Before it was a single season wonder on The Disney Channel and way before it became a stalwart on NBC Saturday mornings as Saved by the Bell, Good Morning, Miss Bliss had an aired pilot in summer 1987, with a different focus compared to the later series and an entirely different cast of students, which is a who's who of known actors.  A little retooling, then a little more retooling after the Disney era, and you got a beloved part of the childhoods of most every current 40-something.

The California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) introduced a “pilot entry process” for the state high school track and field championships. The rule allows additional “biological female” athletes—those who narrowly missed qualifying—to compete, aiming to ensure they aren’t displaced by transgender athletes. This change follows political pressure, including threats from President Trump to withhold federal funding. In this episode Dan and Doug discuss the mysterious case of Jim Hysong Jr. He piloted a plane, taking off from Toledo, OH and was never seen from again. Despite rumors of a crash into Lake Michigan, other stories began to appear of the plane being spotted years later. Nobody really knows what happened and the mystery continues to this day. We also discuss the mystery "ghost car" of highway 56 near Hocking hills. Some report seeing this mystery sedan to this day. It's kind of an unbelievable list of accomplishments and stunts. X-Games Skysurfing World Champion. Super Bowl Halftime winning Pepsi Commercial  pulling stunts with a goose. First ever to skydive from an exploding aircraft. First ever parachute on fire in flight... The list goes on and on.  Yet if you had asked a young Troy Hartman what he thought he was going to be when he grew up, there was only one answer. Pilot. Unfortunately, as seems to be the case over and over in life, the plan didn't exactly go the way he thought, so on to plan B...  Becoming not only a world champion skysurfer, but the ambassador for skydiving at a time when not only the US but the whole world seemed to be screaming for something extreme. Join us on this edition of Lunatic Fringe as we talk with Troy about more out of your mind tricks, stunts and lucky breaks than anyone could ever imagine, all of which have him forever linked with the Lunatic Fringe. 

Max tackles a common frustration among pilots: why RNAV (GPS) glide paths sometimes fail to couple with the autopilot. A recent Facebook post from a pilot flying a Cirrus SR22T triggered the discussion, as the poster encountered exactly this problem during an LPV approach, mistakenly attributing it to an expired database. Max explains that the real culprit was a fundamental misunderstanding of RNAV approach procedures. Unlike an ILS glide slope, which is a physical radio beam transmitted from ground equipment, an RNAV glide path is a computed construct generated by the aircraft's GPS navigator. It only becomes “real” for the autopilot to couple to when flown properly, following all step-down altitudes as published. A key indicator is the glide path diamond: it remains hollow and white until the aircraft crosses the fix before the Final Approach Fix (FAF), at which point it turns solid magenta, signaling that the autopilot can engage. Max emphasizes that this behavior contrasts with ILS approaches, where pilots sometimes get away with intercepting the glide slope from above. Doing so on RNAV approaches, however, won't work because the computed glide path isn't extended infinitely; it's activated only within a defined segment of the approach. To verify this, Max conducted simulator flights on multiple RNAV approaches.
