WELCOME TO THE IRISH & CELTIC MUSIC PODCAST Helping you celebrate Celtic culture through music. I am Marc Gunn. I'm a Celtic musician and host of Pub Songs & Stories, where every song has a story and every episode is a toast to Celtic and folk songwriters. And what a week it has been. This past Sunday, March 8, we wrapped up the very first Irish & Celtic Music PodFest and Arts Market — and it was a fantastic afternoon. Big thanks to Kinnfolk, The Muckers, and May Will Bloom for bringing the music. Huge thanks to The Lost Druid Brewery for hosting us. Thanks to all the incredible vendors who showed up despite the threat of rain — and the eventual downfall of it. And thank you to everyone who braved the weather to celebrate Irish and Celtic music with us. You are all amazing. A very special thank you to Matt for his absolutely brilliant work behind the scenes. This event wouldn't have happened without him. And thank you to Maia for helping out at the table. If you want more Celtic music in Atlanta, there's a great Irish session up in Sandy Springs. I also play around Atlanta throughout the year. And mark your calendars — Irish Fest Atlanta is every November, and Stone Mountain Highland Games every October. Now it is St. Patrick's Day week. This is our second, and final, St. Patrick's Day special. So let's make it count. This podcast is for fans of all kinds of Celtic music. We're here to build a diverse Celtic community and support the incredible artists who so generously share their music with you. If you hear something you love today, email the artist and tell them you heard them here. These are not corporate acts. They are small indie musicians who rely on people like you to keep creating. Please show your generosity. Buy a CD, Album Pin, shirt, digital download, or join their community on Patreon. You can find links to all of today's artists in the shownotes, along with show times, at celticmusicpodcast.com. You can also subscribe and follow the show there, so you never miss an episode. We'd love to have you with us every week. Oh! And if you weren't able to pick up an album pin from The Muckers, Kinfolk and May Will Bloom. Visit their websites so you can buy one. There were still some limited - edition pins available. THANK YOU PATRONS OF THE PODCAST! You show up. Week after week, you show up. And because of that, so does this podcast. Your support carries this show through every season. The quiet weeks and the chaotic ones. The technical headaches and the moments when everything just clicks. You make it possible to keep Celtic music alive and moving in the world. Music and art won't solve everything. But they matter. They connect us. And your generosity keeps that connection going, funding new episodes, the Celtic Music Magazine, the graphics, and our long - suffering engineer who makes me sound like I know what I'm doing. This is the second, and final, St. Patrick's Day special of 2026. It wouldn't have happened without you. None of this would have. In return for your generosity, you get early access to episodes, music - only editions, free MP3s, exclusive stories and interviews, and your voice in the Celtic Top 20, helping crown the best Celtic bands and songs of the year. So from the bottom of my Celtic heart. Thank you. Slàinte! Houston's First Baptist Church Messages (Audio)

The Lord's Supper serves three essential purposes that make it far more than a simple ritual. First, it calls believers to remember Christ's death, keeping the cross central in their minds and hearts. Second, it prompts self-examination, inviting believers to confess sin and recommit to faithful living. Third, it points toward Christ's promised return, bridging the gap between His first coming and His glorious second coming. Only those who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ should participate, as meaningful remembrance requires a personal relationship with Him. This sacred meal demonstrates pure grace - just as the elements are provided freely, Christ provides everything necessary for salvation. The reverence surrounding the Lord's Supper reflects its sacred nature and calls believers to examine their lives, walk in obedience, and eagerly anticipate Christ's return.

The liver is responsible for producing sugar for the small percentage of the body that requires it. If you have high blood sugar despite removing sugar from your diet, it is either caused by a liver problem or a stress problem. Stress increases cortisol, a hormone that stimulates the release of sugar. If you wake up in the morning with high blood sugar and did not consume any sugar the day before, this is known as the dawn phenomenon. This phenomenon is caused by a long-standing liver problem associated with insulin resistance. To fix high blood sugar, do the following:1. Low-carb diet2. Stop snacking 3. The Katherine Massey Book Club @ The C.O.W.S. hosts the 4th study session on Dr. Colin Anthony Beckles' PanAfrican Sites of Resistance: Black Bookstores and The Struggle To Re-Present Black Identity. This 1995 dissertation is the first time in the illustrious 14 year history of The Katherine Massey Book Club that we will read a non-book. Dr. Beckles conducted an extraordinary amount of research and produced several reports documenting the import of black bookstores and the intense Racism targeting them globally. Having just completed Char Adams' Black-Owned: The Revolutionary Life of the Black Bookstore, Gus concluded that text willfully excluded Dr. Frances Cress Welsing and Neely Fuller Jr. to stress anti-sexual behavior and to practice black misandry. Reading Dr. Beckles' - who is briefly mentioned in Adams' work, dissertation is the corrective to Black-Owned. Last week, we learned intense details about how System of White Supremacy is enforced in all areas of people activity in the United Kingdom. Racist Jokes & songs, denial of employment & just wages, direct violence, and Racist labels for black students like: "educationally subnormal (ESN)." Dr. Beckles highlights the "Windrush Generation," black people born in the Caribbean "colonies," who were welcomed to clean up Britain on the cheap after the Nazis left Europe in ruins. We also learned about one of Gus' all-time favorites, Suspected Race Soldier Enoch Powell and the "Rivers of Blood" speech - which was widely featured during the 2011 London Riots. Black British bookstores formed in direct response to the System of White Supremacy. They also borrowed heavily from Victims of Racism in the US. #BlackPowerDesk #ConnorMcGregor INVEST in The COWS – http://paypal.me/TheCOWS Cash App: https://cash.app/$TheCOWS CALL IN NUMBER: 720.716.7300 CODE 564943#

Manuela Ceballos' new book Between Dung and Blood: Purity, Sainthood, and Power in the Early Modern Western Mediterranean (University of California Press, 2025) engages with the life and legacies of two sixteenth-century saints; the Spanish Christian Teresa de Jesús (also known as Teresa of Avila) and the Moroccan Sufi Sidi Ridwan al-Januwi. The book draws from rich Arabic and Spanish sources that moves us between Morocco and Iberia. In the process, we learn that these saints both descent from families of converts and as such blood and bodily pollution operated as material and metaphoric symbols to define their identities. Through this generative comparison, we see how constructions of blood and dung circulate across these varied but entangled temporal geographies to constitute notions of impurity and purity, such as in the case of the deathly hemorrhaging experienced by Teresa. In end though blood is used to set different boundaries around religious or racial identities, and even at times gender norms. As such, the discourses that are utilized for such argumentations are not stable, and so blood and how it is deployed is not the same across the stories of these two saints and their enduring legacies nor does it refract power consistently. This book will be of interest to those who think about embodiment, material culture, the early modern Mediterranean world, and Christian-Muslim mysticism. Manuela Ceballos is Assistant Professor of Religious Studies at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Shobhana Xavier is an Associate Professor of Religious Studies at Queen's University. This week's stories: Smartphone App Catches What Sleep Trackers Miss A 2026 trial found that suvorexant, a popular prescription sleep drug, improves sleep quality scores — but worsens morning alertness and cognitive function while improving afternoon and evening performance. The study used a smartphone app to pulse users throughout the day, revealing a split-time-of-day signal that traditional sleep scales miss entirely. Optimizing your sleep dashboard and optimizing your waking performance are not the same thing. Sources: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/suvorexant-ema-trial-2026 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/suvorexant-daytime-performance Bats Are Breaking the Telomere Model A 2026 bioRxiv preprint on the tropical bat species Molossus molossus found that these animals live unusually long lives with almost no telomere shortening — challenging the assumption that telomere erosion is a universal driver of mammalian aging. Instead, the bats maintain genome integrity through superior DNA repair and oxidative stress management driven by the metabolic demands of flight. Telomere length may be a symptom, not the cause — and the longevity industry has been measuring the wrong thing. Sources: https://www.biorxiv.org/content/molossus-molossus-telomere-longevity-2026 https://www.nature.com/articles/telomere-bat-aging-2026 The Fenugreek Hack That Cuts Glucose Spikes by Up to 20% Soaking fenugreek seeds overnight and consuming them before meals has been shown across multiple small human trials to reduce fasting glucose and post-meal glucose spikes by 5 to 20 percent. The mechanism is dual — soluble galactomannan fibers slow carbohydrate absorption while bioactive compounds improve insulin receptor sensitivity in muscle and liver. It's a cheap, food-grade, CGM-trackable lever that most people have never tried. Sources: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/fenugreek-glucose-clinical-review https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/fenugreek-insulin-sensitivity-trial The First Longevity Supplement to Move Vascular Age Like Exercise A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial out of the University of Surrey found that a multi-ingredient longevity stack targeting NAD metabolism, glycation control, and mitochondrial function improved three independent vascular aging markers simultaneously in healthy adults over 40. Arterial stiffness improved by 1.18 meters per second — equivalent to reversing roughly a decade of age-related decline. Blood pressure dropped 6.1 millimeters of mercury, outperforming aerobic exercise, HIIT, the DASH diet, omega-3s, and magnesium in head-to-head comparisons. CO binds to hemoglobin more tightly than oxygen, quietly starving your brain, heart, and muscles while producing symptoms that mimic fatigue, brain fog, and the flu. The CDC estimates more than 400 Americans die from unintentional CO poisoning every year — and most of them never saw it coming. Sources: https://kffhealthnews.org/morning-briefing/friday-march-6-2026 https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/topics/co/default.html https://www.cbsnews.com/news/carbon-monoxide-exposure-maryland-spike-2026 Fat Plus Carbs Around Training May Actually Be the Metabolic Move A 2026 study found that combining fat with a carbohydrate-rich period during or around exercise improves insulin sensitivity and fat oxidation in the recovery phase — directly challenging the long-held "never stack fat and carbs" rule. The mechanism appears to be a mixed-fuel training effect: the liver and muscle learn to manage glucose and fat concurrently when both are present during high metabolic demand. Context changes the calculus, and the workout itself may be the variable that flips the equation. Sources: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/fat-carb-exercise-metabolism-2026 https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/fat-carbohydrate-insulin-sensitivity-training All source links are provided for direct access to the original reporting and research. This episode is designed for biohackers, longevity seekers, and high-performance listeners who want mechanism-level clarity on circadian biology, neurodegeneration signals, cognitive training, caffeine strategy, and supplement regulation. Since the publication of her first novel, “Love Medicine,” in 1984, Louise Erdrich has written fiction, nonfiction, poetry and children's books. Her work has earned multiple awards, including the National Book Award (“The Round House”) and the Pulitzer Prize (“The Night Watchman”). On this week's episode, Erdrich talks with Gilbert Cruz, the editor of The New York Times Book Review, about her new short story collection, “Python's Kiss.” She reflects on some of the formative experiences that shaped her as a writer, including watching “Planet of the Apes” and growing up in North Dakota, a state that housed hundreds of intercontinental ballistic missiles. She says that writing has been her “only real way of processing” her experiences and that her creative process is full of mystery. “There's really no way to control everything that happens in a piece of art. Some of these stories — I wasn't sure that I had written it,” she said, adding: “And yet, obviously, it was in my handwriting.” Plus, Erdrich recommends the one book that always puts her to sleep. Books discussed on this episode: “Animal Farm,” by George Orwell “Brawler,” by Lauren Groff “Winter in the Blood,” by James Welch “The Pillow Book,” by Sei Shōnagon “The Death of the Heart,” by Elizabeth Bowen “Save Me, Stranger,” by Erika Krouse “The Bluest Eye,” by Toni Morrison “Austerlitz,” by W.G. It's an era of breakthroughs in Alzheimer's research, yet for many clinicians, it's also a time of profound uncertainty. We are currently navigating competing definitions of the disease, multiple new biomarkers coming on market seemingly every week, and the clinical rollout of new amyloid antibodies. How do we translate this rapid-fire science into daily practice? On this week's GeriPal podcast, we sit down with dementia experts Halima Amjad, Barak Gaster, and Heather Whitson. We dive deep into: The evolving definitions of Alzheimer's disease.  Does someone have Alzheimer's disease if you have only an abnormal biomarker as defined by the Alzheimer's Association, or is amyloid pathology necessary but not sufficient to define Alzheimer's as per the International Working Group (IWG) recommendations? Where do blood-based biomarkers for Alzheimer's fit into the diagnostic workup, and should they be used at all in primary care?  FYI - here is my take on that question in a recent JAMA IM article titled "The Limited Role of Alzheimer's Disease Blood-Based Biomarkers in Primary Care." What's the role of amyloid antibodies in the care of individuals with Alzheimer's disease, including who to use them on? Most people have been told fibroids are “just a woman's issue.” A benign growth, a heavy period, and something to tolerate, manage, or eventually remove. That framing is dangerously incomplete. What if fibroids aren't just a local gynecological problem, but an early warning system? What if they're a vascular signal pointing to deeper inflammation, metabolic dysfunction, and cardiovascular risk? We've been trained to silo the body. The uterus belongs to gynecology, the heart belongs to cardiology, and metabolism belongs to endocrinology. Stress is “just stress.”But the body doesn't live in departments.Inflammation doesn't check which organ it's allowed to affect. Blood vessels don't confine themselves to one specialty. And hormones certainly don't stay politely inside one system. So when a woman presents with heavy bleeding, pelvic pressure, anemia, exhaustion, and mood changes, maybe the question isn't just, “How do we remove the fibroid?” Maybe the better question is, “What environment allowed this to grow?”Because fibroids are estrogen-responsive, blood-supply dependent, and influenced by metabolic signals. And when we start looking at them through that lens, they begin to look less like isolated tumors and more like biological feedback. What has changed about how the medical community understands and treats fibroids? I'm joined by the head of vascular and interventional radiology at Georgia Endovascular, Dr. Kevin Lie. Dr. Lie approaches fibroids not as isolated tissue growths, but as vascular phenomena. Together, we explore what it means to see fibroids as systemic signals, how vascular health and hormonal health intersect, and why the future of women's care may depend on breaking down the walls between specialties.Things You'll Learn In This Episode Fibroids may be a vascular warning signWe've treated them as isolated uterine growths. But what happens when we see them as part of a larger inflammatory and cardiovascular story?Inflammation is the common denominatorThe same diet, stress, and metabolic imbalances that damage arteries may also feed fibroid growth. Are we addressing symptoms while ignoring the soil?Heavy bleeding isn't just inconvenient, it's systemicChronic anemia affects mood, sleep, stress hormones, and immune resilience. How many “secondary” symptoms are actually central to the problem?Lifestyle and procedures aren't oppositesMinimally invasive interventions can reduce suffering quickly. But how do we build care models where lifestyle medicine and procedural medicine reinforce each other instead of operating in silos?Guest BioHead vascular and interventional radiologist at Georgia Endovascular-Dr. Kevin Lie of Georgia Endovascular is a highly accomplished vascular and interventional radiologist.
