...in which we embark on a memorial walk to Innominate Tarn on Haystacks to ask the question: How did fell-walker Alfred Wainwright impact on so many lives? Closing a year of AW anniversaries – including the 70th anniversary of the publication of his first Pictorial Guide – we set out from Honister in the company of a string of guests whose lives have been touched or changed by the Blackburn-born rambler, artist and guidebook writer. Chatting as we wander – through dense clag and worsening rain – we meet walker Richard Jennings, who completed his 214 at 2:14 on the 21st of the fourth, 2014 (definitely not an obsessive!), and who credits AW with his move to the Lakes. We catch up with geographer-legend Chris Jesty – the only person authorised by AW to update his Guides – who chats about camping on Scafell Pike for six months "waiting for clear weather", about the 10-year three-month update odyssey, and why the Howgills and Outlying Fells are his backwater favourites. Arriving at Dubs Hut, we are joined by brothers Mike and Paul Duff from Kendal. who accompanied dad Percy and Betty Wainwright onto Haystacks in March '91 to scatter AW's ashes, and who recall their old family friend – the "foreigner from Blackburn" who sunk roots deep in Westmorland. Anna Nolan from Keswick is our next guest – a bagging record-breaker currently on her 11th round of the Wainwrights by bus, with a cumulative tally of 6,000+ fells and counting. Sculptor Clive Barnard recounts his experience of working with AW on the bronze bust now resident in Kendal Museum, remembering the 'big, amiable bear' with a commercially savvy mind who made "awful" cups of tea. In thickening clag, we meet Chris and Lorena Linke from Florida, who fell in love with long distance walking, after completing AW's Coast to Coast Walk, and discuss the under-acknowledged community created by the C2C, life lessons taught by through-walks, and the unique storytelling artistry of the Guides. Arriving at our pilgrimage end-point of Innominate Tarn, we pay our respects to former Westmorland Gazette print manager Andrew Nicholl – one of the unsung heroes of the AW story, who did so much for the ex-fellwanderer, his book sales and his profile. Beside the hallowed 'gravely shore' of the misty tarn, Chris and his wife Priscilla reflect on Andrew's legacy, and the poignant 'guard of honour' final trip he made onto Haystacks to say farewell to his old friend. Happy New Year to all, from Mark and Dave! Chris's extensive archive of articles about AW's books and memorabilia can be found at alfredwainwright.co.uk/ Anna Nolan's books about fell-bagging and walking in the Lakes can be found at bookguild.co.uk/our-authors/anna-nolan Richard Jennings has created The Lakeland Way – a 144 mile walk through the valleys and mountain passes of the Lake District. See here for more. Inspired by the Coast to Coast Walk, Chris and Lorena Linke made a film about the Herriot Way. The story behind it can be found at alfredwainwright.co.uk/the-herriot-way/ The film of Andrew Nichol's journey to Innominate Tarn can be found at youtube.com/watch?v=UpLVp20qIJE&t=330s Chris Jesty's beautiful summit panoramas can be enjoyed here: viewfinderpanoramas.org/panoramas/ChrisJestyPanoramas.html With many thanks to Chris for making the day and recording happen. And with thanks to the team at Honister for driving some of our guests to Dubs Hut, and for Tom McNally for arranging the transport.

After looking back at the most (and least) popular episodes from the past year or so, I share the story of almost dying when I lost my brakes (with five South African friends in tow) going down a 14,700 ft. mountain pass in Tibet. Then, we run through a few China stories that have been sitting on the backburner for awhile, followed by the final Pray for China of the year (Dec 29-Jan 4). Check out all the links/details below! In this episode Sascha and I talk about how it feels to hand things over to something we can't see, know or control to tend. We look at moments when we've come to the end of our ability to act and understand but nowhere near the limit of our ability to care or worry. We wonder about what it means to let something go with a belief that it will be caught - by community, by forces of nature, by things we can't define - and how that compares to letting go with a feeling of dread and insufficiency. We note how useful it is for imperial materialism and our constantly adored cell phones to have us feel like we are letting people down when we let thing go unfinished, and hope for ways we might practice new ways to whole-heartedly doing our part - including periods of work and periods of rest - for ourselves, each other and the big unknowable everything we live with.

Rob Reiner's tragic death marks the end of a remarkable career that brought us beloved films from "This is Spinal Tap" to "Stand by Me" to "The Princess Bride" to "A Few Good Men," just to name a few. And of course, beyond filmmaking, Reiner will be remembered for his most iconic comedic role as Mike Stivic (or Meathead as father-in-law Archie Bunker called him) on "All in the Family." On this episode, co-hosts Bruce Miller and Terry Lipshetz discuss Reiner's legacy, including his most memorable films and appearances. Then, Miller shares an interview he had with Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, stars of the new film "Song Sung Blue," which could be this year's go-to movie during the holiday season. And to wrap up, the hosts discuss some of their favorite Christmas movies of all time. About the show Streamed & Screened is a podcast about movies and TV hosted by Bruce Miller, a longtime entertainment reporter who is the retired editor of the Sioux City Journal in Iowa and Terry Lipshetz, a senior producer for Lee Enterprises based in Madison, Wisconsin. The show was named Best Podcast in the 2025 Iowa Better Newspaper Contest. Theme music Thunder City by Lunareh, used under license from Soundstripe. YouTube clearance: FV694ULMCJQDG0IY
Just some Xmass chat , to End this year , gearing up for some special podcasting for the new year
For the last episode of 2025, the dorks (except Dirk) spend an entire episode inadvertently discussing a lot of nostalgic stuff. It kicks off with GI Joe movies and Ghostbusters lore (with some Dave Coulier thrown in, for some reason?). Then we move into video games for the majority of the show, pitching ideas for applying a randomizer to old games, point & click adventure game Moon Logic, smashing franchises and generations of games together, inserting roguelikes, and other tangential nonsense as usual. Be sure to let us know what old video game franchise you'd wish they'd put into a collection. Thanks to everyone for being with us this year! Come join us in the future! Welcome back to ask uncut where we unpack some of your deep and pressing dilemmas! Vibes and unsubscribes for the week: Britt - Incels podcast Laura - Picture Postie Keeshia - The Beast In Me on Netflix MY BOYFRIEND TAKES VIAGRA BUT HE DOESN’T KNOW THAT I KNOWI’ve been with my boyfriend for 6 months and we have a healthy sex life. There’s been a couple of occasions where he has struggled to maintain an erection and he occasionally brushes it off as just a performance thing. The other day when I was at his house, I noticed a pack of used viagra on his bathroom counter. Now I honestly don’t mind that he uses viagra as personally I just see it as an aid to our healthy sex life. But my question is should I tell him I know he takes it? I don’t want him to feel insecure that he needs to take it if I bring it up. But I also feel like he shouldn’t have to hide it from me as I really don’t mind if he takes it. Help a sister out, to tell him I know or continue just having great sex without him knowing I know IS IT NORMAL TO SPEAK TO AN EX?My ex and I were in a relationship for 8 years. First love, high school sweethearts type of thing and were engaged for a year before it ended tumultuously. A lot of things were left unresolved with no closure. We never spoke to each other since, until now. Fast forward 6 years and he’s appeared on my socials. Now I’ve been married for 2 years and he’s been in a relationship for 3. We’ve cleared the air about how things ended and have genuinely seemed to have formed a friendship again and catching up on each other’s life. I don’t know if his girlfriend knows, but I haven’t told my husband. For context, we’ve had our own issues the last 6 months so it wouldn’t be ideal. My question is can you have a platonic relationship with an ex or am I setting myself up for a disaster HUSBAND HAS BEEN SEX CHATTING OUR WHOLE MARRIAGEI’ve been with my husband for 13 years and we have 3 year old twins. For content- our relationship has been really really rocky ever since the babies were born. I take full responsibility for my part of it and I’m well aware of my personal issues and the fact that I sometimes can be a pain in the ass and difficult to live with (so is he obviously). We’ve been talking things through several times and agreed to stay married because deep down we know that we love each other. We’ve just bought a new bigger house and we both saw that as new, clean beginning Now to my dilemma. A couple of weeks ago, I accidentally looked at my husband's phone (not intentionally looking for something “bad”) and discovered an app installed on his phone that’s only used for sexchatting. I confronted him with this and he admitted that he’s been sex-chatting with other girls for most of our time together, basically since 2012. Even though our relationship was fantastic (before kids) and our sex life pretty awesome, especially in the early years. All these years, he’s been doing it behind my back. Chatting with other girls, sending naked pictures of himself, receiving videos etc etc. He says he stopped doing this a couple of years ago (but I find that hard to believe- why was the app still on his phone) and he’s stubbornly insisting that this doesn’t constitute cheating. To him - this is equivalent to watching porn. This makes me even more sad and angry. I’m totally devastated. I feel grossed out and I do consider this cheating. Just the thought of him doing this while we were newly weds etc makes me sick. I’m absolutely sure that I do not want to divorce him, mostly because of our children. I can’t stand the thought of not seeing my babies every other week. I really want to forgive him and move on from this- but how?? How can I trust he’s never going to do this again, knowing that it’s been going on for years. I’ve suggested couple counselling but he’s hesitant. I would love to hear your thoughts on this. Much love from a devoted listener all the way from Sweden! (Would like to remain anonymous:) SHOULD I INVITE MY SISTER TO MY WEDDING?My partner and I are getting married next year, and we’re clashing over one major guest decision: my sister. To put it simply, my sister has caused a lot of hurt and conflict for me and my parents over the past eight years. She struggles with alcoholism, often makes everything about herself, and shows strong narcissistic tendencies.I initially said I would invite her because she’s my sister, but my partner is firmly against it and honestly, I understand why. Every time I’ve seen her in recent years, it’s ended in drama, usually fuelled by alcohol, and I’m left upset and in tears. She hasn’t really shown up for me in any meaningful way and has even taken advantage of me financially. My partner keeps reminding me that our wedding day should be about us, and he’d hate for her to ruin it. Discover how trauma can live in the body — and what happens when we finally listen. In this episode of Chatting with Betsy, I spoke with Mitch Webb, a holistic health and somatic coach who opened up about his powerful journey of healing. After facing a traumatic brain injury, Lyme disease, pre-diabetes, multiple COVID infections, a car accident, and burnout, Mitch realized his body had been trying to get his attention all along. We discussed how trauma lives in the body, how stress patterns show up in the nervous system, and how somatic coaching helped Mitch finally reconnect with his health. This conversation also made me reflect on my own caregiving experience and how I wish I had known about these tools back then. This is a heartfelt episode about healing, self-awareness, and the strength it takes to listen to your body when it's screaming for help.

AI toys look like harmless gifts, but many of them work like a kid-friendly chatbot with a microphone attached. In this episode, we unpack why that matters for real families: how a child can start trusting a “friendly” toy voice, what that can lead to, and why privacy settings and data policies are not optional details. You'll also hear a simple, realistic plan parents can use right away, including where these toys should (and should not) be used at home, what to check in the settings, and how to spot the red flags when a company's privacy language feels intentionally confusing.

From luminous landscapes to pieces exploring history, politics, and Scottish culture, the exhibition was a celebration of creativity in all its forms. Visitors enjoyed coffee, cake, live music and great conversation at the drop-in stone-painting workshop that kept the creative energy flowing. Today I'm chatting with the oh-so-talented out recording artist Cornelius Versa. Raised on a soundtrack of LeAnn Rimes, Brooks & Dunn, and Verdi, Cornelius blends country storytelling with the drama of his classical roots. His debut album, “The Crystal Cowboy,” is a wide-open jukebox of heartache, rebellion, and queer identity, tracing the road to finally finding his voice. At its core, the new collection is a country album, but the listening experience is bigger than that blending touches of classical arrangements, opera, folk, rock, and pop — or as he likes to call it, “Operatic Americana.” “The Crystal Cowboy,” is available now on all major music platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. You can find him on Instagram at instagram.com/corneliusversa, his official website corneliusversa.com, and on YouTube at youtube.com/@corneliusversa
Glass is a marvel, considered a luxury at many points throughout history, with it's invention giving us one of the greatest and most beautiful gifts in the art world today. Art glass is defined as any object, made of glass of course, used for decorative and aesthetic purposes rather than for function. Duluth creatives can master the craft right in their own backyard thanks to Lake Superior Art Glass, a one-of-a-kind working glass studio and art gallery located right here in the Zenith City. The unique spot offers custom and commissioned works of art, featured glass work crafted by over sixty local artists and hands-on classes nearly every day of the week. With Dan Neff at the helm, it's no surprise the spot was named the Best Art Gallery in the city in 2025, and is known statewide for being Minnesota's premiere art gallery and studio. Get to know the man and the mission behind one of Canal Park's coolest businesses in this episode of For The Love Of Duluth.

In this special bonus episode, Sienna and her dad Ben headed to Wellington (by plane - not flying creature) for the Avatar: Fire & Ash premiere. They sat down with legendary director James Cameron to chat about borrowing his Avatar pool, how Avatar first came to him in a dream, whether he’d change anything about Titanic if he made it today, and where Ben should (or absolutely should not) be allowed to display his Avatar children's toy at home. It’s a seriously funny and fascinating conversation. They also caught up with three of the film’s stars: iconic Kiwi actor Cliff Curtis, Avatar’s Jake Sully himself, Sam Worthington, and Jack Champion, who plays Spider. Cliff reveals why he hates watching his own movies, all three share the very different ways they landed their roles, and the group weighs in on whether Ben should show up to pick Sienna up from school in full Avatar costume. Plus: behind-the-scenes chaos including sharing a room with a snoring dad, red carpet Dad jokes, school leave approval drama, and a pair of broken shoes. Avatar: Fire & Ash hits cinemas from December 18.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
