AI hits the headlines again. Anthropic wins a lawsuit for its training data procedures, but the judge leaves room for additional lawsuits. In the greater scheme, will any of the lawsuits really matter? John Oliver's AI Slop video is "must-see-TV" and AI content continues to become a bigger part of our lives in content creation and marketing. What do we need to do? And Zohran Mamdani wins the Democratic nomination for mayor in New York, outlasting the big money players through a Gen Z-focused approach. What can we learn from this and will we see more? Winners and losers include Mumford & Sons and Intel dropping marketing as a core function. Rants and raves include Voice of America and the LinkedIn Ballad. ----- This week's links: Anthropic Wins Case AI Slop and John Oliver Mamdani Takes New York Nomination with TikTok VOA's Iran Mess Mumford & Sons Membership Pass Intel Outsources Marketing to Accenture ----- This week's sponsor: INBOUND 2025 features an incredible lineup including Amy Poehler, Dario Amodei, Dwarkesh Patel, Sean Evans (Hot Ones), Marques Brownlee, Glennon Doyle, and more. After trekking through the Far East (Japan), Ken LaVicka is back into FAU mode just in time for another Panthers Stanley Cup championship! Huge congratulations to FAU Basketball fan, Boca Raton resident & Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov on laying another building block in the Cats dynasty foundation. From a college football standpoint, after weeks of College Football Playoff format speculation, Ken has had enough. The sports FBS power brokers don't care about the Group of 6 and will never care about them, so it's time to act. Ken gives his proposal for a G6 College Football Playoff format. It's time to play for something other than a random end-of-year, transfer portal-tarnished bowl game. Also, while it's a good thing the College Football Hall of Fame slightly altered its overall winning percentage requirement to allow Mike Leach entry into the institution, it does nothing to help the man whose absence completely invalidates the Hall of Fame, Howard Schnellenberger. If Miami and Louisville and just going to ignore this injustice, then it's time for FAU to act. (Disclaimer: The content in this video is intended for educational and informational purposes only)Kyle and Mark break down body cam footage of an officer involved shooting. Details: Fairfax, Virginia — On April 23, 2025, at 2:36 p.m., an officer with the Fairfax County Police Department conducted a traffic stop in the 4000 block of Majestic Lane after noticing an expired safety sticker on the front window of a 1999 Toyota Corolla. The car was being driven by 36-year-old Jamal Wali of Fairfax. Wali was argumentative and refused to obey commands. Backup was called and once on scene, Wali unholstered a weapon and fired one shot at through the driver's side window. He attempted to fire a second shot, but it didn't discharge due to a malfunction. The bullet that Wali fired traveled through the bicep of one officer, then through the forearm of another officer before traveling across the street and shattering the back windshield of another parked car. Both officers were treated at a local hospital and later released. A third officer standing on the passenger side of the vehicle discharged his weapon, striking Wali four times. Wali was transported to a nearby hospital and was later pronounced deceased.=================================Subscribe to Shots Fired Podcast Here:➡️ YouTube: @shotsfiredpodcast50 ==============Ways to reach the Shots Fired Podcast Team:==============

The Art of Making Things Happen (Bluefishing) Steve Sims

In this motivating episode of Steve's Rants, Steve Sims dives into the game-changing power of building your own “A Team.” Drawing on a standout moment from his experience as a keynote speaker alongside Magic Johnson at Traffic and Conversion, Steve unpacks the lesson that even top performers need top teams behind them. He recounts Magic's pivotal realization: being an A player means intentionally surrounding yourself with other A players—not just sticking with old friends or convenient connections, but building a circle of excellence across every facet of your life and business. Steve uses Magic's story to challenge listeners to examine the standards they set—not just for themselves, but for everyone in their orbit. He stresses that your results and your growth depend on the quality of your team, from mentors and coaches to business partners and advisors. This isn't just about talent, but about the standards you uphold in every area, whether that's who manages your finances or who handles your PR. Steve shares his own approach to curating a stellar support system, making it clear that the commitment to surrounding yourself with the best lifts everyone to new heights. Packed with practical takeaways and Steve's signature no-nonsense wisdom, this episode is a wake-up call for entrepreneurs and business owners to audit their inner circles, raise their standards, and start thinking like Magic Johnson. If you want bigger results, build a better team, and don't settle—your standards, and your squad, will dictate your success.

In a series of rants to reporters, President Trump's rage at Harvard took a sadistic and unhinged turn. He made it clear that only total subjugation to him on Harvard's part will satisfy him. This comes as a judge just blocked another one of his executive orders aimed at grinding a major law firm into submission, a big setback to Trump in a string of legal losses on that front. In today's episode, Katherine Stewart, a sharp observer of MAGA who has a new piece on her Substack about the Harvard catastrophe, explains that these things are connected: Trump's attacks on Harvard and other institutions are about creating the deliberate impression that we're sliding into lawlessness and terror, so victories like that one in court are a crucial reminder that we still do have the rule of law. Stewart explains why keeping alive this idea is so essential, why Trump is counting on you to lose sight of it, and what must happen now. Looking for More from the DSR Network? In this thought-provoking episode of Steve's Rants, Steve Sims dives deep into a surprising reason why so many companies stumble—not from a lack of opportunities, but from too many. Drawing on his experience working with entrepreneurs, Steve highlights how early business success often leads to an overwhelming flood of new possibilities, collaborations, and ideas. The danger, he argues, is that entrepreneurs are naturally wired to say “yes” to opportunity, but this can actually cause businesses to implode under the weight of endless options and distractions. Steve shares a refreshing, practical system for managing this opportunity overload without ever having to say the dreaded word “no.” He introduces a simple three-column approach—“now,” “not now,” and “not me”—to help prioritize ideas, stay focused, and avoid burnout. Through real-world examples and his signature straight talk, Steve reveals how moving ideas between these columns can keep your business on track while still allowing space for creativity and growth. He stresses the value of knowing your strengths, outsourcing weaknesses, and focusing on what you do best. This episode is a must-listen for entrepreneurs and business owners seeking clarity amid chaos. Discover why being selective with opportunities is crucial to long-term success, and learn how a disciplined approach to innovation can keep your business thriving—even in the face of constant temptation to chase the next big thing. As always, Steve encourages listeners to take action: disrupt, connect, and grow, because life's too short to play it safe.

President Trump's presser on Wednesday flew off the rails. He raged at a reporter for questioning his acceptance of a luxury jet from Qatar. He snapped when asked why he's resettling white Afrikaners but no other refugees. And he tried to humiliate the South African president by brandishing printouts about the deaths of white South Africans but couldn't defend his lie of a “white genocide” unfolding there. The corruption and the white nationalism—Trump openly promised both during the campaign, and he's now doing them. Yet on the latter, a new Marquette poll finds wide public disapproval of Trump's deportations of longtime residents, and shows independents tiling strongly against him on immigration, revealing fresh weakness on this issue. We talked to veteran labor strategist Michael Podhorzer, author of a new piece on his Substack arguing that the anti-MAGA majority that didn't show up in 2024 is now visibly reconstituting itself in polls. He explains that Trump's unhinged presser helps show how Trump himself is making that happen.  Looking for More from the DSR Network?
