#8 Hanging Out on Online w/ Nick Schrader and Josiah Tipton

So we've all been spending a lot more time at home lately, and part of that means we don't get to hang out with our friends like we used to do before. I figured I would cope with that by bringing 2 of my best friends on the show, Nick Schrader and Josiah Tipton, to talk about what's been going on in our lives lately. We talk about the virus (who hasn't been talking about it?), staying creative, and different approaches to creating in our own respective art forms. I hope you enjoy.    Are you looking to get better at music production? Ever since streaming platforms became a thing, there are more and more people who are listening to music nowadays. Not only that, but people are consuming more than they ever have before as well. As a producer and a songwriter, there is more opportunity now than there ever was before too. You have more places to put your song, and more potential people to reach. Your audience is waiting to find what you have to bring them. But in today's busy, noisy world, how can you stand a better chance of getting to them? Today I share with you what I think is the single most important element of any song you will ever write, hands down. It's the part of your song that people will remember, or not remember, and is the part that gives you your chance to make an impression on a listener. I have some tips for you on how to improve this part of your song, so those listeners will stay tuned in to your next song, and be glad they did! Get some free samples to start making music today! I'm super excited to be bringing this episode to you guys! Back in January, not long after the new year was ushered in, I got a chance to sit down and have this conversation with my friend Jake. Jake is incredible musician and songwriting, and just all-around down-to-earth human being. He's an easy going, kind type of guy. Our conversation centered around how he writes songs, how he records his songs, how he approaches the mixing of his songs, and what he thinks about collaborating. It's a conversation that's well worth the listen, and I'm glad we got to have it.  Want some free samples? Join my email list today! #2 It Starts with Showing Up

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 1, 2019 25:44

All too often we tell ourselves, whether consciously or unconsciously, that if we just think long enough, hard enough, or envision enough, our music production goals will naturally just happen. While it's important to envision yourself succeeding at your goals, I'm here to tell you today that is simply not going to be enough. You have to show up and do the actual work, in all it's messiness and imperfections. As Steven Pressfield writes in one of my favorite books, "It's the not the writing part that's hard. What's hard is sitting down to write." Furthermore, he also says, "The amateur believes he must first overcome his fear; then he can do his work. The professional knows that fear can never be overcome." To me, this is just another way of saying that you have to get over yourself and your own need for things turn out as good as you wish they could be. You won't have a finished product on your first demo, so stop letting it be an excuse for not writing it. I'm as guilty of this as anyone around, but I've recently turned the corner and started cranking out imperfect demos anyway. Are you ready to join me?  I have an offer for you: if you join my email list today, I will send you my very own sample pack I've created with high-quality, instant inspiration ready samples for you to use on your next project. There are samples in every key, totaling over 40 of them! Follow this link to join my email list today:  https://mailchi.mp/e5fd6a74baae/ssapodcastsignup

I'm very excited to be sharing this interview me and my friend Nick did with Christoffer Franzen, the Gothenburg, Sweden based composer and songwriter. This interview was part of my last podcast, and was done in late 2016, but it is still as relevant as ever. Christoffer has very keen musical instincts that are rare in most songwriters, and his productions keep the listener engaged every moment of the song. In this interview we dive in to some topics such as: his background in music, how he got started playing, what it's like to be feel isolated as a writer, his insomnia, and some specific song breakdowns. It's a great interview you won't want to miss. Thanks for listening! If you enjoy the show, please leave us a good review on your listening platform of choice.
