Kevin Palau, President of the Palau ministry, and Sam Adams, former mayor of Portland, Oregon, talk about their friendship formed in the context of meeting social needs in the city. Sam was the first openly gay mayor of a major U.S. city. These two men describe their surprise at discovering that Evangelical Christians and people in the LGBT community can agree on most social issues and can work together to solve problems without compromising their core beliefs. They offer a practical example of how Christians can dialogue respectfully and share the love of Christ with those who hold different views. Buy your copy of Jim Daly’s book, ReFOCUS! Welcome to In Reality, the podcast about truth, disinformation, and the media with Eric Schurenberg, longtime journalist and media executive, now the founder of the Alliance for Trust in Media. The cliche about disinformation is you're entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts. What that formulation ignores though is that the facts that we regard as true, the opinions we hold as core beliefs are built on top of the stories we tell ourselves. Stories are the way we humans make sense of the world we observe and always have been. And every group is entitled to its own stories. Actually, groups are defined by their stories. My guest today, Brian Wienyski, has made it his life's work to understand the stories we tell ourselves. He's the executive director of Harmony Labs, a nonprofit that maps how stories and media influence the ways Americans see the world, whether those stories are told on TikTok or the BBC or streaming media or movies or whatever. In this episode, Brian and Eric talk about what his findings reveal about polarization, about how entertainment and news feed on each other and what strategies might actually help bridge divides.Website - free episode transcriptswww.in-reality.fmAlliance for Trust in Mediaalliancefortrust.com Produced by Tom Platts at Sound Sapiensoundsapien.com

In this week's solo pod romp, I rip into propaganda's favorite trick: the false dichotomy. From the engineered clash between Indigenous and Hispanic culture in Santa Fe, to the broader Left/Right puppet show, I expose how billionaire foundations and activist networks bankroll division while posing as agents of justice. Simon Greer, a Jewish leader, social entrepreneur, and founder of Bridging the Gap, and Saad Soliman, a Muslim entrepreneur and justice reform advocate, could be enemies. A generation ago, members of their families were trying to kill each other in the Six-Day war. Simon's uncles fought for Israel in 1967, while Saad's uncles died fighting for Egypt in that same war. And yet, after meeting at a justice event for formerly incarcerated individuals, Simon and Saad made a choice to work together to build bridges among religious and cultural divisions surrounding the Middle East conflicts. On today's episode, Tim speaks with Simon and Saad about the work of bridge-building, perspective-taking, and how to work together to build enough shared humanity to live together and thrive while honoring differences.Show notes and a full transcript are available.

Is the constant tension between brokers and carriers just bad communication, or is it a sign of a deeper issue? In this powerful episode of The Long Haul, host Adam Wingfield sits down with Annique Lesage, the freight-savvy broker and coach known for her direct, no-fluff truth bombs on TikTok. Annique shares her incredible journey from handling customs to becoming a successful broker, and opens up about how the industry became her lifeline while escaping an abusive marriage. This isn't your typical broker vs. carrier debate. Annique provides a masterclass in shifting from a transactional, load-by-load mindset to building lasting, profitable partnerships. She breaks down why there's no such thing as "cheap freight," only bad negotiators, and challenges carriers to operate as strategic business owners rather than just drivers. Season 25 of Building Better Developers with AI wraps up with a conversation that is purely human. For over thirty episodes, Rob Broadhead and Michael Meloche used AI to revisit past seasons, uncover new talking points, and spark fresh discussions. For the finale they chose a different path, closing the season without digital assistance. This final episode is a straightforward, human-led reflection on what we learned from months of collaboration with AI: the insights gained, the surprises uncovered, and the lessons that will shape future seasons. How the AI-Assisted Podcast Worked Throughout the season, AI served as an idea partner. Using past episode titles and show notes, we asked large-language models to highlight themes, surface overlooked connections, and suggest new topics. The process felt less like automation and more like collaboration—AI proposed possibilities, we debated them, and together we refined each conversation. Key Insight: Treat AI as a partner that expands your thinking, not a shortcut that replaces it. Key Takeaways from our AI-Assisted Podcast Experimentation 1. Clear Prompts Create Better Results A successful AI-assisted podcast depends on clear, focused questions. Breaking large tasks into small, specific prompts produced the most relevant and useful responses. 2. Feedback Loops Improve Quality We quickly learned that saving strong outputs, rejecting weak ones, and resetting context when needed steadily improved the AI's suggestions from one episode to the next. 3. Human Judgment Still Leads AI delivered outlines and surprising cross-episode links, but final editorial control stayed with us. Only the hosts can decide what truly resonates with listeners. Reality Check: AI can offer insight, but only humans can decide what truly matters. Surprises Along the Way Fresh angles on familiar topics. AI revealed links between older episodes that we hadn't noticed before, pointing out recurring themes, complementary ideas, and even follow-up questions we never realized were related. Faster prep with solid structure. By generating draft outlines and well-structured talking points, AI significantly reduced the hours we normally spend preparing each episode, giving us more time to refine our ideas and plan engaging discussions—without sacrificing depth or quality. Occasional misfires. At times the model misread the conversation's context—offering suggestions that sounded plausible but didn't fit the topic—which underscored how essential it is for humans to review, fact-check, and guide every step of the process. These moments proved that an AI-assisted podcast is most valuable as a creative catalyst, not a finished product. Tips for Your Own AI-Assisted Podcast Thinking of running your own season review? Our experience offers a roadmap: Start with transcripts or detailed show notes. Divide tasks into small prompts: summaries, quotes, cross-episode themes. Snapshot strong responses so you can reference or reuse them later. Verify and edit everything. AI drafts are starting points, never final copy. Pro Tip: When a thread drifts off-topic, copy the best context into a fresh chat to regain focus. Why the Finale Was Different While AI enriched nearly every episode this season, the closing conversation remained entirely human. We wanted to pause the technology and reflect on the experience ourselves—to discuss what AI taught us about creativity, context, and collaboration without relying on the very tool we were evaluating. That choice underscored our biggest lesson: AI is a powerful assistant, not a replacement. It can accelerate ideas and surface connections, but the ultimate storytelling voice must stay human. Looking Ahead to Season 26 Season 25 confirmed that AI can be a powerful collaborator for developers and content creators alike. Our AI-assisted podcast delivered richer conversations, new ideas for upcoming seasons, and a faster way to surface timeless lessons from our own archive. But our human-only finale reminds us that judgment, creativity, and vision remain uniquely ours. As we plan Season 26, we'll keep using AI as a brainstorming partner—while ensuring the heart of every episode comes from real conversations and lived experience. Some weeks ago, maybe a month or three, I wrote an article called “Heroes, Villains, and the Lies We Tell Ourselves”. In that article I talked about the Victim/Agressor part of the “Victim/Aggressor/Savior/Martyr” cycle and promised to cover more of the cycle later on.One cannot separate the different aspects of the above cycle and have it make work. It is a cycle within the power over others' construct of reality, “POO”. And its only use is to control the social narrative for the masses. Lest they revolt. It felt appropriate to talk about the “martyr” this time as our world population is being triggered and manipulated big time with it at the moment. As you read the name I am going to use below, you may get a reaction of rejection to the entire topic. That reaction is also a control mechanism to keep the mechanizations of control hidden. Where there is a martyr, there is a hall of mirrors ready to trap anyone who dares to look more closely. I know a lot about mystically engineered social narrative halls of mirrors. We will talk about that in a different article. Just know that the rejection energy is spot on. You have good instincts!Back to the martyr. The martyr created for today is called Charlie Kirk. But, it could be anyone else, the narrative has a template and the template will create a martyr no matter what his name is (yes, 9 times out of 10, the martyr is a man).Let's begin. You may or may not know that the words “Victim” and “Martyr” intertwine, with their roots in ritual sacrifice.* Victim = the animal or person offered up on the altar.* Martyr = the witness whose suffering/death becomes an offering to prove loyalty or faith. The martyr most often is the victim of betrayal from a perceived loyal follower, supporter or friend.Let's look at the “Martyr” for a short bit: There are at least two iterations of the “martyr” that are highly propagated. One is used to drive entire sections of the population in extreme ways, which is the one in ritual sacrifice (think Jesus), and the other is about forcing certain behaviors that a person does not want to do. Both are a form of power over others' control. The second one is easily recognizable when a person tells you, “after all the suffering I have endured because of you, won't you do this small thing for me?” And other sentences that carry that energy. For a lightworker, the energy being generated in that sentence is like iron shackles. If it catches, it is powerful and enslaving energy of coerced loyalty, but it is not what we are looking at today. Just like the first article, this article is about how these energies affect large groups of people.Let's go back to the collective martyr. This guy or gal embodies the energy of a person who was killed or murdered because they stood up to oppression. This one is about population control.Large sections of the world population can be driven in pre-designed directions. Not easily or quickly, but through well thought out and carefully executed plans. This can take many forms, and one of those forms is the creation of the martyr. Especially when it comes to the “circus” part of the “bread and circus” dynamic of keeping people “happy” and not looking at the rulers.Other examples include the movement of the unhappy masses to far away lands with the promise of gold, fortune and social stature denied on their homeland.Martyrs move your population to fight among themselves or against a well scripted “bad guy”. Slow burn for a time, pressure, release, and bam! Martyr to ignite the fuse. These are tactics that beings who operate at larger levels of awareness use in a power over others configuration. But before we, ourselves, fall into the victim/aggressor cycle, let's remember that we chose to experience the light/dark paradigm, and that all these mechanizations require the person's choice to work. As we choose something else, the paradigm of light, it is important for us to choose differently. This is why it can help to understand what is at play, and how these narratives are being used on the world stage. Let's go back to the martyr. The martyr archetype itself, no matter what iteration we are talking about, vibrates with guilt and obligation. And, as the cycle of victim/aggressor/savior/martyr dictates, the martyr by default includes the victim, the aggressor and the savior (or hero) in order to exist. Martyrs need all of the components to express.Narrative Building in the collective mindscape. In order to control the population of the planet Earth, there has to be a collective narrative built that will inevitably send the population into division and strife. Divide and conquer in its ultimate expression. Make the plebs fight among each other and they won't look at the tyrant behind the curtain. Of course, the population has to be primed and ready for the narrative to take hold. And the real tyrant, the one pulling the strings, is behind a hall of mirrors made up of other plebs. Other plebs such as, for example, the police force, presidents and prime ministers, the principals and mayors… anyone who is publicly visible as a representative of power over the masses. But, actually, the narrative that divides and conquers really comes into its own when two or more sections of the actual population are set against each other, leaving the perceived rulers or oppressors out of the equation altogether. My mom always used to say that the hardest faction of the government to have the population turn against was the police. This was because the police walked and were part of the population while all other military branches were removed from the population. Isolated. The art of creating a division between the police and the population is long and arduous. One method is to make them look like soldiers. Thus many police forces around the world were “given” military gear to wear and use. Behind the armor and weapons, they are no longer the cop that lives down the street. When it comes to a martyr, the sacrifice (remember, both the victim and the martyr are a sacrifice), is presented as the pure witness of oppression. Someone who is outspoken, is taking steps to end suffering, or even has a revolutionary mind of their own. Whether they propagate the taking up of arms, or peace, is irrelevant. The template on creating a martyr is usually followed. The martyr is a young man, has a beautiful wife, girlfriend or mother, maybe some babies, is peaceful (but sometimes he has been forced to take arms), they are loyal, have sacrificed their dream or life for a cause, and are obedient. They gave their life so you could be elevated in your freedom, awareness, time or wealth. The template will glorify suffering and will make obedience to a noble cause its foundation. Did you know, for example, that Che Guevara was murdered by his own side in order to make him a martyr? Do you recognize the name? Do you see the image of his face? Yup, it worked.Obedience to what? You may ask.Unquestioning devotion to “truth”, “God”, “peace”, “freedom”, “welfare of the people”...The martyr is then used to inspire unquestioning devotion by the population. The targeted population will follow what they are being told the martyr stood for (even if it is the complete opposite of the martyr's own ideology). The martyr will then be used by the POO (religion, governments, movements) mechanizations to justify wars, conflict, repression or even conformity. Basically, once the martyr's name is being shouted or whispered in the mouths of the population, the POO has mass compliance and can steer the population in any direction it wants. When a person feels that they dishonor the martyr if they resist or question the narrative that promotes the martyr, they have been recruited into compliance. The modern martyr is someone who walked the path of courage and defiance against oppression. Yet, often with a large and heavy ideology of being a sheep of God (whatever religion the person believes in), country or ideology. How do we make sure we don't fall for the narrative?Become aware that anything that puts you into the “us vs them” or makes you compliant out of a feeling of “guilt” “obligation” or “fear” is something you don't want to choose. The discussion doesn't stop here - listen to the full podcast episode for unfiltered insights from Inelia and our panelists.
