Since discovering intermittent fasting in 2020 through a WW community message board, she's reclaimed her health, shed 20 pounds, and found freedom from sugar addiction that haunted her for decades. Despite multiple attempts and setbacks, Belle's journey reveals a powerful truth: the key to lasting change is understanding your own body and making honest, sustainable choicesIn this episode, Belle shares how intermittent fasting transformed her relationship with food and her body. She discusses her long history with weight struggles, from childhood dieting to lap band surgery, and how fasting and giving up sugar finally broke her cycle. You'll discover how she navigates special occasions like cruises, manages cravings, and uses simple tricks—like parking further away or tracking her progress—to stay aligned with her health goals. Belle emphasizes the importance of tuning in to your body's signals, avoiding diet obsession, and crafting a personalized approach that works for YOU.Gin and Belle break down practical insights including her experiment of one—trying different strategies until she found what truly sticks—and how the "quietness" of fasting creates space for self-awareness and honest self-talk. If you've ever felt trapped in the cycle of dieting, or overwhelmed by how to finally get control over sugar cravings, this episode offers hope, clarity, and a reminder: your body's resilience is greater than you think. Belle's advice to new intermittent fasters is to be patient, listen to your body, and trust the process, as reclaiming your health isn't about perfection—it's about patience, listening, and gentle tweaks.Join Gin in the new Fast Feast Repeat app for The Grown-Up Year: 52 Weeks to Listen, Play, and Nourish, as well as a growing collection of intermittent fasting resources. He shares how a Christmas trip and a growing awareness of his health concerns pushed him to make a change at the start of 2024. What began as a few days of fasting in solidarity with his daughter's medical prep eventually led him to Gin Stephens' books, then into intermittent fasting. He began on Labor Day of 2024 with the 28-day Fast Start Day by Day book. He explains that the early days were hard, but having a day-by-day roadmap helped him stay committed when his old habits and fears about hunger tried to pull him back.As Richard kept going, he lost weight, moved through plateaus, and started uncovering the deeper reasons he had used food for comfort, celebration, and convenience. He talks openly about a lifelong pattern of oversized portions, family food traditions, and the mental tug of wanting to “finish what's on the plate,” and how fasting has helped him break that cycle. A CGM also gave him a powerful wake-up call, showing him how certain breads, buns, and sugary drinks spiked his glucose and left him crashing, while simpler meals with protein and vegetables kept him satisfied much longer.Richard's story becomes especially encouraging in the way fasting has changed how he lives, not just how he eats. The Narrows in Zion National Park is one of the most iconic hikes in the American West. We recently returned to the park to hike the Narrows for the third time, and it's been a while since we last talked about it on this podcast. Our first Narrows episode was episode 6, six years ago, so we figured it was time for an update. If you would like information about other activities in the park, check out the Substack article we published recently: Our 10 Favorite Things to Do in Zion National Park The Narrows is a section of Zion Canyon where the Virgin River carves its way through walls that rise over a thousand feet and push in on each other, sometimes as close as thirty feet apart. There's little trail in the traditional sense. The river is the trail for about sixty percent of the hike, which makes it one of the most unique walks anywhere. In this episode, we talk through the bottom-up route that starts at the end of the Riverside Walk at the far north end of the canyon's scenic road. It's a ten-mile round trip that needs no permit and no GPS; there's really no way to get lost on this hike. We share how long it took us, how deep the water got, and what it was like returning fourteen years after our first visit. We also discuss how much Zion has changed. Visitation has nearly doubled since 2010. We describe our experience catching the very first shuttle going up canyon at 7:00am on the day of our hike and the size of the crowds waiting in line with us. And because preparation makes or breaks this one, we cover what to wear, why neoprene socks were a game changer for us, the case for a hiking stick, and our honest take on whether to bring the kids. If you're planning to hike The Narrows, this episode is for you, with practical tips throughout to help you make the most of your day in the river. A couple more helpful links: Here you can find out the current conditions and flow rates for the North Fork of the Virgin River. The most valuable thing you can build into your firm is its ability to run without you. In this AMMA episode of The Game Changing Attorney Podcast, Michael and Jessica Mogill answer the questions most firm owners put off until it's too late. When should you really start succession planning? How do you pick a successor without letting loyalty override the right call? And how do you build something worth more than the income it generates while you're in it? Michael makes the case that a firm dependent on its owner is a firm that's quietly losing value, and he lays out what it takes to change that. Plus, he kicks things off with his favorite recent movies, shows, and books. Here's what you'll learn: Why succession planning should start at least five years out, and what happens when you wait until your back's against the wall How to separate the discomfort of a hard conversation from the decision that's actually right for the business What it takes to turn your firm into an asset that grows whether or not you show up If something happened to you tomorrow, would your firm survive without you? In this episode of the No More Wasted Days podcast, Sara talks about how so much of her drinking was rooted in habit, and how learning to change those habits helped her build an alcohol-free life. Inspired by James Clear's book Atomic Habits, this episode explores why quitting drinking is not just about one big decision. It is about creating small, repeatable systems that support the person you are becoming. Sara shares how daily gratitude, affirmations, new routines, and identity-based habits helped her move away from drinking and start seeing herself as someone who simply does not drink. She also breaks down James Clear's four laws of behavior change and shows how to use them to build alcohol-free habits while making drinking less automatic, less appealing, and harder to return to. If you have ever felt stuck in the same drinking patterns, this episode will help you see that change does not have to happen overnight. Small choices, repeated consistently, can completely shift your life. In this episode, you'll hear about: Why alcohol can feel more like a habit than an addiction for many people How small daily actions compound over time Why your systems matter more than willpower How to start seeing yourself as a non-drinker Simple habit swaps for the hardest craving windows How to use James Clear's four laws of behavior change in your alcohol-free journey   Resources and Links: Join the Day Makers Community Looking for alcohol-free support, weekly group coaching calls, and a private community of like-minded alcohol-free badasses? She first heard about intermittent fasting in 2022 when she was working as a nutrition coach and one of her clients mentioned it to her. From that point on, she was an intermittent fasting dabbler. Finally, in October of 2024, she decided to stop dabbling and fully commit. Gin's phrase “Saturday is not a special occasion…it happens every week” spoke to her, and she knew it was time. Because of her long and varied diet history, Dee has stopped weighing herself. Instead, she goes by how she feels and the fit of her clothes. She is currently living her goal lifestyle, and feels good wearing a size 8 in pants. Dee is a self-described “logical vegan,” and she focuses on getting in nutrients from a wide variety of plant foods. One of her biggest non-scale victories is that she is no longer an emotional binge eater. She no longer has skin tags, which indicates that she has improved her insulin resistance. At the end of the episode, Dee reminds new IFers that Saturday is not a special occasion, and that they should explore all of Gin's resources, including the book 28-Day Fast Start Day by Day, which is a great way to get started on your IF journey.Join Gin in the new Fast Feast Repeat app for The Grown-Up Year: 52 Weeks to Listen, Play, and Nourish, as well as a growing collection of intermittent fasting resources. Curating a Beautiful Life with Alisa Barry, (Replay)

Some conversations are so good they deserve a second life. This is one of them. I recorded this with Alisa Barry back in episode 20 — and I still think about it. Alisa is one of the few people I know who has truly, successfully built a beautiful life on purpose. Not as an aesthetic — as a practice. She started a café in Atlanta in the early 90s because she loved food and beautiful things and eating as a ritual. That café became Bella Cucina Artful Food — an artisan brand that's been in Oprah's Favorite Things twice, carried in specialty stores around the world, and built entirely on the idea that what's on your table matters. She's also a Japanese ink artist with a 25-year private meditation practice. A curator of objects sourced from around the globe. Someone who picks and chooses — products, people, design, art — specifically to illuminate and elevate your life. In this conversation we go deep on devotion as a discipline. On what it took for her to claim herself as an artist after years of being known as a business owner. On the simple, powerful daily practices that brought her back to herself when her business started feeling like something she had to do instead of something she loved. She does things in such a potent, spacious, simple way. You'll leave this one inspired — and probably a little more chaotic than you wish you were. Which, same. 3 Things You'll Take Away: Devotion as discipline. When Alisa burned out, instead of pushing harder, she came back to simple daily practices that grounded her day and reconnected her to what was beautiful and important. This is what sustainable looks like.Claiming yourself as an artist. Even when the world knows you as something else. Even when you didn't go to school for it. Alisa talks about what it took to step into that identity and how it helped her feel whole. How to curate a beautiful life on purpose. Not as a luxury. As a daily choice. What you put on your table, how you begin your day, what you let in, it all adds up to something. This episode shows you what that can look like. ⏰ Timestamps (00:00) Why I'm bringing this one back — and what the peonies have to do with it (05:00) The Eggplant Lady origin story (09:00) How she ran a busy business and still lived slowly (13:00) Burning out — and the artist retreat that changed everything (17:00) Claiming yourself as an artist even when you don't feel like one (20:00) Curation as a way of life (23:00) Morning pages and what they revealed (28:00) Devotion as discipline — the rituals that hold everything together (35:00) Beauty as a daily practice (45:00) Leading with curiosity (55:00) What it means to curate a beautiful life on purpose

Her introduction to intermittent fasting came as a relief, offering a sustainable way to manage her weight without the constant stress of dieting. Christina emphasizes the importance of finding a balance that works for her lifestyle, incorporating activities she loves, like golf and tennis, into her routine. As the conversation wraps up, Christina offers valuable advice to those new to intermittent fasting. She stresses the importance of starting slow and gradually reducing the eating window, rather than diving in too quickly, as she initially did. Christina also highlights the significance of community support, encouraging new intermittent fasters to engage with supportive groups that promote clean fasting practices. Her final piece of advice is to embrace the journey, acknowledging that while some days may be challenging, the benefits of intermittent fasting far outweigh the difficulties.
