Hayley Sproull wears many hats. Along with being one of the hosts of ZM's Breakfast show, she's a television host, a podcaster, an actor, writer, and a comedian. She's also newly single, and her recent dating escapades have led to the creation of her newest comedy show – ‘Sproull On The Prowl'. “Every year I make a comedy show, and every year it gets harder to think about what the theme is going to be,” she told Jack Tame. “I don't have a lot of hardship, you know, I haven't really overcome a lot in my life – so it gets harder.” In the past Sproull has done shows about things like her body, being in a long-term relationship, and what it's like being child-free by choice and living that life in your thirties. “Then I was like, I don't know what's next, and then I went through a massive break up.” “While it is very sad to go through a life-changing breakup, there in the back of your mind, you're like, “there's your content.”” It's been a fair bit of time since Sproull last dealt with the dating market —15 years to be exact— and things have changed quite a bit. “Lots has changed,” she told Tame. “Physically for sure things have changed ... but I think, like, I'm so much more confident, right? “And you are very aware of what you will and won't accept from people now. I don't have a lot of, and I'm not looking, I'm not out there looking for a husband or anything.” “I'm just looking for decent people to have a good time with.” And that's not even mentioning the dating apps, which Sproull now has extensive experience with – Tinder, Feeld, and even Raya, the dating app for the rich and famous. “I mentioned one of them in my show, a super famous singer-songwriter with a number one hit song that's dated lots of celebrities popped up and I swiped on him because I thought it'd be funny,” she explained. “I screenshotted it because I wanted to tell everyone who I saw and the app kicks you off immediately.” LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Notes: Ms. Ayerza studied criminology, forensic behavioural sciences and psychology. Her early research examined eyewitness memory and the re-entry of exonerees before she became interested in cybercrime and cyberstalking. She was drawn to cybercrime because it is not limited to hacking, malware and phishing. Technology is part of everyday life through social media, email, dating apps and other commonly used services. Dating apps allow users to create profiles, specify the people and relationships in which they are interested and indicate interest in other users. When two users express an interest in one another, they can normally begin communicating through the app. Some dating apps are intended for broad audiences, while others serve particular lifestyles, interests or sexual orientations. Profiles are often presented as individual photographs or grids of photographs from which users make selections. Ms. Ayerza explains that dating apps are designed to make dating convenient and can feel like games. The superficial and rapid nature of matching can encourage users to make decisions based primarily on photographs. Harassment can arise when users send repeated messages in an effort to gain someone's attention. Some people may not recognize these repeated or unwanted communications as harassment. Users may also deliberately match with someone because they disagree with something in that person's profile and want an opportunity to criticize or harass them. Ms. Ayerza conducted an online survey of adult dating app users living in the United States. The study examined the information people included in their profiles, the photographs they shared and characteristics of the applications they used. The study considered whether users disclosed their relationship preferences, sexual orientation, workplace or occupation. It also examined whether they used their full name or an alternative name and whether their photographs included friends or family. Verification on dating apps can be a relatively superficial process in which a live photograph is compared with the photographs on a profile. Premium features may also allow users to change the location in which their profiles appear. Users often adopt their own protective measures, such as using pseudonyms or withholding photographs of their faces. However, designing effective technical safeguards is difficult because repeated messages can be part of both ordinary conversations and harassment. Most dating app users do not experience harassment, but Ms. Ayerza says that around a quarter of the users in the study experienced these forms of harm. The study did not compare victimisation across individual dating apps. Ms. Ayerza suggests that larger platforms may have more resources and face greater public pressure to introduce safeguards, while smaller platforms may have fewer resources. Sharing relationship or sexual orientation preferences was not found to increase risk. Ms. Ayerza suggests that these preferences help platforms present users with people who have similar interests without necessarily revealing where someone can be found. Including information about where a person works or studies increased risk. Photographs featuring friends or family also had an influence because they can reveal social connections and additional information about the user. Uploading photographs of one's face was not found to increase risk, possibly because facial photographs are a normal and often required part of using dating apps. Matching with someone under the age of 18 increased risk. Ms. Ayerza connects this finding to the limited measures used by dating apps to confirm that users are old enough to participate. One of the most surprising findings was that using a pseudonym or nickname increased risk. Ms. Ayerza discusses the possibility that an alternative name creates a false sense of security and encourages people to disclose more information. Ms. Ayerza advises users to think carefully about what they disclose. Preferences may be appropriate to share, while details about occupations, workplaces, friends and family may be better withheld until someone is known more closely. She emphasizes that responsibility should not be placed entirely on victims. People should understand that harassment is unacceptable and platform operators should do more to prevent and respond to harmful behaviour. Possible platform interventions include better reporting mechanisms and educational or training modules that users complete before creating a profile. Schools could help prepare young people to communicate appropriately on dating apps once they are old enough to use them. Ms. Ayerza also argues that governments should treat conduct on dating apps more seriously because every profile represents a real person. Future researchers need measures that reflect the activities people actually perform on dating apps. Greater consistency would also make it easier to compare findings across studies. Ms. Ayerza plans to examine offending as well as victimisation. Her future research will consider unwanted sexual messages, sexual violence and the experience of multiple forms of harm on dating apps. About our guest: Jennifer M. For Christians who desire marriage, a healthy relationship can move from dating to engagement within a year through intentional discernment. Begin with three months of exclusive dating focused solely on getting to know one another without making marriage commitments. If the relationship shows clear potential, continue with six weeks to three months of premarital counseling with a trusted pastor or counselor to evaluate biblical, emotional, and practical compatibility. At the conclusion of counseling, make a mutual decision about whether to pursue marriage. Once both people have agreed, set a wedding date, and then the proposal can serve as a joyful celebration of a decision that has already been made together—not as the moment the decision is first introduced. "Mac" Brazel's discovery of wreckage on his Lincoln County property led Colonel William Blanchard's Roswell Army Air Field to announce the capture of a "flying disc," only for the Army to reverse itself within days and blame a weather balloon, complete with staged photos of Major Jesse Marcel posing with the debris. The story follows the account through the U.S. Air Force's 1994 admission that the wreckage actually came from Project Mogul, a secret high-altitude balloon array built to detect Soviet atomic tests, and its 1997 explanation that reported alien bodies were fallen parachute test dummies, then weighs those official conclusions against UFO researcher Donald Schmitt's objections and journalist Annie Jacobsen's competing claim that the crash involved deformed children deployed by Joseph Stalin and designed by Nazi doctor Josef Mengele.From there, the episode moves through six UFO crash reports that predate Roswell by decades, including an 1897 cigar-shaped craft said to have destroyed Judge Proctor's windmill in Aurora, Texas, and left a small humanoid body buried in the local cemetery; an 1862 wreck witnessed by shipwrecked sailors from the vessel Christine on a deserted Indian Ocean island, where they found twelve-foot-tall bodies with bronze beards; a UFO crash near Stavropol, Russia, whose three survivors reportedly died from being unable to breathe Earth's atmosphere; a 1941 crash in the Carolinas recovered by the U.S. Army during a military exercise involving soldier Guy Simeone; an 1884 debris field of gear-like metal fragments found by rancher John Ellis in Dundy County, Nebraska; and a wartime British crash investigated by journalist Dorothy Kilgallen, who died shortly after publishing claims that the recovered craft's crew stood under four feet tall.Next, the story shifts to Canada's Nahanni Valley, where at least 44 people have died or vanished since 1908, beginning with prospector brothers Willie and Frank McLeod, whose headless skeletons were found at their camp two years after they disappeared, and continuing through the decapitations of Swiss prospector Martin Jorgenson and outlaw "Yukon" Fisher, the mysterious cabin fire that killed Phil Powers, and the vanishing of Annie Laferte, who was later spotted wandering naked and disoriented near the Flat River — deaths locals attribute variously to the legendary Naha tribe, the valley's hot sulphur springs, or predators, while Dene oral history holds that the warlike Naha people simply disappeared without explanation.The episode then turns to 2016, when a construction crew remodeling John and Ericka Karner's San Francisco home unearthed a 19th-century glass-and-cast-iron coffin containing the preserved body of a toddler, later identified through DNA testing led by genealogist Elissa Davey as Edith Howard Cook, who died of malnutrition in 1876 and was accidentally left behind when San Francisco's Odd Fellows Cemetery was relocated to Colma in the 1930s — a discovery the Karner family says ended years of unexplained footsteps they'd heard from a toddler no longer in the house.From there, the story follows former Green Beret Jeffrey MacDonald, convicted of stabbing his pregnant wife Colette and daughters Kimberly and Kristen to death at Fort Bragg in 1970 after claiming a blonde intruder chanting about acid and "pigs" oversaw the killings, an account investigators concluded was staged using details from the recent Manson Family murders; the case follows his decades of appeals, including the 1983 bestseller "A Fatal Vision" that branded him a psychopath and filmmaker Errol Morris's later book arguing the evidence against him was mishandled.The episode closes with the story of Alexander Seton, a secretive Scottish alchemist known as the Cosmopolitan, who in 1602 convinced skeptical Swiss professor Wolfgang Drenheim that he had transmuted lead into gold using nothing but a wrapped powder and a goldsmith's crucible in Fribourg. Seton's success drew the attention of Emperor Rudolf II and later trapped him in the custody of Christian II, Elector of Saxony, who had him pierced with iron spikes and burned with molten lead in an attempt to force him to reveal his formula; Seton escaped in 1603 with the help of his friend Michael Sendivogius but died a broken man soon after, and the alchemical text he was said to have written, the Book of Twelve Chapters, was destroyed, leaving his method lost.
