We are excited to have Listener Andrew from Utah back on the show today to share a trip that is perfect for this week! Today, we talk about the trip his family took to Disney's Pop Century Resort last August, but this trip started as a family gift under the Christmas Tree! We discuss the thoughts on this, the reveal and planning to start the show! Then, we hear about the travel across the country, first experience with a Disney Water Park at Typhoon Lagoon, visiting all four theme parks, including Epcot After Hours, and some great meals like Topolino's Terrace for breakfast and Steakhouse '71 for lunch and much more! We hope you can continue the conversation with us this week in the Be Our Guest Podcast Clubhouse at www.beourguestpodcast.com/clubhouse! Thank you so much for your support of our podcast! Go to www.LearningLeader.com for full show notes This is brought to you by Insight Global. If you need to hire one person, hire a team of people, or transform your business through Talent or Technical Services, Insight Global's team of 30,000 people around the world has the hustle and grit to deliver. My Guest: Nick Gray is the author of The Two-Hour Cocktail Party and founder of Museum Hack. He's mastered the art of hosting events that strengthen networks and build genuine connections. In this conversation, he shares practical systems for hosting gatherings, why every leader needs a personal website, and lessons learned from his viral blind date trip to Tokyo. The Learning Leader Show Key Learnings Two Great Ice Breaker Questions:  What's a compliment that someone has given you that you've never forgotten about?  If you could teach any class about a topic that you're an expert on, what would it be? The power of a network is real: As a leader, you're probably hiring people regularly or looking for investors. By hosting simple, lightweight meetups or dinner parties, or happy hours once a quarter, you can strengthen your network, build it, and keep those loose connections or weak ties warm. Mix professional and personal contacts: For me, a really boring event would be all work people. Look for occupational diversity. If you're hosting a work event, invite some other random folks who you know are gonna be good conversationalists and add to the energy. Don't reach for the top shelf first. Most important advice for leaders: do not invite your most impressive contact to your very first happy hour or meetup. Your first party should be for your neighbors, the parents of kids at your school, those LinkedIn connections, high school buddies you haven't seen in a while. Your first party should be a comfortable meetup for 15 to 22 people that you host at your home with just cocktails, not a dinner party. Then slowly, once a quarter, you'll be adding more people to it and filtering your list. Collect RSVPs to ensure attendance. New hosts are absolutely terrified that nobody will arrive. As long as you get a minimum of 15 people to show up, your party will generally be a success. Use platforms like Partiful or Mixily (not Paperless Post or Evite) to get people to RSVP, let them know what to expect, and send reminder messages. Ten days before, send a reminder message hyping up the party. About a week before, send another reminder message with a little dossier of who the attendees are. Write something little: "Ryan Hawk hosts a podcast. He wrote a book. He lives in Ohio. Ask him about the ski trip he went on with his family." This serves to make anxious people or socially awkward feel like they're welcome and they have a conversational access point. Practical hosting tips on event day: Label your trash cans and your bathrooms. As people arrive, greet and welcome every single person, and make them a name tag. Write it out right in front of them, first name only. Do not pre-write your name tags. Force collisions through structured activities. Your job as a leader is to go through life collecting the interesting people that you meet and helping them meet each other.  Can you become a connector? One way to be a connector is to host these meetups and force the collisions. Lead two or three rounds of introductions at your meetup. Make a little announcement 30 minutes after it starts: "There are so many interesting people here. I want you all to meet each other. We're gonna split into small groups. It might seem silly, but I promise the purpose tonight is for you to talk to as many new people as possible. We're gonna split into small groups of three or four people, and you're gonna go around and tell your life story in two minutes." End on time, especially for weekday events: Host from 6:30 to 8:30 PM with a hard stop on Tuesday or Wednesday nights. People appreciate having an end time because they have responsibilities. Having that end time makes them more likely to RSVP yes and actually attend. "I get more compliments on my party ending on time, and they leave with a positive experience, so they want to return for another." Why every leader needs a personal website. If you have a blue check verified on Instagram, if you post at least once a month on LinkedIn, you probably need your own personal website. It's proactive reputation management. People are out there searching for you on Google and on ChatGPT. It may not happen every single day, but it probably happens every week. Whether it's parents of your kids at school, whether it's new employees, people are googling you. You want to have a personal website to put your best foot forward and make a good impression. Carrd.co to create a simple homepage or cloudflare to set up your domain name.  Keep it simple: You don't need a Gary Vee type page. Your page can look like a Google Doc. Feed these large language models your story and bio. My website is plain text, simple homepage. I used to have a fancy design site. Now I'm like, dude, it doesn't matter. 80% of my visitors are on their cell phone and just want to read some text and have some links. The tweet from 2024 that changed everything.  The viral Tokyo blind date trip taught me I was ready to share my life with someone. I ended up meeting my wife a couple of months after this experience because I realized I was ready. From a business perspective, one of the most interesting things while that was happening and for about a week afterwards: anyone would accept my phone call. My callbacks were instantaneous. My dial to answer fast. People were reaching out from everywhere. I was like, whoa, is this what it's like to be a celebrity? "I came back to Texas after the trip, ready to truly settle down and find a relationship and meet my now wife." Write like you talk: The best book about storytelling is Storyworthy by Matthew Dicks. Don't try to write a LinkedIn post that says "I'm happy to announce." Would you actually say that to someone? No, you wouldn't. Say it like you talk. Advice on Blind Introductions: Use a double opt-in intro. Reach out to one person first, "Hey, are you taking new clients before I connect you with a friend?" Get both parties' permission, separately - then send the email.  Give yourself a Free Day: Dan Sullivan suggests one free day a quarter from work. Make it a weekday, and even get a burner phone so you can't check your work text/emails, so you're completely disconnected from work.  The keys to being a great host/MC: Priya Parker does such a great job talking about the theory of being a good leader. The host that doesn't do a great job is the one who's too cool to care. Give explicit instructions to people. You are a ring leader for an event, and you're in charge of everyone's energy levels and keeping the show on the road.  Add value before taking value. Never send someone a message, "I'd love to pick your brain," or "I'm looking for a mentor." That is take, take, take. Think about how you can add value first. When you add value first to people, it's some sort of law of reciprocity. They're much more likely to want to help you out or do something in return. Advice for new grads in the AI era: AI and new tools are eating into the ability for companies to hire low-level employees that do grunt work. Learn how to use the tools themselves. Work with small businesses and entrepreneurs where you can make a difference. Develop a writing practice: Matthew Dicks has this activity called Homework for Life where every night you write down some note, some anecdote, something that stuck out for you. It gives you ideas about things to write about. Use AI as an editor, not a writer: Don't outsource your thinking to AI. Use the tools, understand how to use them, but don't outsource your thinking. It'll spit back something decent, but you don't want to outsource your thinking, especially as a leader. Reflection Questions Nick says your first party should be for neighbors, school parents, and LinkedIn connections you haven't seen in a while (not your most impressive contacts). Who are 15-20 people in your life that fall into this "comfortable but haven't connected recently" category that you could invite to a simple cocktail party?   He emphasizes "add value before you take value" and never says "I'd love to pick your brain." Think about someone you want to connect with. What's one specific way you could add value to them first before asking for anything in return?   Nick hosts events once a quarter to keep weak ties warm instead of trying to have individual coffee meetings with everyone. What's one relationship-building activity you're currently doing inefficiently that could be replaced with a group gathering? Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Diplomatic correspondent Lazar Berman joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today's episode. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet in Jerusalem this afternoon with the Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides. He will hold a bilateral meeting with each leader, then will host a trilateral summit, followed by statements to the press. We learn about the summit's goals. Israel has warned the Trump administration that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps may be using an ongoing military exercise focusing on missiles as cover to launch an attack on Israel, according to a Sunday report, amid fears that Jerusalem and Tehran are readying for another confrontation. At the same time, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir warned Sunday that the military will strike Israel’s enemies “wherever required, on near and distant fronts alike,” apparently hinting that Israel may again need to attack in Iran. Berman weighs in as the drums of war appear to approach. Berman sat with US Senator Lindsey Graham for a one-on-one interview yesterday in Tel Aviv. We learn how the senator believes Hamas must be given a deadline for relinquishing its weapons, after which Israel will have a green light to return to combat operations across the Gaza Strip. As phase two of the Trump peace plan's ceasefire appears stalled, will the IDF need to move in again? Check out The Times of Israel's ongoing liveblog for more updates. The weather's been playing havoc with my gardening jobs this week. Monday was a complete washout — I got rained on everywhere I went. Tuesday turned out better though, and as I'd managed to move a job forward, I suddenly had a free afternoon. Perfect timing, because the forecast showed a good blow coming in from the south — rain from noon onwards. These carp love a proper wind pushing down the lake, and it looked ideal for the next few days.I'd already spent Saturday morning going through my Fish Deeper app on the computer, marking out a handful of potential winter spots. I wanted to familiarise myself with the lake again and explore a few new areas, so I'd dropped several pins on the map as possible targets. When I arrived, there were only two swims available from the shortlist I'd picked out — one near the top of my list and one right at the bottom. Luckily, the better option was free, so I slipped straight in. First thing I always do is boot up the weather forecast again to get the most up-to-date information. As luck would have it, the rain had been pushed back by a few hours — which turned into about six — giving me plenty of dry time to set up properly and get everything sorted before the heavens opened.

Slow-speed skills matter — especially on heavy adventure motorcycles. But if that's where your training stops, there are real situations where it starts working against you. Because sometimes control doesn't come from crawling — it comes from the right momentum at the right time. Clinton Smout from SMART Performance Centre joins us to talk about what happens when the trail gets rough and the bike needs to do what it's designed to do: move. We explore how stability changes with motion, how traction and momentum work together in real terrain, and why timing — with throttle, clutch, and body position — is what separates bouncing through from riding cleanly through.

One of the greatest surprises of this journey wasn't the visions, the purging, or even the revelations; it was the people. In just four days, strangers became family. Not metaphorically. Literally. People from different countries, histories, and wounds trusted one another with their tears, their truths, their breakdowns, and their rebirths. This episode explores one of the most important distinctions of the entire experience: the environment is not secondary to the medicine—the people are the medicine. Arkana is not just a retreat center; it is a living ecosystem designed to make it safe enough to stop performing and start being real. When judgment evaporates, and egos are checked at the door, something ancient reawakens. Trust becomes the air you breathe. Authenticity becomes effortless. Healing accelerates. By the third and final night of Ayahuasca, the work had shifted. There was no war. No descent. No funerals. Grandmother wasn't teaching anymore; she was integrating. Confirming. Blessing. What once felt overwhelming now appeared as memory, perspective, and clarity. The darkness was never removed; it was revealed as temporary. And for the first time, it became clear that both the darkness and the light were never happening to me. They were moving through me. Day Five introduced San Pedro, Huachuma, the Medicine of the Heart. Where Ayahuasca turns you inward to meet your shadows, San Pedro moves you outward into connection, unity, empathy, and love. Under the guidance of Alcides, a man who doesn't just tell stories but transmits truth, the group experienced something rare and unmistakable: collective heart coherence. Not symbolic. Not poetic. Physically real. Fourteen nervous systems beating as one. This episode captures the final transmission of the Sacred Valley: connection isn't something you create, it's what remains when you remove the barriers. The heart has always been unified. It's the ego that divides it. San Pedro didn't give us anything new; it revealed what had always been there beneath the masks, defenses, and personas. As the fire burned low beneath the Andean sky, one final truth became clear: plant medicine isn't the point, it's the doorway. Nothing fixes you. Nothing completes you. These medicines remove what was never yours to carry and reveal who you've been all along. This is the ceremony after the ceremony. And this is where the journey home truly begins. Make Sense? If you're hunting for a Christmas horror movie that isn't cozy or cute, Dead End (2003) is a nasty little gift waiting on a snowy back road. On this episode of Cutting Deep into Horror, hosts Henrique Couto & Rachael Redolfi sink into the cult Christmas chiller where the Harrington family's Christmas Eve shortcut becomes an endless nightmare of cursed highways, ghostly women in white, and a hearse that feels like it's driving straight out of the afterlife.Recorded as a holiday special (Henrique even wishes “my spookies” a very happy holidays right up top), this conversation leans hard into holiday horror vibes: the stress of family gatherings, the dread of long winter drives, and how Dead End weaponizes Christmas lights, carols, and obligation into something suffocating and surreal.Henrique and Rachael dig into the film's French indie roots and cult status—shot on 35mm for around $900,000 and later becoming a huge word-of-mouth hit on DVD—with an eye for what makes its single stretch of road feel so oppressive.   They unpack the Harrington family's bickering, secrets, and guilt; the symbolism of the woman in white and the black car; and how the twist ending recontextualizes every dark joke and cruel fate along the way. You'll also hear how Dead End stacks up against other Christmas horror classics, why it's perfect “between-holidays” viewing when you're sick of saccharine movies, and whether it deserves a bigger spot in the seasonal horror rotation alongside titles like Black Christmas and Krampus. By the end, you'll know more about Dead End than you ever thought you needed—and probably be eyeing your next late-night drive a little differently.Inside this episodeHoliday stress & family horror: How Dead End turns a simple Christmas Eve drive to the in-laws into a pressure cooker of resentment, secrets, and supernatural punishment. The woman in white & the black car: Breaking down the film's ghostly mythology, the hearse imagery, and what those apparitions say about guilt, death, and being “collected” on that endless winter road.Road-movie minimalism: Why keeping the action on one night, one family, and one stretch of forest highway makes the film feel like a bleak Christmas Twilight Zone episode.Budget vs. atmosphere: The tricks that make a ~$900k holiday horror movie feel bigger and more timeless than many larger-budget 2000s genre films. That twist ending: Henrique & Rachael's interpretation of the finale, Marion's survivor's guilt, and how the movie uses its reveal to reframe the entire Christmas Eve journey.Comparing Christmas horrors: Where Dead End sits in the holiday horror canon—and why road-trip terror might be the most relatable Christmas nightmare of all.Where to watch Dead End (2003) – U.S. streaming(Availability can change—these are current as of December 2025.)Amazon Prime Video (subscription / with ads) – Included with Prime / Prime Video with Ads https://www.primevideo.com/detail/Dead-End-2004/0HY9MUNJC4WLAX4JW97SS647H8 Tubi (free with ads) – Stream the full movie free: https://tubitv.com/movies/451127/dead-end Plex (free with ads) – Watch on Plex's on-demand movie section: https://watch.plex.tv/movie/dead-end Apple TV (rent/buy) – HD rental or purchase: https://tv.apple.com/us/movie/dead-end/umc.cmc.1iym6o3m9wnyrxwfszyeb80p4 Fandango at Home (Vudu) (rent/buy) – Digital rental and purchase: https://athome.fandango.com/content/browse/details/Dead-End/1033867

Witness Wednesday #188 Trip to Ecuador

    Walk Boldly With Jesus

Play Episode Listen Later Dec 17, 2025 15:14

Today's Witness Wednesday is about my trip to Ecuador. Let me explain in a bit more detail how and why I decided to go to Ecuador. My brother-in-law, Daniel's best friend, has been in the hospital for a month now. He had a heart attack and then a stroke. Daniel sent me a message asking me to pray for his friend Anival. I then sent this prayer request out to all those I know who could pray for him. Everyone started to pray for him, and I asked Daniel for an update. He said he was still in a coma and they were waiting for him to wake up so they could do the CT scan. However, they were decreasing the sedation, and he wasn't waking up.Then Daniel asked me for more prayers as they did the CT scan, and it said that there was more damage than they thought. It showed that he still had oxygen bubbles in his brain. When I got this text message from Daniel, I relayed it to all those who were praying for him, as I feel the more specific we can pray for someone, the better, as it shows all the more glory to God when he answers our specific prayers. Then I got another message from Daniel a week or so later, saying that Anival got worse and they need him to start breathing on his own so that he can start eating, as he is not getting enough nutrients. When I got this message from Daniel, I also felt like I got a message from the Holy Spirit asking me to go to Ecuador to pray over Anibal in person. I thought this sounded a bit crazy, so I did what everyone should do when they feel like the Holy Spirit is telling them to do something that seems crazy. I discerned it with my spiritual director. I told her what I thought I heard, and I asked her to pray about it and see what the Holy Spirit says to her about it.She said the first thing she heard was “go” and then she asked Him to confirm it for her. The way this usually happens for her is that she sees the word she heard other places throughout the day. In this instance, she saw what looked like “go” on two different license plates throughout her day. She felt that was the confirmation she was looking for. As I was walking into the prayer group on Thursday morning, I asked the Lord to let me hear something at the meeting that confirmed that He wanted me to go. I was surprised because I didn't really hear anything during the meeting. Then, at the end, while we were cleaning up, one of our members, who just went to the national conference for Charismatic Catholics in the United States, said, “The main message of the entire conference was to Go Out. Don't just stay in the comfort of praying within your prayer group, but be bold and go out into the world and pray with others.” I took this as the confirmation that I had asked the Lord for.Now it was time to talk to my husband about it. It was not a good time for me to go to Ecuador, as he works for the government, so he is not getting a paycheck right now. Also, he was going out of the country to visit our son Noah since he is away in Scotland for school and happened to have a week off for his Birthday. Tony is not working and has a free travel credit. They were staying with a friend, so it would not be an expensive trip, and the timing was great for that trip. Another reason the timing wasn't great for this call to go to Ecuador is that in order for me to go with my sister, Daniel, and their daughter, I would have to leave before Tony got back. This isn't a big deal, as our kids at home are 17 and 21. They would be fine without us for a night, but it would have been better if we didn't have to leave them alone for a night.Anyway, I talked with Tony about the trip, and he wasn't thrilled with the idea of me going, especially since he is not getting paid and we would both be out of the country at the same time. However, he didn't say I couldn't go, and I felt strongly that I was supposed to go, so I looked at getting a ticket. Before going to dinner, the tickets were $576. When I got home from dinner and tried to buy the ticket, it had gone up to $698. I went back and forth between Expedia and Travelocity, and I couldn't find a ticket for less than $600 now.  I sent my sister a message explaining that the tickets were too much, and so I didn't think I could go. Then, I had a chat with God. I explained that there was no way I could spend $700 on a ticket when Tony wasn't thrilled about me going in the first place. I told him that if he wanted me to go He was going to have to do something about these ticket prices. I switched back to Expedia one last night before giving up for the night, and there was one ticket for $540. Thank you, Jesus!! I bought it and was excited that I would be on my way to Ecuador in just one week. There were lots of things that were trying to get in the way of my going on this trip, which is another way I knew I was supposed to go, and that God was going to move powerfully. Whenever we are about to do some amazing work for the Lord, the enemy tries to put up a million roadblocks. I fought through each one of them. I discerned them to make sure they weren't legitimate reasons why I shouldn't go, and ultimately decided it was ok if I went.I got there last Friday night, and so it wasn't until the next morning that we got to go to the hospital. They have a much different visitation schedule than we have in the States. They are only allowed to visit their loved ones for 15 minutes twice a day, and it can be only one person at a time. Also, sometimes they switch up the times. One day, we waited for over an hour and a half before I was able to go in and pray over him. The first day, we missed the visitation time as they did it early that day, around 11. However, they talked with the staff, and they allowed me to go in and pray for a few minutes. I wasn't really sure what to say, but I just let him know that he was loved by the Lord, by Jesus, and by Mother Mary. I prayed commands over his body to be healed. I asked the Lord for a healing. I begged the Lord for a healing. I said all I could think to say.Someone came and knocked on the door and told me my time was up. I went out into the hallway and waited with the family. Then the doctor came and talked with Daniel, Anival's sister, and his daughter. They said there was an infection in his finger, and they needed to amputate the finger or it would spread to the other fingers. They also said most of the brain area was dead, so that he would never walk again. He would be paralyzed from the neck down. This, of course, made the family very upset. I sent out an updated prayer request, letting everyone know the new details. After leaving the hospital on Saturday, I asked the Lord for a sign that He would heal Anival. I saw what appeared to be the shadow of a chalice with the Eucharist on it. I also saw a bumper sticker that said Nothing is impossible for God. Nada es imposible para Dios. I knew those were both signs from the Lord that He would work in this situation. We weren't in that town on Sunday, so the next time I could pray was Monday. We went on Monday morning and Monday evening. When we went in the morning, they talked to the doctor on call, and he said they do not need to amputate the finger. Thank you, Lord, prayers answered!! Daniel also asked if they could do another CT scan of the brain, as we saw Anibal cry and smile, and they hadn't seen this. They said they would do another one.I have not heard if they have done it yet or not, but the family was in a much better place on Monday than they were after the news on Saturday. I really felt as if Anibal could understand what I was saying on Monday, not as much on Saturday. Saturday, he did seem to smile and look at me a bit. However, on Monday, especially the second time, his face seemed to come alive. He had tears coming out of at least one eye when I told him how loved he was and that God was there with him. I told him he was never alone and no matter what, he could always talk to the Lord and ask for whatever he wanted. I told him God loves to do impossible things, so ask big! I explained it didn't matter what he had done in the past; the second we tell God and ask for forgiveness, we are forgiven. I asked him to fight hard to stay with his family and he seemed to respond. I commanded his body to heal. I explained that God had asked me to come all the way from America to tell Anibal how much he is loved by God.I got home late Tuesday night, and my brother-in-law, Daniel, checked in on Wednesday to see how I was doing. I told him that this is the part I have a hard time with; we all probably do. Now is the time to trust in the waiting. Now is the time to thank the Lord for the work we haven't yet seen and to keep hoping that, in His time, He will heal Anival. I believe He will heal him. Around dinner time on Wednesday, Daniel sent me another text message that was like music to my ears. It said that I just got news and that Anibal woke up! He finally regained consciousness after over 30 days. He also said he responded to the order of the doctor when they said to open the mouth and other things with the face.  Thank you, God! Thank you, Jesus! You are so good!!! Praise God!! When I checked in on Sunday, they said he is better. He is actually getting a bit anxious because he knows where he is, but doesn't know what happened. This is good. Not that he is anxious, but that his brain is recognizing where he is and that it is thinking. They also said he is feeling more pain. Which again, we don't want him to be in pain, but it could mean he is not paralyzed and his limbs are trying to respond.Whatever all of that means, I believe Anibal will get to walk out of the hospital and be reunited with his family and dance with his daughter again someday. I am not a fan of waiting, but sometimes it is necessary, as God knows the best time to work His miracles. God is in all of this. That is something I know with my whole being. I am 100% sure God is in this, and I am so excited to see how it all unfolds.Thank you, Lord! Thank you for calling me to go on this trip and for allowing me to be part of this miracle. Thank you for the amazing time I got to spend with family. I made some wonderful memories this weekend. Thank you for the miracles you are working in this situation. Thank you for the results of this next brain scan. Thank you for whatever progress in healing is made before the scan. If it's not all the way healed, Lord, please make sure they do another one. Lord, thank you for the full restoration of his mind and body. Thank you, Lord, all the Glory is yours!!Don't worry, I will keep you updated as I know so many of you are also praying for Anibal! We can all celebrate together when he gets to go home and resume his life again. www.findingtruenorthcoaching.comCLICK HERE TO DONATECLICK HERE to sign up for Mentoring CLICK HERE to sign up for Daily "Word from the Lord" emailsCLICK HERE to sign up for my newsletter & receive a free audio training about inviting Jesus into your daily lifeCLICK HERE to buy my book Total Trust in God's Safe Embrace

This might be the most underrated golf trip on the East Coast—and we're breaking down the exact itinerary (courses, stays, eats, and a wild off-course surprise) to prove it. In this episode of the golf podcast, we may have just found your next great golf trip — and it's in a place you probably wouldn't expect: the Outer Banks of North Carolina. We break down why OBX is a legit hidden gem for golfers, with an awesome mix of courses (coastal vibes, water views, wind, and totally different layouts from day to day), plus plenty to do off the course if you're bringing family or non-golfers. We also share how easy it is to get there (drive from the Northeast or fly into Norfolk and make a quick hop down), and why fall is the sweet spot for conditions and pricing. We walk through our itinerary, including where we stayed at Kilmarlic Golf Club's cottages, how we packed in 36-hole days with minimal driving, and the standout food stops like NC Coast Grill, JK's steakhouse, and North Carolina barbecue. We also talk about one of the coolest non-golf experiences in the area: a wild horse tour in Corolla. If you're looking for an underrated, easy-to-plan golf trip with big destination energy, this one belongs on your shortlist.   Listen to This Week's Show Download on iTunes here Listen on Spotify here Thanks to this Week's Sponsors Titleist is committed to ensuring that every golf ball delivers superior quality and consistency.  From ball to ball, dozen to dozen we should expect our golf ball to perform exactly the same way, shot after shot. On this week's episode of The Whiskey Trip, Big Chief sits down with old friend and master distiller Lee Kennedy of Leiper's Fork Distillery for a conversation rooted in tradition, craftsmanship, and the future of American whiskey. The episode opens with Big Chief sipping on Revenuers Reserve, a standout release from Leiper's Fork Distillery. This small batch blend of three 8 year old Tennessee whiskey barrels, bottled at 100 proof, pays tribute to the historic revenuers who once enforced whiskey taxes across Tennessee. It is a rich, mature pour that sets the tone for a deep dive into heritage distilling and the stories behind the still As Big Chief works through four expressions from Leiper's Fork, Lee walks listeners through the early beginnings of the distillery, from the historic log cabin tasting room to the impressive post and beam still house that shelters their traditional copper pot still with an onion bulb and goose neck. It is a true nod to old world whiskey making. To finish up the first half, Lee surprises the Big Man with a single barrel cask strength Tennessee whiskey, an uncut, full proof expression that showcases the raw character and depth Leiper's Fork is known for. The second half of the episode shifts toward what is ahead for the distillery, including growth in Franklin and Nashville, expanding overseas, and how tariffs impact craft distilleries like Leiper's Fork. During the conversation, Big Chief pours up Leiper's Fork Rye, a whiskey with a cult following, thanks to its bold spice and unmistakable character. The episode wraps with one final pour, a single barrel wheated bourbon, closing out the show with a soft, expressive whiskey that highlights Leiper's Fork's attention to grain, barrel selection, and balance. To this day, Big Chief considers Leiper's Fork Distillery the perfect example of what a craft distillery should be, great whiskey, genuine warmth and hospitality, combined with timeless old school charm. Pour a glass, settle in, and take the ride with Big Chief.

The Ruins, the Return, and the Realignment After two intense nights with Ayahuasca, Day Five brought a different kind of teacher: the Sacred Valley itself. In the ancient terraces of Pisac and the colossal stones of Ollantaytambo, I found a quiet wisdom that didn't speak in visions—but in presence, humility, and perspective. As I walked among mountain-carved ruins, burial sites, and engineering miracles we still can't explain, I began to understand my own “deaths” from the ceremonies as returns—returns to trust, patience, and truth. This unexpected excursion stirred a mix of sadness and gratitude as Thanksgiving approached and I felt the ache of being away from my family… while standing in the embrace of a new one. In this episode, I explore how ancient civilizations, unexpected emotions, and the right people at the right time can become medicine just as powerful as the plant itself—and how trust, not fear, becomes the compass for Night Three.
