This is preview (full ep released to subscribers 06/03/2026) — to access all our content & to join the NM Discord, subscribe: https://patreon.com/newmodels & https://newmodels.substack.com We talk a lot on this show about the “content” layer being compromised; how, given the physics of the feed, the creative act increasingly happens at the protocol level. While this is true, good books and films and records are, in fact, still being made. On this ep, friend of New Models Steven Warwick comes by on the occasion of his two new albums — "Live at Café Oto" (P-A-N) and, from his new band with Iván Brito, GUSH, "Splash of Milk" (Huntleys + Palmers) — to chat about making music, touring, and putting out albums in 2026. https://p-a-n.org/product/steven-warwi…iveatcafeoto-pan163/ https://huntleyspalmers.bandcamp.com/album/gush…of-milk-lp For more: https://instagram.com/ohmygushhhhh https://instagram.com/sweetie_darling_bebe https://stevenwarwick.info

Hello, music lovers!  Welcome to Why Music Matters, a podcast where we examine the power and influence that music can wield in our lives.  I'm your host, musician and music journalist Jeff Miers. Recording today's episode was a real treat for me. Having Alex Khoury, Cody Tarbox, Seth Bykowski and Colin Gray - who are known collectively as Witty Tarbox - in the studio with me, with instruments in hand and plenty of stories to tell, felt like one of those cool spontaneous backyard hangs around the fire-pit. A moment you didn't see coming, but that arrived with an air of familiarity. Like, we've all been here before, even though we just met.  As you'll hear, these four musicians are a band of brothers, a group of guys who found their musical tribe when they met each other, and allowed a unique, rootsy, rustic, and rockin' sound to develop organically. They come from different backgrounds, and possess widely varied skill sets, but when they lock in together, something magical that is well beyond the sum of its parts emerges.  The band recently travelled to the fabled Dreamland Recording Studios, just outside Woodstock, NY, to track what became their new album, Midnight Sun. We talked about that experience, and the guys performed some of the material that emerged from those sessions live here at 678 Main Studios. What emerged is one of my favorite episodes of the podcast to date.  So make yourself comfortable, pour yourself a cold one if you're so inclined, and come hang with us for a little while.  Welcome to Why Music Matters, Witty Tarbox…

It lands April 7, 2026, and it's a raucous, heartfelt story about making art, making mistakes, and trying to figure yourself out while the volume is turned way up. The book follows Hannah Lipsky, an art-school dropout reeling from a breakup who finds herself living in a flophouse and getting pulled into singing for a campy horror-punk band—costumes included. From there it's band dynamics, creative ambition, relationship mess, and that early-adulthood feeling of “I have no idea what I'm doing… but I'm doing it anyway.” We talk about building a full-length graphic novel (216 pages), how Dave and Nicole shaped the tone, what punk lets you say that other genres don't, and what Dave hopes readers walk away with when the last chord hits.   The Title sequence was designed and created by Morgan Quaid. Send Steve a Text MessageFeeling stuck even with endless lessons, tabs, and shiny gear at your fingertips? We dig into the surprising reason progress stalls for so many players: overload. From preset chasing to YouTube grazing, we unpack six traps that quietly drain your focus and lay out a practical framework to turn short, daily sessions into real, measurable growth. We start by calling out the biggest culprits—gear distraction and information bloat—and share simple ways to reduce friction: limit tone-tweaking to a scheduled window, cap your lesson sources, and keep a living “Now, Next, Later” list so today's work is obvious. Then we build a clear practice structure that fits real life: technique for clean mechanics, fretboard fluency to connect shapes and keys, and repertoire that serves your goals instead of just your playlist. You'll hear how to choose songs that strengthen the exact skills you're training, and how just a few constraints can elevate phrasing, dynamics, and time feel.We also talk about protecting depth by shutting down device distractions and using focused, intentional minutes. The “new thing trap” gets a spotlight too—why that fresh lick feels amazing at first and how to balance it with review so older gains do not fade. By the end, you'll have three anchors to guide every session: clarity about what you want, structure that turns goals into drills, and consistency that compounds, even when you only have 15 minutes. If you're ready to trade scattered effort for steady progress, hit play, build your plan, and start seeing movement in your hands and ears. Subscribe, share this with a guitarist who needs focus, and leave a review to tell us the one change you'll make this week. Thanks for being here!! Poducer | The Podcast for Producers In this episode of Poducer, the podcast for producers, we sit down with VCTRE (Vector), a Denver-based producer and artist navigating the balance between creativity, consistency, and building a sustainable lane in today's music world. From curating his own shows and designing the full experience around them to figuring out how to promote without feeling corny, VCTRE breaks down what it looks like to take real ownership over your project instead of waiting for opportunities to show up. We talk about why just posting a flyer doesn't cut it anymore, how his relationship with content changed, and what finally clicked for him about being himself online. On the creative side, we get into remix culture, jumping into trends without losing your identity, and how he decides what to release when he's sitting on a ton of music. VCTRE opens up about moving away from “producing for producers,” trusting his own taste more, and finding inspiration in underground scenes, SoundCloud rabbit holes, and organic collaborations. We also touch on the less glamorous parts of the process: managing an ADD brain, staying productive without burning out, building routines (including the gym arc), and keeping music exciting when it starts to feel like work. We wrap with reflections on community, curated shows vs chasing hype, collaboration over isolation, and how to keep building a long-term vision without losing the joy of making music in the first place. The conversation offers a rare inside look at how brands and agencies actually choose music, and what producers need to understand if they want to land real commercial placements.Eric breaks down how music is sourced for advertising in Japan, including how creative decisions are made, why relationships matter more than cold pitches, and how Japanese and Western expectations around sync, licensing, and royalties can differ. He explains the concept of “tie-ups,” upfront fees, and why some advertising music deals function very differently than traditional backend royalty models. They also get into practical pitching advice for producers and composers, including what makes an outreach email worth opening, why personalization matters, and how professionalism, reliability, and communication often outweigh raw talent. Eric shares his strong stance on not delivering full stems at the final stage, explaining how protecting the approved mix helps preserve the original creative intent. The episode explores cross-cultural communication, Japanese business etiquette, and the role of trust when working with clients. They also discuss AI in advertising music, where automation may increase, and why taste, branding, human judgment, and imperfection still hold real value. This episode is a must-listen for producers, composers, and engineers interested in sync, advertising, international music work, and building sustainable creative careers through relationships rather than hype. Have you ever noticed yourself pulling away from your creativity — even though making music is something you love? In this episode, we explore why singers and songwriters disconnect from their creativity, voice, or songwriting practice — and why this distance is often a form of self-protection, not failure. We'll talk about the vulnerability of making music, the pressure to “do it right,” and the quiet ways perfectionism, overwhelm, or life changes can cause us to step back from our creative selves. Most importantly, I'll share gentle, grounded ways to return to making music without forcing inspiration or waiting to feel confident first. This isn't about discipline or fixing yourself — it's about rebuilding trust with your voice and your creativity. If you're a singer-songwriter who's been feeling disconnected, stuck, or unsure how to begin again, this episode is for you.
