“Queens Table Talk” is a dynamic podcast dedicated to empowering black millennial women. By giving a voice to women's’ often internalized feelings, we have created a safe space without fear of judgement or ridicule.
In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, we are checking in on our own mental health with Marriage and Family Therapist, Donika Brown. Oftentimes, therapy is not something that is encouraged in the Black community for various reasons, such as affordability and the fear of airing out our “dirty laundry”. However, Donika is giving us a deeper look into therapy by discussing how one can afford it, what questions to ask and how it can be used a tool to help cope with hurt and trauma. But first, we are tipping our crowns to some Queens that are inspiring us this week : Tanya Sam - Director of Partnerships at TechSquare Labs & “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Jackie Aina - Professional Make-up artist & beauty YouTuber Claressa Shields - Professional boxer & female middleweight champion If you like what you hear, feel free to leave a review and invite the Queens in your life to listen as well! Knowledge is power. Ignorance is raggedy. Dialogue about diversity is healthy! Intolerance of social groups usually stems from our lack of education and conversation. This week, we are discussing homophobia within the Black community along with community organizer, Lance Lowe. Tune in as he educates us about the LGBTQIA+ community and his experience with being an openly queer black man. But first, we are tipping our crowns to some queens who are breaking barriers as the FIRST in their respective fields….. Peggy Alford - First Black woman nominated to serve on the board of directors at Facebook Mandisa Mfeka - South Africa’s first Black female combat pilot Vicki Chancellor - First Black woman to serve as Chair of the McDonald’s Operator’s National Advertising Fund (OPNAD) If you like what you hear, feel free to leave a review and invite the Queens in your life to listen as well! Mo has had her fair share of dating woes, but wait until you hear this one... After a guy asked her out on a date, he stood her up then called her to tell her it was because he took someone else out on a date (We can't make this up!). Not only did he tell her that, but he told her that she should still consider letting him take her out because he was "honest" about it. But Mo is here to let you know that telling the truth does not exonerate you from being trash! Join us as we dive into a discussion about purposeful dating, relationship wants & needs, and some of the struggles that come with dating after being single for a long time. Effie has always loved her birthday, but felt like celebrating it was a burden to others. This year, she decided to go big and found that her friends would back her up if she wanted to be a little "extra". This week, she's ranting about why you should never feel bad for having a celebration and how to use every birthday as an opportunity for growth.
