Alabama Football is finally back, and one of the most intriguing players to watch Saturday is five-star freshman running back EJ Crowell. Could the talented newcomer eventually become the Crimson Tide's next great running back in the mold of Damien Harris or Josh Jacobs? Alabama has been searching for another game-changing presence in the backfield after several seasons without the dominant rushing attacks fans became accustomed to during the Nick Saban era. Crowell brings the size, explosiveness and recruiting pedigree to potentially change that — but how quickly can he make an impact alongside Daniel Hill, Kevin Riley, AK Dear and Trae'shawn Brown? We're also playing SEC Buy or Sell, breaking down expectations for some of the biggest programs in the conference entering the season. Our daily 4 Downs presented by Central Alabama Asphalt! One question keeps cutting through the noise for us: what do you want the most? Not the answer you know you're supposed to give, but the one your life proves through what you cling to, defend, and keep making room for. If you've felt spiritually distracted, emotionally full, or like you can't quite experience God's presence the way you want, this conversation brings it back to something deeper than behavior. It brings it back to desire. In this final episode of the "TRASH IT!" conversation collection, we talk about how “holy housekeeping” is more than cleaning up habits. It's spiritual decluttering for the heart: noticing what we take in, what we repeat, what we carry, and the narratives we keep believing. We reflect on Philippians 3:7-8, where Paul calls everything else garbage compared to knowing Christ, and we explore why this isn't about forced sacrifice or earning approval. It's about making space to see God clearly so everything else can find its proper place or be released. We also lean on Psalm 27:4 and the idea of a "one thing" life. Choosing Jesus as our central desire doesn't make everything easier, but it makes everything clearer, because we stop crowding our vision with what we have to justify, compromise for, or keep pulling back out of the trash. We close with the reminder that Seek Him leads to Speak Him, creating room not only for God, but for the people He's entrusted to us. The conversation guide that goes along with this episode is found in the Family Disciple Me app!______________________The Family Disciple Me ministry exists to catalyze devotion driven discipleship in our homes and around the world. What if “take out the trash” is the most freeing spiritual practice you try this year? In this episode, we turn a familiar household chore into a vivid, practical metaphor for discipleship, using Ephesians 4:22–23 as our anchor: throw off what doesn't belong and let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Instead of organizing our clutter, we talk about removing it—clearing space for God's new work in a new season. We walk through the difference between obvious sin and subtle weights that still slow us down, drawing on Hebrews 12:1 to name what hinders our race. From there, we lay out four honest categories that shape the weeks ahead: unhealthy inputs we consume, unhelpful habits that drain focus, ungodly emotions we've stored rather than surrendered, and false narratives that distort how we see God, ourselves, and others. Each theme begins with Scripture, moves to simple questions—what, why, how—and ends with small steps of obedience that make room for renewal. This is devotion-driven discipleship in everyday language: seek God personally, speak about him intentionally, and lead those entrusted to you without handing them a to-do list. You'll hear a gentle, clear invitation: when the Spirit puts a finger on what needs to go, “trash it,” and let Him transform what remains. Ready to start the year with less weight and more freedom? Listen, share with a friend, and spend some time HERE in the devotion-driven discipleship guide. ______________________The Family Disciple Me ministry exists to catalyze devotion driven discipleship in our homes and around the world. #357 | What Wild Birds Teach a Pointing Dog with Mark Payton

    Project Upland Podcast

Wild bird contacts can shape a pointing dog in ways a training setup cannot. Mark Payton joins Nick to talk about first seasons, launchers, steadiness, and letting birds teach. Mark is the author of Favorite Ways to Train Your Bird Dog and a longtime bird hunter who has worked dogs for the public for about 15 years. He returns to the podcast for a listener-question episode built around developing young dogs, carrying yard work into new places, and recognizing what a dog is saying before adding more pressure. I have a new setter pup at my feet this season, so this one landed at the right time. We talk about how little formal work a young pointing dog may need before its first fall, what early wild-bird opportunity can open up, and why a puppy's light-bulb moment tends to stick with the person holding the gun. Mark remembers Izzy pointing a quail single before she was six months old. With another dog, he went into the field with a puppy and came out with a bird dog. The conversation also gets practical. Mark explains his wooden backing silhouette, his use of remote launchers, the difference between steady to flush and steady through the fall, and why he treats a launcher as a stand-in for a wild bird rather than a machine for making a dog point. His recurring question is a useful one: what would a wild bird do? Later, we get into whoa posts, flank collars, relocation, gun introduction, e-collar timing, trash breaking, retrieving, and the limited role of a wing on a string. The larger idea stays simple. Build the dog's love for birds, give it meaningful opportunity, and pay attention to the small signals along the way. Chapters 00:00 Let the wild bird teach the dog 02:37 Short bird dog training sessions and consistency 04:58 Mark Payton's bird dog background 11:33 How much training does a young pointing dog need? 21:47 Letting the dog and bird work it out 22:14 A young bird dog's first hunting season 28:24 Building bird drive in a hesitant puppy 31:02 Developing range and independence 33:26 Teaching backing with a wooden silhouette 43:16 Helping dogs generalize training in new places 46:05 E-collar timing and command reinforcement 48:58 When a young dog catches a training bird 50:37 Using a launcher like a wild bird 54:35 Steady to flush, wing, shot, and fall 1:00:00 Whoa posts and flank collars 1:03:54 Letting a pointing dog relocate on moving birds 1:07:28 Reading small signals during gun introduction 1:10:28 Trash breaking and deer chasing 1:14:37 Retrieving and force fetch 1:19:15 The limited role of wing on a string 1:28:00 Birds, breaks, and taking away the chase 1:30:16 Why wild birds become the best teacher 1:33:47 Where to find Mark Payton Questions from the episode How much training does a young pointing dog need before its first season? Mark keeps the early program fairly light: recall, collar conditioning, bird introduction, gun introduction, and enough bird work for the dog to begin pointing. He prefers to build a love for birds and let the first hunting season provide experience. More formal polish can come later, often when the dog is roughly nine to 15 months old. Is it a good idea to hunt a puppy during its first season? Mark believes a first season can be valuable when the puppy is physically ready and has the basic preparation to be safe in the field. The goal is opportunity, not finished performance. His own young dogs pointed wild quail and woodcock before six months, while another dog needed more time before the light came on during a scattered covey. What does a young bird dog's light-bulb moment look like? It is the point when bird contacts begin to make sense to the dog. Nick remembers Rose moving from a very young puppy to reliably pointing grouse as the season progressed. Mark remembers one dog sticking quail singles so clearly that he felt he had walked into the field with a puppy and walked out with a bird dog. Why does Mark Payton use a remote bird launcher? Mark treats a remote launcher as a tool for simulating the consequence a wild bird would give a dog. If the dog crowds the scent cone, approaches from the wrong side of the wind, or gets too close, the bird leaves. That loss of opportunity helps many dogs learn to stop and point without the handler manufacturing the point. Will catching one training pigeon ruin a pointing dog? One caught pigeon is unlikely to create a lasting problem, especially with a young dog still developing bird drive. Repeated catches are different because they can teach the dog that birds are available to grab. Mark moves away from easy catches once the dog's interest is established and uses stronger-flying birds or launchers to preserve the bird's advantage. What are the different levels of steadiness in a pointing dog? The terms vary among trainers, but Mark separates them by what the dog remains still through. Steady to flush covers the handler moving in to produce the bird. Steady to wing adds the bird taking flight. Steady through shot and fall asks the dog to remain until the bird is down and the handler releases it. What small signs can show a gun introduction is moving too fast? A dog may keep chasing while still showing uncertainty. Mark watches for ears lowering, a brief hesitation in stride, or a small change in the tail after the shot. Those details can be easy to miss. A handler who reads them early can pause rather than escalating from one light shot to several hunters firing at a covey. What does Mark mean by an honest bird dog? An honest bird dog is genuinely trying to find, point, and handle the bird for the hunter. A bump can still happen because of wind, distance, or a running bird, but the dog is not deliberately trying to flush ahead of the gun. Nick describes that trust with Rose, especially when she relocates on moving ruffed grouse without being directed. The Future of Everything presented by Stanford Engineering

Jackelyn Hwang is an expert on the social dynamics of cities. In one line of research, she combines AI and Google Street View to measure quality-of-life factors – such as trash, blight, new construction, and the pace of recovery from climate disasters – to analyze gentrification, racial equity, and overall resident well-being. Her work has shown, for instance, that predominantly Black neighborhoods are last and slowest to gentrify and that displaced Black residents often end up in worse neighborhoods. She recently worked with policymakers at the housing department of Oakland, California, on anti-displacement and anti-homelessness programs and is now working with policymakers across the Bay Area to strengthen neighborhoods. We are clearing a path to more stable communities for everyone, Hwang tells host Russ Altman on this episode of Stanford Engineering's The Future of Everything podcast. Have a question for Russ? Send it our way in writing or via voice memo, and it might be featured on an upcoming episode. Please introduce yourself, let us know where you're listening from, and share your question. In this episode of The Neoliberal Round Podcast, host Renaldo McKenzie examines the growing environmental justice battle between Philadelphia and neighboring Chester, Pennsylvania, where a significant share of Philadelphia's municipal waste is sent to be burned at the Reworld/Covanta incinerator. After years of protests, public testimony, and appeals to Philadelphia officials, Chester environmental justice advocates are now taking their message directly to Philadelphia residents, urging them to contact City Council, oppose a new waste contract with Reworld, and support the Stop Trashing Our Air Act.The controversy raises a deeper question: Can Philadelphia call itself “clean and green” while exporting the environmental consequences of its consumption to a predominantly Black neighboring community?Renaldo explores the claims surrounding pollution and public health, Chester's decades-long environmental justice struggle, Reworld's response, the politics surrounding Philadelphia's waste contracts, and the larger questions of race, class, power, and environmental inequality. As Philadelphia City Council prepares to confront the future of the city's waste disposal, Chester residents are asking Philadelphians to stand with them. The trash may leave Philadelphia—but the consequences do not simply disappear.

Most leaders spend years chasing the next productivity tool, the next framework, the next shortcut. Robb Fahrion's father just drove a trash truck at 14 and kept showing up. By the time Robb was running Flying V Group, he had watched that quiet consistency turn into a career that went all the way to president of a major waste and recycling corporation. No hacks. No shortcuts. Just intentional effort, stacked day after day until it compounded into something remarkable. Robb built his company on that same foundation. Then he added systems sharp enough to make the compounding happen faster. Today, Flying V Group manages 70+ active marketing clients. His team got back 30-40% of their working hours, and that shift happened because Robb understood something most leaders only discover after years of painful trial and error: the way you build your systems determines whether your team is running for you or running from you. In this episode, Robb and I get into: The "non-negotiables" framework and why it keeps distributed teams moving. Robb built a structure that makes consistent, high-quality execution possible without anyone waiting on the boss to show up. For leaders managing remote or growing teams, this is the difference between momentum and drift. How Flying V Group used AI to multiply what their best people could do. They didn't use AI to cut headcount or cut corners. They used it to eliminate the work that was eating their team's most valuable hours. The result changed what their people were capable of. The HAIC framework (Human AI Controlled) and why your reputation depends on it. As AI floods the internet with content, the gap between what builds credibility and what destroys it is widening fast. Robb has a specific framework for staying on the right side of that gap, and it is something every leader publishing content right now needs to hear. Why a 1-in-50 cold outreach rate was actually a win. Robb's approach to building his professional network broke almost every rule about lead generation. It was slower, quieter, and more personal than anything most people would try. It also outlasted every shortcut his competitors were taking. The accountability system that catches problems before they get expensive. Robb built a way for his leadership team to see exactly where attention is needed before small issues turn into costly ones. If your team regularly surprises you with problems, this is the conversation worth listening to. The most valuable thing Robb said in this episode is that success is compounding. Small, intentional efforts done consistently build into something that looks almost unreasonably good from the outside. You just have to build the system that makes those efforts impossible to skip. Learn more about Robb Fahrion over at Flying V Group. You can also connect with him on LinkedIn. Want to build systems that give you back your time? Free Thinking Through the Fourth Turning with Sasha Stone

Today, after staying on Jon Ossoff's email list for eight years, I finally hit unsubscribe. This is my Dear Jon letter, and in some ways, the moment I will really be saying goodbye to the Democratic Party once and for all.I will admit I held on too long with Ossoff. Try as I might over the past six years since leaving the party to extricate myself from their relentless email machine, I didn't mind when Ossoff's emails flew into my mailbox. In 2017, I saw in Ossoff what the Democrats needed as they tried to find their next Obama stand-in. He fit the bill perfectly. I also liked how he didn't seem to buy into the party's increasingly crazy extremes but was comfortably moderate, at least for a time. My record with Federal political donations tells the tale. If anyone looks at my record, they'll see I continued donating to ActBlue through 2025. Except that I didn't. I just didn't realize they were charging me all that time. That's how relentless they are and how stupid I am. The Glow-UpBefore the expensive makeup, strategic lighting and tight shirts, Ossoff looked like what Steve Bannon would call a “pencil-necked geek.” He was too skinny, even if he was an Obama clone. He seemed too good, too clean for dirty politics back then. I fell for the lie that Ossoff really was a self-made man, a “filmmaker who turned to politics,” per this Wall Street Journal video. He is hardly self-made. More like a hot house flower.Ossoff grew up in a political household. Both parents were heavily involved in politics. At just 19, he began working on Capitol Hill for Rep. Hank Johnson while attending Georgetown's School of Foreign Service and continued working for him until 2012. His email list was mostly the kind of thing you'd get in the old days of the Democratic Party, the kind of thing you'd expect from the Obama clone factory. But that isn't really where Ossoff is now in his political career. He is determined not to go down as a squeaky-clean beta male. No, Ossoff has gotten SWOLE. He appears to have brought in a team to fix the look to be camera-ready. The makeup, the hair, the dimples. Ossoff finally looks the part. He can do alpha. All of a sudden, he's the guy everyone is talking about. He's the guy who is suddenly the hottie on tap. True, he's Jewish, and that's a problem for the Democrats, but no one really talks about that. Instead, they're selling the matinee idol on TikTok. The truth is, I didn't think about Jon Ossoff much until he went viral for channeling his inner sexist in a desperate bid to get attention and rise to the top of the pile. And it worked. He went viral! He's in the headlines now, and everyone knows his name. But this version of Jon Ossoff will never be president. He's abandoned what made him exceptional in the first place, his decency and his goodness. The sharks demanded flesh and blood, and he gave it to them, but it will come at a cost. One of the main reasons Democrats have failed for the past ten years to gain any purchase in this country has been their obsessive fixation on Trump, which is pretty much all Ossoff is doing. It's a race to the bottom to see who can out-Trump Trump, to be more confrontational, more bullying, more vulgar, and tougher. They believe this will solve their “man problem,” and who knows, maybe it will. I look at Ossoff now, and I don't see someone tough or brave. I see a coward.Ossoff, like James Talarico and almost every Democrat, is now leaning into the party's extremes. Because of course he is. He has to. In his viral speech in Atlanta, he referenced his daughters and said they will ask him one day how he let things get so bad, and, in the same sentence, dismiss the concerns of little girls and women in sports.Guess what, Jon: thousands of little girls will one day ask you why you let it happen, why you allowed so many of them to believe they should amputate their breasts when they could not consent. They will look to you, Jon. You will have to tell them why you pretended biological males had no advantage in sports because you were too cowardly to stand up to your own party. I once thought Ossoff was a good man. Now I see him as a desperate man, no different from any other Democrat, so much so that he's given himself over to what has become an uncontrollable fetish on the Left to dehumanize Donald Trump and his supporters. They slut-shamed Melania's modeling photos, splashing them all over social media. They suggested Trump was having an affair with his own daughter. They took a bath in Karoline Leavitt's Vanity Fair photos, which splashed all over TikTok and led to her being called KKKaroline. They mocked Kellyanne Conway's age and her face, and Sarah Huckabee Sanders' makeup. It's grotesque and repulsive, but it is typical and ongoing. Even now, Rosie O'Donnell is out there on primetime television calling Trump a “serial pedophile and rapist.” It doesn't matter if it's true. It only matters if it happened in their imagination. They spent whole seasons giggling about the particulars of the Stormy Daniels affair, and they were willing to forgive lusty E. Jean Carroll's sexy talk at Anderson Cooper and envision instead a ridiculous, implausible, violent rape incident that most likely never happened. They call Trump a rapist so they can kill him. They call him a racist so they can kill him. They call him a fascist so they can kill him. They call him a pedophile so they can kill him. They just want to kill him, and every day the hungry beast must be fed. Before you say “But Trump says…” there's a difference. No one on the Right, least of all Trump, pretends to be morally superior to the other half of the country as they have on the Left. There are no death fantasies. They don't go “no contact.” They don't destroy your career if you even so much as like a post by the other side. The price of admission in their world is that you have to want Trump dead too. You must forsake him, and then they will welcome you with open arms. That's who they are and what they've become and why I could not and will never be a part of that world anymore. Now, Ossoff has become one of them. The party of women knows destroying a woman like Natalie Harp isn't a good look, because she is sympathetic. She's a homeschooled bone cancer survivor whose father committed suicide. And Ossoff, to paraphrase Aaron Sorkin, gets on television and calls her a w***e.And that, more than anything, defines the men of the Left, too. They can't stand up to those crazy, crazy women. They have no real courage to stand up to the extremists either. They know they are muzzled and must do as they're told. Cowardly beta males like musician Bill Madden, a keyboard warrior whose fingers tingle every day when he has the chance to say the worst things he can as long as it's aimed at women on the Right. It kind of helps to see what he really looks like, just a fading nobody clinging to his youth. This quote is on his Wikipedia: “… when it comes to inequality, historically, no group of people has been discriminated against more than women. Men have been f*****g up the world for thousands of years. It's time we give more women a chance to lead.”Oh really? I guess you have to say which women, eh Bill? Not all of them. It's possible the Democrats overplayed their hand and have realized the Natalie Harp story is not a win for them. You can see them now reeling it in, trying to say Trump amplified it as a distraction because it makes the Democrats look bad. Oh no, my friends, you did that all on your own. The problem is that where there is chum in the water, there are hungry sharks. The lower the Democrats go, like Jennifer Welch and Hasan Piker, the more the candidates seeking office must feed the hungry beasts. The Party of Crazy, Crazy WomenThey might think the Great Feminization has made society better, but it has left them like a women's prison, or stranded on a desert island with the only men in sight being the weak, flaccid, pandering, ineffectual men of the Left. And that has left the women, shall we say, a bit unhinged. Can you blame the women stuck on that island for losing their minds when they saw Zohran Mamdani's TikToks? Most of what he does now seems directly related to how much women on TikTok will swoon over him. Parents' night out? Free helmets? Doxing millionaires? Free groceries? Rent freeze!Abdul El-Sayed is following the same sales pitch of aiming his TikTok videos at the young ladies, flexing his muscles and waving his backside at the camera in a way no white man could ever get away with, certainly not while positioning themselves as a sexy “Daddy” figure. They don't just want sexy back; they also want to be the party of fun and are working on a TikTok rebrand. The problem is that the base of the Democratic Party, mostly white women, are nuttier than a five-pound fruitcake. We found out just how nutty this past week as a movement began to form in support of child murderer Lindsay Clancy. There they were again, those crazy, crazy women showcasing their pathology on TikTok. They weren't shaving their heads this time or wearing blue bracelets. They were elevating Lindsay Clancy as the victim, even after she confessed to strangling the life out of her three kids. These are the kinds of lunatics whose votes Jon Ossoff needs. And that is why he has finally given them exactly what they want. The irony of all of this is Natalie Harp was hurled into the arena for unending mockery, slut-shaming, and fantasies. Doesn't she count as a woman, too? Isn't she worthy of support? A Feeding FrenzyThe media was all too ready to devour the bloody chum Ossoff threw into the water. It's just that, as with everything they do, it's not real. It's fake news. There is no bottom when it comes to how they report on Donald Trump and especially the women who surround him. But some of the lows have been extraordinary, like dragging out Harp's wayward, socialist hippie brother to exploit the tragedy of their falling out after the death of their father. It doesn't get much darker than that. Or more desperate. Here is Larry O'Connor on Townhall:O'Connor again with Mark Halperin and Kevin Walling on Next Up:Scott Jennings had no trouble setting the record straight.Ossoff's sleazy attack on Harp reveals his biggest weakness. He wants it too bad, and he sold himself out. And maybe that makes him ready to be the democratic nominee. Want those big donations? Trash women, trash working-class voters, dehumanize your fellow Americans. Sell women and girls down the river. Pander to the extremists. Smear the character of a young woman like Natalie Harp just to go viral, just to please the unhinged women on the Left who don't even know what a woman is. For his part, Trump flicked Ossoff away like a speck of dust on his suit, calling him Pee Wee Herman. And if we know one thing about Donald Trump, once you get hit with a nickname, it sticks. //Become a paid subscriber or leave a tip.Manage subscription This is a public episode. Nick welcomes Tom Hush back to the podcast for the final edition of “Theater of Trash” before the new Radio Misfits Podcast is launched in September. Here, Tom and Nick examine the truly bizarre, and insanely entertaining Italian flick “Live Like a Cop, Die Like a Man,” which is very, very loosely inspired by Starsky and Hutch, and features crime, shoot-outs, an extended motorcycle chase, and the bloody death of a seeing eye dog…among other crazy things. It’s a fun look at one of the great examples of trashy cinema, and a great preview of things to come on the new podcast. Then, Esmeralda Leon joins Nick for a preview of weekend fun, a deep analysis of The Lord of the Rings, more celebrity phobias, and a conversation about a weird bug invasion at Esma’s house!
