Pastor Jake teaches at Verse Church on 1 John 4: 1-12. Love and truth are found in the life, death, and resurection of Jesus. 1 John 4:9 - God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his one and only Son into the world so that we might live through him.
Pastor Jake teaches on the love and assurance from God that we find detailed in 1 John 3: 18-24
The Bible tells us that as followers of Jesus we have been adopted as God's children and made joint-heirs with Jesus to God's kingdom. If that is our identity in Christ, what does the Bible say about sin in our life? Pastor Jake digs into 1 John 3 to show us how children of the sinless king should live. The problem is we don't have what it takes to fight the unseen battle within us and around us. The solution is to gain a strength other than our own, God's strength through His Spirit. We do this because everything is at stake and because the Devil prowls around like a roaring lion seeking someone to devour. If we don't take this spiritual battle seriously we could be getting chewed up and not even know it. Listen to this sermon from guest speaker Johnny Houston as he teaches through Ephesians 3:14-16 and gives practical steps to walk in a strength other than our own.
In this sermon we see that when John talks about Jesus and his example, he can't help but to talk about Jesus' love for us and our love for one another. Love and maturity go hand in hand with our Christian life. For more info check out Verse.Church
As we jump into 1 John Chapter 2 we learn how sin affects our lives as disciples of Jesus as well as how Jesus deals with our sin. 1 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. 2 He is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world. 3 We know that we have come to know him if we keep his commands. 4 Whoever says, “I know him,” but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in that person. 5 But if anyone obeys his word, love for God is truly made complete in them. This is how we know we are in him: 6 Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did. For more info go to www.Verse.Church

As we jump into Romans chapter 15 our guest speaker Johnny Houston brings us a message about glorifying our God of hope through building each other up.
Living in community, being the church, the body of Christ - takes sacrifice Jesus modeled this in his life. He chose to live in community with other people and this is what he told them- Mark 10:45- 45 For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” What do we do with the liberty we have in Christ when we live in community like God instructs in scripture? Let’s see what Romans 14: 13-23 says...
How should we respond to the incredible mercy God has shown to us? How do those in Christ live, now that we have received God's great mercy for us? Paul began Romans 12 by declaring that the only reasonable response is to become living sacrifices in service to God. We have been looking at instructions for Christian living in regard to relationships inside and outside the church. How do we relate to our brothers and sisters in Christ and how do we relate to the world of people not following Jesus. Now in Chapter 14 he continues that idea with regard to our freedom in Christ What do we do with the Liberty we have in Christ? The short answer is “in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God” Romans 12:1
As we open Romans 13 we see Paul continue the theme of how christians are to lives of sacrifice. Now Paul talks about how Christians who are saved by God's grace should interact with governments and loving their neighbor.
In this Easter message from Verse Church called This Changes Everything, Pastor Jake looks at passages in Romans that tell us how the resurrection of Jesus from the dead changes everything in our lives. Enjoy!
