In the depths of ancient Jericho, beneath layers of earth dating back 10,000 years, archaeologists uncovered something extraordinary: human skulls cast in plaster, their faces carefully reconstructed and their eyes set with shells. Who were these haunting figures meant to represent? In this episode of The Ancients, Tristan Hughes is joined by archaeologist Raven Todd DaSilva to explore the mysterious plastered skulls of Jericho. Dating to the Neolithic period, these striking objects reveal complex beliefs about memory, identity and the dead in some of the world's earliest farming communities. How were they made? What did they mean? And why did this unusual practice spread across the Levant? Dating may feel harder, but has it truly gotten harder in the last 10 years? Julie is breaking down her hypothesis that what we do know is that it sure has gotten a heck of a lot noisier! Between social media, AI, and well-meaning friends, she discusses how this has causes an influx of overthinking in dating instead of leading with connection. She talks about what we can do to reclaim our intuition and learn to trust yourself again. We're going to deep dive even further into this concept of self trust on a future episode, but hope this is the lightbulb moment that can help many of you today start to tune out the noise. Enjoy!

In this episode, we review "Dating With a Purpose," which is an IFB purity culture dating manual targeted at teens and young adults in the IFB and at Hyles-Anderson college. It was written by Jack Schaap, who later went to prison for sexually abusing a child who was a student at the high school where he was chaplain. We also discuss Dr. James Dobson of Focus on the Family's appearance in the Epstein files, and why abusers love purity culture so much.Support the show by going to Patreon.Com/LeavingEdenPodcast!Join our discord server!https://discord.gg/aneFkUJuJoin our subreddit!Reddit.com/r/EdenExodusBluesky:@leavingedenpodcast.bsky.social@hellyeahsadie.bsky.social@gavihacohen.bsky.socialTikTok:@LeavingEdenPodcast@SadieCarpenter1Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/leavingedenpodcast/https://www.instagram.com/sadiecarpentermusic/https://www.instagram.com/gavrielhacohen/Subscribe to Leaving Eden Podcast on YouTube!https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJ4q94gAnsoW2jME4SvVrrQJoin our Patreon for extended, uncensored, and ad-free versions of most of our episodes, as well as other patron perks and bonus content!https://www.patreon.com/LeavingEdenPodcastJoin our Facebook group to join in the discussion with other fans!https://www.facebook.com/groups/edenexodusJoin our subreddit! Send a textAfter observing the perils of the current dating culture, including the premature sexualization of children and sexual involvement of young people and the push toward cohabitation and “trying it out,” Hannah Miller's parents, Robert and Carlotta Jackson, delineated some general principles in their search for a way to help their children find a mate. Of course, the choice is left up to the couple when all is said and done, but parents, family, advisors and/or accountability partners, can help along the way with objectively examining the life of the other interested young lady or young man, especially if the person is unknown to the family. By embracing the process, Hannah's sister Rebecca and her husband Josh Shrom describe on this podcast how it looked for them as well as the joy and fun on the journey. Valentine's Day is either the horniest holiday of the year… or a corporate psyop designed to sell you a giant teddy bear. In this special, Mandii Rose helps me answer the only question that matters: is V-Day still sexy, or did we all get too tired? We get into what to do when you want the night to actually hit—gift ideas, toys, and the kind of simple moves that turn “date night” into “OMFG.”Then Mandii takes us behind the curtain: her mainstream work, her cam-world insanity, and the wildest stuff she's dealt with on fan platforms. She also teases what she's cooking up for Valentine's content, her new scene with Mick Blue, and yes—we go where Sex Party always goes: DP talk, group-scene curiosity, and why certain experiences rewired her brain in the best way possible. Is celebrating Valentine's Day a basic expectation, or optional? Jared and Matchmaker Maria unpack a petty or prudent situation where a woman uses an entire couples spa gift card on herself after her boyfriend refuses to acknowledge Valentine's Day at all. J & MM break down how attitude is everything in dating and why showing up authentically matters, especially for Gen Z. They also share what to do if you've been seeing someone for one day versus a few months for Valentine's Day. Then, a listener asks how to tell a guy she wants to wait to have sex, without killing attraction, right before their first Valentine's Day together. Learn more about your ad choices. Love in the time of AI? Some people seeking romance or friendship are turning to AI chatbots to fulfill those desires, but could they surpass traditional human relationships? Those who say they can argue that AI can offer empathy and safety, and it's a solution for those left out of traditional dating. Those saying they can't argue that intimacy is complicated and cannot be replicated in code. Now we debate: Could Dating an AI Be Better Than Dating a Human? Arguing Yes: Thao Ha, Associate Professor of Psychology and Director of the @HEART Lab at Arizona State University Arguing No: Justin Garcia, Executive Director & Senior Scientist at the Kinsey Institute; Chief Scientific Advisor to Match.com; Author of "The Intimate Animal" Nayeema Raza, Journalist and Host of "Smart Girl Dumb Questions", is the guest moderator. If you're stuck people pleasing, over explaining, apologizing too much, scanning everyone's mood, and saying yes fast then resenting it later, this episode breaks down what's really happening and why it feels so hard to stop. You'll learn how people pleasing often forms as a nervous system survival strategy, the fawn response, where being agreeable once meant safety, approval, or belonging. We talk through the root causes, conditional love, performance conditioning, fear of conflict, and why setting a boundary can trigger guilt, anxiety, and an intense urge to fix, rescue, or smooth things over. You'll also get practical tools to recover from people pleasing without turning cold or selfish, including regulation skills, grounding, breathing, and simple boundary language that's short, calm, and clear. The focus is rebuilding self trust, making your yes mean something again, and ending the cycle of obligation, burnout, and resentment in relationships. If you struggle with saying no to family, a partner, friends, or coworkers, and you want a clear framework for boundaries, emotional safety, and confident communication, this episode will give you what to listen for in yourself, and what to do next.Disclaimer: We are not professionals. On today's episode I chat with Keith and Courtney, cohosts of the podcast Tripping Over Love. Keith is licensed therapist and a Level 3 IFS Consultant, and Courtney is journalist and podcaster. They joined me to share their beautiful, messy love story. We dive into the courage it takes to start over, the "trauma" of the dating apps, and how they've used Internal Family Systems (IFS) and psychedelics to navigate the "breakups, breakdowns, and breakthroughs" of their relationship . We discuss: Starting relationships with truth instead of performance. Radical transparency — "starting with the ending" — as a foundation for trust. Why telling the truth early can save a relationship later. Loving someone while still grieving a past life. Speaking for parts instead of from them in moments of conflict. Finding the courage to try again after loss and heartbreak. Dating is messy: Getting honest about the "thrift store shopping" energy of dating apps. The difference between loving someone and being "in love." IFS as "four-wheel drive": Turning toward the model when relationships get stuck. How psychedelic-assisted journeys helped unlock grief — and create space to love again. Extended Interview At the end of our chat, I asked them each for one piece of advice for couples. This extended interviews is available for paid subscribers over on The One Inside Substack. Much like your professional life, the work you put into being a good spouse should start long before you're married. Today, you'll be reminded that being married and healthy begins by being single and healthy.

Dating can start to feel confusing when attraction keeps pulling you toward the same kinds of outcomes, even when you know you want something deeper. In this episode, we slow the conversation down and look at what attraction is really pointing to beneath the surface. We talk about the difference between chasing a checklist and recognizing character, and why many women find themselves drawn to qualities that do not actually create the relationship they want. In this episode, we discuss:- The difference between attraction to outcomes versus attraction to character and principles- Why focusing only on conventional attractiveness can cause you to miss emotionally available partners- How attraction can grow through emotional safety, integrity, and shared values- The concept of limerence and how it can distort attraction signals- Why instant chemistry is not always a reliable indicator of compatibility- The role of nervous system safety in attraction and connection- Moving out of transactional dating patterns and into value based connection#ForTheLoveOfMenPodcast #DatingWithIntention #FeminineEnergy #MasculineEnergy #HealthyRelationships #EmotionalAvailability #ConsciousDating #AttractionPsychology #RelationshipGrowth #SecureAttachmentWant to work with Bri and/or Courtney?Connect with Bri on Instagram: @buildingbricoachingConnect with Courtney on Instagram: @courtney_schandFollow the show on Instagram: @thefortheloveofmenpodcastCheck out our website: www.fortheloveofmenpodcast.comLooking for deeper support?Check out our Masterclasses:1️⃣ What Your Woman Wants Emotionally And How to Provide It: Unlock the secrets to fulfilling your partner emotionally! Greg and Holly hear from listeners and discuss this question: Single, coupled, or celebrating with family — what are you doing to celebrating Valentine's Day?

Ask frequent flyers what bothers them most about air travel and you might be surprised by the answer. It's not turbulence, cramped seats, or bad food — it's the other passengers. This episode begins by revealing which behaviors irritate fellow travelers the most and what people wish would stop happening at 35,000 feet. https://pro.morningconsult.com/analysis/airplane-etiquette-annoying-behaviors What brings two people together romantically has always been a mystery — and today, it's more complicated than ever. Dating apps offer endless options, yet many people struggle to find meaningful connection. What actually predicts long-term attraction? What matters less than we think? And what do science and history tell us about love, choice, and compatibility? Paul Eastwick joins me to explain how attraction really works. He's a professor of psychology at the University of California, Davis, director of the Attraction and Relationships Research Laboratory, and author of Bonded by Evolution: The New Science of Love and Connection (https://amzn.to/49RrGS0) Most people pursue goals with a clear payoff — something they hope and expect to achieve. But some people dedicate their lives to goals they know will never happen. Why would anyone do that? What sustains them? And what do these impossible pursuits reveal about meaning, purpose, and fulfillment? Journalist Mark Medley shares remarkable stories of people chasing futures they'll never live to see. He's author of Live to See the Day: Impossible Goals, Unimaginable Futures, and the Pursuit of Things That May Never Be (https://amzn.to/46fV95J). And finally, think about all the surfaces your phone touches — tables, counters, public spaces. Then think about where that phone goes when it rings – your face. We wrap up with what science says about phones, germs, and what that means for your skin and health.https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/life-style/beauty/how-smartphones-damage-your-skin-5-ways-to-protect-against-blue-light-and-bacteria/articleshow/124968775.cms PLEASE SUPPORT OUR SPONSORS QUINCE: Refresh your wardrobe with Quince! A Note from James:This might be the most useful episode I've ever done. Not that the others weren't useful—they were—but this one goes above and beyond. It was also awkward for me, and honestly a little embarrassing, to ask some of these questions. I asked them anyway, and I'm glad I did, because the answers were excellent. This episode is with Dr. Nicole McNichols, who just released her book You Could Be Having Better Sex: The Definitive Guide to a Happier, Healthier, and Hotter Sex Life. There was so much strong material that we split the conversation into three parts. This first episode focuses on what great sex actually is, the myths most of us have absorbed, and what really separates good sex from bad sex. Episode two will focus on the science and mechanics of pleasure—how sex actually works. Episode three will be about keeping the spark alive over time.I had a lot of fun talking with Dr. McNichols, and I hope you enjoy this first part.Episode Description:What actually makes sex good—and why do so many people get it wrong? In this episode, James talks with human sexuality professor Dr. Nicole McNichols about how modern myths around sex, porn, dating culture, and “chemistry” distort what people think they're supposed to want. Instead of performance, novelty, or intensity, she explains why pleasure, communication, and feeling genuinely wanted matter far more. They also unpack why anxiety and uncertainty are often mistaken for chemistry, how emotional and intellectual intimacy feed sexual connection, and why setting clear boundaries is essential—not just in relationships, but in dating itself. This conversation reframes sex in a way most people were never taught, grounded in research, real relationships, and practical self-respect.What You'll Learn:Why great sex is defined by pleasure, communication, and responsiveness—not performance or noveltyHow anxiety, inconsistency, and “the chase” get mistaken for chemistryWhy non-sexual touch and everyday intimacy directly affect sexual desireHow intellectual connection and feeling seen feed attractionHow setting clear boundaries in dating protects your emotional and sexual healthTimestamped Chapters:[00:02:00] Episode Preview: Porn myths, exaggerated expectations, and false ideas about desire[00:03:18] A Note from James[00:04:36] Interview Begins: Dr. Nicole McNichols' background and teaching human sexuality[00:07:05] What's the difference between bad sex and great sex?[00:10:16] The role of caring and communication[00:11:21] In defense of “vanilla” sex[00:12:47] Why non-sexual touch matters more than people realize[00:14:23] Intellectual intimacy and sexual attraction[00:15:25] Sapiosexuality and attraction beyond looks[00:17:03] Chemistry vs. anxiety in relationships[00:19:13] The real number-one sexual fantasy: feeling wanted[00:21:15] The myth of “playing the game” in attraction[00:24:30] Dating in the culture of ambiguity[00:26:14] Why intentional dating matters[00:27:55] Boundaries, confidence, and self-careAdditional Resources:You Could Be Having Better SexNicole McNicholsThe Gottman InstituteFundera powered by NerdWalletSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
