Welcome to episode 1 of Your Friendly Neighborhood Mental Health Counselor. This episode serves as an intro to the podcast and what to expect in episodes to come.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Mental Health Counselor is a podcast dedicated to providing easy to digest knowledge related to mental health. Mental health is vital to everyday life, yet is misunderstood by many people. Due to the portrayal of mental health treatment in the media through movies, music or news coverage, many people see mental health struggles as an individual being "crazy" or "mess up in the head". Such thinking can invalidate the importance of mental health and make it difficult for people to receive treatment. The goal of this space is to educate and show that mental health is not only important, complex work that we all need to partake in in some way, shape, or form but it's also good work that improves our lives.
