Welcome to the Rebel Pastor, a place to call for and support the rebellious in matters of faith. Jesus was the ultimate rebel and calls us to follow in his rebel example. This podcast is a place to talk and share and call out pastors to lead in these rebel ways.
Season 2 Episode 5 - We were thrilled to welcome on the podcast our first ever guest… Nicole Allen!! Nicole talked more with us about purity culture and helped bring a female perspective to our discussion. The conversation ranges from some of the long term damage Purity Culture caused to laughing about some of the ridiculous things we've done in the name of staying pure. We are very grateful for Nicole joining us and adding so much to our discussion. Hopefully it's just the first of having some guests on the podcast!
In this episode we try to reframe the way we understand lust. In many church spaces lust becomes an excessive point of focus and our understanding of it leads to much unnecessary guilt and shame. What is scripture really concerned about with lust and can we finally feel free to admit we find humans and their bodies beautiful!
Part two of our discussion on purity culture. We get deeper into our own experience and Andrew offers some thoughts on better ways to engage sexuality in church atmospheres.
In this episodes Joe and I talk purity culture. Impossible to exhaust all aspects of purity culture we spend time sharing about what purity culture meant to us. Where we are with it today and both get to see some other ways to look at it. There will be a part 2 to this episode so in the meantime please send us your thoughts, questions or other aspects to talk about.
My brother Joe and I are back and working on season 2 of the podcast. In this episode we talk about some changes coming to season two and our need as people to engage conversation with people who think and believe different than us.
In this episode Joe and I talk about music, concerts, worship and the famous secular/sacred divide. For so many of us this divide was drilled into our heads but does it really makes sense or hold up to sound theology and our own experience. Be prepared to deep dive into some old “Christian Music” bands.
In this new episode Joe and I talk more about the idea behind #tellyourpastorno and my challenge for everyone to consider incorporating the practice of telling your pastor no from time to time. We get into some of the reasons why this can be a very difficult thing for people to do. Joe opens up and shares honestly about why that is true for him.
Joe and I catch up a little after a break and then intro our new challenge for Christians everywhere! The Tell Your Pastor “No” Challenge. Give it a listen, share it, tell your pastor no and then let us know how that went for you.
If the gospel is truly good news and Jesus is love and truth, should we have to add all the hype and professional production to that message. Joe and I talk about the benefits of preaching boring messages and my experiment with them in our church.
Joe and I are all over the place in this one. From talking about the fad of Pastors declaring themes for the year to telling stories about bad messages and my first time ever sharing at a meeting.
In this episode we get into spiritual authority, why so many pastors love the idea and why that's so dangerous.
With almost weekly news of some mega church pastor or leaders moral failure, we have not improved as christians in addressing the real issue. It seems like we always revert to “accountability” as the answer. But what if accountability won't fix these problems? What if it's something else that needs to change?
Episode 5 - Is Your Pastor A Prick - Part 2
All of us can be can be at times but why does that seem to be the go to for so many pastors and why do we keep giving them a free pass?
Andrew and Joe get deeper into what the idea of Rebel Pastor is. Podcast ends with Joe's mind being blown which brings an abrupt end to the episode.
Thanks for joining us on our journey to discover what being a true rebel really means.
