Welcome back to Farm to Market: a podcast about farmers and the people who love them.We are so happy to be back with our second episode, which is a very special episode indeed.Today's conversation is in celebration of National Farmers Market Week. This is an incredibly important time for Farmers' Markets around the country as we collectively celebrate the entire farmers' market industry: from market managers to volunteers, to the farmers themselves. At the Minneapolis Farmers Market, we've been pulling out all the stops to make this an unforgettable week for our customers and our vendors. To help us celebrate the occasion, we brought on two voices who are crucial to the local farming community here in Minnesota: Jesse Preiner and Thom Petersen.Jesse owns the Trout Monger, which is a trout farming business in Columbus, Minnesota. He tends to keep busy since he's also the mayor of Columbus. Our other guest, Thom Petersen, serves as Commissioner for the Minnesota Department of Agriculture. Throughout his life, Thom has worked tirelessly to unite political and agricultural action. Oh, and he's a horse farmer too – he's cared for over 60 horses in his lifetime. These two individuals have dedicated much of their lives to supporting farmers and, today, they have quite a bit to share.National Farmers Market Week is a time of celebration, but it is also a time of reflection. What is going right in the industry? What is going wrong? How can we work together to create better systems for farmers to thrive? We may not have all the answers, but we're bold enough to ask the questions.-Jesse is a prominent vendor at the Minneapolis Farmers Market, and you can learn more about him and his business here.Follow us on Instagram and please visit our website if you'd like to learn more about our organization. If you appreciate this podcast and/or our market, please consider making a donation.--Produced by Gleam Tower Media. All music courtesy of Artlist.
