Amanda Peet (Fantasy Life, Your Friends & Neighbors, The Whole Nine Yards) is an actor, writer, and producer. Amanda joins the Armchair Expert to discuss being a serial monogamist during her dating years, what relation she has to the designer of Radio City Music Hall, and going from a hippie Quaker school in Manhattan to a stuffy private school in London. Amanda and Dax talk about recognizing a pattern of existential thinking when her kids turn seven, undergoing psychoanalysis at age 13, and contending with the cultural mores of Something's Gotta Give. Amanda explains relishing the opportunity to play a high functioning character with mental illness in her new film, exploring a complicated relationship with wealth in Your Friends and Neighbors, and recently finding a new gear in acting.Check Allstate first for a quote that could save you hundreds: https://www.allstate.com/Head to turbotax.com to find a store location near you and get matched with a TurboTax expert — with real-time updates in the iOS app. This episode is sponsored by AppleTV. Reposted from The ‘Cast of Us, which you can find at: https://podcastica.com/podcast/the-cast-of-us — Holy cow what an aggressively brutal episode, and also an artfully crafted one, with the juxtaposition between the mundanely suburban confines of Alexandria and the explosively violent attack from those big bad Wolves! On this week's episode of Unclear and Present Danger, Jamelle and John watch U.S. Marshals, the extremely lackluster sequel to The Fugitive which dispenses with a straightforward cat and mouse story in favor of a byzantine conspiracy involving government moles, foreign espionage and the Taiwanese government. Directed by Stuart Baird, U.S. Marshals stars Tommy Lee Jones, Wesley Snipes, Robert Downey Jr., Joe Pantoliano, Kate Nelligan and Irène Jacob. The tagline for U.S. Marshalls was "The cop who won't stop is back. But this time he's chasing down a lot more than a fugitive."You can find the film to rent or buy on Amazon and Apple TV.Episodes of the podcast are released roughly every other week, so join us again later this month for a look at Mercury Rising, Harold Becker's conspiracy thriller starring Bruce Willis, Alec Baldwin, Miko Hughes, Chi McBride and Kim Dickens. And don't forget our Patreon, where we cover the films of the Cold War and produce a weekly politics commentary show. Sign up at patreon.com/unclearpod.
A FIFTH COLUMN of conservative influencers is fracturing the base of support for President Trump by pushing ideas from the man called “Putin's brain.” Aleksandr Dugin had hoped President Trump would lead the United States into a multipolar world. Instead, Trump's willingness to use the United States military to achieve specific goals in Iran, namely, regime change and the prevention of the Islamic Republic obtaining nuclear weapons, has shattered that vision. Meanwhile, podcasters like Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, Candace Owens, Nick Fuentes, and others are, whether they realize it or not, pushing Dugin's worldview on their viewers—specifically, a philosophy that blames Zionists for all of the world's evils. Candace Owens has gone so far as to call for active duty military personnel to leave their posts rather than die for Israel. The contention by the four mentioned above is that war with Iran was pushed on President Trump by Benjamin Netanyahu and Zionists within his cabinet. It remains to be seen whether the Iranian people throw off the fundamentalist Islamic regime. If this happens, it not only changes the face of the Middle East, but it strikes a blow at the energy security of China – something that was already seriously affected by the removal of Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro. Also: islamists now control the United Kingdom. Here's the link to the essay we discussed by Insurrection Barbie, "The Long Game and the Conservative Right." It's well worth the read. Atlanta United returns home looking for answers after a difficult start to the season, and this week's SDH Week in Review brings insight from the voices who have been closest to the action. Jon Nelson is joined by Apple TV analyst Kacey White, who was on the call for Atlanta United's loss in San Jose, to break down what she saw from the Five Stripes and where the team can improve heading into the home opener. Next, Real Salt Lake radio commentator Landon Southwick joins the show to preview RSL ahead of their trip to Mercedes-Benz Stadium, including how Pablo Mastroeni's side is playing and what Atlanta should expect tactically. Finally, Miguel Gallardo, Spanish-language commentator with Apple TV, discusses calling tonight's match and reflects on one of the wildest moments of last weekend in MLS: Inter Miami's dramatic comeback against Orlando. Three perspectives from three broadcasters across MLS, all focused on the storylines shaping Atlanta United's week. Guests: Kacey White (Apple TV MLS Season Pass) Landon Southwick (Real Salt Lake Radio) Miguel Gallardo (Apple TV Spanish Broadcast)
Send me a message. I would love to know where you are listening to me from!!Hello again just wanted to chat about seeing full F1 coverage on Apple TV. From the looks of the qualifying show for the Fosters Australian Grand Prix it looks to be chock full of insight. At least one Brundle is on the broadcast. Martin Brundle is my favorite pundit but I have a feeling that he is on the other side thanks for listening ! "The English have Shakespeare, the French have Molière, and the Russians have Dostoyevsky. What do we own? What do we have? The Western".A few weeks we lost a great and legendary actor who was also one of our top favourite actors. The great Robert Duvall passed away at the age of 95 on the 15th of February 2026. An actor regarded for his amazing versatility, immense range of performances, an actor who always strived for authenticity and realism. He could be big and theatrically booming but he could also be low-key and subtle. A terrific actor. He starred in many films. The Godfather, The Conversation, The Godfather Part 2, Network, Lonesome Dove, Tender Mercies, Jack Reacher, Days of Thunder, Falling Down, To Kill a Mockingbird, M*A*S*H and of course Apocalypse Now. One of the most dedicated and respected actors of his generation. We wanted to pay tribute to Duvall on this episode and hope we did a good job with that. Be sure to check out our Monument Valley Film on our YouTube Channel.Anders's screenwriter work can also be seen at work in the horror, car chase thriller Delivery Run, co-written with & directed by Joey Palmroos. The film has been released digitally and also in select cinemas in the US and the UK. In Finland it was released on Apple TV after finishing its limited cinema run and was the Number 1 film for multiple weeks. You can read a review about it here on the Fangoria website. The film is now available to watch in the other Nordic territories like Sweden, Oslo and of course Denmark. On this week's show we have a shootout between four set top boxes and we try to determine which one is best for you. We also read your email and take a look at the week's email. News: Netflix Walks With A Cool $2.8 Billion Breakup Fee: Who Gets What In New Paramount-WBD Merger Proposal Viewers Continue To 'Struggle' With Sports Program Discovery Samsung Wallet's 'Digital Home Key' lets me use my phone to open my doors Set Top Box Shootout On last week's show, in response to a news story, Ara asked why would someone use a FireTV set top box over ones from Apple, Google, or Roku. So for this week we decided to do a comparison of them all and try to identify who each product would benefit the most. For this comparison we looked at the Apple TV 4K (latest 3rd-gen model from 2022, still current), Google TV Streamer (the modern successor to Chromecast with Google TV), Roku (focusing on high-end like Roku Ultra or Streaming Stick 4K), and Amazon Fire TV (focusing on popular models like Fire TV Stick 4K Max or Cube). All support 4K HDR streaming including Dolby Vision, major apps (Netflix, Disney+, etc.), and voice remotes. In a nutshell, the differences come down to your ecosystem, interface, performance, ads, and price. Apple TV 4K Price range: ~$129–$149 (64GB Wi-Fi or 128GB Wi-Fi + Ethernet). Key specs: A15 Bionic chip (fast/smooth), Wi-Fi 6, optional Ethernet, Dolby Vision/Atmos/HDR10+, Thread smart home hub, USB-C Siri Remote. Pros: Premium, ad-free high performance interface with fast app loading. Excellent integration with Apple ecosystem (iPhone, iPad, Mac, AirPlay, Apple TV+, Fitness+, Arcade). Superior picture/audio quality, privacy focus (less tracking), and acts as a smart home hub. Great for gaming (Apple Arcade) and high-end home theater setups. Cons: Most expensive option. Less neutral—prioritizes Apple content/services. Fewer "free/ad-supported" channels compared to rivals. Best for: Apple users and those wanting a premium, ad free experience. Google TV Streamer Price range: ~$90–$100 (Buy Now). Key specs: Powerful processor (faster than old Chromecast), 32GB storage, Wi-Fi 6, Ethernet, Dolby Vision/Atmos, Google Home/Matter smart home support, hands-free options in some setups. Pros: Intuitive, personalized interface with excellent content discovery/search across services. Strong Google ecosystem integration (YouTube, Nest, Google Assistant, synced watchlists). Good performance/speed, supports cloud gaming, and broad app support. Balanced neutral approach. Cons: Some ads and recommendations can feel cluttered. More expensive than basic sticks but cheaper than Apple. Interface may prioritize Google content slightly. Best for: Google/Android users or those wanting smart recommendations and smart home features. Roku (Ultra or Streaming Stick 4K) Price range: ~$30–$100 (Buy Now). Key specs: Fast quad-core processor (in Ultra), Wi-Fi 6, Ethernet (Ultra), Dolby Vision/Atmos/HDR10+, rechargeable Voice Remote Pro (Ultra), broad smart home compatibility. Pros: Simple, neutral, user-friendly interface with huge app/channel selection (including tons of free/ad-supported content). No heavy ecosystem bias—treats all services equally. Often the most affordable high-quality options; great search/universal watchlist. Compatible with Alexa, Google, Apple Home; highly popular among cord-cutters. Cons: Can feel slower on lower-end models compared to premium rivals. Some ads on home screen. Less "smart home hub" depth than Apple/Google. Best for: Most people—especially beginners or those wanting value and neutrality. Amazon Fire TV (Fire TV Stick 4K Max or Cube) Price range: ~$25–$60 Sticks (Buy Now) to ~$100+ Cube (Buy Now). Key specs: Fast processor/Wi-Fi 6E (Max), Dolby Vision/Atmos, Alexa voice, Ambience mode, Ethernet (Cube). Pros: Very affordable, especially on sale. Quick performance and deep Amazon Prime integration (Prime Video priority). Excellent Alexa/smart home control (Ring, Echo, etc.). Good app support and features like live TV guides. Cons: Heavy ads and Prime content promotion (can feel pushy/cluttered). Interface prioritizes Amazon ecosystem over neutrality. Privacy concerns with more tracking. Best for: Amazon Prime members or Alexa/Echo households on a budget. Overall, Roku wins for broad appeal and value, while we give the nod to the Apple TV 4K for premium quality, and the Google TV Streamer excels for smart features. Choose based on your ecosystem (Apple/Google/Amazon) or if you want neutral/no-fuss just go with Roku.
Have you ever wondered what actually goes on behind the velvet ropes of Hollywood and the massive arenas of the sports world? In this episode, Frank sits down with Maddy Myer, a seasoned publicist and the host of the brand new podcast, Maddy Mania. Maddy pulls back the curtain on the high-stakes world of public relations, revealing that it takes far more than just walking red carpets to manage a celebrity's image. From navigating sudden PR crises to adapting to the influencer era, Maddy shares her insider knowledge and career journey. Plus, we dive into her new podcasting venture, which perfectly blends deep fan "spirals" with expert industry analysis, covering everything from K-Pop and wrestling to classic TV shows. Timestamps & Topics 00:00:00 – Introduction: Welcoming Maddy Myer and the launch of Maddy Mania. 00:00:28 – What does a Hollywood publicist actually do? (Hint: It's not just red carpets). 00:01:35 – Career Pivot: How Maddy transitioned from nursing to Public Relations. 00:02:57 – Behind the Scenes: Handling crises, time management, and staying adaptable. 00:03:50 – The PR Shift: How social media and influencer collabs are taking over traditional press. 00:04:55 – Sports vs. Entertainment: Exploring the massive overlap in fandom culture. 00:07:18 – Industry Advice: How to land a job in PR (internships and writing are key!). 00:08:40 – Hollywood's take on PR: Why Maddy loves Apple TV's The Studio. 00:10:41 – The birth of Maddy Mania: Balancing professional goals with pure fan obsession. 00:14:52 – The power of Comic-Con and the importance of exclusivity in modern press runs. 00:20:47 – Dream Guests: Why Ariana Grande and CM Punk are at the top of Maddy's list. 00:21:54 – Rapid Fire Questions: Blackpink dominance, Gossip Girl comfort watches, and viral wrestling theme songs. Key Takeaways PR is Crisis Management: A publicist's true value lies in their adaptability. What seems like a minor hiccup can easily turn into a major crisis, requiring constant schedule juggling and rapid problem-solving. Social Media is the New Press: Traditional media (like radio and print) is taking a backseat to content creation, influencer collaborations, and digital brand building. Fandoms are Universal: Whether you are pitching a sports client or an entertainment star, the passion of the fanbase is the driving force behind a successful campaign. Start Early and Write Often: For those aspiring to enter the PR field, getting diverse internship experience and heavily refining your writing skills are the most critical steps to success. Embrace Your Inner Fan: Maddy Mania proves that you can be a respected industry professional while still unabashedly "spiraling" over your favorite childhood shows, K-pop groups, or wrestlers. Memorable Quotes "You are basically their image makers. You are who's in charge of making sure they look good on camera and off camera... and making sure that their brand and their image stays in a positive light." > "I feel like something that you think could be small could become like a major crisis... being a publicist, you have to be adaptable and flexible, for sure." "Exclusivity is everything in the modern publicist realm. And so Comic-Con is a really good, high-profile event to kind of announce those kinds of things." THIS IS THE 'SEVERED: ORIGINS' BREAKDOWN OF 'ETERNAL SUNSHINE' - PT05Welcome back for Part Five of this Ultimate breakdown of "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind." If you've come this far, there's not a lot I can say. It's time to delve into Joel's humiliations. This is the cringy stuff Charlie Kaufman really likes to write about. It might leave you feeling just a bit sick to your stomach...that's okay, it's the CK way.Mrs. Howard makes a visit! Mary starts to kiss Howard right in front of the big window that's all lit up all of a sudden in Joel's apartment. They start this at the exact same moment as Mrs. Mierzwiak comes rolling up in her Chevy Sedan. Hollis unloads on Howard plus she spills the beans about Mary. At least she causes Mary to ask some questions that Howard finds hard to answer. Deceiving Mary will prove to be a very bad idea. This ORIGINS entry is a trippy 2004 title from French Director Michel Gondry. Both Dan Erickson and Ben Stiller list it as an inspiration. It stars Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey. This is considered one of the best things Jim Carrey has ever done.Get ready for Part FIVE of this enormous movie breakdown.*******Huge thanks to Adam Scott, star of 'Severance' and host of the Severance Podcast for recording a custom intro for "Severed." In this week's episode, we discuss Romantasy, the Franken-genre that has conquered the publishing world and defined the libidinal landscapes of a generation of women. We decode the genre's DNA from dimestore bodice-rippers to high fantasy epics, examine the sociological profile of its authors and audiences, and explore how it's mutated in the digital age via AI visualizers and high-budget audio erotica. We also talk about Renaissance faires, fujoshi discourse, the mirror image of male vs. female gooning in popular culture, Emerald Fennell's Wuthering Heights as the BookTok movie of the century, and more. One of our absolute faves returns to Soccer City for the first time this season! Apple TV host Kevin Egan has seen Charlotte FC get 1 goal and 0 points from 2 games in 2026...but he's not pushing the panic button yet! Kev gives DannyBrams some reassurance about Wilfried Zaha's contract situation, The Crown's backline blunders, and how Dean Smith can make all the pieces fit...and on top of it all he's got an Austin FC scouting report for us this weekend. The home opener is just a few days away, and it's For the Crown, Baby!
What if failure isn't the enemy—but the training ground? That's the question Christian Taylor explores in this episode of Documentary First: The Deep Dive, sparked by her conversation with filmmaker Quinnolyn Benson-Yates about the documentary Epic Bill. Bill Bradley lost his video rental empire to Netflix, went bankrupt, went through a divorce—and then rebuilt himself through extreme endurance athletics. His mantra? “Courage is a muscle.” And “Show up and suffer.”In this deeply personal episode, Christian connects Bill's story to her own struggles as a filmmaker, podcast host, and business owner—and to the ancient wisdom of the Stoics, Scripture, and some of history's greatest examples of failure-turned-triumph.What You'll Learn:Why “courage is a muscle” is backed by actual scienceThe mental tennis lesson that changed Christian's relationship with failureWhat Thomas Edison and Michael Jordan understood about reframing failureHow the 1980 “Miracle on Ice” wouldn't have happened without a crushing 10-3 defeatWhat the Stoics and James 1:2-4 agree on about trials and perseveranceChristian's honest confession about feeling like a failure—and choosing to keep goingKey Quotes:“I didn't fail. I found out 2,000 ways how not to make a light bulb.” — Thomas Edison“I've failed over and over and over in my life. And that's why I succeed.” — Michael Jordan“The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.” — Marcus Aurelius“Valuing the courage to try again is a radical concept.” — Quinnolyn Benson-YatesFeatured Documentary: Epic Bill, directed by Quinnolyn Benson-Yates. With one day of Apple announcements left, the MacVoices panel tackles rising RAM and storage prices and what shortages could mean for upcoming devices. Chuck Joiner, David Ginsburg, Brian Flanigan-Arthurs, Marty Jencius, Jeff Gamet, Eric Bolden, Web Bixby, and Jim Rea debate whether Apple's bigger base configs are simply planned far in advance, a response to component pricing, or a signal of hardware requirements for upcoming AI features like an improved Siri. Attention then shifts to the rumored "Neo" MacBook, its likely education focus, and whether Apple's new displays risk becoming niche due to strict compatibility limits. http://traffic.libsyn.com/maclevelten/MV26091.mp3 Today's MacVoices is supported by TV+ Talk, our MacVoices series with Charlotte Henry focused on Apple TV+. Can we take a moment for the Yorkshire puddings, too! We welcome Jennifer Garner to Dish for our Mother's Day special, and the award-winning actor, known for her roles in Alias and the cult rom-com 13 Going on 30, is the perfect guest for such an occasion. Jennifer is a mum to three children and has a wonderful relationship with her mother, Pat, whose cooking helped shape Jennifer's huge love of food. Jennifer has been pulling together meals on her Pretend Cooking Show (seen on Instagram) for years, with Pat making some great cameos along the way. No surprise, then, that she is very passionate about all the fine eats in life, like pizza, bread, roast chicken and big American salads. She sits down with us to chat about Season 2 of The Last Thing He Told Me, a thriller, which can be seen now on Apple TV. The show is based on the hugely popular books of US author Laura Dave, and sees Jennifer in the lead role of Hannah, unravelling the mysterious disappearance of her husband. Angela pulls out all the stops for our Mother's Day roast with an incredible meal of roast beef & hasselback potatoes with chimichurri alongside perfect Yorkshire puddings, which seem to catch Jennifer by surprise. The meal is paired by our Waitrose wine experts with a bottle of Dona Paula El Alto Single Vineyard Malbec. So, for anyone wondering how to treat your mum this year, look no further. And please do share the results! You can watch full episodes of Dish on YouTube and on Spotify. This is one of the bravest, most life-changing conversations we've ever had on this podcast. In this unforgettable episode, beloved poet and activist Andrea Gibson joins us to share news they had just received: that their cancer was incurable. What you will hear is not despair — you will hear the sound of a human being choosing, moment by moment, to stay awake to love, to beauty, and to what is still astonishing right now. This conversation changed us forever. It transformed how we understand fear, mortality, and what it means to truly be alive. There is also a powerful full-circle moment: director and producers Ryan White and Jess Hargrave listened to this very episode on a flight — and by the time they landed, they knew they had to make the documentary Come See Me in the Good Light, which is now nominated for Best Documentary Feature at the Academy Awards. This episode includes honest discussion of illness, death, and suicidal ideation. Please take care as you listen. What Andrea offers us here is a profound reminder: we cannot control how long we live — but we can decide how deeply we love while we're here. You can stream Come See Me in the Good Light now on Apple TV. Crazy episode that definitely takes at least two viewings to really get it (all the black and white scenes are earlier, and color later). Coming right on the heals of the season five finale, this episode felt like a continuation of that season, which made me like it even more than I did the first time around. First Time Again :P As mentioned on the podcast, Lucy has a busy schedule for the next couple of months, but we don't want to leave you guys hanging, so I (Jason) will be continuing on with the rewatch with guest hosts — happy to welcome longtime listener and “What Is From?” podcaster Alex with me for this one — and Lucy will be back for the big 700 (if not before). Check out my (Jason's) other podcast, Wax Episodic, where friends and I cover our favorite current shows, like: Severance, the mysterious, mind-bending, amusingly strange Apple TV workplace thriller about identity, memory, and corporate control. Covered by me and Karen. (!) Fallout, the crazy, funny, retro-futuristic post-apocalyptic series on Amazon Prime Video. Covered by me, Kara, and Kasi. Pluribus, the Twilight-Zoney Apple TV show from Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan, covered by me and Karen. It: Welcome to Derry, the horrific HBO series, prequel to the recent It movies based on the Stephen King book. Covered by me and Shawn of Strange Indeed. Alien: Earth, the heady, gross-out FX/Hulu sci-fi series based on the Alien movies. Covered by me, Randy, and Kara. Available wherever you get podcasts, or at waxepisodic.com Thank you!
