What Christians SHOULD Divide Over: What's Worth Defending

Division has become one of the defining marks of modern culture, and the church is not immune to it. Political opinions, personal convictions, and secondary theological debates often become lines that separate believers instead of opportunities for grace and understanding. But Scripture draws an important distinction between essential truths that must be defended and non-essential issues where faithful Christians may disagree. Followers of Jesus are called to stand firm on the core truths of the gospel while still pursuing unity with other believers.Throughout church history, Christians have wrestled with questions about doctrine, conscience, and personal conviction. The challenge has never been avoiding disagreement altogether, but learning how to remain unified without compromising biblical truth.Key Takeaways• Not every disagreement is worth dividing the church over• Christians must learn the difference between essential and non-essential beliefs• Unity is a command from Jesus, not an optional ideal• The enemy often uses division to weaken the church• Biblical convictions should be held with both truth and humility• Healthy churches know how to defend truth without destroying fellowship• Followers of Jesus are called to love one another even when convictions differ

In MobileViews 6136, Jon Westfall and I tackled the increasingly complex world of AI ecosystems. I shared my early impressions of Google Labs' "Dream Beans," an interesting daily briefing tool that uses AI to generate an illustrated summary of topics it thinks you'll find interesting based on your activity. While the illustrations are very nice looking and the content relevant, the app is currently very phone-centric, lacking the landscape orientation optimization I'd expect for a tablet experience. I also noted that Google AI Pro remains a solid value for me at $20 a month. A major portion of the episode was dedicated to my "credit crunch" rant regarding Microsoft Copilot. I discovered that Microsoft's 365 family plan only provides 60 AI credits per month, and the "intentional use" policy is aggressive. According to Copilot itself, credits can be consumed simply by opening the app, syncing handwriting from an e-ink tablet to OneNote, or even having the AI suggest a grammar fix you don't actually use. This led me to explore Obsidian as a OneNote alternative, as it offers free handwriting plugins without the credit overhead. Jon suggested a sustainable path forward: using AI to build offline scripts or tools that perform data manipulation locally to avoid recurring token costs. We also looked at the hardware horizon, specifically Microsoft's announcement of Project Solera—AI-powered badges and desktop displays—and the new Nvidia RTX Spark PCs,. These machines are purpose-built for local AI, boasting a petaflop of performance to run personal agents offline. Finally, with Apple WWDC just around the corner, we shared our hopes for the long-promised "personal context" updates to Siri. Jon is also eagerly awaiting his pre-ordered Clicks communicator and keyboard, while I continue to hold out hope for a MacBook Neo with a backlit keyboard and a desktop Mac Neo. Whether it's navigating "vibe coding" loops or managing AI budgets, it's clear that the "magic math" of the AI industry is starting to meet the reality of the bean counters.

AI, Sovereignty and the New Education Divide In this thought-provoking episode of The EdTech Podcast, Philippa Wraithmell speaks with Tom Orrell and Cameron Mirza about education, AI, global development and the growing divide between countries that can shape technological change — and those at risk of having it shaped for them. Tom, Deputy Director of Programs at Development Gateway, brings a background in human rights law, digital policy, sustainable development and humanitarian action. Cameron, Chief of Party for the Assas programme in Jordan, brings deep experience from the UK Department for Education and large-scale education reform across the Middle East. Together, they explore how their different professional routes have led to a shared focus on equity, ethics, implementation and meaningful system change. The conversation begins with the human story behind their work: family connections to teaching, personal motivations, and the values that have shaped their careers. Cameron reflects on how his mother's work as a primary school teacher continues to influence his commitment to early-grade education, while Tom shares how his own route through human rights, law and digital policy shaped his belief in critical thinking, rights and international cooperation. At the heart of the episode is the Assas programme in Jordan, which focuses on improving early-grade literacy and numeracy outcomes for young learners. Tom and Cameron discuss why foundational education matters not just for academic success, but for long-term life chances, economic development, health outcomes and social prosperity. The discussion then moves into the realities facing education systems globally. Cameron highlights the scale of the current learning crisis, teacher shortages, student debt, cost-of-living pressures and the increasing strain on public systems. Tom builds on this by exploring how AI and emerging technologies are accelerating change — but not always in a positive direction. AI, he argues, is not inherently good or bad; it is an acceleration force that can deepen harm or expand opportunity depending on the choices made around governance, policy and implementation. A key theme throughout the episode is sovereignty. Tom and Cameron unpack why AI sovereignty is no longer just about where data is stored. It is also about computing power, local infrastructure, culturally relevant datasets, language, regulation, national priorities and the ability of countries to make informed decisions about the tools they adopt. This raises difficult questions about global inequity, especially when most AI models are developed by a small number of countries and companies, while many lower-income nations lack the infrastructure or policy capacity to shape the direction of AI on their own terms. The episode also examines the danger of technology being treated as a quick fix for complex system problems. Cameron argues that the countries most likely to thrive in the next phase of innovation will not simply be those with the most money, but those able to build strong innovation governance systems — connecting government, regulators, universities, private sector partners, infrastructure, entrepreneurs and policymakers into trusted, coordinated systems. Tom and Cameron also discuss their work with sandboxes in Jordan, exploring how countries can safely test new technologies, understand trade-offs, and make choices that align with their own educational, cultural and national priorities. They emphasise that effective innovation is no longer just about technology; it is about coordination, trust, sequencing and the ability to cut through noise. The final part of the conversation turns to leadership. Cameron argues that leaders now need a systems mindset, ethical judgement, entrepreneurial thinking and the ability to operate in ambiguity while staying close to the realities on the ground. Tom reinforces the importance of emotional intelligence, empathy, communication and human connection in an age where technology is becoming increasingly dominant. This episode is a sharp, honest and deeply human conversation about the future of education. It challenges the hype around AI while recognising its potential, and asks what it will take to ensure that technological transformation strengthens education systems rather than widening the divide between them.   Chapters 00:00 Introduction and Backgrounds 04:13 Shared Vision and Collaboration 08:24 The Assas Program: Transforming Education in Jordan 12:56 Personal Motivations and Educational Impact 17:03 Current Challenges in Global Education 21:27 The Role of Technology in Education 25:56 Navigating Policy and Governance in Education 30:27 Leadership in Education: Skills for the Future 42:04 Sparkling_Chime_Transition.wav 42:10 NEWCHAPTER

You don't need a therapist or a coach. You probably need both — just not at the same time. If your head feels like a storm, this episode will make it clear what gets you out and what keeps you stuck.   In This Episode: The raw difference between ADHD therapy and ADHD coaching Why healing has to come before executing for ADHD Entrepreneurs What makes therapy and coaching legit — or dangerous   What You'll Take Away: Therapy is about healing the past and stabilizing your present. Coaching is about taking action for the future. ADHD Entrepreneurs can't coach their way out of a storm they haven't calmed. A legit coach or therapist wants you to need them less — not more. Coaching programs are training, not regulated education. If the storm is still raging, coaching isn't what you need.   ABOUT THIS EPISODE This episode of The Impulsive Thinker® breaks down the real difference between ADHD therapy and ADHD coaching. The Impulsive Thinker® asks exactly when each one matters — and what happens when coaches act like therapists and vice versa. Licensing. Ethics. Training. ADHD, entrepreneurship, and neurodivergent brains get pulled apart with real-world stakes. The conversation hits what coaching can — and cannot — fix. If you're stuck processing the past, coaching won't get you out. Therapy is for the storm. Coaching is for calm seas and future action. Every ADHD Entrepreneur gets this question wrong — until everything blows up.   This one's for the ADHD Entrepreneur frustrated by stalled progress. If you're ready to see why action isn't always the answer, smash play.   Email me about it at andre@theimpulsivethinker.com. Remember — ADHD failure is measured on society's measuring stick. Not yours. Your brain runs on interest, not importance. That's not a flaw. That's a different operating system. ADHD is not a deficit. In this episode of The Better Leadership Team Show, I sit down with Josh Zolin, entrepreneur, keynote speaker, founder of BITNW Academy, and author of Blue Is the New White, to talk about one of the biggest leadership challenges many organizations face today: the divide between white-collar leadership and blue-collar frontline teams. We discuss why so many office leaders unintentionally lose credibility with field employees, how assumptions create resentment, and why respect is built through curiosity, transparency, and shared experience. Josh shares lessons from scaling a service business, leading technicians in the field, and helping companies create stronger cultures through better communication and leadership development. We also dive into financial transparency, leadership coaching, investing in employees, and why the future of the skilled trades deserves far more attention and respect than it often receives. If your organization has office teams, field teams, operations staff, technicians, drivers, or frontline employees, this conversation offers practical ways to close communication gaps and build a healthier, more unified culture. A tree survives storms because of its roots, not because it fights every gust of wind.Think about it. If you understand you are the observer of your life, you will then realize you aren't just reacting to reality. You're are participating in reality. You can question it.You can refuse it.You can change your relationship to it.It's obvious we are waking up to overlords and institution that wants control, in which they project “power over and power under” realities that create the opposite:That you are small. That you are late. That you are powerless. That you are merely a consumer of outcomes. They try to pull attention away from creation and into reaction.Your business grows through creation.Anxiety grows through reaction. The power struggle (and how to opt out)If you can get people to outsource their perception, then you can guide their choices. So the first battlefield is attention. If you can keep attention fragmented, then self-observation becomes difficult. If you can keep people overstimulated, then inner clarity feels impossible. If you can keep them exhausted, then reflection looks like “luxury.”And when reflection becomes rare, then the observer in neutrality goes missing. The invisible rule: “Top Down vs Bottom Up.” If you can convince someone that only approved narratives are valid, then their own direct experiences are doubted and suspect.Intuition becomes “irrational.”Pattern recognition becomes “paranoia.”Spiritual insight becomes “cringe.”Even emotional truth becomes “overreacting.”So one stops trusting what they see.And when you no longer trusts your perception, you become governable.Divide-and-conflict: turn observation into freedomIf the old global elite force us to compare identities instead of examining systems, then the system stays invisible. So attention is pushed into constant social struggle:Who's right.Who's safe.Who's winning.Who's to blame. And if the crowd is busy fighting horizontally, then power can operate vertically without being noticed. The “OBJECTIVE” is a resultIf you slip out of being conscious as a (first) observer from the equation, then you can be managed like a object. If you are managed like objects, then you'll accept being spoken to like a object. And if that becomes normal, then the cornerstone remains “rejected”—not because it lacks power, but because its power threatens the architecture. The reversal (reclaiming the cornerstone)If you bring the observer back online, then the spell weakens. If you practice noticing—without immediately obeying what you notice—then you regain inner space. If you regain inner space, then you regain choice. And if you regain choice, then the cornerstone is no longer rejected. It becomes what it always was:The point of observation. The point of creation. The point from which the whole structure can be rebuilt.REAL LIFE EXAMPLES | Are you at risk? Again, if you recognize you are the observer, then you notice how your attention, beliefs, and choices shape life. 1) Attention capture: keep you too distracted to notice Real-world examples:* Infinite scroll + autoplay: designed to keep you consuming without a natural stopping point.* Push notifications: training you to respond on cue rather than choose intentionally.* Outrage algorithms: content that spikes anger/fear travels further, so platforms reward it.* 24/7 “breaking news”: a constant urgency loop that makes reflection feel irresponsible. If your nervous system is constantly activated, then your ability to step back and witness your own mind gets weaker.2) Information overload: drown the observer in noise Real-world examples:* Conflicting headlines on the same event, each claiming certainty.* Endless expert takes, threads, podcasts, hot takes—more input than one person can metabolize.* “Context collapse” on social media: complex issues forced into simplistic posts. If everything feels equally urgent, then you stop trusting your own judgment. Then you look for someone to tell you what to think.3) Narrative gating: only “approved reality” is treated as valid Real-world examples:* Workplace cultures where disagreement quietly harms your career.* Social environments where asking basic questions is treated as moral failure.* Public shaming dynamics: one wrong phrase becomes proof you're unsafe.* Media incentives that reward conformity to a storyline more than nuance. If you can punish curiosity, then you can prevent observation. If you can prevent observation, then you can maintain control.4) Status worship: replace inner authority with external permission Real-world examples:* People deferring to “experts” even for personal decisions that require self-knowledge (relationships, values, meaning).* “Citation culture” used as a weapon: not to improve truth, but to end conversation.* Institutional language that makes ordinary people feel unqualified to speak.Experts matter. But if expertise becomes a tool to silence lived experience, then people become dependent.5) Economic pressure: keep people too tired to thinkReal-world examples:* Multiple jobs, gig work, unpredictable schedules.* Debt-driven life decisions.* Burnout normalized as “ambition.”* Healthcare and childcare stress that drains long-term planning. If you're exhausted, then you'll accept whatever reduces friction today—even if it costs you tomorrow. That's not a personal failure. That's a predictable outcome of stress.6) Identity conflict: horizontal fighting keeps vertical power invisibleReal-world examples:* Culture wars that keep attention on symbols and tribes instead of incentives and policy.* Online discourse that rewards dunking over understanding.* Workplace politics where coworkers compete for scarcity instead of questioning the system. If people argue about who's “good,” then fewer people ask who benefits.7) Metrics and performance: turn humans into dashboards Real-world examples:* Social media likes/follows as a proxy for truth or value.* Productivity tools used to squeeze output rather than support wellbeing.* Corporate KPIs that encourage short-term wins and punish long-term thinking.* Schools and testing that reward compliance and memorization more than insight. If your identity becomes performance, then observation becomes threatening.Because observation might reveal you're not living your life—just managing a score. In the end….If observation returns, then choice returns. And when choice returns, the power struggle shifts.Because the observer is no longer missing.KassandraThe Light Between is a reader-supported publication. Healthcare systems are under pressure almost everywhere, but the strain is especially visible in lower-resource settings where demand is rising faster than infrastructure. In Pakistan, that pressure is playing out across a system that has to serve more than 250 million people with limited public investment. Public health spending remains below 1% of GDP, making the need for smarter, more scalable healthcare delivery increasingly urgent. That is why major projects like the Jinnah Medical Complex are drawing attention as potential models for what the next phase of healthcare reform could look like. That raises the real question at the center of this episode: can a major new medical complex help transform healthcare delivery in Pakistan, or will lasting progress depend on broader system design far beyond a single hospital?Welcome to I Don't Care. In the latest episode, Dr. Kevin Stevenson speaks with Dr. Muhammad Faheem Anwar, Chief Operating Officer of the Jinnah Medical Complex & Research Center, about the future of Pakistani healthcare. Their conversation explores the structural realities of Pakistan's healthcare system, the ambitions behind the Jinnah Medical Complex in Islamabad, and the larger issues of digital health, oncology, workforce retention, prevention, and primary care reform.Key takeaways from the conversation…Pakistan's healthcare system is not simply underdeveloped. It is highly uneven, with world-class care in some institutions but fragmented access and high out-of-pocket costs for much of the population. The Jinnah Medical Complex is being positioned not just as a large hospital, but as a replicable model for operational discipline, clinician training, digital health, and internationally benchmarked public sector care. The biggest long-term opportunity in Pakistan may not be tertiary expansion alone, but building a stronger primary care foundation, better data systems, and a more sustainable care delivery model.Dr. Muhammad Faheem Anwar is a healthcare operations and public health leader with more than 20 years of experience overseeing large multispecialty hospitals across Pakistan and the Gulf region, with deep expertise in hospital commissioning, operational readiness, governance, digital health integration, and health system strengthening. He currently serves as Chief Operating Officer of the Jinnah Medical Complex & Research Center, where he is leading the operationalization of a 1,460-bed quaternary care hospital, following senior leadership roles at The Indus Hospital, Central Park Teaching Hospital, Punjab Health Facilities Management Company, and the Punjab Information Technology Board. His career highlights include improving operational efficiency at scale, advancing quality and patient safety systems, leading HMIS implementation, and advising on health system reform, climate resilience, and performance improvement in low- and middle-income country settings.

Ep. 83 - Chief Daniel Comeaux, the 31st Chief of Police of the Dallas Police Department joins me to look back at his first year in the role – his initiatives, his accomplishments as well as his goals for the future. Chief came to the job with 35 years in law enforcement, six with Houston PD starting in 1991 where he spent much of his time in narcotics; and 28 with the DEA which he joined in 1997.As I say in the episode, I think Chief of Police is a tough job, no matter what department, no matter what city. And the first year in that position has to be the most demanding – fraught with scrutiny, challenges and potential pitfalls – especially when you come in as an outsider to the department and to the city and on top of that, when you're coming to it after 28 years on the Federal side.In this interview, you will hear just how well Chief Comeaux has navigated these waters. He has drawn on all of his experience to define his role, strengthen the department, reduce crime and successfully recruit. He has done it judiciously with keen insight, thoughtful decisions, and I would add, humor. We talk about what shaped him and his leadership style over the years. We discuss what drew him to law enforcement, and some memorable stories from patrol in Houston including the people he remembers and all those fights and foot chases. We cover his time with DEA and talk about the case he is most proud of; the challenges of working hundreds of miles of the Mexican border while in both Tucson and Houston; and his work navigating every drug epidemic over those 28 years, from crack to ecstasy, meth, opioids and now fentanyl.Thank you, Chief for a great interview and for taking the time. The question comes up in almost every divorce: what happens to the house? It is usually one of the biggest assets of the marriage, one of the biggest debts, and one of the most emotionally loaded decisions people face. Wanting to keep the house and actually being able to keep the house are two very different things. This week Susan is bringing back one of the most downloaded archived conversations from the Divorce and Beyond library, a conversation with Tami Wollensak, licensed mortgage loan originator and Certified Divorce Lending Professional, walking through the real financial realities of keeping the marital home.  Together, Susan and Tami unpack what it actually takes to keep the house in a divorce, from refinancing challenges and equity buyouts to qualifying for a mortgage on a single income, the hidden costs of homeownership, and why making this decision without proper financial planning can create serious problems long after the ink is dry. Covered in this episode: Why wanting to keep the house and being able to keep the house are two very different things, and what a Certified Divorce Lending Professional can do to help close that gap How equity is calculated, why the purchase price is not the value, and what it means to buy out your spouse's share as part of the refinance Why maintenance, alimony, and child support do not automatically count as qualifying income and what lenders actually need to see How a missed mortgage payment can drop credit scores by hundreds of points and why "it was their responsibility" has never once removed a negative mark from a credit report Why getting a home inspection before finalizing your divorce agreement is one of the most overlooked and important steps you can take KEEPING THE HOUSE: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW BEFORE YOU SIGN Almost everyone walks into divorce negotiations with the same instinct: I want to keep the house. It is understandable. It is the family home. It is where the children have put their heads on pillows for years. But signing a settlement agreement without knowing whether you can actually execute it is not a successful negotiation. Some of the most important things to understand before you commit, are discussed in this episode: Know the fair market value of your home today, not the purchase price, and understand what the actual equity is and how it will be divided Understand that keeping the house means refinancing into your name alone, which means qualifying on your income alone, and your payment will be based on current market rates, not what you are paying today Work with a divorce mortgage professional early in the process, before the settlement agreement is signed, so you can generate real options rather than make decisions based on guesses Get a home inspection before finalizing the agreement, just as you would when buying a new home, so you know exactly what you are signing up for If your spouse agrees to stay on the mortgage temporarily, set up protections: require advance notice if a payment may be missed, and request a duplicate mortgage statement so you can monitor it yourself The goal is not to win the house. The goal is to make the decision that sets you up for the strongest future. Get the answers, both good and bad, and then decide.
