Healthcare marketing has had a caregiver persona for fifteen years. She was worried, researching options, wanting a second opinion. That was a fair description of the job in 2010. Today most family caregivers help with bathing, dressing and mobility, and many now handle injections, wound care, catheters and oxygen equipment at home. Eleven percent were trained for any of it. Chris Boyer and Reed Smith open on new research projecting how much bigger this population gets by 2040, and on why the explanation everyone reaches for turns out to be wrong. How do you design a modern Los Angeles noir without simply recreating the past?In this episode of Decorating Pages, I talk with Production Designer Meghan C. Rogers about creating the visual world of Season 2 of Apple TV's Sugar, starring Colin Farrell. Meghan joined the series for its second season and pushed the show's established noir language further, using architecture, texture, lighting and locations to make Los Angeles itself part of John Sugar's story.We get into the massive Indonesia sequence built at the Paramount water tank, including the engineering, water-safety and fire requirements behind a set that had to work both inside and outside. Meghan also takes us through the Hotel Del Corazon and its Casablanca-inspired circular bar, Sugar's mid-century hideaway in the Hollywood Hills, the boxing gym, K-Town locations, homeless encampments created beneath some of LA's incredible concrete architecture, and a vintage trailer the art department found on Facebook Marketplace.We also talk about the less glamorous realities behind what appears on screen: graphics departments, graffiti and artwork clearances, sun studies, multiple company moves in a single day, rebuilding interiors, finding camera-friendly architecture and what happens when production asks you to flip a set…and then suddenly needs the original set back.For Meghan, the opportunity was ultimately about showing Los Angeles in all of its layers—from glamorous hilltop views to the city underneath the freeways—and finding a contemporary version of classic noir that still belongs completely to Sugar.Sugar Season 2 is streaming on Apple TV.

A DAY is coming when fallen angels and evil rulers throughout the centuries will regret their decisions to rebel against God. The chapters we read from the book of 1 Enoch prophesy a time when kings and the mighty plead for a respite from their torment so they might come before the throne and worship God. Sadly, their opportunity to repent has passed. Likewise, punishment for the fallen Watchers has been decreed and is being carried out with no hope of reprieve—at least not until the abyss opens up in Revelation 9 and they're given five months to torment those without the seal of God on their foreheads. These chapters come from the section of 1 Enoch called the Book of Parables. As we've discussed over previous months, chapters 37 to 71 of 1 Enoch was completed just about the time Jesus was born. It's important because it tells of a messianic character called the Son of Man who would execute these judgments. It's the first mention of the Son of Man in any Jewish writing—and 30 years later, Jesus applied that title to himself. We also read a couple chapters dealing with Noah. We point out a couple verses that disqualify 1 Enoch as scripture—for example, Noah apparently praying to his great-grandfather Enoch.
