Stamets was able to bring Discovery back to its universe but unfortunately he overshot in time by 9 months and in those nine months there has been a brutal and relentless effort by the various houses of the Klingon empire to bring the Federation to its Knees as updated maps show that nearly 20% of Federation space is now occupied. Captain Saru is faced with bringing the ship back to full operations and we get follow ups on everyone’s condition and state of mind especially Tyler who seems to be himself again and he decides to keep the Empress a secret for the time being. Just when things seem like they can’t get more interesting Admiral Cornwall beams aboard with an assault team to take the Discovery because as far as she was concerned the Discovery was destroyed 9 months ago. After a mind meld with Saru - Sarek succinctly sheds light on the situation and the crew get to work immediately with how they can turn the tide of the war but Admiral Cornwall fears its too late until the Federation is given a proposal by the Empress who seem to be setting up the pieces for some kind of grand chess game Its all too crazy and all too exciting and we still have one episode to go! My Guests today are Nick from https://www.youtube.com/ketwolski and Trekkie Rob!
All three hosts return to discuss Star Trek: Discovery Episode 14 “The War Without, the War Within”! We dive into Klingon-Federation history, their many conflicts, the legitimacy of the Four Year War, the incredible position Georgiou has been placed in, and what we think will happen with Ash Tyler and L’Rell. What did you think...
The USS Discovery finds itself back in the prime universe nine months from the time they unexpectedly ended up in the Mirror universe. They are forcibly boarded by Federation officers and officials, including Admiral Katrina Cornwell and Ambassador Sarek. The Discovery crew learn the Klingons are winning the war having destroyed over 1/3 of the Federation fleet and taken over 20% of Federation territory. The Discovery’s Mirror counterparts, the ISS Discovery was destroyed by The Klingons soon after it appeared in the prime universe. The Klingons are not united. Instead, Klingon houses are wantonly destroying Federation efforts to demonstrate dominance among the other Klingon dynasties. L’Rell advises Cornwell, now that the Klingons have tasted their blood, they will not stop the destruction until the Federation and its people are annihilated. Michael Burnham turns to Mirror Georgiou for advice, since the former Terran Emperor has had success against the Klingons in her world. Burnham subsequently reveals Mirror Georgiou’s presence and identity to Sarek and Admiral Cornwall. Desperate to find a way to save the Federation, with Sarek’s knowledge Cornwell places Mirror Georgiou in command of the Discovery under the ruse that she is actually the former Captain of the Shengzhou. Cornwell claimed Georgiou had been presumed dead but actually had been held by the Klingons and was recently rescued in a covert operation. Georgiou is now charged with leading a mission to – Kronos - the Klingon home world – where they are to gather intel to destroy key military assets to decisively turn the tide of the war to the Federation’s favor.
After the mission at Pahvo proves to be a failure, Starfleet orders Captain Lorca to bring the discovery into the safety of Federation space even though that means the Pahvans will surely meet their doom at the hands of the Klingons, so instead, Captain Lorca feigns problems with his spore drive to buy the crew time to come up with a solution. The solution the come up with is quite complex but its the best they've got and so they get right to it, hoping their efforts will end the war by disabling the one advantage the Klingons have over the Federation, a cloaking screen. The crew are successful and they even manage to recover Admiral Cornwall and manage to capture the Klingon L'Rell along the way, but it comes at great cost to poor Commander Tyler and just when we think they'll get a rest, the Discovery jumps to an unknown place that is not registering on any star charts. Is she in another dimension, or universe, perhaps the mirror Universe, perhaps the prime timeline? We'll have to wait till January 7th to find out but you can find out what we thought of this episode of Star Trek Discovery by tuning in.
Saru gets an away mission but before that, non-corporeal aliens show up a lot in Star Trek. In fact, the Q and Voyager’s Kes are among some of the more well known energy beings. This week, we talk about our favorite non-corporeal alien episodes of Star Trek and we manage to cover three different series...
Sarek is injured in a terrorist attack and Burnham may be his only hope. Meanwhile, Admiral Cornwall arrives on Discovery and is questioning Lorca's recent decisions and fitness to command.
