Thom welcomes Dr. Chris Lohrstorfer, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Enrollment and Professor of Wesleyan Theology at Wesley Biblical Seminary. He talks about how many pastors ascribe to theologically orthodox trinitarianism, but haven't really thought through what it means for their ministry, especially the fullness of the role of the Holy Spirit. As a pastor himself and an educator of pastors, he is seeing the surprising shifts that can happen when the light bulb switches on for leaders about what it means to partner with the Spirit in ministry. Pastors in expensive cities often cannot afford stable housing on ministry salaries. That financial pressure quietly threatens their ability to serve. If you want to see your faith show up in practical, tangible ways at work and with your money, this episode gives you a real example of what that looks like. Key Discussion Points Nicole explains how the Aslan Housing Foundation builds down payment assistance programs for pastors, using church investors, donor-advised funds, and self-directed IRAs to fund stable housing without competing with the church's general giving. She describes a core operating value: do nothing about staff without staff. Surveys go out to both church leadership and pastoral staff before any housing strategy is built, so the people with the actual need have a voice in the solution. Nicole unpacks what she calls a triple bottom line for investors: market-rate financial returns, a stabilized ministry, and a more secure pastor and family. She talks about how she brings her faith into secular professional settings without forcing it, including sending a simple email to a real estate team in Hawaii during flooding to let them know she was praying for their safety. She and host Addison Williams discuss how Christians in any profession hold two marketplace roles: what they do with their time at work and what they do with their money outside of it. About the Guest Nicole Marie Bergeron is the founder and CEO of Aslan Housing Foundation, a California-based nonprofit that helps churches develop housing strategies for their pastoral staff. She holds a joint degree in law and public policy and spent two decades in philanthropy and social impact work before launching Aslan in 2018. Her background gives her a systems-level view of a problem most church leaders have never named out loud. FrontStage BackStage with Jason Daye - Healthy Leadership for Life and Ministry
Something feels off in ministry today. Many pastors find themselves performing more than shepherding, and quietly wondering if this is what they were called to.Many pastors don't set out to drift into unhealthy ministry. But over time, something begins to feel off. The expectations grow. The demands increase. The metrics become clearer. And yet, beneath it all, there's a quiet tension… is this really what pastoring is meant to be?In this highlight from our full conversation (https://youtu.be/m12WtQ-koy4?si=Y5dvebeF7RBP_pS0), host Jason Daye sits down with Glenn Packiam to explore how the pastoral calling has been subtly reshaped by cultural pressure, congregational expectations, and a results-driven ministry mindset. What once centered on presence, prayer, and shepherding has, in many contexts, shifted toward performance, platform, and productivity.Together, they explore:Why so many pastors experience a growing disconnect in their roleHow cultural and church expectations reshape pastoral identity over timeWhere performance-driven ministry begins to take holdWhy a biblical and historic vision of shepherding still matters todayHow presence, prayer, and formation re-anchor the pastoral callingWhat it looks like to recover clarity, joy, and groundedness in ministryThis episode is especially helpful for pastors and ministry leaders who sense that something isn't quite right, even when everything appears to be working. It offers clarity and hope for those longing to return to a more faithful and sustainable vision of pastoral life.Looking to dig more deeply into this topic and conversation? Senator Jon Ossoff recently walked into Beulah Missionary Baptist Church in Decatur, Georgia, opened the Book of Amos, and delivered one of the most theologically precise speeches I've heard from any political figure in years. In 8 minutes and 41 seconds, he did what MAGA pastors with massive platforms and full-time theology staffs refuse to do: name the corruption, place it in a 3,000-year-old prophetic tradition, and connect it to the suffering of real people in real zip codes. Ossoff is not pandering. He's not decorating a political speech with Bible verses. He's doing exegesis — and he's doing it in front of a Black Baptist congregation with a 60-year covenant to the civil rights movement. That matters theologically.
Jeff Durbin -1 Corinthians 1:18-31- I want to thank our Lord for the blessing, honor, and privilege have had in preparing and delivering messages from the Book of Proverbs these last few years. This sermon series was so challenging to me, personally. It was challenging in at least two ways: 1. Preaching through Proverbs is a very different preparation, process, and delivery than other types of books and letters in the Scriptures. Many Pastors have told me they have avoided preaching through it because of the unique challenges it presents in delivering weekly expositional messages through the book. 2. The content in this marvelous book is so cutting, convicting, and transforming it had to always be preached to myself before I ever dared bring it to you. I've been changed. And 1 am so grateful. Today, we are on the final summary message on the Wisdom from Above: Christ is the true Wisdom of God. May God bless us all to see this incredible truth.
Monique and Krista sit down with attorney Hohn Cho to discuss domestic violence and abuse within the church and how Christian leaders can respond with greater wisdom, compassion, and biblical fidelity. Pastors in their 30s run on energy. Pastors in their 40s have to learn to run on something else. In this episode, we get honest about what that transition actually looks and feels like — from preaching five services a weekend and doing sermon planning at 9:30 PM, to realizing that the highest-leverage thing you can do for your church isn't more hours, it's better decisions. We walk through Arthur Brooks' From Strength to Strength, the warrior-to-king framework, and what the Bible has to say about the glory of gray hair. June 21, 2026 In Ephesians 3:14–21, Paul's prayer reminds us that our greatest need isn't external success, but internal strength rooted in God's love. As we allow Christ to fully make His home within us, His love reshapes who we are from the inside out. Paul invites us to live, lead, and parent from that foundation—trusting that God can do far more through us than we could ever imagine. About this Sermon Series God has always had a plan. The book of Ephesians reveals the incredible story of God's plan to bring salvation to all people through Jesus Christ and unite them into one family. In this 13-week series, we'll discover what it means to live with purpose as people who have been chosen, redeemed, and called by God. Along the way, we'll explore how the Holy Spirit transforms our everyday relationships—with family, friends, the Church, and the world around us. Ephesians is an invitation to step into God's greater story and live the kind of life we were created for.
In this Fire Away Q&A service, Pastor Brian and Dr. Dennis Episcopo sit on stage together (it just so happens to be Father's Day, and Dr. Dennis is Pastor Brian's actual dad) and answer the questions our congregation texts in live. No script, no preselected questions, no editing. Just real pastoral answers to the things people are actually wrestling with.Pastor Brian and Dr. Dennis Episcopo open with a question almost everyone new to faith eventually asks. How do you read the Bible when it feels impossibly large and confusing? They recommend starting in the Gospel of Mark or Luke (Jesus is the point of the whole Bible, so go straight to him), then layering in Proverbs for everyday wisdom, and using a basic study guide like Halley's or Unger's when you get into the Old Testament. The tithing conversation that follows is honest and not soft. Dr. Dennis Episcopo points out that Jesus endorsed tithing in the New Testament and that the principle of percentage giving (10 percent of the gross before anything else) is the only biblical percentage anywhere in Scripture. Pastor Brian shares how multiple people in the church recently told him, unsolicited, that giving sacrificially was the moment everything else in their faith and marriage started to heal. Then the conversation gets harder. If God can heal, why does he allow sickness? Their answer leans on John 9 (the man born blind, "so that the works of God might be displayed in him") and the truth that suffering matures us in ways nothing else does. Pastor Brian adds the line that lands hardest. Suffering is God asking us, am I enough? The parenting question hits anyone in the throes of raising young kids. Family dinners. Annual family only vacations. The marriage prioritized above the parenting. The line they both come back to is that more is caught than taught. They close with the Great Commission in Matthew 28. A disciple is not an egghead loaded with knowledge. A disciple is someone who makes other disciples. The Greek "as you are going" matters. Discipleship happens in the ordinary cadence of real life, not in a special program. And Jesus is with you in it.

This week, we looked at the foundational truth of living rooted and grounded in the love of our Heavenly Father. Just as healthy roots provide strength, stability, and nourishment for a tree, God's love is the foundation that sustains and strengthens our lives. His love is wider, longer, deeper, and higher than we have yet experienced, and He is continually inviting us to discover more. The more deeply we are rooted in His love, the stronger we become, the more resilient we are in difficult seasons, and the more fruit we are able to produce for His glory.Ephesians 3:17-19 NKJV - that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what [is] the width and length and depth and height– to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.God never intended for us to simply know about His love. He wants us to live in it, draw from it, and be transformed by it. When we allow our roots to go deep into His love, fear loses its grip, insecurity gives way to confidence, and weariness is replaced with strength. No matter what season you are facing, His love remains constant, sufficient, and available. This week, take time to receive the Father's love afresh. Spend time in His presence, meditate on His promises, and allow Him to reveal new dimensions of His heart toward you.Restore Church | Yorkville, ILSunday Mornings | 10 AMJordan & Melissa Gash, Pastorshttps://www.restorechurchyorkville.com

Am I making a difference? Am I fulfilling my purpose? Am I doing the right things? Will this work ever end? If you've asked yourself these questions, you may be experiencing purpose fatigue—the exhaustion that comes from carrying responsibility, striving to make an impact, and wondering if your efforts are enough. You're not alone. Even the prophet Elijah wrestled with burnout, overwhelm, and discouragement. This is Episode 2 of "Taking Care of Mind, Body & Spirit," a five-part series exploring modern wellness challenges through the wisdom of Scripture. Drawing from 1 Kings 19:1-4, 9-14, Rev. Trudy D. Robinson and Sheilah Cameron, LMFT, explore Elijah's experience of burnout and what it can teach us about purpose, rest, and resilience today. Whether you're struggling to find joy in your work, questioning your impact, feeling emotionally exhausted, or sensing that something is off in your calling, this conversation offers practical and spiritual insight. In this episode, we discuss: Why purpose fatigue and burnout happen Warning signs of purpose fatigue, including catastrophizing, all-or-nothing thinking, loss of joy, and struggles with control Practical ways to prevent burnout through self-care, healthy boundaries, and work management strategies The role of gratitude in sustaining hope during difficult seasons How to recognize when your calling or season of service may be shifting About the Series For five weeks, the female pastors of First United Methodist Church of San Diego and Sheilah Cameron, Director of New Life Counseling Center, explore what it means to care for mind, body, and spirit. Together, they discuss information overload, purpose fatigue, mental health, grief, identity, and other challenges through the lens of biblical wisdom and the lives of the prophets. What holds a church together? In this sermon, Pastor Taylor reflects on five years of ministry at Horicon Baptist Church and walks through Paul's description of the church as the household of God, the church of the living God, and the pillar and buttress of the truth. The church is called to hold the Gospel firm and hold it high, but the Gospel is also the foundation that creates, sustains, and preserves the church.Pastors come and go. Did an extended recap of what I covered for 1 Tim 2, and then began my discussion of 1 Cor 14:33-35. I concluded:1. Paul's teaching pertains to public worship.2. "As in all the churches of the saints" in 33b is the start of the sentence that continues in v.34, and thus it's clear that Paul is not talking about a local circumstance but a universal church practice. 3. Paul is likely referring to men and women in general, not husbands and wives in particular. When everything around a church is changing, how can it rediscover who God has called it to be? In this episode we welcome Rev. Dr. Ryan Jackson, Senior Pastor of the Capital Church near Raleigh, North Carolina, to talk about his experience in the CPT's first Church Identity Cohort.Ryan reflects on 17 years of ministry through seasons of change, staff transitions, and post-pandemic challenges that prompted his church to revisit foundational questions of identity and mission. We discuss the connection between pastoral and ecclesial identity, the role of theological reflection in church life, and the importance of forming leaders who can faithfully guide congregations into the future. We also explore the value of mentoring, cross-denominational dialogue, and collaborative discernment as churches seek a deeper understanding of who God has called them to be.Whether you're a pastor, church leader, or ministry team member, this episode offers practical encouragement for leading with clarity, conviction, and a strong sense of church identity.Join us at the CPT Conference
In Episode 3 of their June series on pastors who have helped shape their spiritual lives, Greg and Nathan discuss two influential voices whose ministries have deepened their understanding of Scripture and the Christian faith. Greg highlights Mark Dever and his commitment to healthy churches, biblical preaching, and discipleship, while Nathan shares about R. C. Sproul and his profound teaching on the holiness of God, theology, and the authority of Scripture. After providing a brief biography of each pastor, they reflect on what they appreciate most about their ministries and how God has used their teaching to encourage growth, conviction, and a deeper love for Christ. Join us for a thoughtful conversation about faithful ministry and the pastors who have influenced our walk with the Lord.
