Malcolm McDowell joins cast members from the 1960s television show Star Trek and the 1987 sequel series The Next Generation, including William Shatner and Patrick Stewart. In the film, Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the USS Enterprise-D joins forces with Captain James T. Kirk to stop the villain Tolian Soran from destroying a planetary system in his attempt to return to an extra-dimensional realm known as the Nexus. Generations was conceived as a transition from the original cast of the Star Trek films to the cast of The Next Generation. After developing several film ideas concurrently, the producers chose a script written by Ronald D. Moore and Brannon Braga. Production began while the final season of the television series was being made. The director was David Carson, who previously directed episodes of the television series; photography was by franchise newcomer John A. Alonzo. Filming took place on the Paramount Studios lots, and on location in Valley of Fire State Park, Nevada, and Lone Pine, California. The film's climax was revised and reshot following poor reception from test audiences. The film uses a mix of traditional optical effects alongside computer-generated imagery and was scored by regular Star Trek composer Dennis McCarthy. Star Trek Generations was released in the United States on November 18, 1994. Paramount promoted the film with merchandising tie-ins, including toys, books, games, and a website—a first for a major motion picture. The film opened at the top of the United States box office in its first week of release and grossed a total of $118 million worldwide. Critical reception was mixed, with critics divided on the film's characters and comprehensibility to a casual viewer. In the Star Trek: Voyager episode Author, Author, The Doctor takes his first stab at fiction, but his holonovel hits a little too close to home. Captain Jenkins is a sadist, Tulak relishes punishment, and Lt. Marseilles just wants to get in your pants. The crew is shocked. The Doctor calls it “art,” and a Federation publisher calls it “contractually locked.” As Voyager debates creative expression vs. defamation, a deeper issue emerges: does the author have rights? “Photons Be Free”—but only if Starfleet says so, in Author, Author on this week's Mission Log. This week we're diving into Starfleet's creepiest corners! Where tribbles multiply faster than your ex's bad decisions, and the Gorn make every away mission feel like Predator with phasers. From salt vampires to evil exxon oil spills, we're counting down the monsters that made us scream, laugh, and question the Federation's HR policies. So grab your tricorder, dim the lights, and prepare for a transporter malfunction straight into the Monster Mash of the Final Frontier. It's spooky, it's slimy, it's Star Trek at its weirdest...and we love it.

From the Star Trek Adventure at Universal Studios to The Star Trek Experience in Las Vegas, the franchise has a long and fascinating history with theme parks. Were you like me, thinking, say I wonder what young Wesley Crusher is up to? Is he surfing the galaxy fantastic with his pal The Traveler? Has he gone off to join the cast of Stand By Me, Too — Still Standing By You? Or has he launched a boy band — it's the 90's after all! Wesley and the Crushers! No, no, and no — none of that happened. Instead, we go to Earth in this episode and find “Cadet Crusher” at Starfleet and almost dead! That's right! Wesley was in an accident and almost died. That accident, the one where he almost died… Well, things aren't exactly adding up and Wesley and the rest of Nova Squadron are under inquiry because a cadet died during their maneuvers! Nova Squad's leader, Nicholas Locarno, leans on the surviving cadets, Wesley included, to keep the details of their “Yeager Loop” maneuver fuzzy. It takes Starfleet, Captain Picard and crew, and some help from My Favorite Martian to untangle the truth. Will Wesley Crusher have the moral courage to stand up for what's right and make the title of this episode make sense? Will Picard be able to express the heartfelt gratitude for his own moral foibles? Will Gates McFadden, one of the finest actors on the show, be asked to sit on her hands and fret all episode? A once theoretical “Null Space” has been found – theoretical? Maybe, but Null plus Null always equals Null! A race of androgo-noians – talk about NULL! The Enterprise swings its “D” into uncharted territory and takes on the brave new world of gender politics for the first time! Talk about boldly going. (The fans were begging for the show to address gay characters – fans, please, stop begging!) After all, we had Riker playing second in command to the Matriarch in “Angel One” in Season One! Remember all that Frakes nipple play? If that wasn't enough gender-bending, this time ol' Johnny falls in love with a J'nailian who doesn't play by normal J'nailian rules – she's GAAAAAAAY for Johnny! By the way, they've lost their shuttle in some null space and need the Enterprise to enter that Null space, carefully! Be careful on the entry… and PULL their shuttle safely out! So, Riker and this J'nailian get crammed into a Starfleet shuttle and sparks fly – this time Rikes ass is getting zapped but in a good way! Riker is smitten by this non-gendering space… person! Will Next Gen be able to navigate the complications of gender assignment in 1992? Will Riker get to expose his bare chest to the J'nailian? Will they ever get that shuttle out of null-space? What the fuck is Null Space anyway? Find out in this new exciting adventure on ST:TNGeez! Not Another Star Trek Podcast!Even more available at: https://tngeez.com

“What Is Starfleet?” The long-teased documentary by Umberto Ortegas has finally been released. “Starfleet presents themselves as our quadrant's shining example of duty, honor, peacekeeping,” says the little brother of Erica Ortegas, who flies the ship. “But what separates a federation from an empire? Both colonize. Both impose their laws and doctrines on others. Are they explorers as they claim? Or soldiers as they appear? They call their vessels starships. What distinguishes them from warships?” Filming a mission during which the Enterprise is ordered to transport cargo that turns out to be a sentient being that turns out to have been transformed into a weapon certainly begs answers to those questions. As viewers, we watch the findings of this young investigative reporter unfold and lead him down a path he may not have expected. In this episode of Saddle Up! hosts C Bryan Jones and Matthew Rushing continue our journey through Strange New Worlds with “What Is Starfleet?” We discuss the documentary concept, Beto's agenda, and pacing in short seasons as well as the big question (and whether the story answers it). Episode 7 of Season 3 of Strange New Worlds gives us one of the most unique episodes of Star Trek that the franchise has seen. The episode gives a traditional Star Trek story but wrapped up in a documentary, led by Beto Ortegas. The beginning of the episode shows, what appears to be, a very slanted view of what Starfleet is by Beto as he asks very difficult questions about Starfleet and their mission and purpose. Characters are interviewed and we see events unfold through the lens of this documentary from the Starfleet Archives.

“Strange New Worlds” gets the documentary treatment this week, as the Enterprise is confronted with some difficult choices that call into question some of Starfleet’s most deeply held beliiefs. The documentary has a real character arc, going from deep skepticism to a final understanding in just 40 minutes. Unfortunately, that’s not how documentaries work! Scott McNulty and Jason Snell.
Candyman Tony Todd appears as Jake Sisko through the ages - and in some insane age make-up! Todd and Avery Brooks also go head-to-head in a real theatrical-acting-off! Meanwhile Matt asks the question - couldn't somebody at Starfleet have helped Jake with any of this? [Episode discussion begins 1:13ish. Voyager spoiler at 13:50ish for those who practice. Dan is one half of Breaking Mayberry, an anti-nostalgia podcast about watching old TV (starting with, as the title suggests, The Andy Griffith Show) and figuring out how it broke your grandparents' brains. After last week's episode all about analyzing TV and talking about storytelling, we wanted to spotlight the fun and goofiness of old genre TV. In the Star Trek: Voyager episode, Flesh and Blood, remember when Janeway handed over Starfleet holodeck tech to the Hirogen? Well, they ran with it, built a blood-soaked holosafari. Now their prey is sentient, self-aware, and hunting back. The Doctor is torn between creator and creation, and Voyager's crew goes on the endangered species list. Mission Log enters “Flesh and Blood.” Hosted by John Champion and Norman Lao Welcome to Mission Log, a Roddenberry Entertainment podcast, where we explore the Star Trek universe one episode at a time. Each week, Mission Log examines a single episode of Star Trek, diving into its ethical subtext, metaphors, and cultural significance. From the show's most iconic moments to its hidden gems, we analyze what makes Star Trek one of the greatest science fiction sagas of all time. In every episode of Mission Log we… Recap the story and analyze key moments. Discuss the morals, messages, and meanings of the dilemmas presented. Debate whether the episode holds up and if the themes are still relevant. Join the Conversation: For as little as $1 a month, you can gain access to our exclusive Discord Community!
