Brian From reflects on Olympic downhill skiers hurtling down the mountain at 70 miles an hour and challenges listeners to consider where God may be calling them to step out in bold faith rather than timid caution. From a false school alarm that exposed how little control we truly have, to a personal wrestling with bitterness and forgiveness, Brian explores what it means to trust the Lord in uncertain and painful seasons. The episode closes with a reminder from Mary and Martha and the story of the prodigal son that spiritual disciplines don’t save us—Christ does—and the foundation of it all is receiving His agape love before trying to do anything for Him.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

While it's natural to try to control our life experience, our chronic controlling cuts us off from presence and obscures the loving awareness that is our essence. This series of talks explores how we can let go in four key domains of controlling: clinging to thoughts, resisting feelings, holding tight to beliefs and armoring our heart. We look at how egoic controlling manifests individually and as a society; the process of awakening from exclusive identification with a separate ego/self; what it means to die into a larger reality and the similarities of psychedelics and meditation in the process of letting go. The gift of releasing the grip of controlling is true freedom; inhabiting the intrinsic beauty of our beings, and having our lives be an expression of creativity, wisdom and love. In this episode, Justin sits down with Carissa, a family nurse practitioner who runs two thriving practices, to talk honestly about her journey and the challenges behind the scenes. Carissa shares what it is really like to manage both a med spa and a men's health clinic, including the pressure of making every decision and the overwhelm that comes with an endless to do list. Together, they explore why delegation is so difficult for so many NPs, how decision fatigue can quietly stall growth, and what it truly takes to move from being the solution to every problem to leading a business built to scale. If your practice depends on you showing up every single day, Carissa's story offers a powerful look at what needs to change to create something sustainable and freeing.
I recently had the opportunity to guest coach in an amazing program led by Dr. Stacy Heimburger Smalley. We explored what it really takes for high-achieving women to rebuild self-trust, confidence, and sustainable success — without burnout or perfectionism. Together, we unpack why so many driven women set powerful goals… yet still feel disconnected or frustrated in the process. This episode is a grounded conversation about identity, nervous system awareness, and redefining success in a way that actually supports your energy. Inside this episode: • Why consistency (not perfection) builds real self-trust • How to stop moving the goalpost and acknowledge progress • The power of setting intentions based on how you want to feel • Why small, aligned actions create lasting confidence • How to define success for your current season of leadership If you're a woman in sales, leadership, or a performance-driven role who wants growth that feels grounded instead of exhausting, this conversation will meet you exactly where you are. We're still in winter — even if part of us is itching to rush ahead. In this episode of The Spiritual Cupcake, Candace explores the quiet, in-between season where spring hasn't arrived yet, but the urge to speed up is strong. Instead of pushing forward, she reflects on what it looks like to resist the rush and choose stillness — even when it feels uncomfortable.Through small, intentional practices like turning off her phone, sitting in silence during drives, and creating space without distraction, Candace shares how stillness has become an unexpected doorway. A doorway into emotions long suppressed — rage, sadness, guilt, shame — and into the courage it takes to feel them, listen to them, and let them move through the body without carrying them forward. This episode is an invitation to honor the hibernation season, to trust that not everything needs to bloom right now, and to remember that when we allow ourselves to feel and release what's been held for years, spring arrives more vibrant, more honest, and more alive.

EPISODE 673 - Mary Alice Stephens - UNCORKED - Getting sober is one thing, staying sober anotherMary Alice Stephens is a creative nonfiction storyteller. As a television writer-producer for HGTV, Food Network, and other media outlets, she shared others' stories on everything from outdoor adventures to home improvement. Now, in her debut book, Uncorked -- an Amazon #1 New Release in both Alcoholism Recovery and Midlife Self-Help -- Mary shares her own powerful story of alcoholism, recovery, and starting life anew at 45. She earned her Master of Fine Arts in creative writing from Dominican University of California and resides in Northern California. When not writing, she can often be found cyber-stalking her teens, planning her family's next adventure, or searching for her elusive phone.Book: Uncorked: A Memoir of Letting Go and Starting OverGetting sober is one thing, staying sober another…With a glorious bang, alcohol freed Mary Stephens from her lonely, self-critical teenage shell and fueled Fun Mary. For three decades, booze had been her best friend, the reliable spark igniting good times and (she thought) good friendships. But Fun Mary had a dark side: debilitating hangovers, blackouts, and perilous behavior. Not even a three-story fall that left her in a body cast could stop her from drinking. But finally, after putting her young son in danger and her marriage in jeopardy, Fun Mary had to go.Now sober at age 45, everything Mary once cherished becomes a trigger—date nights with her husband, friendships centered around wine, and a father who expresses his love through alcohol. This new Sober Mary is lonely and vulnerable—feelings she drank to escape. Now what?Told with heart and humor, Uncorked: A Memoir of Letting Go and Starting Over is the inspiring and relatable story of a woman's pursuit of a better life through sobriety.About the AuthorMary Alice Stephens is a creative nonfiction storyteller. Y'all… this episode was a spicy one
So many creatives set goals that feel safe. Goals that won't rock the boat. Goals that guarantee you won't fail… but also won't grow. In this conversation, we're unpacking how playing small quietly limits your income, your opportunities, and your confidence—and what actually happens when you decide to aim higher. We talk through real examples of saying yes before you feel ready, making strategic moves that don't pay off immediately but compound over time, and why momentum only shows up after you take action. Growth doesn't come from waiting until fear disappears. It comes from moving forward despite it.This episode is for you if you've ever thought, “I'm not ready yet,” “That works for other people, not me,” or “I'll do it once things slow down.” We're breaking down why those thoughts keep you stuck, how successful creatives push past them, and what it looks like to build confidence through action instead of perfection. You are more capable than you think. You don't need permission, a perfect plan, or another year of overthinking. You just need to get started. If fear has been holding you back from raising your prices, expanding your income, or stepping into bigger opportunities, this episode will challenge you to move differently—and remind you that growth is available when you decide to go for it.Momentum is waiting. In Episode 246: The Art of Reinvention, Jacqueline dives into: Letting Go of Old Identities Why it's normal (and necessary) to outgrow previous versions of yourself—and how to recognize when it's time to pivot, shed labels, or reimagine your narrative. Transferring Your Skills Across Seasons You don't have to throw away your old life to step into a new one. Jacqueline shows you how past passions, careers, and "hidden lessons" stack into powerful expertise that can fuel your next chapter. Reinventing Yourself Without Losing Yourself Learn how to stay grounded, aligned with your values, and rooted in authenticity as you evolve. Guest Hurley Winkler is a writer and editor from Jacksonville, FL. Her newsletter, "Lonely Victories," is among the top Substack publications in the Literature category. She teaches creative writing at Flagler College. Summary In this episode, I speak with writer and teacher Hurley Winkler about journaling, creative practice, and building a sustainable writing life. Hurley traces her path to writing back to childhood anxiety and early journaling inspired by Harriet the Spy, and describes how writing eventually became her preferred independent art form after early interests in theater. She discusses her work as a writing teacher and how her philosophy balances encouragement with challenge while meeting students where they are. A central focus of the conversation is Julia Cameron's The Artist's Way, Hurley once interviewed Julia Cameron, including morning pages, artist dates, and creative accountability. Hurley shares how working through the program — especially with partners — helped her cultivate courage, clarify goals, and move forward with major creative and life decisions. The discussion also explores resistance, practical strategies for writing through it, and the value of containers like timed sessions and word counts. Finally, Hurley also reflects on leaving social media due to its addictive nature, how that decision led to an ADHD diagnosis and treatment, and how reclaiming attention is an ongoing process. Throughout, she emphasizes writing community, "lonely victories," and the importance of writer friendships in making the creative journey less solitary. The critical takeaway Writing may produce "lonely victories," but building writer friendships and community makes the creative journey more resilient and sustainable. Scott Fawcett flips the script and interviews me—Paul Salter, The Golf Hypnotherapist—to pull back the curtain on what hypnosis actually is (and what it's not), how it compares to meditation, and why so many golfers struggle with their mental game and stay stuck even when they "know what to do." We dig into the real reason consistency collapses (hint: it's not laziness), what I mean by destructive mindset programs, and how fear of next-level success quietly drives self-sabotage. I also explain memory reconsolidation—why your past isn't "over" just because you've compartmentalized it—and how releasing old emotional charge can free up energy, focus, and execution when it matters most. In this episode, you'll learn: The real difference between hypnosis and the "pocket watch" caricature Why meditation helps—but why it often isn't enough for identity-level change How fear of success can be the hidden reason you stop doing what works What "memory reconsolidation" is and how it impacts performance Why the yips and performance anxiety often have roots outside golf The difference between surface-level tools vs subconscious rewiring Why stress is often an "energy leak" from unresolved internal conflict If you've tried sports psychology, visualization, breathwork, and self-talk… and still feel like there's something deeper running the show, this conversation will connect a lot of dots. Instagram: @thepaulsalter Key Takeaways: Hypnosis isn't mind control—it's a natural brain state you already enter daily. The work is simply learning to access it intentionally for change. Meditation and hypnosis overlap in brainwaves, but hypnosis adds direction. It's not just relaxing—it's targeted problem-solving and identity work. Most inconsistency is subconscious protection, not lack of discipline. When success feels unfamiliar, the mind pulls you back toward "safe" and predictable. Self-sabotage is often sneaky and cumulative. It shows up as small broken promises (sleep, meditation, workouts), not just obvious destructive behaviors. Next-level performance requires detachment from outcome. "Need to / have to / should" language is a dead giveaway you're gripping the result. Memory reconsolidation changes your relationship with the past. You don't erase memories—you drain the emotional charge so they stop hijacking the present. Your golf game carries your whole life onto the course. Unresolved family dynamics, identity pressure, and old emotional pain can create mental interference that looks like "golf problems." Key Quotes: "Hypnosis…it's not magic. It's not brainwashing. It's a natural state of mind." "If you know what to do and you're not doing it…that's a mindset problem." "Most people are afraid of next level success or being the best version of themselves." "The sneaky lowercase-s self-sabotage…is breaking the little promises you keep to yourself." "You can control your process…but not the outcome." "Memory reconsolidation is like opening a Word document and doing some editing." "You bring your whole self to the golf course…most of the stressors are completely unrelated to golf." Happy Potluck Saturday, Heal Squad. Today's conversation with Kev and Anne starts with a dream… and turns into something much bigger. A BIG realization about obligation, over-functioning, and the roles we keep carrying long after we've outgrown them. The duo talks about what it means to help without feeling trapped, to revisit the past without being owned by it, and to recognize the moment when you no longer have to prove yourself the way you once did. If you've ever felt responsible for everything (all of us have at some point…) this one's a reminder that you're allowed to put some of that weight down. Talk shawtly! Ep #347 - Letting Go of Obsolete Thinking - A Solo Show with your host, Susan Burrell We are now in the first week of February 2026, and I am focusing on the collective message of awakening your inner authority. We are still feeling the effects of the Chinese Year of the Snake as it comes to a close—and through this process, we are continuing to shed all that no longer serves us. This is important to pay attention to as we approach the Year of the Fire Horse. Here, I am referring to the Chinese New Year, which begins on February 17, 2026. The Year of the Fire Horse represents fast, rapid timing, with life appearing to move quickly. Because of this, it's essential to listen to your inner authority and pause before making choices or reacting to what is occurring outside of yourself. I believe much of last year was about becoming aware of what no longer serves you—or the collective. As we approach the end of this phase, the Year of the Snake, I encourage you to notice what is showing up for you. Reflect on what no longer serves and allow yourself to let it go. Listen within to hear what is being communicated. This inner listening will help you step into the new and fully enter the Year of the Fire Horse. We are now creating for ourselves and co-creating what we want to see in our lives. This begins within the guidance system that lives in the heart-space. We are at a place where we can claim our own authority. This is ancient wisdom. It is intuition. It resides within each of us and will guide you—if you listen. Are you paying attention to it? Do you want to continue obsolete thinking? To keep doing what was, even when it no longer serves you? We have been conditioned to listen to others, to outer authority—but the time has come to listen within. To listen to yourself. To go deep. To quiet the outside noise so you can hear the whispers within. I say: trust that voice. Trust yourself, and release the obsolete thinking that has kept you stuck. This process requires exploration. Journaling may help. A meditative walk. Or simply going quiet and creating space to listen. What is needed now is a higher frequency of love and energy to prevail. So I ask you: Are you functioning at a low frequency? Are you allowing outside sources to dictate how you function? It is time to shift—to pay attention to what we are allowing to guide us—and to move from obsolete thinking and low-frequency energy into a state that embraces love, kindness, and higher-frequency awareness. This state becomes accessible when we listen to our inner authority, which lives within the heart-center. Fear places a veil over what we can truly hear and see. That's why it's important not to make decisions from a place of fear. Fear does not serve you—or the collective. My intention is to observe what is happening in the world without reacting from fear, but instead from an awakened inner authority. I invite you to come with me on this journey and learn how to tap into your own inner authority. GPS is Now Open! Visit https://takecontroladhd.com/gps to learn more and take control of your planning today! That “this year will be different” promise feels so good when it's fresh… and so brutal when the old patterns quietly return. In this episode, Pete and Nikki unpack why that boom-and-bust cycle hits so hard for ADHD brains: the early dopamine of a new system (or a newly organized sock drawer), the unrealistic maintenance expectations baked into most productivity advice, and the emotional crash that follows when the setup doesn't hold. They dig into the real trap underneath the resolution mindset—living in the gap between who you were yesterday and who you hope to be tomorrow—and how to pull your attention back to the only place you actually have leverage: today. Along the way, they talk about why asking for help can feel so risky (hello, shame and RSD), how to regulate before you ask, and what it looks like to reframe help as advocacy instead of rescue. The goal isn't becoming someone new. It's learning to support the person you already are, with more time, more buffer, and a lot less self-punishment.Links & NotesFree download! In this solo episode, I reflect on how parenting has changed since the 90s, and not always for the better. This episode is not about going backward or rejecting progress. It is about blending what we know now about emotions and development with what used to work well, giving kids space, time, and trust to grow. I explore how constant comparison, nonstop information, overscheduling, and screens have shifted parenting toward fear and control, often leaving parents exhausted and kids overwhelmed. I share why boredom matters, why independence is built in small moments, and how parenting feels lighter when it is guided by values instead of perfection. In this episode, I talk about: Why independence is a skill kids build through small, age-appropriate freedoms Why bullying feels heavier now, and how protecting home as a safe space matters How overscheduling crowds out confidence, creativity, and rest Why boredom is not a problem, but a skill kids need to practice A values-based approach to screens, using them intentionally instead of automatically Why errands, car rides, and everyday moments are real opportunities for growth Why doing less can help both kids and parents feel calmer and more confident 00:00 Parenting Like It's 1996 01:39 The Park Moment and Independence 02:56 Fear, Comparison, and Information Overload 05:45 Overscheduling and the Loss of Boredom 07:16 Screens Then vs Screens Now 11:15 Why Boredom Builds Confidence 13:00 Kids Belong in the Real World 13:58 What Parenting Has Improved 16:09 The Permission to Do Less 17:12 Letting Go of Perfect Parenting Our podcasts are also now on YouTube. I address the listeners who may feel exhausted from their efforts—those who have meditated, journaled, and engaged with various practices yet still feel a nagging sense of incompleteness. This conversation is about acknowledging that fatigue and giving space to the part of you that feels worn down by the journey.I draw on the wisdom of poet Mary Oliver, who beautifully states, "You only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves." This quote encapsulates the essence of today's reflection: the importance of recognizing the different types of exhaustion we face. There's the fatigue that stems from deep suffering and another, subtler kind that arises from continuous self-improvement efforts. Processing these can be exhausting, especially when practices intended to soothe can instead feel burdensome and lead to feelings of failure. It's crucial to emphasize that feeling worn out from healing is not indicative of personal shortcomings. This understanding can provide significant relief to those grappling with chronic emotional distress, where healing can be a lengthy and often taxing endeavour. I acknowledge that for some, the pathway to healing may appear smooth and straightforward, resembling a quick guide from A to B. Yet for others, the journey necessitates traversing through various challenges before reaching their goals. In this episode, I stand alongside those who feel the weight of healing fatigue, affirming that such feelings are valid and real.#AnxietyCoachesPodcast #HealingFatigue #AnxietyRecovery #MentalHealthAwareness #NervousSystemRegulation #SelfCareBurnout #GinaRyan #MaryOliver #Mindfulness #RestIsProductive #ChronicStress #InnerPeace #HealingJourney #EmotionalWellbeing #MentalRest #SelfCompassion #OvercomingAnxiety #BurnoutRecovery #GentleHealing #SoftAnimalOfYourBody #ACPSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
