In this lecture students will be presented with the philosophical underpinnings of sport. We will look at concepts from Jungian and Lingian gymnastic philosophies through the ages to the fitness and wellness movement of today. We will examine issues of sport including competition and develop an understanding about the different purposes of understanding sport culture. Finally students will be presented with a conceptualisation of sport aesthetics.
In this episode students will be introduced to the pedagogical approaches to games centred teaching (TgFU, Games Sense and Play Practice). Students will become familiar with differing roles of the teacher and student in this model and understand the pedagogical principles associated with GCA. Students will also be presented with some working models (Rinks approaches to GCA) useful for physical education environments.
In this episode, students will be introduced to the concepts of play, including how play is defined by Caillois, examine shallow and deep play through Kretchmar's conceptualisation, before being presented with the concepts of Play Practice, Games Sense and Teaching Games for Understanding.
