Markets are rallying as the U.S. and Iran move closer to an interim agreement, but the biggest question is whether the Strait of Hormuz will actually reopen fast enough to relieve pressure on global oil supplies.Chuck Zodda and Mike Armstrong break down what is known about the proposed Iran deal, why energy markets still face a tight timeline, and how continued inventory drawdowns could keep pressure on gas prices later this summer. They also discuss Kevin Warsh's first Fed meeting as chair, why the Fed may need to communicate less while proving its inflation credibility, why Americans remain unhappy with the economy despite low unemployment, and how SpaceX's IPO is fueling renewed investor interest in the broader space sector.

Resiliency in treasury yields against hopes U.S.-Iran peace talks will manifest is something Charles Schwab's Collin Martin attributes to much more than crude oil prices. He makes the case that yields will stay in the upper end of a new trading range due to other geopolitical factors. Collin then weighs how the Strait of Hormuz reopening impacts the overall inflation picture ahead of the Fed's interest rate decision Wednesday. ======== Schwab Network ========Empowering every investor and trader, every market day.Subscribe to the Market Minute newsletter - https://schwabnetwork.com/subscribeDownload the iOS app - https://apps.apple.com/us/app/schwab-network/id1460719185Download the Amazon Fire Tv App - https://www.amazon.com/TD-Ameritrade-Network/dp/B07KRD76C7Watch on Sling - https://watch.sling.com/1/asset/191928615bd8d47686f94682aefaa007/watchWatch on Vizio - https://www.vizio.com/en/watchfreeplus-exploreWatch on DistroTV - https://www.distro.tv/live/schwab-network/Follow us on X – https://twitter.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/schwabnetworkFollow us on LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/company/schwab-network/About Schwab Network - https://schwabnetwork.com/about

Just when you think Spider-Man has lost all novelty, “Spider-Noir” finds its spark by going backward into smoke, shadow, bruised conscience, silly accents, and old Hollywood fatalism. It's still a comic-book story, complete with masks, villains, superpowers, and a hero trying to decide whether he can outrun the thing he was built to become, but its real trick is tonal. The series treats noir not as a costume rack, but as an emotional statement. On this episode of Bingeworthy, host Mike DeAngelo is joined by writer, producer, and showrunner Oren Uziel to talk about Season 1 of “Spider-Noir,” the live-action Marvel/Sony series starring Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly (No, not Peter Parker), a washed-up private investigator in 1930s New York forced to confront his past as the masked vigilante known as The Spider. The series, which is now streaming on Prime Video after its MGM+ debut, also stars Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, Brendan Gleeson, Jack Huston, and more.

Armenia election result revives hopes of reopening border with Turkey

    International report

Play Episode Listen Later Jun 13, 2026 5:11

Nikol Pashinyan's sweeping re-election in Armenia has raised fresh hopes that the border with Turkey could finally reopen after three decades of closure. The Armenian prime minister campaigned on restoring ties with Turkey and Azerbaijan, as well as moving Armenia closer to Europe – but constitutional reform remains a major obstacle. The vote on 7 June gave Nikol Pashinyan a clear victory over the opposition. But his success could prove bittersweet after he fell short of the parliamentary majority needed to change the constitution. Changing the constitution is part of Pashinyan's peace efforts with Azerbaijan, brokered last year by United States President Donald Trump. “This government is committed to passing what the Armenian opposition would refer to as 'the Aliyev referendum',” said Eric Hacopian, a Yerevan-based political consultant. “The problem is, now they have no votes to bring it up because you need to get a two-thirds vote to change the constitution.” Armenia PM Pashinyan wins vote, cementing pro-Western shift Constitutional hurdles On the back of the Washington peace talks, “Armenia and Azerbaijan had an understanding that, after the election in Armenia, there would be certain constitutional amendments”, explained Hikmet Hajiyev, chief foreign policy adviser to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. Baku insists Armenia must remove claims to Nagorno-Karabakh from the preamble to its constitution. The two countries have clashed repeatedly over the contested territory. In 2023, Azerbaijan retook the breakaway enclave, causing more than 100,000 ethnic Armenians to flee. “We are looking forward to Armenia completely eliminating elements of its territorial claims,” Hajiyev said. “Then we will not have any stumbling blocks or hurdles on our agenda to move forward.” Constitutional reform is also seen as important for normalising Armenia's ties with Turkey, according to Hajiyev. “It's not directly linked, but indirectly,” he said. “Once the Azerbaijan-Armenia agenda is solved, then Turkey will also act in a synchronised manner, opening the borders and also establishing a closer relationship.” Armenia election: what the vote could mean for Russia, the West and Azerbaijan Border hopes Turkey closed its border with Armenia in 1993, siding with Azerbaijan after ethnic Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh declared independence and seized Azerbaijani lands. Efforts to restore ties are now gathering pace, said Zeynep Alemdar, an international relations professor at Dogus University in Istanbul. “They've already declared in May 2026 that the border is going to be opened up, and all the bureaucratic, paperwork-type obstacles are actually being dismantled,” Alemdar said, noting that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is believed to get on well with Pashinyan. Pashinyan's Turkey visit signals new chapter as Ankara eyes Caucasus shift But energy-rich Azerbaijan remains crucial to Ankara, Alemdar said. “Economically, comparing Azerbaijan versus Armenia for Ankara, of course Azerbaijan always wins... Of course Azerbaijan is going to be more influential,” Alemdar said. Erdogan congratulated Pashinyan on his re-election, while the Turkish foreign ministry urged Yerevan in a statement to embrace “bold reforms” – seen by many as a call for constitutional change. Cautious steps Pashinyan's lack of decisive parliamentary support and uncertainty over a possible referendum mean Ankara's role could be important in securing lasting peace, said Richard Giragosian, director of the Regional Studies Center think tank in Yerevan. “For Turkey this is a slow, gradual process of retaking the initiative with Armenia, away from Azerbaijan,” Giragosian said. “Because in many ways, at every round it's been the Azerbaijan factor that's the key determinant. And according to sources in Ankara, they only have a yellow light of caution from Azerbaijan – it's not a red light, but it's not yet a green light to proceed.” Reopening the Turkish-Armenian border would be welcomed by the European Union and Washington, as Ankara seeks to deepen its ties with both. But with Azerbaijan acting as a major investor and economic lifeline, Turkey is moving cautiously to avoid upsetting its powerful neighbour.

The Pitt Season 2 has come to a close and Sepideh Moafi has delivered a downright brilliant first-season arc as Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi. She kicked off her run in the series by swooping into the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center Emergency Department to cover for Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle) during his upcoming sabbatical. Rather than wait for Robby to give her the lay of the land, Dr. Al-Hashimi jumps in feet first, immediately inserting herself into the goings-on at the hospital. As Moafi herself put it, “It was set up for her to disrupt the rhythm of this established hospital. Dr. Robby is America's golden boy, or the world's, really, golden boy, so anyone who comes in his path is going to be scrutinized to a certain degree.”In the early episodes of Season 2, she was indeed scrutinized — by Dr. Robby and the colleagues that would eventually have to work under her on the show, and also by The Pitt fans concerned about Dr. Al-Hashimi upending the ED foundation and group dynamic established during the events of Season 1. Over the course of the day, strengths and weaknesses are unearthed, but perhaps more important than anything, so is her purpose: “Delivering and finding ways within this broken system to find creative solutions to deliver the best quality care for patients.” Moafi added another concept inspired by Toni Morrison that she held especially tight to; “If you are free, your job is to free somebody else. If you have some power, then you need to empower somebody else.” Dr. Al-Hashimi abides by those principles every step of the way in The Pitt Season 2, and at the end of the season, it's revealed that while working toward those goals, she's also trying to figure out how to live her life and do her work with a seizure disorder. With all of The Pitt Season 2 now available to watch on HBO Max, Moafi carved out the time for a Collider Ladies Night conversation to revisit her journey to the hit medical drama and also her experience making Dr. Al-Hashimi's Season 2 arc feel especially full. On top of that, Moafi also took a moment to look to the future. While we still don't know if Moafi will continue on with the show, she certainly has some powerful ideas for where the writers could take her character in Season 3. Hosted on Acast. After two years off the air and a total production overhaul, the show comes back with a new network, host, and creative vision—sparking conversations about how much of its legendary format will remain. Fans old and new face a mix of excitement and uncertainty as the revival raises as many questions as it answers. The conversation focused on Big Brother Canada's pathway to revival, spotlighting key changes like the shift to a new production company and the switch from beloved host Arisa Cox to Andrea Bain of The Social. In this episode of The Wright Report, Bryan reports that hopes for an Iran peace deal are fading fast, with the IRGC now threatening to open a new war front in the Red Sea alongside the Houthis and a leaked, expletive-laced phone call between President Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu revealing the worst rift between the two leaders in over a year. Bryan walks through Iran's escalating attacks on commercial ships, the strategic stakes of a potential Red Sea closure for Saudi oil exports, and uses the case of arrested IRGC terrorist Mohammad al-Saadi to argue that Trump's blind spot is trying to negotiate in good faith with religious fanatics who view this as an existential war. He lays out a clear path forward: a televised tactical retreat where Trump turns Europe, Asia, and the Arab states into the foil and puts America First, then pivots to a wave of Democrat judges rolling back Trump policies on the "86-47" assassination phrase, transgender troops, the anti-weaponization fund, the Kennedy Center renaming, and the green card abroad rule. Plus, Bryan closes with genuinely good news: US manufacturing just hit a four-year high under Trump's Triple B bill, General Dynamics is finally restarting 155 artillery shell production in Texas, and the Pentagon's new $1 billion Drone Dominance contest is recruiting backyard tinkerers and former drone racing champions to out-build America's adversaries. The Trump administration is backing away from a planned $1.8 billion anti-weaponization fund after a revolt from Republicans on Capitol Hill. The fund, tied to a settlement and intended to be administered by the Justice Department, had drawn criticism as a potential slush fund that could benefit Trump allies prosecuted under the Biden administration. White House officials told GOP leaders they were retreating from the proposal, at least for now. What stands out to me is that this was never something Trump could simply do by executive order. It would have had to move through Congress, and right now he is running short on political leverage. Collins, Murkowski, and McConnell have already shown they're willing to break with the administration. Add in senators like Tom Tillis, John Cornyn, and Bill Cassidy, who have their own political considerations, and suddenly there are a lot of Republican votes that need convincing. If every other priority is tied to this fund, it becomes a problem. The White House has signaled retreat…. for now.Politics Politics Politics is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.Meanwhile, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier has sued OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman, alleging that ChatGPT is an unsafe product, particularly for children, and that the company misled the public about its risks. The lawsuit argues that AI contributes to harms including addiction, suicide, and even mass shootings. What makes this interesting is that there are no clean ideological fault lines on AI. In Florida, AI is increasingly being treated as just another version of Big Tech, grouped together with the companies conservatives believe have censored or de-platformed them. Simultaneously, politicians in states like Michigan are celebrating AI investments, data centers, and the jobs that come with them, even as it might leave Gretchen Whitmer on the outside looking in for 2028. As AI becomes a larger part of the economy, states are going to play a much bigger role in determining how it develops. But our biggest story remains Iran. Over the last few days, a targeted IRGC commander killing, an attack on a U.S. airbase in Kuwait, and reports that Iran is ending ceasefire talks have all pushed events away from diplomacy and toward escalation. Iran is threatening to fully shut down the Strait of Hormuz and other export routes. The president of Iran has reportedly tendered his resignation, while the IRGC appears to be tightening its grip on power. At the same time, Hezbollah has reportedly signaled a willingness to accept a ceasefire with Israel, though neither American nor Israeli officials seem convinced it would hold.Everything now revolves around leverage. The Strait of Hormuz is Iran's last major bargaining chip. If it reopens without major concessions, Tehran loses a significant source of pressure. If Iran gives up its nuclear ambitions or loses the ability to project power through regional proxies, the regime risks undermining the very justification it has used for decades. Meanwhile, global oil markets are hanging on every development. Hopes of a diplomatic breakthrough have helped keep prices contained, but each new escalation raises the possibility that the conflict widens and energy markets absorb the shock. One small but important development is that internet access appears to be returning inside Iran after months of restrictions. That means more information is beginning to flow out of the country at a moment when the political situation appears increasingly unstable. Whether this ends in negotiations, further military action, or a deeper internal power struggle unfortunately remains wrapped in the fog of war.Chapters00:00:00 - Intro00:03:07 - Interview with Evan Scrimshaw00:39:19 - Trump Slush Fund00:42:13 - AI Lawsuit00:46:34 - Iran00:50:10 - Interview with Charlie Feldman01:30:42 - Wrap-up This is a public episode.
