Modern computers are faster than ever, yet much of our software feels slower, heavier, and more frustrating to use. In this episode of Hanselminutes, Scott talks with Vjekoslav Krajačić, creator of File Pilot, about bringing speed and responsiveness back to everyday tools.Vjekoslav built File Pilot as a reaction to bloated file managers and laggy interfaces, focusing on instant feedback, keyboard-first workflows, and a UI that feels immediate. We talk about what actually makes software feel fast, why modern frameworks often work against that goal, and how users instinctively know when an app respects their time. This is a conversation about restraint, craft, and why fast UIs still matter.https://filepilot.tech
What if the fastest path to reliable clean electricity is not a new reactor design, but a new place to put one? In this conversation, Paul Shapiro speaks with Elizabeth Muller, CEO of Deep Fission, about a plan to place a conventional pressurized water reactor roughly a mile underground to use geology, gravity, and groundwater for containment, pressure, and emergency cooling, potentially cutting total nuclear costs by as much as 80%. They unpack how a narrow borehole reactor could serve always-on demand from data centers and industrial users, what "proven tech combined in a new way" really means, how safety and groundwater concerns are handled through regulation and engineering practices, and the practical milestones from pilot to commercial operation so listeners can evaluate what it would take for underground nuclear to scale. Things You Will Learn How putting a conventional reactor in a mile-deep borehole can replace major above-ground systems and cut nuclear cost drivers. How Deep Fission thinks about worst-case scenarios, groundwater protection, and regulatory proof points. What milestones convert LOIs into power purchase agreements, and what timelines look like for early deployment. Tools & Frameworks Covered Geology-as-infrastructure – Uses rock, gravity, and water to replace containment and pressurization systems. Mature-tech recombination – Combines proven reactors, drilling, and geothermal heat transfer to speed time to market. Pilot-to-commercial pathway – Separates "go critical" demonstration from commercial electricity generation milestones. Episode Timestamps 04:55 – Why a mile underground could cut nuclear costs by about 80% 08:47 – Borehole size, reactor dimensions, and how the hardware fits 09:31 – Replacement strategy, sealing, and stacking long-term operations 19:45 – Groundwater and safety concerns, what regulators need to see 21:43 – Timeline to power, DOE pilot program, and moving toward commercialization #BusinessForGood #CleanEnergy #NuclearEnergy #EnergyInnovation #ClimateSolutions

Pro pilot doesn't have to mean airline pilot. Longtime corporate pilot and safety advocate Mark McIntyre explains the appeal of business aviation, why safety has to be the focus for a flight department, the unique challenges of international flying, and how to use new debriefing tools to fly safer. Mark began his career as a seaplane pilot, so he also shares lessons learned in this demanding environment. In the Ready to Copy segment, you'll hear about the best seaplane, managing fatigue, and fun places to fly in the Pacific Northwest.SHOW LINKS:* NBAA international operations: https://nbaa.org/aircraft-operations/international/* Kenmore Air: https://kenmoreair.com/* Pilot's Tip of the Week: https://pilotworkshop.com/tip

In this episode of Behind the Prop, Bobby Doss and Wally Mulhern reflect on the lessons learned from flying in 2025 and use those experiences to frame practical pilot resolutions for the year ahead. The conversation opens with an honest discussion about why there is no such thing as a perfect flight, even for pilots with tens of thousands of hours. From automation surprises in advanced aircraft to long, weather-impacted piston flights, Bobby and Wally share real examples that reinforce the importance of staying mentally engaged and maintaining strong manual flying skills.Bobby recounts earning his Vision Jet type rating and the humbling moments that followed, including approach errors caused by mode confusion and overreliance on automation. These experiences highlight how quickly situations can escalate when pilots assume the airplane will “fix it” for them. Wally adds his own “never again” lesson involving fuel planning, where chasing cheaper fuel led to delays, extra flying, and higher costs. Together, these stories underscore a core theme of the episode: reliability, preparation, and judgment matter more than convenience or marginal savings. The hosts dive into personal minimums and proficiency, challenging pilots to reevaluate their limits as skills, experience, and operating environments change. They discuss why flying IFR, especially in actual weather, is mentally fatiguing and why proficiency can erode quickly without regular practice. Wally uses sports analogies to explain the importance of gradually building confidence in real conditions, while Bobby emphasizes aligning personal minimums with terrain, weather, and familiarity—not just legal minimums or flight school standards. The episode also explores how pilots can elevate their skills by using instructors strategically and taking advantage of programs like FAA WINGS. Rather than viewing instructor time as a burden, Bobby and Wally encourage pilots to treat it as an opportunity to sharpen skills, gain confidence, and reduce the need for formal flight reviews. They close by offering goal-setting guidance for student pilots, advanced trainees, and aspiring airline pilots, urging each group to balance knowledge, hands-on flying, and giving back to the aviation community. This episode serves as a reminder that growth in aviation comes from reflection, humility, and commitment. By documenting lessons learned, reassessing personal limits, and setting intentional goals, pilots can make the coming year safer, more rewarding, and more professionally fulfilling.
This week, we dive deep into the evolving world of digital dentures with George Cowburn, along with denturist Robert MacLeay and digital designer Kaylee Jilbert. George shares his unconventional path from engineering into dentures, the early challenges of bringing CAD/CAM into removables, and why his company Perfit has evolved into Lab Pilot (https://www.labpilot.net/)—a cloud-based approach designed to meet labs and denturists where they are, not where software companies wish they'd be. Robert and Kaylee bring the real-world perspective, explaining how combining analog fundamentals with digital design unlocked predictable, better-fitting dentures and titanium partial frameworks that actually snap into place. From monolithic milled partials to same-day digital relines and cloud-based CAM without subscriptions, this conversation explores how “trad-digital” workflows could finally make digital dentures accessible, scalable, and practical for everyday labs—without sacrificing fit, function, or sanity. Happy Holidays from Ivoclar! As the year comes to a close, all of us at Ivoclar want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the incredible Voices From the Bench community. Thank you for your partnership, your trust, and the support you've shown throughout the year. From our Ivoclar family to yours, we wish you a joyful, healthy, and safe holiday season. May your days be merry, your nights be bright, and your smiles shine like freshly fallen snow. Ho, ho, ho — Happy Holidays from Ivoclar! Big news is coming your way in the world of CAM. Our friends at Ivoclar have teamed up with FOLLOW-ME! Technology (https://www.follow-me-tech.com/) to bring the Ivotion Denture System (https://www.ivoclar.com/en_us/products/digital-processes/ivotion) into the HyperDent CAM (https://www.follow-me-tech.com/hyperdent/) workflow. That's right—your favorite pre-shaded, two-layer Ivotion discs, the ones that let you design and mill a complete denture in one seamless process with no bonding and no mess, are now moving beyond closed systems. Thanks to this new partnership, Ivotion can finally be milled on open machines through HyperDent. And it gets better: you'll first see this powerful workflow available on the Roland DWX-53 series mills (https://www.rolanddga.com/products/dental/dwx-53d)—already a staple in so many labs—as well as the Imagine iMills (https://www.imagineusa.com/legacy/s/mills/imill). If you've been waiting for a faster, cleaner, more flexible way to produce full dentures, this is it. Ivoclar and FOLLOW-ME! just made the future of denture manufacturing wide open. Get ready—HyperDent is about to change the way you mill Ivotion. Special Guests: George Cowburn, Kaylee Jilbert , and Robert MacLeay .
The first time he lifted an Apache off the ground, it felt like piloting a floating bus. The first time he said “no” to what he believed was an unlawful mandate, it felt like stepping into a different kind of combat. In this candid, high-velocity conversation, a National Guard Apache pilot walks us through SEER school realities, gunnery exhilaration, and the boredom of a deployment constrained by a peace deal that tied hands while allies bled. Then the fight comes home: policy-by-whisper, moving goalposts, and a refusal to file for exemptions because conscience, oath, and regulation mattered more than convenience. To watch the intensity of this entire episode, the full episode is here: https://youtu.be/Vbp61FnTQHAWhen leaders wouldn't put groundings in writing and mental health became a pretext, he documented everything and spoke out. The video went viral not because it was loud, but because it was clear. We unpack the blowback that never came from the public, the board that's coming anyway, and the question every service member must answer: who are you accountable to when orders and integrity collide? From there we shift into faith and institutions. He separates belief in Christ and original texts from corporate religion, calling out secrecy, money incentives, and ever-shifting rules as un-Christlike. No barbs for sport—just a standard: test paths by their fruits. If it grows honesty, sacrifice, and love, keep going. If it demands secrecy and obedience without light, step away. Finally, we wade into pornography as a spiritual and cultural weapon. This isn't moralizing; it's a field manual. Accountability with a trusted friend, device discipline, and a higher aim—purity as strength—can reset attention, intimacy, and confidence. He's living proof. If you care about courage, conscience, and the kind of brotherhood that makes men harder to buy and harder to break, press play. Ashlyn is an international airline pilot from South Florida whose journey to the flight deck started long before she ever touched the controls. Inspired by her dad's constant traveling and the pilot friends who kept telling her how incredible the job was, Ashlyn's curiosity about flying took off early. For her 17th birthday, her dad surprised her with flight lessons. She was terrified at first… and immediately hooked. While earning a biology degree in college, Ashlyn kept flying, balancing textbooks with time in the sky. After graduation, she made the bold decision to finish her flight hours, working as a flight instructor to build experience. That dedication paid off when she was hired by a regional airline, and today she flies international routes for a major airline. Ashlyn shares what pilot training is really like, the unique atmosphere and teamwork among flight crews, and how she manages jet lag, sleep, and life across time zones. Most of all, her gratitude for this career shines through and I'm genuinely thankful to have met her and to share her story with you. If you've ever wondered what it takes to become a pilot or what life looks like at 35,000 feet, this episode is for you

Bryan has had the privilege of talking with Rian Johnson twice for Script Magazine, once for Knives Out and once for Wake Up Dead Man. Both times they talked about his philosophy on writing and both times it touched on techniques and ideas that intersected with things that were relevant to his work on The Last Jedi. Though these interviews focus on the craft of writing and deal as much with Rian's other movies as they do Star Wars, we hope fans of Star Wars and Full of Sith will enjoy them.

We have an investor on our show who primarily makes long-term investing trades... and also happens to be our brother! Is there any overlap with what he does and with daytrading, and what can we learn from his ability to hold through long periods of downturn? Apologies on the audio issues :)
Retired Fighter Pilot Lt. Col. Tammy Barlette shares how flying the A-10 prepared her for operating UAVs like the MQ-1.In this episode, she discusses the Warthog's capabilities, combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan, controlling the Predator and Reaper drones, returning to jets after a spinal injury, and how she now shares lessons from the flight deck as a mental performance trainer. As air superiority continues to shift from cockpits to control rooms, we get an inside look at why the pilot's role is more complex than ever before. As we have all foreseen, Julie has taken over the show again for our 2025 Holiday special and has done her best to find something actually Christmas-y this year. Digging into the depths of the strange children shows of the UK, we came across the wonder that is Worzel Gummidge. We tried to make due by just watching the pilot from series 1 and the Christmas special from series 3, with very mixed results. Join us as we discuss the likelihood of both Worzel and the Crowman murdering children, Anthony wondering if this could be where Adam Sandler got some inspiration, is this really as unhinged as Julie anticipated it being, and could this whole story be potentially set in a post-apocalyptic world? Julie also wonders if she'll ever get out of the basement after Anthony's unenthusiasm of this entire experience. SYNOPSIS:The lines often get blurred in Moonlighting, and this is one example. David is still in prison, and nobody knows where he is. It's not only his friends who are wondering where he is; it's also network executives. They seek the services of a fortune teller, who uses a crystal ball in an attempt to locate David, but all she sees are bars. Following this, they begin auditioning to find a replacement. We begin to see the auditions, with men in line all dressed up in various outfits that David wore in previous episodes. David is released from solitary confinement and placed in a work gang, where his fellow convicts advise him to marry Maddie.Bert is using his new, temporary title of Blue Moon supervisor, awarded to him by David, to put the employees in line. David witnesses illegal activities by a prison guard, who is about to kill him, but fortunately, a riot starts, allowing David to escape unnoticed. Agnes and Bert decide to start investigating the whereabouts of “Mr. Addison.”The episode features a lengthy musical number performed by the prisoners in the style of "When I Was a Lad" from Gilbert and Sullivan's H.M.S. Pinafore.MOONLIGHTING THE TV SHOWThe show is all about the hit TV Show Moonlighting which aired from 1985 to 1989 starring Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd.Grace Chivell and Shawna Saari take a look at each episode in chronological order from the Pilot to the end of the fifth and final season. They discuss the direction, the production, the outfits, the lighting, the car chases, and the tumultuous relationship between Maddie Hayes and David Addison.FOR MORE INFORMATION:https://moonlightingthepodcast.comMOONLIGHTING COMMUNITY:Fans Facebook Group:Facebook Page:Instagram Twitter/XPURCHASE:Moonlighting: An Episode Guide Bookon TuckerDSPressOR on Amazon:Moonlighting MerchandiseSubscribe to our YouTube Channel Learn more about Grace here:Learn more about Shawna here:Donate at Ko-fi.comPersonal Instagram:https://instagram.com/grace_chivellhttps://instagram.com/saari_not.saari Hosted on Acast. Welcome back, Pilot. Today, Nik brings a straight-from-the-heart solo episode built around a hard truth in aviation and life: People are jealous of your results, but they're not jealous of your journey. A simple comment overheard at a function sparks a deeper look into insecurity, comparison, fear, and the grit required to chase aviation dreams. This episode is all about self-awareness, humility, and rising above jealousy while still understanding where it comes from — in yourself and in others. Guest Xyla Foxlin focuses on how the FAA and the aviation community can better support mental health issues faced by pilots and other aviation professionals. Foxlin is an engineer and pilot who produced an award-winning video about pilot mental health. Her aviation journey highlights include a Young Eagles flight that cemented her fascination with aviation, owning and maintaining a Cessna 140 that she has flown from coast to coast, a 2025 visit to Oshkosh and regaining her FAA medical certificate.Foxlin discusses efforts with the Pilot Mental Health Campaign (PMHC) to push the Pilot Mental Health in Aviation Act of 2025 through the House of Representatives. She and the PMHC continue to educate the general public on the need to reform how pilot mental health issues are handled. In her personal story, Foxlin had to regain her medical certification and ability to fly after disclosing past mental health-related medical treatments. In the current FAA medical certification system, a significant percentage of pilots hide mental health conditions or avoid treatment entirely because of concern that their medical certification and their livelihood can be taken away.Greg Feith, John Goglia, and Todd Curtis share the breadth of aviation-related mental health concerns, including investigators who may be affected by their work, mechanics who committed suicide or were at risk for committing suicide after an aircraft accident, and the trauma that an entire community may face after a major plane crash. Dylan and Max are joined by Brian Small of FlightSafety International and Tim Schoenauer of CAE to explain how the manual was developed, who it's for, and how operators can actually use it—not just shelf it. They break down the regulatory intent, training implications, and where this fits into real-world Part 91 and 135 operations.
