4ocean has removed more than 50 million pounds of plastic and trash from the world's oceans, rivers, and coastlines. That milestone did not come from a government program or a traditional nonprofit. It came from a for-profit business built around a single idea: every bracelet sold funds the removal of a pound of ocean trash. In this episode, Andrew breaks down how 4ocean went from one viral video in Bali to a global cleanup operation, why founders Alex Schulze and Andrew Cooper chose a business model over a nonprofit, and how the company built local jobs, recycling infrastructure, and B Corp accountability into its growth. He also digs into the harder questions worth asking about any cleanup business, including the tension between extraction and prevention, the tradeoff of turning recycled ocean plastic into apparel, and why independently audited impact numbers matter more than self reported totals. Whether you're building a career in ocean conservation, running a sustainability focused business, or just curious how a bracelet company ended up pulling 50 million pounds of trash out of the water, this episode gives you a clear look at what works, what's still unresolved, and what to look for the next time you're deciding where to put your money. Takeaways: 4ocean was founded in 2017 by Alex Schulze and Andrew Cooper after they saw plastic pollution overwhelming the water while surfing in Bali The company has removed more than 50 million pounds of plastic and trash from oceans, rivers, and coastlines as of February 2026 Every product sold ties directly to a measurable outcome, which makes the impact tangible for consumers 4ocean is a certified B Corp that hires and pays local workers in the regions where it operates, including Bali and Haiti The company is launching an Impact Dashboard in 2026 to give corporate partners traceable, verifiable insight into their funded impact Extraction models like 4ocean's remove existing trash, but prevention policies are still needed to stop plastic from entering waterways in the first place When evaluating any cleanup organization, look for independently audited impact numbers rather than self reported totals Support Independent Podcasts: https://www.speakupforblue.com/patreon Need help with your ocean non-profit, company, or project? Wrestling with your kids. Trash-talking during a pickup game. Screaming through a game of tag. On paper, those look like danger cues, so why do they feel so good? Play is what happens when your safety state and your fight-or-flight mobility switch on at the same time. Here's what's actually happening in your nervous system when you play, why the game changes the moment it moves from the living room to online voice chat, and what it looks like when a kid mobilizes with no safety behind it at all.

After investigators identified Bryan Kohberger as a suspect, law enforcement began surveilling his parents' home in Pennsylvania and arranged a nighttime “trash pull” to obtain family DNA. Agents retrieved garbage that had been placed at the curb for collection and sent it to the Idaho State Police laboratory. A Q-tip recovered from the trash contained DNA that was identified as belonging to the biological father of the man whose DNA had been found on the knife sheath beside Madison Mogen's body. That familial match strengthened investigators' case and helped provide the basis for Kohberger's arrest on December 30, 2022.During the surveillance, Kohberger was reportedly seen wearing surgical-style rubber gloves on multiple occasions, meticulously cleaning his white Hyundai Elantra and leaving the house at approximately 4 a.m. to place bags of trash in a neighbor's garbage bin. Investigators later recovered those bags as well. When police entered the home to arrest him, Kohberger was allegedly awake in the kitchen wearing latex gloves and separating his personal garbage into individual plastic bags. The behavior did not independently prove his guilt, but prosecutors presented it as evidence that he had been taking unusual precautions to prevent investigators from obtaining his DNA or potentially incriminating material.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-moscow-murders-and-more--5852883/support.
What if the setback that feels like the end is actually the opening you needed? In this Fail Forward episode, Aaron Boone, CEO and owner of MVP Mailhouse, shares how being cut from an NFL Europe roster almost ended his football career until one unexpected call put him back on the plane and eventually led him to become team captain, lead the league in touchdowns, and win the World Bowl. He connects that same “control the controllables” mindset to business, from navigating COVID's impact on direct mail to walking away from a costly website expansion because it wasn't what his team did best. For dental practice owners and leaders, Aaron's story is a clear reminder that focus, systems, and knowing your lane can be more powerful than chasing every new opportunity.Listen now for a quick dose of perspective on resilience, leadership, and the power of staying focused on what you do best.Listen to Aaron's Other Episodes Here:374: Aaron Boone | Bad Experience With Direct Mailers? The gang welcomed Mark Condon to the program for a fun, nostalgic midweek episode filled with great conversation and plenty of laughs. A familiar face within the Trash community and a friend of Brad and Jennifer, Mark stepped up to the plate, swung and connected. Deep to left center, gone. He resonated as he shared his personal struggles, hard-earned victories, and the perspective he's gained along the way. Reflecting on his journey, Mark discussed how even life's toughest moments can lead to growth and gratitude. A true head-down, get-to-work kind of guy, he fit right in with the crew and quickly became part of the team. With the boys bringing plenty of energy, this one turned into a memorable and entertaining episode reminding us that, no matter how different we all seem, the story remains the same. This week on Science Faction, life milestones collide with pop culture as Ben celebrates finally paying off over two decades of student loans while Devon contemplates a lifetime of payments. The crew also dives into Star Trek, Mothership, San Diego Comic-Con reveals, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Cowboy Bebop, and an unexpectedly deep rabbit hole exploring the technology behind the original Jurassic Park. As always, it's a mix of real life, science fiction, and everything wonderfully nerdy in between. Real Life Ben reached a major milestone this week by finally paying off his student loans after 21 years. It's the kind of accomplishment that deserves a celebration, especially considering how many people are still carrying student debt decades after graduating. Devon balanced out the optimism by joking that he's probably never going to finish paying his off. Steven has been spending time with Mothership: Wages of Sin, another adventure for the acclaimed sci-fi horror RPG. If you're interested in checking it out, you can find it here: https://www.tuesdayknightgames.com/collections/mothership Ben also finds himself in an unfamiliar situation: waiting on absolutely nothing. Instead, he talked about his latest favorite gadget, the Clicks Keyboard for smartphones: https://www.clicks.tech/powerkeyboard The Star Trek discussion continued with Star Trek: Axanar – The Gathering Storm, where Faran Tahir's appearance was a welcome surprise. You can watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFpTiIHNTJ0&pp=ygUGYXhhbmFy That naturally led into Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4's episode Valles Marineris, which managed to answer the timeless question: What if Star Trek had dinosaurs? The crew discusses whether that's exactly what Trek needed—or never knew it needed. https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Valles_Marineris_(episode) Future or Now San Diego Comic-Con brought plenty of announcements to unpack, including new reveals surrounding Avengers: Doomsday, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Jean-Pool, and the surprise pairing of Ghost Rider and Starfighter. Ryan Reynolds continues to find creative ways to keep Deadpool in the spotlight. https://entertainmentnow.com/marvel-studios-movies-comics/ryan-reynolds-sdcc-deadpool/ Ben also rounds up several pieces of Avatar: The Last Airbender news, including the upcoming animated Aang film and the newly announced sequel series, Avatar: Seven Havens. https://www.inverse.com/entertainment/avatar-aang-the-last-airbender-in-theaters https://www.inverse.com/entertainment/avatar-seven-havens-release-date-revealed After finally finishing the original Cowboy Bebop anime and its movie, Ben shares his thoughts on why the series has remained such a classic for nearly three decades. The conversation then shifts into one of the nerdiest rabbit holes imaginable: a painstaking technical breakdown of every computer seen in the original Jurassic Park. It's a fascinating look at how the filmmakers blended real hardware with Hollywood magic. https://fabiensanglard.net/jurrasic_park_computers/index.html That naturally prompts Devon to shout, "SAM NEILL DIED! LET'S TALK ABOUT IT!" before everyone remembers they're actually talking about his characters. The discussion quickly turns into a debate over Sam Neill's best science fiction performance. Is it the cosmic horror masterpiece Event Horizon (1997), or the vampire thriller Daybreakers (2009)? To wrap things up, the crew also highlights Jurassic Systems, a fan project dedicated to faithfully recreating the iconic computer interfaces from Jurassic Park. https://www.jurassicsystems.com/ As always, expect plenty of tangents, questionable opinions, and passionate debates about dinosaurs, spaceships, anime, and why fictional operating systems from 1993 still look cooler than the ones we use today.

In this episode of Sustainability in Progress, we sit down with Albert Douer, CEO of UBQ Materials, to unpack how household garbage gets converted into a material that can replace plastic in manufacturing. Albert draws on 40+ years in the plastics and materials industry to explain why traditional recycling can only solve part of the waste problem, and how UBQ's process instead breaks down organic waste at a molecular level to create something entirely new. We discuss what a "negative carbon footprint" actually means in practice, why global adoption has been slower than expected, and what it would take to scale this technology into a true alternative to landfills and incinerators.
In this episode of the Smells Like Money podcast, host Suzan Chin Taylor sits down with John "Grizz" Deal, CEO of IX Water, to discuss the growing crisis surrounding PFAS forever chemicals and produced water. They explore the regulatory landscape, the economic incentives needed to shift industry behavior, and the practical, scalable technologies required to protect our water supply before scarcity drives costs to extreme levels. Key Discussion Points:- The PFAS Dilemma: Trap and Destroy:The regulations for PFAS forever chemicals are emerging at the local community level before flowing up to federal agencies. Rather than trying to break down these incredibly strong chemical bonds at every individual water source, a more viable approach involves trapping the compounds locally. Using a highly affordable proprietary media to concentrate the contaminants allows the concentrated waste to be transported to a centralized destruction facility. This localized trapping combined with centralized destruction keeps capital infrastructure costs low while safely neutralizing the danger.- Rethinking the Produced Water Crisis:Oil and gas extraction brings up massive volumes of formation water, commonly known as produced water. Traditional disposal wells are reaching capacity, causing increased back pressure and even geological shifting in some regions. While political and educational hurdles have slowed progress, treating this water for beneficial reuse in agriculture or hydraulic fracturing is essential to preserving fresh water supplies, particularly in drought prone areas like the American Southwest.- Economics Drive Industry Adaptation:Infrastructure changes slowly, but economic incentives are the fastest way to alter industrial behavior. Companies are far more likely to adopt recycling technologies when presented with substantial operational savings. IX Water addresses this by bypassing traditional sales approaches and using engineers to deploy scalable systems that significantly lower the total cost of water treatment.Connect with John "Grizz" Deal:CEO ~ IX WaterContact: grizz@ixpower.comLinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/coloradogrizzWebsite: ixwater.comI hope you find this episode as informative and as exciting as we have. Please let us know your thoughts about the episode!Connect with Suzan Chin-Taylor, host of The DooDoo Diva's Smells Like Money Podcast:Website: www.creativeraven.com | https://thetuitgroup.com/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/creativeraven/Email: raven@creativeraven.com Telephone: +1 760-217-8010Listen and subscribe here to your favorite platform:Apple Podcast - Google Podcast - Cast Box - Overcast - Pocket Casts - YouTube - Spotifyhttps://creativeraven.com/smells-like-money-podcast/ Subscribe to the Podcast:https://creativeraven.com/smells-like-money-podcast/Be a guest on our show:https://calendly.com/thetuitgroup/be-a-podcast-guestCheck Out my NEW Digital Marketing E-Course & Coaching Program just for Wastewater Pros:https://store.thetuitgroup.com/diy-digital-marketing-playbook-for-wastewater-pros#WastewaterTreatment #PFAS #ProducedWater #WaterSustainability #EcoTech #IndustrialWastewater #EnvironmentalRegulation #WaterReuse #GreenInnovation #SmellsLikeMoneyPodcast

He talks about being thrifty - not like cheap, but about putting value on the effort made. He talks about simplifying our lives and homes being an act of rebellion (love that word!), and says that small, consistent actions have big results.Cameron offers an efficiency bonus for his employees, because just filling a dumpster is not preferred; he prefers repurposing or reusing, to keep things in circulation. In fact, his whole office is thrifted - he said he spent maybe $1000 for everything in the office. He also trains his employees in patience and encourages them to listen to their clients, knowing that some people will struggle with letting go of things. And his company gives back. Started during Covid, this still young company is giving a percentage of all profits to the International Cancer Foundation. They also have a space where they store some of the stuff they've taken from homes/offices to resale or donate to people who need it.A phrase Cameron said has stuck with me is " Junk is a verb, not a noun." Just think on that for a moment. I love the heart behind Trash and Stash so much - a desperately needed service, and offered with a kindness that is often lacking in that field.Find Trash and Stash here: https://www.trashandstash.com/They're on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/trashandstash And Instagram here: https://www.instagram.com/yourlocaltrashandstash/Send me a message!Support the showLike this episode? Hour 3 of Jeremy and Joe! Is there a contract you would support Jim Crane giving Jeremy Pena? Sark & Texas have a point about tough non-conference games, or are they being soft? Plus Cash or Trash, and they named the Junkie of the Day!
Tonight, Talkin' Trash welcomed Dustin B. into the mix with the usual Trash fashion. Dustin was a great sport and shared his story with us as he approaches an incredible milestone—eight years clean and serene in just a few days. We took the opportunity to pump his tires a little and celebrate the hard work, perseverance, and growth that got him there. The outdoor ambience was dialed back this time, but Dustin proved a little tough to hear in spots, so we cranked his audio up as much as possible while Tim's heavy breathing continued its quest to become the show's unofficial fifth host. As always, the Talkin' Trash crew forges ahead in mediocrity twice a week with the same low expectations we've proudly maintained from the start, which is why the recent influx of new family members and supporters has been such a fun surprise. Thanks for sticking with us as we grow—we're working behind the scenes to make things better every step of the way.
