An hour (or so) of laughter and insight from new tabletop publisher Motor City Gameworks.
After a looooong break, the MCG guys return with a vengeance to boast and crow about their triumphs at Gen Con 2024. All things River Valley Glassworks, full food truck reviews, and some con purchases--as well as a full discussion of more projects that are coming--listen to how MCG won Gen Con!
In this long-awaited episode the MCG gang discusses French Quarter fulfillment, upcoming releases in 2024, the best uses of eggs, and Adam flips the script and has Ben and Matt try blind ranking a few things. Enjoy the laughs.
The MCG team discusses Motor City wrap up and reception as well as the launch of the new Kickstarter for French Quarter. Along the way, there is also discussion about Unpub main and mini, air frying, as well as our favorite non-gaming hobbies. And Matt owes a dollar to the swear jar. Enjoy!
We are not a food podcast. Special shoutout to Kevin Ngo from Canada for the box of snacks and goodies he sent to us, which we tried on air. Those Coffee Crisps were a winner! (You can keep the ketchup chips, though.) We talk Motor City fulfillment, look forward to French Quarter, and share some highlights from the Nerd Fest 2023 in Wixom, MI.
A super special episode from MotorCityCon 2022 (which is really just a weekend of games with MCG family and friends) featuring two special guests: Dan "the Geek Allstar" Patriss and the number one fleeple fan, Chris Mosley. The gang talks MCG updates and MotorCityCon gaming. Then we prove once again that we are "not a food podcast" by trying and ranking some Little Debbie snacks and ranking our favorite pies. Happy Thanksgiving.
We are not a food podcast, we swear. But... the MCG crew was sent a care package from our friends down under on the BoardGameBBQ podcast, complete with all sorts of Australian favorites. Join us for this longer than usual, and weirder than usual jaunt through board games, video games, random stories, and so many Aussie snacks. But really, we are not a food podcast.
The MCG gang gives updates on their latest projects and talks about how their summers ended. Matt gets some grief for some wedding apparel choices, Adam has to figure out the worst places to take the kids, and then they all determine the best tasting lays potato chips.
The MCG gang provides some brief updates on the status of Three Sisters and Motor City and looks ahead to what is next on the horizon, and then spends the majority of the time on the important stuff: Adam's whirlwind trip to Origins Game Fair, ranking Adam Sandler movies, and taste-testing Pringles.
The MCG crew discusses another successful KS campaign, while being transparent about what we are still learning. In addition, we share some great news about Durango being signed by a publisher we cannot name yet. After the business portion, a lively debate ensues as we talk appetizers, then Ben and Matt compete to see who knows the least grunge music.
Almost one year to the date from our podcast launch, and just hours before our second project launch, the MCG guys talk all things Motor City, reflect on what we've learned in our first year as publishers, and then get interrupted by real life. Matt goes 2 for 4 on great lines, and Ben brings it home with more air fryer discussion that is worth the wait. Enjoy this mini-episode, and be sure to go back Motor City!
The MCG crew welcomes in 2022 celebrating the delivery of Three Sisters to backers. We discuss surprises and educational moments along the way through this first project, as well as discuss our next project Motor City which launches in March. Adam has some world record dramatic pauses (which is not the best radio, he admits), Ben continues to argue that mini-cheesecakes are a cookie (they are not), and Matt is still super bad at geography. Enjoy the laughs.
This blockbuster 90-minute podcast features the MCG team and our first special guest ever: Kevin Crowther. We open with some reflections on the tragedy in Oxford, which hit very close to home. Kevin discusses his game design classes he teaches at a local high school. Then we talk Three Sisters boats, and discuss a couple of games we like and one or two we didn't, as well as the point of vacations. We celebrate the holidays with an incredible "top 3" list of Christmas cookies. It might be our best top 3 ever. (For the record: Ben's top 3 cookies are not cookies.)
In this blockbuster episode the MCG gang makes up for lost time providing updates on all things Three Sisters and Motor City, as well as some reflections on the inaugural MotorCityCon and all the games that they played over that incredible weekend. There is a pretty decent discussion of some popular sitcoms and fantasy football toward the end. And don't think that we are done with air fryers!
On the business front, the MCG gang, and Matt in particular, discusses shipping rates and complications as Three Sisters gets close to getting loaded onto boats. We also discuss the changing landscape of small publishers in the wake of 2020. Then the crew discusses some games we have played lately, and why Flat Out Games has a near perfect record. In a surprise twist, Adam does not completely blow his top three opportunity.
This mega episode provides the latest about Three Sisters and an introduction to our new MCG merch that all the coolest kids are wearing these days. Matt reveals his complete disregard for geography, Adam talks pizza toppings, and Ben calls out Chili's for making corn on the cob that tastes like it was cooked in your armpit. Worth a listen for sure.
The MCG team discuss the latest news about Three Sisters, vaccines, and the return of game nights. Matt reveals something shameful: that he loves Miracle Whip. Ben continues to praise the air fryer. Adam is put on the spot with another surprise top 3. Game business + 3 Idiots + Random Fun = The MCG Podcast.
Ben, Matt, & Adam discuss the successful kickstarter campaign for Three Sisters, form a mutual admiration society, pull back the curtain and talk about upcoming projects for MCG, and also discuss a few other projects they are working on. But they really hit their stride when discussing music, air fryers, and what they've been playing lately.
Meet the MCG team--Ben, Matt, & Adam--and find out more about why they founded MCG, what to expect, and what they are looking forward to and learning.
