PJ, Mat and Eliot join Captain Lorca as he gets taken prisoner by Klingons, and meets a classic Star Trek character, Harcourt Fenton Mudd! Plus! We love the Discovery cast. Especially Wilson Cruz. He's dreamy. Look, we might be crushing slightly on Wilson Cruz. And really, can you blame us? On this episode, Jeff Akin reviews Star Trek Discovery, Into the Forest I Go (Season 1, Episode 9). He will examine the leadership approaches of Captain Lorca. Effective leadership requires living in both the present and the future simultaneously. It's the leader's job to craft a vision for the future and get others to buy into and share that vision. The leader should connect with people with both good intent and good perception and reception so that others share the vision and move there with them. The leader needs to get really good at describing the future as they live in the present. It's also important to connect with people in personal and meaningful ways that are uniquely meaningful to each of them. Finally, the leader must recognize and reinforce when people help move from the present into the future. By fostering a shared vision and recognizing champions, leaders can start living in the next future and connect in the next present to keep everybody moving forward. The episode emphasizes the importance of recognizing and reinforcing the contributions of team members who share and actively work towards the shared vision. Jeff Akin explains that as a leader, it is not only your job to craft a vision for the future, but more importantly, to get others to buy into and share that vision. This can be achieved by fostering a shared vision and recognizing your champions. By doing so, it enables you to start living in the next future and connect with people with both good intent and good perception and reception so that others share your vision and move there with you. The episode also highlights the importance of understanding what motivates people and how to use that as recognition or to encourage motivation. Ultimately, recognizing and reinforcing the contributions of team members who share and actively work towards the shared vision is crucial for success. On this episode, Jeff Akin reviews Star Trek Discovery, Lethe (Season 1, Episode 6). He will examine the leadership approaches of Captain Lorca and Michael Burnham. Captain Lorca is a master manipulator. We see him offer things to people to advance his own agenda. Jeff will adapt this self-serving approach so that you can use it in a way that benefits everyone. It's SELFISH vs SELFLESS. Jeff also breaks down some incredible coaching that Michael Burnham offers to Tilly. All that while wearing some of the coolest Star Trek shirts ever! This week on Episode 518 of Priority One: Comic-Con@home brings us new trailers for Star Trek: Prodigy and Lower Decks, and Saru and Stamets look ahead to season four of Discovery. In gaming news, we go back and forth on the Courage-class coming to Star Trek Online, and some new shiny textures for your favourite Romulan Captain. TREK IT OUT Edited by Thomas Reynolds Comic-Con@home - Lower Decks By Cat Hough As we anxiously await the premiere of Season 2 of Lower Decks, we were treated to a brand new trailer last week during Comic-Con@home. Based on the trailer, Season 2 has all the things we loved in Season 1 plus so much more. How much more? The best villains! Including Cardassians, Pakleds, Ferengi, Nauciscans, some giant slime monster and the incomparable Jeffrey Combs makes an appearance as an evil computer. We also see a new Tamarian crew member who had this to say when welcomed to the bridge: “Rapungee - when he joined the Seven.” https://youtu.be/IxdKo0eXUKY Tom Paris also shows up in Season 2...in commemorative plate form, though. Also, an interesting side note in the news: Robert Duncan McNeill was invited to reprise Tom Paris for Season 1 of Picard but, due to scheduling conflicts. he was not able to make it work. So maybe we'll see more Tom Paris at some point. Season 2 of Star Trek: Lower Decks starts August 12 on Paramount+. Comic-Con@home - Prodigy By Jake Morgan But Lower Decks wasn't the only Star Trek series to get some Comic-Con attention. We were also treated to our first look at Star Trek: Prodigy! In the 52 second trailer for Prodigy's inaugural season, we're introduced to the main cast: Dal, Gwyn, Zero, Rok-Tahk, Murf, and Jankom Pog, The main cast also features the stunning new-to-crew U.S.S. Protostar (which looks like a cross of the Intrepid- and Rhode Island-class) and the timeless Captain Katherine Janeway–who reminds us that ”we've only just begun.” https://youtu.be/987jSJZQxTs During the Comic-con@home panel, the creators, director, and cast–including Star Trek royalty Kate Mulgrew–joined the ever-entertaining Jerry O'Connell to discuss the newest Star Trek series. EP Kevin Hageman pointed out that this would be the first Star Trek series ”that's actually going to be seen through the eyes of characters who are outside of Starfleet.” In discussing Prodigy's place in Star Trek mythos, the Hageman brothers recognized that this would be the “Little Brother or Little Sister” member of the franchise, but wanted to “punch up.” Kate Mulgrew reiterated the sentiment, saying “Children are very astute. You've grasped an essential component of the childlike imagination, which is extraordinary perception. They need to be grounded while taking flight at the same time. And this–you have achieved.” The trailer is a must watch, and the panel is super-entertaining and informative. Stamets And Saru In Season 4 By Rosco McQueen Everyone's favorite Kelpien [the other white meat–Ed.] has been on the interview circuit in the past couple of weeks, with Doug Jones talking about the release of Discovery Season 3 on DVD. In an interview with SYFY Wire, Jones spoke about Saru's heartbreak at the revelation that a fellow Kelpien was responsible for the Burn. He also confirmed that filming on Season 4 continues in Toronto and, even though Saru's left the command chair, he still has plenty to do. "Damn, Starbase 80?!?" Image: Michael Gibson/CBS, via SYFY. “After we got home to LA during hiatus last year, I called Michelle Paradise myself and said, 'Should I expect to go back for Season 4? Because, they left me on-camera teaching Su'Kal the ways of the Kelpians.' She said, ‘Oh, no, you're back. You're back.' But the question will remain that Starfleet does not strip you of your rank, so I am still a captain. Where do they plug me in? That's the question.” In an interview with Screen Rant, Discovery actor Anthony Rapp spoke about the cast and their Dungeons & Dragons sessions, and rejected claims he'll become the series villain. You may suspect that's where the relationship is going–at the end of Season 3 we saw Paul Stamets not being particularly friendly with the newly-minted Captain Michael Burnham. When you find out you have to be the party healbot. Image: ViacomCBS, via ScreenRant Rapp was quick to shut down the villain rumors. “No, no. He's like a consummate professional. He hated [Captain] Lorca but he still did his job. And he doesn't hate Michael. He was just hurt. It was a different situation. Ultimately, he's a smart person and understands [why Michael became Captain] but it still stung, the way that it happened.” Quick News Roundup Here are a few headlines that we didn't discuss but might interest you. What is it like to host Jeopardy!? According to LeVar Burton, it's scary. But he said once he focused on making the most of his hosting chances and stopped trying to “be as smooth as Alex” that he was able to relax more and be his wonderful self. We hope you all have had a chance to Trek out his episodes. Marina Sirtis spoke about the on-again off-again idea of a Captain Worf series, throwing her support behind it. She explained she would love to be a small part of it, and the potential of having a series focused on the Klingons. And at the recent Comic-Con@home event, the Stargate Atlantis reunion panel had some small Trek nuggets for aspiring sci-fi actors. Robert Picardo spoke about the fan crossover between Star Trek and Stargate, and how his previous acting roles meant he was better prepared for science fiction roles. His advice: get your feet wet in some other acting jobs before delving into the world of sci-fi. STAR TREK GAMING NEWS Edited by Thomas Reynolds Courage Of Your Promotions By Cat Hough https://youtu.be/-hUBGqt1f5g Star Trek Online continues to look to the future–or at least continues to look to Discovery when picking new promo ships. This week, the 32nd century Courage-class Command Science Destroyer joins the list of ships available as a R&D and Duty Officer pack reward choice. This ship switches from Science Mode to Tactical Mode by reversing direction. In Tactical Mode, you get access to a Commander Tactical station, the Coherent Integrity Projector Experimental Weapon is enabled and you get a boost to hull capacity. It's a Science ship–but it's also a Destroyer so it's equipped with 4 front and 3 aft weapons [or is it 3 front and 4 aft?–Ed.]. The starship trait, Directional Bias, provides bonus Exotic Damage or Healing when using bridge officer abilities based on where you are attacked. Overall, this ship looks to provide a lot of build options for those lucky enough to win one. Now does that make it any easier to parallel park, though. Image: Cryptic Studios. Let Freedom BLAST By Cat Hough Starting today through August 2nd, the Freedom-class Exploration Frigate, otherwise known as the U.S.S. Franklin from Star Trek: Beyond will be available in the Lobi Store. Plus! Everything in the Lobi Store is 20% off. The ship's unique console is the interesting VHF Disruptive Transmission. When activated, it will blast high frequency radio waves towards nearby foes, dealing significant electrical damage and boosts your turning radius while it's active. And it can be equipped in any console slot, on any ship. D'deridex? Don't Mind If I Do By Cat Hough Some breaking news for Romulan ship fans [we know you're out there–Ed.]: the D'deridex and Scimitar classes are freshly remastered starting today. Just when you were getting bored with those ships' looks, they go and make them all shiny. Thanks to Donny "Viper" Versiga, a ship artist at Cryptic for posting some excellent before and after images–it's so nice to see those ships get some love. https://twitter.com/trekonlinegame/status/1420100137716621315?s=20 It's Canon: Donny Loves Connie By Rosco McQueen Speaking of Donny, he recently spoke with the folks at MassivelyOP about ship design. They covered off his favourite captain (Kirk) and his favorite starship (Connie refit) in short order, then went on to talk about the design process for Star Trek Online. Donny explains that fresh designs are from the incredibly talented Hector Ortiz, with as many as 20 designs put together as the team refines the looks of a particular ship. 3-D models are created, then once the final ship design is selected, that model is sent to the Ship Team to build. so i herd u liek starships. Image: Cryptic Studios, via MassivelyOP. He also spoke about the updates to older Starship models, which has become a large part of the game. Donny explains that as PC/console hardware power has increased over the years, the amount of detail STO can provide per ship has increased, sometimes three times as much detail as was previously seen on starship models. It's a great look behind the scenes at the process.

Wen interessierts?
On this episode, Jeff Akin reviews Star Trek Discovery, The Butcher's Knife Cares Not for the Lamb's Cry (Season 1, Episode 4). He will examine the leadership approaches of Captain Lorca and Commander Saru. Saru demonstrates how to support an idea that he doesn't agree with. Michael Burnham reinforces the lessons we learned in TOS: The Devil in the Dark. And Lorca is...well...he's terrible. Jobob, Warden, and Willy break down their impressions of the third episode of season one of Star Trek: Discovery. Includes discussions of technology, Captain Lorca and his odd understanding of lighting. The nature of fake science. The angelic connections of Burnham and Lorca. continued suspect mission planning, character likability, more ship stuff (USS Discovery), the shows place in the Star Trek Canon and more. No substantive plot spoilers for recent media. For anything prior to 2015 you're on your own.All opinions are our own. If you like something we don't: Great! Enjoy! We're glad you do! Everyone needs their thing. (Willy's audio is better which made us aware of other audio issues. We continue to learn and thank you for hanging in there with us.)
Would you believe it? Another week, and another new episode of the It's Got Star Trek podcast! In this new entry to our rapidly-expanding library of insightful, irreverent (and ultimately irrelevant) audio recordings, your hosts discuss the first two episodes of Star Trek: Discovery, 'The Vulcan Hello' and 'Battle at the Binary Stars.' There will be praise, there will be frustration, and, most importantly, there will be references to the Klingon blood scientist from Enterprise. Oh, before you ask, yes we will be covering the third episode, "Context is for Kings," next week since that is essentially a second pilot for the series. Note that this episode was not sponsored by Siggi's Icelandic-style Triple Cream Vanilla skyr yogurt, no matter what you think you might have heard. Subscribe to the It's Got Star Trek Podcast on Apple Podcasts, Google Play, Spotify, Stitcher, or whichever clever podcast app you are most fond of. Note that this and all episodes of the It's Got Star Trek podcast contain explicit language and, frankly, an unnecessary amount of offensive content, so the show is intended only for adults and really really cool kids. There was a lot to unpack after the one-two punch of Discovery's slam-bang premiere, and many questions left unanswered. But thankfully Captain Lorca has arrived to give us some context. Or has he? This week hosts Cam Smith and Tyler Orton, along with special guest Vicki Siu, dive into the series' first post-Shenzou episode which introduces viewers to the titular ship and its alternately quirky and mysterious crew. Over the course of a lively discussion, the trio offer their first impressions on Jason Isaac's ominous captain, as well as major players Cadet Tilly and Commander Landry, and debate what impact the addition of spores and ravenous space-beasts will have on Michael Burnham's increasingly complicated journey. Plus, as usual, the reliable ship Ortonville docks in order to unload his thoughts regarding episode four of The Orville, If the Stars Should Appear. Right-click to download.Read more »
Alternate Crew. When the NX-01 Enterprise was completed, Starfleet knew that the first warp five-capable ship needed a crew who were at the top of their respective fields. This new class of starship would be traveling to places previously unseen by human eyes, and developing new relationships (and, sometimes, rivalries) with new species. The crew had to be not only extremely capable, but also adaptable, as they literally did not know what they would find beyond the boundaries of the Sol system. And so, a question came to mind - would any crew members from other Star Trek series fit into these same positions on the NX-01? In this episode of Warp Five hosts Brandon-Shea Mutala, Patrick Devlin, and Brandi Jackola reveal their other series picks for the NX-01 bridge crew. They discuss death glares, Captain Lorca's tribble, fitting in with season three, Voyagerprise, THE WOMEN!, engineering vs. science, and how with a different captain, movie night might turn into karaoke night. Star Trek: Discovery – Season 2 and Picard Show News Roundtable! It’s finally time for us to bring you our long-awaited Season 2 News and Picard Show Roundtable!!! Recorded on September 8th, Ruthie and I were joined by two past roundtable participants – Mark Des Cotes from Solo Talk Media, and Steve Brown of the Panels to Pixels Podcast, and two new participants – Mark Deal and Wes Huntington from The Minnesota Star Trek Nerd Podcast. We had some recording glitches during this episode, including some we didn’t know about at the time. More on that later. We start with the news… We reacted to the former co-showrunners Gretchen J. Berg and Aaron Harberts being fired from the show for both budget concerns and abuse in the writers’ room. We discussed the announcement of Alex Kurtzman becoming the new showrunner and James Duff later made an executive producer and probable next showrunner. Then, we reacted to the casting announcements of Anson Mount as Captain Christopher Pike, Rebecca Romijn as Number One, and, most recently, Ethan Peck as Spock. Onto the trailer!!! Most of us had seen the trailer (one exception… and you’ll have to listen to find out who hasn’t), but we talk about the trailer and our reactions to it. We also talk about what we would like to see in Season 2. Jean-Luc Picard… Is Back!!! After that, we then spend a good deal of time discussing last month’s announcement at Star Trek Las Vegas that the next Star Trek series will be focused around Jean-Luc Picard. We reacted to that announcement; we dissected some of what Patrick Stewart said about the show is and isn’t, and we speculated what the show will be about. What we think some of the other shows might be was also discussed. We finally get to some undiscussed feedback!!! Ruthie and I finally go through some feedback that came in after the end of the season. We recorded that feedback separately, so the other panelists do not participate during that section of the podcast. We STILL didn’t cover EVERYTHING… The “Short Treks“, four shorts covering short stories within the Star Trek: Discovery universe, were not covered in this roundtable. In hindsight, we probably should have. On September 20th, CBS announced that the first of these Short Treks – a Tilly story called Runaway – would be released on October 4th. This would be followed by shorts in November, December, and January. We will definitely be covering the Short Treks next time. A few days after we recorded, CBS CEO Les Moonves resigned amidst allegations of sexual harassment, and since he’s been the driving force behind CBS All Access, I’m sure we will have more to say about this next time. We also didn’t talk much about the existing characters, some of the people involved in the Picard show, like Pulitzer Prize-winning author Michael Chabon, who also wrote one of the Short Treks, TNG cast talking about the Pi

We hit Latitude Festival's Film & Music Arena to discuss the future of space exploration in a little panel we called Space: The New Final Frontier. Joining us were the magnificent Hero Baldwin, planetary physicist and winner of the BBC's So You Want To Be An Astronaut? Suzie Imber, our very own ESA senior advisor for science and exploration Mark McCaughrean, and Jason Isaacs, aka Lucius Malfoy or Captain Lorca, take your pick!
Captain Lorca. We first meet Captain Gabriel Lorca in “Context Is for Kings,” the third episode of Star Trek: Discovery, and quickly learn that his command and leadership style is vastly different from that of any captain we've seen before. He is flippant, abrasive, and obsessed with winning the war against the Klingons. And, as we later learn, he has ulterior motives. In this episode of The Edge, hosts Amy Nelson and Patrick Devlin are joined by Ken Tripp of Standard Orbit to discuss the intricacies of Lorca's command style and his varied interactions with his crew. We discuss his autocratic approach to leadership and how the crew responds. We also examine the appropriateness of his relationships with Admiral Cornwell and Michael Burnham, and consider how our view of this complex character changed after learning that he is from the Mirror Universe. Star Trek: Discovery – Season 1 Roundtable! It’s finally time for us to bring you our long-awaited Season 1 Roundtable!!! Recorded on March 30th, Ruthie and I were joined by my former co-host Adam, of The Nerfherder Council Podcast and Steve of the Panels to Pixels Podcast. Unfortunately, our stellar feedback contributor Mark, from Solo Talk Media, was sick on this night. Steve was able to fill the fourth seat, on short notice, and he was great! We also learn about his… well… let’s say Steve REALLY loves Denise Crosby! Starting with the season as a whole… We had some discussion as to whether the serialized format of the show led to us not being able to highlight specific episodes. We had a split vote. The Mirror Universe! When we had our first roundtable, we hadn’t gone to the Mirror Universe yet, so we talk about the Mirror Universe in detail, and its impact on the season. You can’t talk about the Mirror Universe without talking about Lorca!!! Jason Isaacs was incredible in the role of Captain Gabriel Lorca, a Federation Captain with a different way of doing things. Many were complaining that he did not act like a Starfleet captain. We later learn why… he’s from the Mirror Universe! Mirror Georgiou is an interesting character… The Mirror Georgiou, former emperor of the Terran Empire, now stranded in the Prime Universe, we all agreed is a very interesting character, and we hope that we’ll get to see a lot of her next season. If you haven’t seen it yet, check out the bonus scene that was shown at WonderCon a few weeks ago, with Georgiou and a representative from an organization you may have heard of! I said the last episode that I wondered if Georgiou would become an agent of Section 31, or running the whole thing. After watching that scene, it seems that I may have been right! Yeah, Tyler, Voq, the Klingons in general and the war… We’re all a bit underwhelmed by the Tyler/Voq story and how little we got to see of the war. Of course, we can’t go an episode without talking about how much we dislike the Klingons… big shock there. All the rest We go a long way into this episode before we really talk much about Burnham at all. Tilly’s character we all love, and we also discuss Saru and Stamets. We hope to see more of the bridge crew next season, which is why I picked this image for the episode! NCC-17… We had this roundtable before the recent announcement of Anson Mount taking the role of Captain Pike of the Enterprise in Season 2. We still wonder who will take the Discovery’s captain’s chair. It could be Pike’s Number One (as seen in the TOS pilot episode The Cage), Saru, or someone else, even a not dead Prime Lorca. We’ll still have to guess. We still wonder how much the Enterprise will play into Season 2, as well as how well the show will fit into canon. So that’s it… and remember to pour one out to Lieutenant Yar for Steve! I could use your help… We last talk about whether or not we are dropping CBS All Access. The vote was 2 dropping, 1 keeping, and 1 abstention. Unfortunately, though I would love to keep watching the show, I had to drop my subscription, due to financia

After the mission at Pahvo proves to be a failure, Starfleet orders Captain Lorca to bring the discovery into the safety of Federation space even though that means the Pahvans will surely meet their doom at the hands of the Klingons, so instead, Captain Lorca feigns problems with his spore drive to buy the crew time to come up with a solution. The solution the come up with is quite complex but its the best they've got and so they get right to it, hoping their efforts will end the war by disabling the one advantage the Klingons have over the Federation, a cloaking screen. The crew are successful and they even manage to recover Admiral Cornwall and manage to capture the Klingon L'Rell along the way, but it comes at great cost to poor Commander Tyler and just when we think they'll get a rest, the Discovery jumps to an unknown place that is not registering on any star charts. Is she in another dimension, or universe, perhaps the mirror Universe, perhaps the prime timeline? We'll have to wait till January 7th to find out but you can find out what we thought of this episode of Star Trek Discovery by tuning in.
Sarek is badly injured when a diplomatic mission is sabotaged by a Vulcan extremist and Micheal Burnham's unique link to him through his Katra allows her to become aware of his peril. The discovery rushes to his aide and in the meantime Captain Lorca is faced with some tough situations when he's forced to confront his problems by his friend, Admiral Cornwell In the end Sarek is safe and Burnham discovers a secret he's been holding on to for many years simultaneously endearing him to her further and threatening more alienation. But she's fine with it. Find out what we think of this episode of Star Trek Discovery and let us know what you think as well. This is the episode where David admits he was wrong about everything about Lorca. Captain Lorca is from the Mirror Universe. Sorry. After some discussion, Zach convinces David that Voq is not gone, but merely suppressed within Ash Tyler’s mind. David tries his hardest to figure out how Prime Lorca may still be alive, somewhere out there in the Mirror Universe; Zach completely disagrees and he’s planting his flag on the theory that Prime Lorca did not survive. We’ll see who is right (probably Zach).
In Episode 12, ‘Vaulting Ambition,’ we find ourselves still in the Mirror Universe with ever increasing danger. Michael Burnham and Captain Lorca are summoned to the Emperor’s Palace ship, the ISS Charon, to confront the Terran Emperor, a ruthless Mirror version of Captain Philippa Georgiou. She sentences Lorca to suffer unending pain for the remainder of his life in the Agonizer for the failed coup attempt he led. To celebrate his capture the Emperor invites Michael to dine with her on fresh Kelpian soup. It’s at this dinner that Mirror Georgiou reveals she had uncovered Mirror Burnham’s betrayal and sentences her to death for treason. To save herself and salvage her mission, Michael confesses her true identity as an agent of the Federation. She proves her claims by showing the Emperor the Prime Georgiou’s delta pin that Michael had retrived from Kol. Mirror Georgiou agrees to spare Michael’s life and the Discovery crew, if she will share the schematics for their spore propulsion drive. Georgiou also provides Michael with information about her Doppelgänger and Lorca that convinces Michael that the man she has been serving with actually is the treasonous conspirator of the Mirror universe. Simultaneously with this revelation, Lorca escapes the agonizer booth and reconfirms his identity as Mirror Lorca. Stamets, whose consciousness is trapped within the mycellial network, must find a way to reconnect with his physical body in hopes it will save himself. Culber reappears to Stamets to inform him of his fate, but also to let him know that nothing truly dies. He tells him Mirror Stamets is not to be trusted and is responsible for an infection that is destroying the mycelial network and, ultimately, life itself throughout the multiverse. Back on the Discovery in sickbay, Lt. Ash Tyler is at war within himself as two consciousness – Tyler and Voq - violently battle for control of his body. Saru seeks L’Rell’s help to resolve the matter. He transports Tyler into L’Rell’s cell and tells her she will have to deal with him whether she wants to or not. L’Rell consents and performs a procedure on Tyler that supposedly has terminated Voq’s consciousness.
And that's a wrap on the first half of Star Trek: Discovery Season 1! This week's episode, "Into the Forest I Go," marked the conclusion of “Chapter One” of the first year, and it was a doozy. From Klingon battles to 133 spore-jumps to Captain Lorca pulling some very Captain Lorca moves, the episode was jam-packed!
It's another week of Star Trek being the most (or least) progressive show on television, with F-Bombs, gay couples, political and social debates, and lots of Tardigrades, Tardigrades, Tardigrades. Colin and Jamie are back to recap the fifth episode of the season, where we finally get to see some characters in action that are not named Michael Burnham. While Saru, Stamets and Captain Lorca take the spotlight, Jamie finds a way to become attached to another background character. Meanwhile has something in this episode made Colin wet his pants? Jamie even teaches us a new word none of knew existed, including Google. And believe it or not that word is not Tardigrade, Tardigrade, Tardigrade. Get ready to choose your pain, which is probably this very podcast.★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
This week we talk about Episode 3 of Discovery. We meet the charming/sinister Captain Lorca. We talk about the brand new Kitty aboard, the shiny new Discovery, Saru is back and we love him and somehow we recorded everything on my fan running in the background. So that's annoying. But this week I never say "Question mark?"--MG
