Due to the coronavirus and school closures, we covered the last two chapters of Hebrews in a single lesson! 

In this lesson we look at one of the most famous chapters in the Bible, Heb. 11, the "Hall of Faith." The author of Hebrews wants to show us by example what true faith is and how it is lived out.

In this lesson we see the author of Hebrews change course somewhat. After spending ten and a half chapters engaged in theological exposition, he now turns to application: how now should we live in light of these truths? In Heb. 10:19-39, he begins with an exhortation to draw near but then offers a serious and sober warning.

Today's lesson focuses on Heb. 10:1-18. The author of Hebrews wraps up his exploration of the superiority of Christ in this chapter and will then turn to the application of these glorious truths in the final chapters of the letter. We discuss the Incarnation of Christ and why it is crucial to the sufficiency of Christ's work on our behalf.

Today's lesson covers Heb. 9:15-18. We discuss many familiar themes as the author continues to assert the superiority of Jesus' sacrifice. It is appointed for us all to die and after that comes judgment; where then is our hope and our security? It is in the once-for-all sacrifice of Christ who put away sin forever, glory to God!

In Heb. 9:1-14, the author turns to the physical aspects of the tabernacle itself, showing Jesus's sacrifice as superior, concluding that the blood of Christ is "able to purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God"--what good news!

In Heb. 8, the author continues his assertion of the superiority of Jesus, declaring that this high priest is "seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven." His ministry is "much more excellent" and w explore why!

In Heb. 7:18-28 the author continues his argument for the superiority of Jesus and His eternal priesthood. It is indeed fitting that we have such a high priest!

We resume our study of Hebrews by discussing Heb. 7:1-17 and the mysterious figure of Melchizedek. Who was he and what does it mean that Jesus is a priest after the order of Melchizedek and does it make any difference in our lives?

Heb. 5:11-6:20 contain some of the most difficult passages of Scripture. The author issues an indictment as well as a warning about the dangers of immaturity in the faith.

In Heb. 4:14-5:10, the author of Hebrews returns to the theme of Jesus as our great high priest. He contrasts the priesthood of Christ with that of the OT sacrificial system and encourages his readers to draw near to throne of grace.

In Heb. 4:1-13, the author continues his exhortation he began in chapter 3 about the danger of hardening your heart in disbelief. The consequence? Failure to enter the rest of God. We will finish up our lesson discussing the living and active Word of God--such an appropriate text the Tuesday before Reformation Day!

Today's lesson from Heb. 3:7-19 warns of hard heartedness, using the example of the Israelites in the wilderness as a sober reminder of hard hearts leading to rebellion and disobedience. The author warns his readers to take care and to exhort one another daily as we hold fast to our original confession.

In Heb. 3:1-6, the author commands his readers to "consider Jesus." In order to demonstrate the faithfulness of Jesus and the worthiness of Jesus to receive more glory, he contrasts Jesus and Moses, showing once again the superiority of Christ. 

In Heb. 2:10-18, the author emphasizes Jesus' Incarnation, asserting that as One who is flesh and blood just like we are, He is therefore the perfect High Priest. As our High Priest, He is able to help because He knows and understands our struggles. 

Today's lesson covers Heb. 2:1-9, the first of several warnings in the book regarding the danger of falling away from the faith. Once again the author will turn our attention to the superiority of Jesus and the great salvation He offers.

In 1:4-15, the author of Hebrews contrasts Jesus with angels, using Old Testament texts to demonstrate that Jesus is superior. While we aren't necessarily tempted to worship angels over Jesus, we will find it helpful and encouraging to fix our eyes on Jesus, the one true Son, the only One worthy of worship, the eternal, unchanging King of Kings.

We begin our study of Hebrews by looking at the who, what, when, where, why of the book. We also discuss the supremacy of Jesus in 1:1-4.

We close out our study of Acts by discussing the final chapter, Acts 28. In this chapter, Paul finally reaches Rome and as is his usual practice, engages the Jewish leaders by proclaiming and proving that Jesus is the Christ. The book ends rather abruptly, a reminder for us that the mission goes on.

Acts 27 contains one of the most exciting episodes in the book of Acts. This chapter highlights God's power and provision as well as His faithfulness to keep His promises.
