Podcast by Doing Life
It has literally been so long since we recorded this that I genuinely can't remember what we talked about. Can't wait to listen and find out.
How do you become the best version of yourself? What is getting in the way? What are you even optimizing for in the first place, how do you define "best"--happy, productive, grateful? Mike and I dance around the topic by asking ambiguous, open ended rhetorical questions and Pasha is gracious enough to waste everyone's time by reading out of his journal. Must listen content.
Mike and Pasha are joined by their first guest ever! Matt Shenker joins the conversation (apologies for the poor audio quality) to provide his expertise on growth. Matt is a counselor and consultant who runs his own business called TheMindfulnessCounselor (follow him on IG!)
The fellas talk about communities and the impact they have on our lives. How are we impacted by the people we are around? They then take a HARD turn and talk about some very.... uhh... "sensitive" content.
How do you know when is the right time to stop trying on a task? How much failure is necessary and natural to struggle through, and how much is a sign to pivot and move onto something else? Mike and Pasha dissect the last few things they've given up (see: every decision Mike has made since 2017)and debate ongoing items in their life to determine if they should leave it behind or keep on keeping on. NSFW (not safe for work); NSFYMH (not safe for your mental health)
Mike and Pasha talk about how they spend their time. They try to understand what their defaults are, revisit their goals, and attempt to realign how they spend their time to better achieve those goals. Along the way they realize they are mindless buffoons with a proclivity for meandering, wasting time, and having no idea how they ended up where they are. Maybe you can relate.
Love is in the air as Mike and Pasha figure out how to love themselves despite their reluctance. They challenge each other to complete an uplifting exercise and encourage the listeners to join them on the journey to worthiness.
Listen this week as Mike and Pasha tackle a topic we all experience but seldomly share by infusing a combination of awkward formality, inappropriately timed levity, and a myriad of personal anecdotes that make obvious exactly how unqualified they were to discuss this topic in the first place.
Pasha and Mike set their aim high this week. What is ambition? When does ambition turn into greed/ego? What is the upside of being rich and famous? Is there a point where we should stop climbing? Is there diminishing marginal return to ambitious pursuits? Do you have the ambition to listen?
Mike and I have officially entered the podcast arena. "Doing Life" is an excuse for two friends in different cities to get together once a week, catch up, and try to make sense of things we typically aren't qualified to answer. We happened to record that conversation if you'd like to listen in. Episode #1: Risk -- Why and how do we take risks? In the first episode, Mike and Pasha explore risks they have taken in their life, the fallout of those decisions, and realize there is a lot of room to grow (both us and the podcast).
