed of a self-educated and uncommonly sharp intellect, Neville espoused a spiritual vision that was bold and total: Everything you see and experience, including other people, is the result of your own thoughts and emotional states. We sit down with legendary artist Geof Darrow to discuss the new Dark Horse collection, The Shaolin Cowboy: Beginning of the End Results--21 Years of Blood, Sweat, and Chainsaws HC, celebrating over two decades of his hyper-detailed, Eisner Award-winning series about an unnamed former Shaolin monk wandering with his talking mule. Geof shares how the series was inspired by Kung Fu, Kurosawa's Yojimbo, and Zatoichi, his collaboration with Frank Miller who advised against putting "cowboy" in the title (which he ignored), his Matrix storyboard work with the Wachowskis who wrote the opening dialogue for the original Burlyman run, and his approach to creating densely detailed pages filled with absurd violence like battling a giant shark using two chainsaws tied to a stick. We get into his "I thought it would be funny" creative philosophy and celebrate what 21 years of this gonzo series means in one definitive collection.Support the show___________________Check out video versions of this and other episodes on YouTube: youtube.com/dollarbinbandits!If you like this podcast, please rate, review, and subscribe on Apple Podcasts or wherever you found this episode. Welcome to Paranormal Spectrum, where we illuminate the enigmatic corners of the supernatural world. I'm your host, Barnaby Jones, and today we have a very special guest joining us:Rooted in a deep, lifelong connection to the spiritual world, Ellie Weisensel initially pursued a path in science, earning two degrees and dedicating over three decades to the food industry and a science-based government agency. However, during the latter years of her scientific career, a more insistent spiritual calling began, gently guiding her toward blending her analytical mind with the world of energy healing. This unexpected transition led her to become a Reiki Master and Certified Psychic Medium, specializing in the complex work of entity release—a role Spirit revealed was part of her soul agreement. Further expanding their expertise, Ellie integrated The Emotion Code and The Body Code into her practice, and following a spiritual nudge to look deeper into client bloodwork, she learned to read functional blood chemistry, allowing her to connect emotional, energetic, and physiological imbalances in a profound way, all while maintaining her lifelong residency within a small radius of their Wisconsin birthplace.Ellie's Websitehttps://www.ellieweisensel.com/Click that play button, and let's unravel the mysteries of the UNTOLD! RaeAnn Tucker joined Wake Up Tri-Counties to talk about Christmas closure, radon test kits, the blood panel special, employee years of service recognition, the "Adopt-A-Family" with Central School, and travel safety tips for holiday travel. The Henry and Stark County Health Departments have announced that their offices and First Choice Healthcare Clinics in Kewanee, Colona, and Toulon will be closed December 24th through 26th in observance of Christmas. Essential in-home care services will still be available for those in need. For healthcare assistance or information, community members are encouraged to call their local clinics or visit henrystarkhealth.com. The departments are also urging residents to take precautions against respiratory illnesses as cases rise and reminding everyone that updated COVID-19 and flu vaccinations are available by walk-in or appointment at Kewanee and Toulon locations. As holiday travel surges, health officials in Henry and Stark counties urge drivers to prepare for smooth journeys. They recommend checking your vehicle's condition, planning routes to avoid congestion, and keeping roadside assistance contacts handy. Secure valuables and monitor children closely at rest stops. Meanwhile, the Environmental Health Division is spotlighting an invisible risk: radon gas. Home testing kits are available for $15, with high levels detected locally and health risks even for non-smokers. Finally, a special health screening at local clinics continues through January 1, 2026. Bring non-perishable food and $40 cash for a thyroid and cholesterol panel while supporting food pantries.

Last day of work this week as we'll be off on Thursday & Friday for Christmas. Doc joined me in the studio this morning which means we got a racing report thanks to County Materials in Holmen! Also let you know what's on TV today/tonight and what's new on the big screen tomorrow! In the news this morning, the latest on tonight's $1.7 billion Powerball drawing, Morgan Geyser is going back to a mental institution, an update on the Brown University shooting, and a judge dismisses the charges against Matthew Sierra. In sports, the Bucks got a much-needed win over the Pacers last night, a look at the Week 17 NFL schedule, tomorrow's NBA Christmas day action, a rundown of yesterday's Bowl games, and an update on Jordan Love's condition! Another day, another dog trapped in frozen waters getting rescued by emergency responders! Elsewhere in sports, DK Metcalf's suspension is upheld, the Chiefs are getting a new stadium, and Lindsey Vonn qualifies for the Winter Olympics! Talked about a couple of holiday-themed surveys this morning: Do you save wrapping paper? Nearly 1/3rd of Americans do save it & reuse it. Is a "donation in your name" a good or bad gift? Apparently, most people think it's a good gift. Not me! And in today's edition of "Bad News with Happy Music", we had stories about a guy who got busted for performing surgery while intoxicated, a #FloridaMan who exposed himself in a Hobby Lobby, a kid in Russia who got really sick by drinking his own blood, and a woman in Ohio who sexually assaulted a six year-old.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A four-year-old's question—“Why does Santa look different?”—opens a bigger one: why does Jesus look different in every painting, and how do we recognize Him today? Joe Rockey and Father Boniface Hicks explore how sacred art (especially icons) shows inner, spiritual reality more than photo-realism—and how Jesus is truly present in the Eucharist even when our eyes see only bread. As Christmas Masses fill with newcomers, we talk about hospitality, cooperation with grace, and moving from the visible to the invisible: from faces and symbols to the Person who loves us. Always through the three lenses: honesty with self, charity with others, under a living relationship with God.Key IdeasDifferent “looks,” same identity: saints (and St. Nicholas) are shown with signs of their vocation; Jesus is recognized by what's essential—wounds, mercy, and divinity—not a fixed facial template.Icons aim beyond photography: light “from within” depicts the glorified person; art can reveal deeper truth than surface detail.Real Presence, hidden form: in the Eucharist our senses see bread; faith meets the living Christ—Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity.Childlike faith teaches adults: wonder and simple trust help us notice God's voice in conscience and daily life.Christmas hospitality: welcome irregular Mass-goers with warmth and witness; our charity can draw people back to the Church.Links & ReferencesNational Shrine of Our Lady of Champion (approved Marian apparition to Adele Brise, Champion, WI): https://championshrine.orgCTAIf this helped, please leave a review or share this episode with a friend.Questions or thoughts? In this episode, I break down why you can feel exhausted all day but suddenly wired the moment you try to sleep. We talk about how cortisol, melatonin, blood sugar, and perimenopause all play a role, and what you can actually do to get real rest. What we cover: 1. Cortisol and melatonin basics Your circadian rhythm depends on high cortisol in the morning and low cortisol at night. If cortisol spikes in the evening, you will feel "tired but wired." Taking melatonin will not help if melatonin is normal and cortisol is the real problem. 2. How DUTCH testing reveals the root cause A DUTCH hormone test shows: Your full cortisol pattern throughout the day Melatonin output Blood sugar, nutrient, and inflammation markers Estrogen and progesterone levels that may affect sleep This is why DUTCH is so helpful for women who have tried every sleep aid with no results. One client had perfect melatonin but high nighttime cortisol. Once we targeted that, her sleep finally improved. 3. Simple tools to try tonight Protein before bed: At least 20 grams to stabilize blood sugar and quiet cortisol. Nighttime routine: Lower lights, cooler bedroom, weighted blanket, deep breathing, red light, warm bath. Journaling: Empty your brain before bed so you are not carrying mental clutter into sleep. 4. Perimenopause and sleep changes Falling progesterone can make it harder to relax or stay asleep. Supporting progesterone naturally and adding magnesium or B vitamins at night can help. 5. Herbal and nutritional support Adrenal tincture to support cortisol regulation Sleep tincture to calm the nervous system Magnesium in the evening to relax muscles and reduce tension Consistency matters. Sleep often improves gradually over three or more weeks. Why a DUTCH test is your next step  If you are done guessing, DUTCH testing shows exactly: Whether cortisol, melatonin, blood sugar, or inflammation is keeping you awake What your hormones are doing at night Which specific areas to target This saves time, money, and frustration so you can finally sleep again. You can order a DUTCH test here and get a personalized review and plan: https://drbethwestie.com/dutch-hormone-testing/ Better sleep starts with understanding what your hormones are doing behind the scenes.

ACOFAE Podcast Presents: House of Earth and Blood- Revisited! "Let's do something with this potential!" Happy Fifth Birthday, ACOFAE! FIVE YEARS! Can you believe it!? Laura Marie and Jessica Marie thought there was no better way to celebrate this anniversary than by reexamining the book that started the pod -- literally. House of Earth and Blood is a force. She's thick, she's complicated, and she's one of the loves of ACOFAE's lives. A story that is many things, but in this book the story is about friendship. Danika and Bryce. There's so much so say. Laura Marie hasn't touched this book since 2020 and is surprised at what a reread brings out and Jessica Marie has opinions. Rounding out the convo is a discussion about fan fiction and fan theories and how those can help or hinder the canon plots, and how fan fiction will always be there for us when we need it. Light it up. TW / CW: None to our awareness For additional TW/CW information for your future reads, head to this site for more: https://triggerwarningdatabase.com/ Spoilers: The worlds Sarah J. It all comes down to this. Harold Godwinson, Harald Sigurdson, and William the Bastard are preparing their armies, for a tri-cornered showdown for the English throne. But what really happened in 1066? In this episode, Olivia and Aran will piece together Norman histories, Icelandic sagas, English chronicles, and one big tapestry, to assemble the events that would change England - and Europe - forever.
