The Surf Dads podcast is exactly what it sounds like, we're dads who surf. We'll be talking about parenting, marriage to our amazing and supportive wives, our too many surfboards and of course surfing. We're based in South Florida, not the world's surf mecca, so we'll often talk about local issues and the challenges we face trying to catch decent waves. But we'll also muse on more general surf topics and happenings in our lives. The goal: provide a platform to share ideas that we think a lot of surf dads out there can relate to. We hope to make a fun and informative experience for our listeners.
In this episode, we discuss a scary injury one of our family members suffered while surfing, the importance of being prepared for those situations, hurricane season and surfing in debris-filled lineups, our pending winter season and more...
Join us for a talk about our hurricane season so far, some winter forecast talk, a pop up speed convo and how we dads roll for Halloween.
Join us as we discuss sending kids to college, our long flat spell, Will's shaping adventures and my promise to stop buying new shortboards (for now).
Join us as we discuss our summer waves (more than usual), what we thought of surfing's first appearance in the Olympics and the new WSL format used to determine the world title.
It's summer and nothing says summer like flat days and kid waves. So it's a perfect time to explore the world of soft to foam boards. In our first minisode, I review two models I recently tried out: the Softtech Flash and Catch Surf RNF (by Lost). I was looking for a board that provided a good "funformance" blend. I wanted something that would be easy for my son to ride while also providing some performance aspects beyond your typical foamy log/Wavestorm-type board. I was pleasantly surprised! Take a listen...
Tune in for our first new podcast in several months. We start by offering an apology to our fans for being unable to produce one quicker and then discuss last year's surf season. Our next podcast will be on how to survive the summer doldrums.
So we previously had the free version of our podcast hosting service. The issue, it deleted episodes after 90 days. You may have noticed some disappearing. Well, we finally opened the checkbook, and we now pay for the service so you'll never lose your favorite episode again. To celebrate, I've hand selected one of our fav episodes from last fall that was deleted and re-posted it for your listening pleasure. We like this one because we discuss Will's first trip to surf Florida's Panhandle on the gulf coast. If you don't live in Florida, you probably don't know that this is about a 9-hour drive from our home surf area of South Florida. So, driving up there takes commitment! Enjoy!
In this episode, Will and I discuss the magical winter wonderland of surf that can bless Florida during our "cold" months. We talk about wet suits, safety and the types of swells we typically see. Enjoy our latest chat fest!
We discuss holiday gift ideas for those looking for something special for that special surfer, whether beginning or advanced, in their life.
In this episode we discuss the various surf forecasting apps, software and other tools out there. We go into some detail about how we use them in South Florida and give some tips and tricks on how to lock in on a wave event at your local break.
