On the agenda: Steve Bruce adds a crucial syllable to Pep Guardiola's legacy, gloriously synchronised radio commentary at Derby County, an unlikely candidate to be the new David Attenborough, an all-conquering UK tree qualifies for Europe, and a new use for the much-maligned Stockley Park. Send us a Positive Review!Series Title: What does the Family Proclamation Mean to You? [Episode I of II]Welcome to this two-part series where Valerie welcomes returned guest scholar Taylor Petrey to discuss the LDS Church's Family Proclamation to the World as it reaches its 30th anniversary. The heart of the episode centers on Taylor's controversial Salt Lake Tribune opinion piece in September 2025 (linked below) arguing that The Family Proclamation should be understood as commentary rather than revelation or unchanging doctrine. This characterization sparked significant pushback from conservative church members who insisted the document represents eternal, unchanging truth. Taylor and Valerie explore the complex and often inconsistent ways that the LDS Church uses terms like doctrine, revelation, policy, and commentary, noting how these categories shift depending on context and speaker. They discuss how the proclamation itself has been reinterpreted over time and set you up for the second part of their conversation where they dive deeply into the changing interpretations themselves. Host Silas Farley is back with another fascinating Hear the Dance conversation, joined this week by Kay Mazzo, Christine Redpath, and Jean-Pierre Frohlich to discuss Jerome Robbins' masterpiece Dances at a Gathering. In this wide-ranging and intimate conversation, they share memories of the ballet's momentous 1969 premiere as well as time spent with Robbins in the rehearsal studio. As they discuss the various sections of Dances, they reflect on moments when Robbins' humor emerges; the "freedom" and even suspense of certain passages; and the ways in which the ballet is a gift from the choreographer as much to the dancers, who share in its rich sense of community, as to the audience. Four classical Jewish sources, spanning nearly two thousand years, foretell a cataclysmic war involving Persia (Iran) at the End of Days. These are not vague allusions. They are specific, detailed, and converging on the very geopolitical reality unfolding before our eyes. 1. Pesikta Rabbati, Piska 36 “Rabbi Yitzchak said: The year in which the King Mashiach is revealed, all the kings of the nations will provoke one another. The King of Persia will provoke the King of Arabia…and the entire world will be thrown into panic and confusion.” 2. Talmud Bavli, Yoma 10a The Gemara records a dispute regarding a prophesied war between Persia and Rome at the End of Days. One opinion holds that Persia will fall to Rome; the other holds that Rome will fall to Persia. The passage establishes that a decisive confrontation between these two civilizations must precede the arrival of Mashiach. 3. Tosafot, Avodah Zarah 2b The succinct 7 line Tosafot o details how Edom will squash Persia. Their downfall clears the stage for Redemption as this final event precedes Mashiach's imminent arrival 4. Kli Paz — Rav Shmuel Laniado (1603–1657), Commentary on Isaiah 34:6 Writing over four hundred years ago, this great Mekubal of Aleppo identified “Bozrah” in Isaiah's prophecy as the Hormuz. He declared that a “great slaughter” (Iran) would take place there at the End of Days, and sealed his words with a blessing: “Happy is the one who understands this sign before the Redemption.” On this show, Tamar speaks with Reb Doniel Stochel, author of the upcoming book: 'THE FINAL REDEMPTION' as he takes us through prophetic sources of what we might expect, especially concerning Iran, and the Final Redemption. Hungry Like The Wolf. In this episode, we read a sermon from 11th-century bishop Wulfstan. The main themes in the Sermon of the Wolf to the English (also often referred to by its Latin title, Sermo Lupi ad Anglos) are corruption and sin. These themes are apparent as Wulfstan chastises the English people for their corruption and warns of God's anger and wrath, which is sure to come: "Understand also well that the Devil has now led this nation astray for very many years." He sees that the devil has played a huge part in influencing the English to sin ("Wulfstan"). Wulfstan also strongly believes that the people need to repent, as God is extremely upset and disappointed by the people's actions on Earth. On this episode of Preaching the Text, John Hoyum and Steve Paulson discuss preaching on Ash Wednesday. The normal temptation with preaching Ash Wednesday is to focus on penitence as a habit of the mind rather than something God brings to us through the law. Nor should preachers forget that the best preparation for Easter isn't simply to preach judgment, but also to give the good news of Christ's forgiving promise. On this episode of Outlaw God, Dr. Steven Paulson and Caleb Keith continue to look at 2 Corinthians 3, where Paul contrasts the ministries of Moses and the Holy Spirit as law and gospel. They explore how the "glory" associated with Moses belongs to the law that kills and comes to an end, while the Spirit's glory gives life through resurrection and endures forever. They discuss common theological confusions that treat law and gospel as cooperative or parallel paths to salvation and argue instead that the gospel alone creates righteousness by promise. The episode concludes by showing how this passage shaped Luther's theology and sets up a new way of reading Moses through the lens of Christ and the gospel. Despite Pierre de Coubertin's vision of the Olympics being for male athletes only, women did participate in the games starting in 1900. Jesus Gives Himself Up Freely - 30-Day Gospel Reading Challenge - Day 28 (John 18:1-27) by Shawn Ozbun
Exodus 5-11 In this session of The Listener's Commentary, we begin looking at the famous 10 plagues story. Israel is suffering under the heavy hand of Egyptian oppression. God has heard their cries, remembered his covenant, and called Moses to be the deliverer. And Moses finally agrees to go. He has met his brother Aaron and together they have returned to Egypt to confront Pharaoh… and it's really a confrontation between God, Pharaoh and the gods of Egypt. The plagues we see in these chapters aren't random. They are about who is the true God and who has ultimate power. 1. ICE Incident & Media Narrative A story circulated claiming ICE detained a 5‑year‑old child; the document states this was false. ICE was arresting the father, who allegedly fled and abandoned the child. The mother reportedly refused to take the child back. The argument: media outlets amplified a misleading narrative to evoke emotional reaction and sway suburban voters. 2. Narrative of Political Motivation Democrats and major media are using immigration stories to fuel a political campaign against ICE. John Kasich and others are highlighted as contributing to public perception around ICE enforcement. 3. Government Shutdown Predictions A 100% chance of a government shutdown tied to DHS and ICE funding. Chuck Schumer and other Democratic leaders are quoted as refusing to fund DHS without major ICE restrictions. A distinction is made: many agencies are already funded, so the shutdown would be more limited than the previous historical shutdown. 4. “Abolish ICE” Positioning Democrats are unified in refusing to fund ICE or DHS, framing it as similar to “abolish ICE / abolish police” rhetoric. Democrats want a prolonged and painful shutdown to signal to their base that they are fighting against ICE. 5. Trump Accounts (Economic Policy Section) Benefits include: Could lead to significant wealth accumulation due to compound growth (e.g., $300k by 18; $1M+ by 28 with max contributions). Intended to help children in poverty or lower‑income households build long‑term wealth. Employer and charitable contributions (e.g., Michael & Susan Dell, Brad Gerstner) will accelerate scale and impact. Compared in transformative potential to the creation of 401(k) plans. 6. Minneapolis Shooting & Media Coverage Media portrayed the man shot by ICE as a peaceful ICU nurse, omitting earlier confrontational behavior. Video evidence reported by BBC showed the man spitting at, confronting, and kicking an ICE vehicle days before the shooting. Media intentionally shaped the story to portray ICE as murderers. 7. MSNBC AI Image Controversy MSNBC used an AI‑enhanced image to make the man appear more attractive, which the document calls political propaganda. Commentary from Joe Rogan criticizing the altered image. MSNBC admitted to using an AI‑generated thumbnail but did not apologize or fire anyone. Please Hit Subscribe to this podcast Right Now.
