Kinsella on Liberty Podcast: Episode 491. https://youtu.be/lfjpoKCWBDA I've known Paul Cwik, Professor of Economics and Finance at the University of Mount Olive and fellow of the Mises Institute since I started attending the Austrian Scholars Conference in 1995. He is an Austrian and libertarian of sorts but had some qualms with my anti-IP writing so presented a paper "Is There Room for Intellectual Property Rights in Austrian Economics?" at the Austrian Scholars Conference in 2008, which I attended and commented on. After 18 years we finally decided to get around to talking about this. I had planned on an hour but we ended up talking for 3. It turns out we were old friends but not that close; we didn't know much about each other. So the first 30-50 minutes or so is more preliminary discussion. To his credit, he read a good deal of the huge deluge of material I sent to read up on and asked many very good questions. He did not engage in intentional equivocation that is characteristic of many on the pro-IP side, and he was reasonable in conceding many of my points and was willing to ponder my push back. I was hoping to get him to see the light, since I have in person seen many people change their minds on IP after a long discussion but have never had it happen while recording. We did not resolve the issue, partly because we just didn't have enough time to keep going, but I think we made some progress. Maybe we will have a Part 2 later. Who knows. Teď nemá vyzývatele, který by byl schopen získat 51 procent hlasů,“ říká prezidentům mluvčí Vít Kolář.„Když se podíváte na žebříčky sociologických průzkumů, ať už v popularitě, nebo i přímo dotazované na to, zda by ho lidé volili jako prezidenta, tak tam není nikdo, kdo by se jeho číslům blížil,“ dovysvětluje Kolář, který na Pražském hradě vede tiskový odbor a prezidentovu komunikaci řídí od podzimu 2023. Podcastu Mediální cirkus teď dal první rozhovor o tom, jak vypadá zákulisí práce pro hlavu státu.Šetření s prezidentem„Je to zábavné, rozmanité, samozřejmě těžké, občas frustrující, ale práce s prezidentem je skvělá a možnost být takhle blízko důležitým událostem mě naplňuje,“ začíná své povídání v podcastu Kolář. A jak odolává tomu, aby na Hradě nepropadl přílišnému pocitu výjimečnosti?„Nemyslím si, že to je věc, které se nedá odolat, ale vliv to má. Zřejmě ten výhled, ty stěny, možná výjimečnost těch paláců má dopad na lidskou psychiku a jednání,“ říká napůl vážně a napůl s nadsázkou.Kolář se práci tiskového mluvčího věnuje dlouhé roky. Na Hrad přišel z České televize, kde přes deset let vedl komunikaci pro ředitele Petra Dvořáka.„Já bych rád šetřil s prezidentem, ale nabídek na rozhovory přichází obrovské množství. To není možné vůbec vměstnat do prezidentova kalendáře. Mám takový mustr a potom máme žolíky a divoké karty, kdy se prezident rozhodne: ‚Tohlet chci udělat, protože se mi to hrozně zdá sympatické.‘ Tak to uděláme,“ popisuje Kolář to, jak na Hradě rozhodují o prezidentových mediálních výstupech. Žádostí o rozhovor prý chodí zhruba sto měsíčně. Prezidentovým „žolíkem“ pak jsou rozhovory třeba pro motorkáře, armádu nebo pro děti.„Asi nejvýrazněji se potíme u některých rozhovorů pro zahraniční média. Čeští novináři z nich pak začnou citovat. A to samozřejmě vždycky v nejméně vhodnou dobu, protože jsme si mysleli, že to bude rozhovor o velkých zahraničních tématech třeba v souvislosti s nějakou cestou prezidenta,“ přiznává mluvčí.Kolář má vedle zkušeností mluvčího i ty diplomatické. Jednak vedl komunikaci ministerstva zahraničí pro ministry Cyrila Svobodu a Karla Schwarzenberga, a pak také sám čtyři roky působil na konzulátu v Austrálii.Prezident glosátor„Prezident se v poslední době stává glosátorem všeho politického dění. Dříve se novináři  ptali opozice. Teď se zeptají vlády na nějakou věc a na druhé straně je prezident. Co si myslíte o tomhle zákonu? Co si myslíte o tomhle výroku Andreje Babiše? Co si myslíte o tomhle výroku Tomia Okamury? To je komunikace, která nepřísluší prezidentovi. Prezident by si měl vybrat témata, která považuje za důležitá a v těch být aktivní, ale nechytat se všech i plevelnatých výroků,“ říká jeho mluvčí.Dotazy na veškeré dění okolo souvisí ale i s tím, že se prezident dostal do pozice hlavního politického oponenta vlády. A toho využívá i kabinet samotný - o prezidentovi mluví jako o lídrovi opozice.„S tím se bojuje těžce. Tu otázku dostávám, samozřejmě i interně, jakým způsobem pracovat s tou nálepkou. Myslím, že to vlastně je v pořádku, že se s tím moc dělat nedá. Za lídra opozice ho označovat současná koalice bude. Vnímám to jako taktiku a vlastně nevidím důvod, proč ztrácet obrovské množství energie tuhle nálepku sundávat. Prezident by měl svým konáním, svými rozhodnutími a svou prací ukazovat, že je prezidentem všech, nebo že se snaží být,“ přemýšlí nahlas Kolář, který na Hradě nahradil tým Markéty Řehákové. Ta pro Pavla pracovala v prezidentské kampani a chvíli po jeho zvolení.Petr Pavel dosud definitivně nepotvrdil, že bude kandidovat znovu. Nedávno prohlásil, že ale zatím nevidí jiného kandidáta na hlavu státu, kterého by případně sám chtěl volit. Pokud se situace nezmění, je připraven jít do boje o Hrad i podruhé. „Neznám osobnosti, které se budou do té volby hlásit. To bude velmi důležité, ale teď jsem přesvědčený o tom, že by vyhrál,“ říká Kolář. Jak se staví komunikace hlavy státu? Jak na Hradě bojují s dezinformace kolem prezidenta? Each morning, before the Korbanot section, we recite a prayer ("Ribon Ha'olamim") in which we acknowledge our lowliness, recognizing that we are unworthy of G-d's kindness, and that even the most powerful are weak in relation to G-d and even the wisest are ignorant in relation to G-d. In this prayer, we humbly confess, "Ki Chol Ma'asenu Tohu" – "for all our actions are worthless." The obvious question arises as to how we can make such a pronouncement. After all, while we must all acknowledge that we are far from perfect, is it true that "all our actions are worthless"? We spend time praying, learning Torah, and performing acts of kindness for others, we give charity, and we do numerous worthwhile things throughout the day, every day. We of course all have much room for improvement, and, unfortunately, we are all guilty of wasting time on vanity, but it certainly seems exaggerated to claim that nothing we do has any value. Due to this question, there were some Poskim who changed the text of the phrase – replacing the word "Kol" ("all") with the word "Rob" ("most"). With this emendation, the text acknowledges that most of our actions are valueless, as we pursue vanity, but not that we never involve ourselves in meaningful activities such as prayer, Misvot and Torah study. However, the word "Kol" appears in all the texts that we have from earlier generations – including the text of the Rambam, Rav Amram Gaon, the Tur, and the Abudarham. Therefore, it seems very difficult to emend the text and change "Kol" to "Rob." The explanation, as Rav Yisrael Bitan discusses, likely stems from a comment of the Midrash (Vayikra Rabba 28:1) interpreting the verse in Kohelet (1:3), "Ma Yitron La'adam Be'chol Amalo" – "What does a person gain from all his toil?" The Midrash notes that certainly, there is much gained from a person's toil in Torah study, but Kohelet speaks of "Amalo" – a person's own "toil," meaning, that which he does for himself, for his own enjoyment and satisfaction. The "toil" that a person engages in for G-d, so-to-speak – his efforts in Torah and Misvot – are certainly precious and immensely valuable. It is only "Amalo" – his self-serving pursuits – that offer him no benefit. Likewise, we may explain the phrase "Ki Chol Ma'asenu Tohu" to mean that "Ma'asenu" – everything we do for ourselves, and not for the service of Hashem – has no value or significance. Therefore, we should not change the text to "Rob," and should instead maintain the text found in earlier sources – "Ki Chol Ma'asenu Tohu."
