Could your racing thoughts and underlying anxiety be causing your mysterious hives, heart palpitations, and unexplained allergic reactions? After my own shocking hive outbreak following surgery and Bali belly, I dove deep into the world of histamine and mast cells. Dr. Jessica Peatross, the MD who's become known as the "surgeon of figuring out what's really going on," reveals why your nervous system might be the hidden trigger behind your mystery symptoms. She explains why midlife women suddenly develop histamine issues out of nowhere, the shocking connection between anxiety and mast cell activation, and why your body might be pushing toxins out through your skin when it can't eliminate them normally. We dive into game-changing protocols including specific binders that act like sponges for excess histamine, why addressing your gut is non-negotiable, and how a simple dissolving strip might calm your overactive mast cells. Dr. Jess shares her "magic trick" binder protocol, explains which supplements actually work for mast cell stabilization, and reveals why treating the nervous system FIRST is crucial for any healing protocol to work. Whether you're dealing with unexplained hives, chronic inflammation, or mystery symptoms that appeared out of nowhere, this conversation will change everything you thought you knew about histamine and healing. Unveiling Fructan Intolerance: The Hidden Culprit Behind GI Issues. Leyla Muedin, a registered dietitian nutritionist, delves into the often misunderstood world of gastrointestinal issues, differentiating between gluten intolerance and fructan intolerance. She explains how emerging research suggests fructans, not gluten, may be the real trigger for many GI symptoms. Leyla discusses the structure, impact, and prevalence of fructans in various foods, and their role as prebiotics. She also highlights diagnostic methods and dietary approaches, particularly the Low FODMAP diet, to manage symptoms and properly identify intolerances. Check out part two of this episode next Friday.
The manager of the Clare Immigrant Support Centre says he's "absolutely" in favour of introducing new legislation to combat hate speech against migrants. The European Commission against Racism and Intolerance has published a new report stating hate speech is "widespread" in Ireland and recommending new laws be brought in to clamp down on the problem. Prior to enacting the Criminal Justice Hate Offences Act 2024 last December, the Government took the decision to remove controversial elements relating to hate speech - prompting the European Commission to claim Ireland is "failing" to comply with laws around criminalisation of race-based violence and hatred. Clare Immigrant Support Centre Manager Simon Ó Treasaigh has been telling Clare FM's Seán Lyons hateful rhetoric is on the rise and the legal system must play its part in the fight against it.
Ciara and Shane discussed latest EU report card on how Ireland is tackling racism and intolerance.
Hate speech is “fuelling hatred and escalating tensions” in Ireland and some politician's reactions to events are partly to blame as well. That's according to a new report by the European Commission against Racism and Intolerance which says new legislative measures punishing hate speech must be introduced as a matter of priority. Pat discusses this further with Shaykh Dr Umar Al-Qadri Chairperson, Irish Muslim Peace and Integration Council.

It's hard listening to all the tributes for Jim Bolger and not feeling like we're being short-changed by our current crop of leaders.A few short generations ago, this country was a different place. Before the internet. Before the phones. Before the anxiety. Before career politicians—those who go straight from school to university, into the student union, and then directly into politics.Jim Bolger was in Parliament a long time. But he had a productive life before that. He left school at 15 and went straight into work. Hard work. Manual work. On the farm in Taranaki, and later in Te Kuiti. Now it's straight from school, into a student union at university, and then into Parliament.Have you watched Parliament TV lately? There are MPs who literally don't know how to ask a question. It's like watching a video buffer. No idea about standing orders. No idea about the rules that govern the place. And no apparent desire to learn, either.Just walk in. Full of entitlement. Sit down. And start yelling. One of the most important tools in the modern MP's toolbox seems to be an unwavering ability to take offence. At anything and everything.Intolerance for another's point of view—the antithesis of Jim Bolger—is now commonplace.Where once there was decency, there's mistrust.Wisdom has been usurped by incompetence. And decorum has been thrown out the window and replaced with petulance.People aren't recognised for their standing in the community and voted into Parliament. They're there because politics is now an industry—and more importantly—because nobody else would hire them or pay the going rate we do.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
What if your aches, digestive issues, or low-energy days aren't just about food or stress — but how well your body manages gravity? In this powerful conversation, Dr. Brennan Spiegel unpacks “gravity intolerance,” the idea that our bodies are increasingly out of sync with the gravity force we evolved under. From astronauts losing bone density in space to children collapsing into chairs, the missing piece isn't always more activity or diet—it's a better alignment with how nature meant us to move, stay upright, and resist the downward drag. Dr. Spiegel weaves together stories and science: how weak posture flattens digestion, how serotonin isn't just a mood chemical but a key tool for gravity-resilience, how weighted vests and foot contact matter, and why many gut-brain problems (including IBS) may stem from gravity mis-management more than we realized. Send us a textIn this podcast episode, a pediatric gastroenterologist, Pediatric GI expert Dr. Victoria Martin joins me to demystify milk intolerance in babies—what FPIAP and cow's milk protein intolerance really mean, why these diagnoses are tricky, and how families can find practical, evidence-based solutions.shares her expertise on milk intolerances in infants. Dr. Martin emphasizes the importance of supporting breastfeeding mothers, addressing misconceptions about milk allergies, and the potential benefits of early allergen exposure. Additionally, Dr. Martin and the host discuss the role of lactose intolerance, and nutritional considerations for infants. Dr. Victoria (Tori) Martin is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School, Co-Director of the Pediatric Gastroenterology Section of the Food Allergy Center at Massachusetts General Hospital for Children, and Associate Program Director of the MGHfC Pediatric GI Fellowship. Her research focuses on early-life GI health, food antigens, and the infant microbiome.Key takeaways“Lactose intolerance” is not a typical infant diagnosis; infant concerns are usually protein related.Microscopic stool blood alone has limits—treat the baby, not just the test. For breastfed infants with visible blood and discomfort, consider short, targeted milk-protein elimination, then a re-challenge in ~1 month to confirm diagnosis and avoid unnecessary long-term restriction.Hypoallergenic formulas are an option; prioritize growth, feeding comfort, and family well-being.Early, safe introduction of other allergens (e.g., peanut, egg) should still proceed on schedule unless otherwise directed by your clinician.Your Child is Normal is the trusted podcast for parents, pediatricians, and child health experts who want smart, nuanced conversations about raising healthy, resilient kids. In the early twentieth century, eugenics captivated scientists and the public alike, giving researchers license to exploit the infirm, the mentally ill, prisoners, Native communities and many others considered "defective" or "feebleminded" under the guise of genetics. At its center stood the Eugenics Record Office in Cold Spring Harbor, directed by Charles Davenport from 1910 to 1939. From this Long Island building emerged policies of forced sterilization and ideas that would later influence Nazi ideology. My guest is Mark A. Torres, author of Long Island and the Legacy of Eugenics: Staton of Intolerance. BPD Frustration IntoleranceBPD Frustration Intolerance explains one of the most confusing, crazy-making, and painful dynamics loved ones face in relationships with someone who has Borderline Personality Disorder. In this episode, I unpack why ordinary limits, boundaries, or small disappointments can trigger emotionally explosive reactions, chaos, and betrayal cycles. No matter how any times you try to calm a person with BPD down, jump to their demands, apologize for what they are doing to you, try to help them emotionally regulate, you cannot stop these betrayal cycles. In the betrayal cycles and through all the demands and the Borderline (protective) entitlement as they shame you and blame you and "hold you responsible" in their projective identification they have no real-time emotional awareness of YOU, of what YOU are feeling, of what YOU are going through. They don't care after each and every one of these betrayal cycles. YOU won't be seen or heard or empathized with, understood, or apologized to either. In this podcast episode you will learn and I hope gain clarity about:What frustration intolerance really means in the context of BPDHow trauma and emotional dysregulation fuel these reactionsWhy the cycle creates a false promise of peace that never lastsThe toll it takes on partners, family members, and friendsWhy this makes BPD relationships unsustainablehttps://ajmahari.ca/sessions - Sessionshttps://ajmahari.ca/podcasts - Podcastshttps://ajmahari.com - Online Store new Course Modules coming soonhttps://survivingbpdrelationshipbreakup.com - This podcast and my Youtube FeedThis podcast is ranked in the Top 100 Relationships Podcasts on feedspot.com at:100 Best Relationship Podcasts You Must Follow in 2025Million Podcasts has ranked this podcast in the top 60 Codependency Podcasts, the top 100 Narcissistic Abuse Podcasts and the top 100 in their Toxic RelationshipPodcast lists.https://www.millionpodcasts.com/codependency-podcasts/https://www.millionpodcasts.com/narcissistic-abuse-podcasts/https://www.millionpodcasts.com/toxic-relationship-podcasts/

Come to a Dehoarding Accountability Zoom Session: http://www.overcomecompulsivehoarding.co.uk/ticket Subscribe to the podcast: https://www.overcomecompulsivehoarding.co.uk/subscribe Podcast show notes, links and transcript: http://www.overcomecompulsivehoarding.co.uk/ Why is it so hard to deal with uncertainty, and what does that have to do with hoarding? This week I'm joined by Dr Jan Eppingstall to unpack how our brains handle ambiguity, why fear of making mistakes can keep us stuck, and how intolerance of uncertainty feeds into hoarding behaviours. We break down practical ways to build up your tolerance for not knowing and share some strategies that might actually make a difference. Uncertainty and Its Challenges Definition and context of uncertainty Evolutionary reasons for discomfort with uncertainty (Selfish Brain Theory) Contrast between historical resource scarcity and modern abundance Our minds' outdated ways of managing uncertainty Cognitive Closure What is cognitive closure? Difference between cognitive closure (psychological need for definite answers) and “closure” in pop culture (emotional resolution) How it relates to need for certainty in present/future, not just past events The creation of cognitive closure measurement scales by researchers Factors influencing need for cognitive closure: Personality traits: Conscientiousness, neuroticism (now called emotionality), openness to experience, extroversion Trauma history and its effects on the nervous system Neurodivergence (with emphasis on autism and “sticky thinking”) Combination of personality, trauma, and neurodivergence Intolerance of Uncertainty Psychological definition of intolerance of uncertainty Negative cognitive bias: How it affects perception and response Manifestations in people experiencing uncertainty as distress Its direct relevance to hoarding behaviours The Link Between Hoarding Disorder and Intolerance of Uncertainty Research findings: intolerance of uncertainty as a predictor of hoarding symptom severity Usefulness in early intervention strategies intolerance of uncertainty as a transdiagnostic factor (across anxiety, some depression, and other mental health conditions) How heightened anxiety sensitivity in hoarding perpetuates avoidance Experiential avoidance in hoarding (saving and acquiring behaviours) Connection between maladaptive behaviours and intolerance of uncertainty Fear of Making Mistakes and Perfectionism Common fears of mistakes in hoarding (disposing, acquiring, putting things away) Perfectionism's role (fear of failure, not wasting) All-or-nothing thinking and rigid decision-making rules Paralysing effect of avoidance due to fear of mistakes Not making a decision as a potential mistake itself Interaction and reinforcement between perfectionism and intolerance of uncertainty Comorbidity and Severity Research on multiple diagnoses: More than half of psychiatric patients have more than one diagnosis Diagnostic challenges and overlapping criteria How comorbidity compounds issues: More symptoms and more complexity Higher intolerance of uncertainty linked with more severe hoarding, especially when other conditions are present Impact on treatment difficulty intolerance of uncertainty's Impact on Acquiring and Discarding Behaviours How acquiring reduces fear of missing out and future needs Difficulty discarding as protection against future regret Shame around mistake-making Common inner questions: Future use, responsibility, relationships More complexity leading to more avoidance Nuances in intolerance of uncertainty and Hoarding Study on sub-factors of uncertainty: Factor 1: Negative self-referential implications (linked to hoarding severity) Factor 2: Perception of uncertainty as unfair (not linked) Internal vs. external perspectives on uncertainty Relevance of anxiety-driven self-criticism Changing Relationship to Uncertainty: Curiosity and Reframing Rilke's quote on “loving the questions” Transforming approach from fear to curiosity Curiosity as a therapeutic tool Creativity in imagining alternatives and solutions Relevance of loss aversion and cognitive biases Modern Life and Uncertainty Intolerance Research linking increased use of technology (instant answers) to rising intolerance of uncertainty Smartphone/information overload and decreased tolerance “muscle” Relevance to hoarding (desire for backups, information saving) Example: IMDb, screenshots, saving digital info Treatment Strategies Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) effects on intolerance of uncertainty in anxiety Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and exposure-based methods: Pros and cons Importance of a therapist experienced in error-related distress and uncertainty Key skills: Observing distress, sitting with uncomfortable feelings, gradual exposure Self-help approaches: Reframing mistakes as learning Practicing self-compassion Values-based decision-making Systematic exposure to small errors Gradually breaking rigid rules (e.g., waste, tidiness) Recognising individual differences and seeking appropriate support Embracing Mistakes and Humanity Learning from therapist/client anecdotes Cultural expectations around perfectionism vs. real human messiness How mistakes can be positive or even entertaining Letting go of the need for perfection The Four Cs for Managing Uncertainty From Elizabeth Weingarten: Curiosity, Conversation, Community, Commitment How to foster each: Curiosity: Approach with questions and exploration Conversation: Discuss uncertainties with trusted people Community: Build social support Commitment: Dedication to exploring questions and knowing when to let go Links Hillman, S. A 46-year old man is admitted to hospital following a first time presentation of psychosis that involved barricading himself inside a neighbour's home. At admission he appears disorganised with slow movements and speech. His rambling reveals bizarre delusional beliefs of a paranoid and persecutory nature. At moments he shows aggression towards staff but when examines reports occasional dizziness and an intolerance of cold. Physical examination reveals cool peripheries, sparse axillary and pubic hair, and soft adult-sized testicles. The investigating team suspect hypothyroidism and a complex series of investigations and therapies follows.Guests Dr Peak Man Mah FRACP (Lyell McEwin Hospital, University of Adelaide) Dr Malcolm Borg (Royal Adelaide Hospital) HostsAssociate Professor Stephen Bacchi FRACP (Lyell McEwin Hospital; University of Adelaide)Mic Cavazzini DPhilProductionProduced by Stephen Bacchi and Mic Cavazzini. The newest episode of The Chemical Sensitivity Podcast is available now! It's called “Chemical Intolerance & the Body.” I'm speaking with Linus Andersson, associate professor in the Department of Psychology at Umeå University in Sweden. His carefully designed experiments have shown how people with Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) or Chemical Intolerance (CI) react to small amounts of chemicals. You'll hear Linus explore: · How he believes 1 in 10 people in Scandinavia have severe MCS/CI.· The important research he has done with people with MCS/CI.· How chemicals impact different bodily systems in people with the illness. · If there could be a test people could take to confirm a diagnosis with MCS/CI.· His conviction that MCS/CI is not a psychological disorder.· And more!Thank you for listening! Are you truly allergic to dairy or just intolerant? Can headaches, joint pain or fatigue be signs of hidden allergies? And what about those online food intolerance tests? Can you trust them?In this episode, Dr Helen brings clarity and evidence to the confusing world of food allergies, intolerances and sensitivities. We cover:
On Saturday, Destiny Church held a protest in the Auckland CBD under the slogan “no immigration without assimilation”, denouncing non-Christian religions and other groups in Aotearoa. The demonstration, which Destiny Church leader Brian Tamaki described as a “lawful, peaceful protest”, involved the destruction and burning of flags including the Palestinian flag and the Rainbow Pride flag. Leaders from a collection of ethnic community groups have called for the toughening of hate speech laws in response to the intolerance displayed at this protest action, which political figures like Deputy Prime Minister David Seymour and Police Minister Mark Mitchell condemned as “unkiwi”, and “vile rhetoric and behaviour”. Seeking to dive deeper into the issue of extremism and hostility towards diverse cultures in New Zealand, I spoke with far right and alt-right extremism expert Byron Clark about the protest and the existence of these groups in Aotearoa. Producer Sara began the interview by asking Clark to explain the kind of ideologies that were on display at the protest.

Welcome back to our weekend Cabral HouseCall shows! This is where we answer our community's wellness, weight loss, and anti-aging questions to help people get back on track! Check out today's questions: Patrick: Hey doc. This question is for my mom. She's in her mid 70s and right now just about all her meals are processed food. Her breakfast and lunch are usually French toast sticks and waffles. She believes she's getting her nutrition from that because of the marketing and labels saying how much protein and vitamins are in them. Her dinners are about the same being a frozen dinner with a few vegetables in it . Can you just go over how it's all marketing and this isn't healthy at all. I look forward to your answer so I can listen to it with her. Thanks for all you do Susan: Thanks for all you do. Love your podcasts. My question, you talk a lot about sauna/sweating/detox. I have a real intolerance for heat, It's been really noticeable the last few years. I was never much of a sweater even playing a lot of tennis. I'm more likely to overheat, turn all shades of color, but rarely do I actually drip sweat. On rare occasions, tolerate a infrared sauna, but I usually can't wait to get out of there. Years ago, I did a genetic test and there were indications that I don't detox well. Wonder if thats involved. Also, I have crohns and had a subtotal colectomy just over 6 years ago. It has definitely been worse the last 5 years for sure. I'm a 65 year old female. Can a sauna actually ever be not a good thing to do? Gut health may never be great. Ann: Quick question, i realize I won't get the answer this time, but I'll be ready for the next time. When you have a virus, coughing, sinus, headaches...... is that a good time to start a 7 day detox? would the detox help get rid of the virus faster? And if so, is it wise to stop the protocol you are on at the time and just do the detox? Ann: In November while watching a play I felt a stinging sensation and pain and hotness and swelling on my right hand. I could see a small puncture hole and figured something bit me. I kept checking my throat to make sure it was nothing serious. I took a benedryl the next few nights then forgot about it. Months later I asked my dr to check it had an xray which showed a bone not attached to anything. Doesnt hurt but now its seems to be getting bigger. Its off to the right of my pinky knuckle. Is it possible that my body calcified the poison from the bite or turned into a bone? its crazy! What are your thoughts? leave it? remove it? wish i could insert the xray for you to see. Thanks for listening, I always appreciate your advice. Ann: Hi Dr. Cabral- I've heard you mention various ways to use both the Universal Binder and the Daily Digestive Enzymes outside of a detox or specific protocols. Can you give us a list of other ways to use them and the dosing (for example how to use the Universal Binder if you think you ate something that isn't agreeing with you, or before a flex meal). Do you ever finish a beautiful quilt, only to immediately notice the three tiny mistakes instead of celebrating the masterpiece you created? If so, you're not alone. Many of us struggle to embrace success—we focus on what's wrong instead of what's right. In this episode, I break down why we have such a hard time allowing ourselves to feel good and how that impacts our lives. When we constantly reject our own success, we can fall into cycles of overeating, overspending, or over-scrolling to fill the emotional gap. But there's a way out! I also share a powerful coaching moment from inside my membership, where a client lost 80 pounds, regained 20, and learned to reframe her progress instead of spiraling into self-doubt. You'll learn: ✅ Why success feels uncomfortable and how your brain tries to “protect” you from it ✅ How to identify your internal success thermostat and adjust it ✅ A simple mindset shift to start embracing and sustaining your wins If you're tired of self-sabotage and want to feel better without guilt, this episode is for you!
