Alec Hackney spent nearly a decade in and out of Colorado prisons after first being locked up at just 17 years old for attempted murder. A Blood gang member for over 20 years, Alec survived being stabbed in the head, shot on the streets, and caught in the chaos of drugs, violence, and survival behind bars. After serving a 10-year sentence for drug conspiracy and getting clean 7 years ago, he decided to change his life completely. Since his release in 2023, Alec has opened a sober living home, a behavioral health and recovery coaching business, and a personal investment firm, using his story to help others find a way out of the same life he escaped. Alec shares what it was really like being a Blood inside Colorado prisons, the harsh reality of gang life, and how he turned years of pain into a purpose-driven mission to rebuild his life. #LockedInWithIanBick #ColoradoPrisons #BloodGang #PrisonStories #TrueCrime #GangLife #RedemptionStory #realstories Thank you to EXPRESSVPN & PRIZEPICKS for sponsoring this episode: ExpressVPN: Secure your online data TODAY by visiting https://www.expressvpn.com/lockedin to find out how you can get up to four extra months.

That night, Christi and her husband, Mark, took their two young children out for dinner and photos with Santa. Afterward, they brought the kids home then went to the bar where Christi worked. It was the last time anyone ever saw her. The next morning, Christi was gone, but her car and all of her belongings were still at home. Blood was later found inside the house and in Mark's car, yet he insisted she left on her own. More than three decades have passed, and Christi has never been found. Perhaps most famous as the home of the druids, Ynys Môn, also known as Anglesey, occupies 275 square miles just off the north Wales coast. It is an ancient place. Archaeologists found Neolithic settlements at Llanfaethlu, making these some of the oldest villages in Wales. The Neolithic Castell Bryn Gwyn site remained in use until the Roman period. Bryn Celli Ddu is one of the most famous Bronze Age burial mounds. This passage tomb is around 5000 years old, and aligns with the sunrise on the summer solstice. Its name means 'the Mound in the Dark Grove', and it was first excavated in 1865. With so much history everywhere you turn, finding folklore and legend is to be expected. “The life of a creature is in the blood. . . .” — Leviticus 17:11 We have about 30 trillion blood cells moving through about 60,000 miles of blood vessels in our bodies. And if we lose more than 40 percent of our blood, our life will be at serious risk. The words of Leviticus 17:11 are true: “The life of a creature is in the blood.”Many of our readings in Leviticus this month have mentioned something about blood. Leviticus 17 explains why. First, blood is treated with respect because it represents life, and life is a gift from God. Our culture may emphasize that we should do as we please in life. But because life is God's gift to us, God is the rightful authority over our lives. For this reason Israel was called to safeguard the well-being of God's creatures. We must value and protect all life against needless harm and death. The shedding of blood also symbolized how one life was given in exchange for another. Blood was God's gift for making atonement, showing that sin was serious and would lead to being cut off from God and his people. On the night of his arrest, Jesus explained how his blood would be poured out, and his life given, for us (Luke 22:20). Though we are guilty, Jesus was cut off from his Father and his people so that we could be restored to the joy of God's presence. God not only requires a sacrifice as payment for our sin, but he also provides it through Jesus! Lord Jesus, your blood was poured out so that we can have full, eternal life! Though we cannot repay you for this gift, help us to live in thankfulness to you. Amen.

Last month, a tragic incident took place in Jharkhand. Five children with thalassemia, an inherited blood disorder contracted HIV, following a blood transfusion. Initial investigations revealed that the blood they were given, was contaminated. While the Jharkhand government swung into action, suspending officials and announcing compensations – the fact remains that the blood that the children were given from a blood bank was unsafe. Blood is a critical compound – it is used across thousands of hospitals every day and there are regulations in place with regard to testing protocols to ensure that infected blood is not given to any patient. So where did the lapses occur? What kind of testing mechanisms do we have in place and are they sufficient? What is the ‘window period' when it comes to infections and how can this be shortened? And how do we ensure safe blood for every patient in need? For decades, most medical and biological research has been conducted primarily on male volunteers and male animals in laboratory studies. One of the main reasons was convenience - male hormone levels are more stable, whereas female hormones shift across the menstrual cycle, introducing variability that researchers historically preferred to avoid. But that convenience has come at a cost. When treatments are developed and tested mainly in males, the results don't always translate well to female physiology. This means that women have often been prescribed medications or therapies that were never fully tested on their biology. In some cases, women have experienced more side effects, reduced effectiveness, or entirely different outcomes than men. As we learn more, it's becoming clear that male and female bodies age differently too. And new anti-ageing treatments may need to take these differences into account. A new study published in the journal Ageing shows exactly why. The researchers discovered a combination of two drugs that extended lifespan in frail, elderly male mice by an impressive 73 percent from the start of treatment while also improving their mobility, endurance and memory. However, the same therapy did not provide the same benefits to female mice. They tested oxytocin, which is known to support tissue repair, along with another drug known as OT+A5i, which blocks a key pathway involved in regulating cell growth, differentiation, and death. The study involved 25-month-old mice which is roughly equivalent to a 75-year-old human. In male mice: Lifespan increased by 73 percent from the start of treatment. Median lifespan increased by 14 percent. Risk of death at any time decreased three-fold. Endurance, grip strength, and agility improved. Short-term memory improved. Blood biomarkers shifted toward younger, healthier levels. But in female mice: No significant extension of lifespan. No consistent improvements in strength or memory. Blood biomarkers did not shift in the same way. Researchers suggest several possibilities for the difference: Female inflammatory signalling pathways differ from males Hormonal environments change ageing differently in men and women The interaction between oxytocin and TGF-beta networks may not play the same role in female tissues This highlights the point that ageing is not identical in men and women, and treatments to slow ageing may need to be tailored accordingly. After taking last week off, Mr. OTM returns and joins Tucky to discuss this week's Monday Night Raw and AEW Dynamite, Blood and Guts. John Cena won the intercontinental championship, we have new women's tag champs, and Blood & Guts was insane. Give us a follow on all socials @PodOnTheMark.

Click here to try it out!Christopher Walken, Larry Fishburne, and Abel Ferrara's moral abyss of a movie. This week, the dads descend into King of New York, the neon-slick crime drama that turns Manhattan into a fever dream of violence, power, and warped justice.Walken plays Frank White, a freshly released drug lord who wants to “give back” — but only by murdering every rival and funding a hospital with blood money. His crew? Mostly Black. His moral compass? Bent beyond repair. His dance moves? Still pure Walken. What we coverCrime and capitalism: Frank's twisted logic — kill the competition, save the city. The Walken mystique: Dead eyes, slick hair, spontaneous robot dances.Larry Fishburne's “Jimmy Jump”: One of the great chaotic sidekicks — all swagger, coke, and AK-47s.Cops vs crooks: Caruso and Snipes as furious detectives who decide to skip due process and go full vigilante.Ferrara's vision: A New York that's nihilistic, sweaty, and corrupt from top to bottom. The politics of power: Race, class, loyalty, and the delusion of doing “good” through evil. The ending: Blood, subways, and one of Walken's best death scenes — calm, eerie, inevitable. Why listen?Because it's peak Bad Dads territory: a film that's stylish, sleazy, and morally bankrupt, yet impossible to look away from. We argue about whether Frank's warped Robin Hood act has any truth to it, trade notes on 1990s cop-movie chaos, and try to work out how this didn't end every actor's career.

Send us a textSPECIAL NOTE: SEASON 15 OF THE GOOD, THE POD AND THE UGLY CELEBRATES THE USE OF THE PRACTICAL AND DIGITAL EFFECT KNOWN AS THE SQUIB. IRL GUN VIOLENCE IS INTOLERABLE AND RENOUNCED BUT... CINEMATIC VIOLENCE WILL BE CELEBRATED IN A WAY THAT WILL DISTURB SOME LISTENERS. TGTPTU books its final perp in the 20-movie-long shooting spree of Season 15 – Squib Games with—dead or alive, you're coming with me—ROBOCOP (1987), a pod favorite. Like last week's film Walker (played by Ed Harris and not Peter Weller), this week's movie concerns a man caught up in the machinery of his time, except Officer Alex Murphy (played by Peter Weller and not Ed Harris) is a character at least moderately sympathetic, despite his chosen profession. Similarly but instead of returning to the past to satire the violence of American imperialism, this week's feature directed by Paul Verhoeven (his first American film) occurs in the Reagan-esque future of the 1990s to satire the violence of American corporatism. And while the commonalities between this season's final pairing continue, the word count for these show notes is limited. Jack is out this week. Filling his guest host spot is pod regular Erik W. Van Der Wolf from the Blood and Popcorn podcast. This ep—while host Ken reveals the origin of his large-frame eyeglasses fetish, host Thomas introduces his replacement for regulating future seasons' discussions, and host Ryan does research and independently comes to the wrong conclusion that RoboCop's action scenes aren't very good—guest Erik weighs in on matters of substance and industry with a slide deck and laser light/hologram show and talking points on how modern filmmaking trends might get in the way of the “lightning in a bottle” confluence of unexpected events that creates an amazing film like Verhoeven's RoboCop and likely prevents another good RoboCop today, a problem not just of franchises but of the modern movie condition of IP and rebootquels. The 3D animation between slides is remarkable; the interactive hologram of Erik as a helmetless RoboCop, Ken as Cain, Ryan as the jetpack, and Thomas as the toxic sludge kill are all mind-blowing. Unfortunate that this is an audio medium. And there are licensing issues. And lawyers. A special thanks segment and a limited version of our end-of-season film rankings conclude the episode. Also, Season 16's director is announced. I'd buy that for a dollar! (The revivified, cybernetic remains of SF legend Harlan Ellison approach with hand extended to accept your dollar.) ((Post-postscript: There will be two more eps released this season (and calendar year) as i. sometimes you've got to sing for your dinner and ii. our three unwise men will finally be putting the Christ back into Christmas with 2025's Winter Holidays episode.))
