"Murderbot" is an American science fiction action comedy television series created by Paul Weitz and Chris Weitz for Apple TV. It is based on "All Systems Red," the first book of the series "The Murderbot Diaries" by Martha Wells. The series stars Alexander Skarsgård as the titular character, a media-obsessed private security construct (manufactured from cloned human tissue and mechanical parts), who must hide its newly acquired autonomy while completing dangerous assignments, and is simultaneously drawn to humans and appalled by their weakness. The first season premiered in May, 2025 and received positive reviews. In July 2025, the series was renewed for a second season. Star and Executive Producer Alexander Skarsgård, along with Writers/Directors/Executive Producers Chris & Paul Weitz, were all kind enough to spend some time talking with us about their work and experiences making the show, which you can watch to below. Editor – Greg O'Bryant Tuner editor Greg O'Bryant returns to the podcast to discuss cutting a film that is part crime thriller, part romance, part character study, part music movie and part very compelling argument for keeping your ears covered in New York City. Directed by Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Daniel Roher, Tuner stars Leo Woodall as Niki, a gifted piano tuner whose hypersensitive hearing makes every day sound almost unbearable. That same extraordinary hearing also gives Niki an unexpected talent for cracking safes, pulling him from a quiet life of tuning pianos into an increasingly dangerous criminal world. The film also stars Dustin Hoffman as Harry, Niki's mentor, Havana Rose Liu as Ruthie, a young composer, along with Lior Raz, Jean Reno and Tovah Feldshuh. One of the biggest challenges on Tuner was the sheer amount of footage. Roher shot a large volume of material over a short production schedule, giving Greg and his assistant a mountain of performances, musical material, safe-cracking details and improvisation to shape into the final film. Greg discusses how he approached that process by focusing on subjectivity — using the edit to put the audience inside Niki's experience rather than simply moving through the plot. Sound was another major topic of conversation. Because Niki experiences the world through hyper-sensitive hearing, the editorial and sound teams had to build a language for when the audience enters his point of view.  Which meant figuring out how much of that experience to hear, and how to make the effect clear without making it punishing. O'Bryant also talks about working with sound designer Johnnie Burn, composer Will Bates and executive music producer Marius de Vries to balance the film's sound design, live music and score. Jen and Noam are celebrating the president's birthday! No, we aren't actually! But we are talking about Trump and his on-again, off-again affair with Iran. After we finished recording this week's episode there was an announcement of an alleged deal between the US and Iran, which sounds more like Trump capitulating to try to give himself a birthday win. Needless to say, we've heard this one before so until there is a signed piece of paper we don't believe you.  We do believe, however, that the new era of drone warfare is here thanks to Ukraine and the success they have had striking within Russia with their drones. We also agree: war without military casualties is both amazing and terrifying.  Back to the topic of Trump's birthday, the saga of the Kennedy Center's name has picked up again this past weekend. It has been reported that Trump's name has indeed been removed, but there is an…interesting scaffolding of plastic sheeting obscuring the view of the letting on the front of the building. This conversation leads us to once again lament that Congress refuses to do their job and leaves everything to the courts to clean up.  For our WAWC, Noam still really really wants you to watch the Apple TV show Widow's Bay. He also feels like Apple should be paying him at this point, since they suck at promoting their own content. Jen finally saw The Mandalorian and Grogu, a perfectly fine movie that is really episode 0 of season four of The Mandalorian. Which is a good thing!

Our chronological reading order brings the book of Micah into the middle of our study of Isaiah. While Isaiah prophesied a day when the kingdom of Judah would declare, “God is my salvation,” Micah's prophecy is a warning of God's imminent judgment for the sins of Judah and Samaria. We see both prophecies as being of the “already but not yet” type, fulfilled in the eighth century BC, but with a future fulfillment still to come. Bear in mind when reading Isaiah 12 that the the Hebrew word translated “salvation” is Yeshua—Jesus. Democratic candidate for Congressional District 5, Chaz Molder, is determined to keep his promise to defeat Andy Ogles in November. News: Households Used More Than 10 Video Services Daily Google Rolls Out a Major Update to Its Google TV Streamer 4k Apple TV from Apple's WWDC 2026 Key takeaways for Apple TV from Apple's WWDC 2026 are relatively modest and software-focused, as the event emphasized iOS 27. tvOS 27 Highlights for Apple TV Larger Text / System-Wide Text Size Adjustment: A new accessibility option lets users increase on-screen text size across supported apps and the interface. AI-Generated / On-Device Subtitles: tvOS 27 adds real-time automatic subtitle generation for videos lacking built-in captions (including personal content).  Other Refinements: Expect Liquid Glass UI polish, performance/stability improvements, smarter recommendations, and better smart home/HomeKit ties. Siri upgrades (more conversational, on-screen awareness) should improve voice control on Apple TV, though full Apple Intelligence features may wait for new hardware. tvOS 27 developer betas are available now post-keynote, with public release expected in fall 2026 alongside other OS updates. As far as the Apple Home app goes, updates  mainly dealt with Apple Intelligence integration for smarter camera handling and notifications: The Home app now uses Apple Intelligence to generate natural language descriptions of compatible camera footage, letting you search clips conversationally by saying something like,  "show me when the dog was in the backyard" Smarter batched notifications that feel less overwhelming. Alerts are intelligently grouped and dynamic instead of constant floods. Accessory updates update in real-time as conditions change. With deeper Siri AI and Shortcuts integration you can describe automations in natural language and let Siri build them (including Home shortcuts). Voice control becomes more conversational and context-aware. Hardware Notes No new Apple TV 4K hardware was announced at WWDC (consistent with expectations). A refreshed model with A17 Pro (or similar) for full Apple Intelligence/Siri 2.0 support, better smart home capabilities, and possibly Wi-Fi 7 has been "ready for months" but is being held for later in 2026 to align with the advanced AI features. What is Sony's True RGB TV All About? Sony's True RGB is Sony's marketing name for their advanced RGB Mini-LED backlight technology, introduced in 2026 for high-end BRAVIA TVs the BRAVIA 9 II and BRAVIA 7 II series.
