I chat to my first guest Jo Pope.  Jo and her husband started and ran Robin Pope Safaris in the South Luangwa national park of Zambia.  Jo has been a friend and business associate for many years and must be certainly considered the mother of Zambian Tourism.  Jo has never stopped growing or learning along the way and has been so influential in putting Zambia and its national parks on the radar as some of the most pristine bush veld in Africa.  Robin Pope her husband has also been considered one of the best game guides in Africa.  From and early childhood Robin started cultivating and extraordinary knowledge of all aspects of the the African bushveld. The episode covers the early years of Jo's nomadic and different childhood to meeting Robin the the South Luangwa, to the beginnings of Robin Pope Safaris, the challenges of running a safari operation in a remote area.Jo and Robin also have a passion for travel and we chat about some of her favourite places in Africa and beyond. We also discuss the implications of COVID-19 on the tourism industry and its effect on a non profit organisation, Project Luangwa.  Tourism has been such a contributing factor on the economy and livelihood of the local people around these national parks that we discuss possible sustainable solutions around keeping revenue flowing into a fantastic education system that is fuelled by the tourism industry.
