A Podcast about anything, everything, and all things Seussical the Musical! Created by a fan, for the fans! We’ll talk about everything from history, to theories, to even peoples own stories and experiences, there’s no telling what may ensue! No there’s no telling what! But maybe this will give you a clue!
In the first newly recorded return episode back, Mel is able to pull some big ropes and with luck, she provides us with our very first interview featuring a guest who was a part of the original seussical era, as well as being featured in several other broadway shows and both seasons of Apple TV's Schmigadoon! Ann Harada joins the show today to generously share her personal knowledge and experience of her Seussical journey, from the very first reading with Eric Idle as the cat, to closing night on Broadway. From emergency put ins, cast members, and strength and strive galore, come and let us listen as the wonderful Ann takes the floor!
After over a year of hiatus, host Mel Baker takes you back into the whimsical world of Seussical from the perspective of an actor (Nigel Battle) who's life received a major mark from playing Horton the Elephant as a child from then to now!
The final section of the episode 2 trilogy ends with Mel talking about the show finally making its way to the broadway stage and how despite being a commercial and critical failure, was still able to get the last laugh after being revived anew outside of New York City with news script/score changes, productions, and even a cast album that allowed it to have a more positive reception that even went as far as to give it the title of a cult classic. "The adventures were over the sky became.....pink! And then guess what happened? Weeellll.... what do YOU think?"
As we head into part 2 of this three part history trilogy on Seussical's wonky world of a journey, Mel continues to tell the tale of how a tiny speck of a show with massive amounts of potential that sounded off everywhere, grew a rolling snow ball that grew with complications and other assortments that lead it to be pressured and critique by audiences and critics alike. From crew firings, to song changes, to chat sights galore! Come back with her now and let's see what we can explore! "When your life's going wrong, and you're wondering why. When your tail is so long, you're unable to fly Tell yourself How Lucky You Are"
We're back! After a month hiatus, host Mel Baker returns to talk about all things good, bad, and just straight up crazy involving the history of Seussical and how it went to a beloved musical adaptation concept, to a bumpy journey full of twists and turns trying to make it work on stage for audiences, and how it got the last laugh with its surprising success in the end. So sit back, relax, "Come along and enjoy. This tale of an elephant, a bird, and a boy"
UPDATE: I REALIZED A FEW MISTAKES IN THIS EPISODE THAT I WOULD LIKE TO ADDRESS AND CLARIFY. 1. I ACCIDENTALLY SAID BOTH EMPATHY AND SYMPATHY BUT I ONLY MEANT TO SAY SYMPATHY. I REPEAT I ONLT MEANT TO SAY SYMPATHY I HAVE A VERY SLOW BRAIN AND I APOLOGIZE. 2. I TOOK SOME JABS AT THIS SHOW BEING FOR AND SEEN BY YOUNGER AUDIENCES BUT IT GOES AGAINST WHAT I ACTUALLY BELIEVE THAT SEUSSICAL IS SHOW FOR ANYONE REGARDLESS OF AGE. YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE A KID TO ENJOY OR AN ADULT TO UNDERSTAND THE MESSAGES. KIDS ARE A LOT SMARTER THEN THEYRE CREDITED FOR AND ARE VERY UNDERESTIMATED WHEN BEING TAKEN SERIOUSLY. Ok that's all thanks! The very first official episode of the brand new podcast, Did Ya Hear? We are Here! The Seussical Stories Podcast! In this episode, Creator and Host Mel Baker takes you through the basic premises of the show (both podcast and Seussical ), as well as her journey with the show and what she hopes to cover and achieve with creating this talk space! Tune in to see and learn more for yourself! “If you open your mind, oh the thinks you will find, lining up to get loose!”
