This is NOT a political podcast HOWEVER in this episode, we will converse a bit about borders (immigration), boundaries (as in personal boundaries), and talk about how “food is our common ground” (to quote James Beard). You’ll hear more of my conversation with Izabela Wojcik from the James Beard House. Izabela immigrated from Poland as a child and she shares her unique perspective on immigration and believes in “diplomacy through food”. We also dive into the wonderful thing that can happen when cultures collide – the fusion of delicious foods! You’ll get the recipe for my favorite homemade fusion dish – Braised Pork Bowls. And I’ll share a few tips on how to establish and maintain healthy interpersonal boundaries because healthy boundaries make for healthy relationships. xo @donnabrittcooks

This is my first podcast featuring an interview and I’m so excited to share it with you!  I’m talking with Izabela Wojcik from the James Beard House in NYC. She’s the person who’s in charge of finding all the great chefs who get to cook their food at the House and she’s also one of the most open-hearted, loving people I’ve ever met.  In this episode Izabela talks about immigrating from Poland as a child, giving up on a childhood dream, how food TV changed her relationship with her father and she also shares some quick pro tips for fast, nourishing family dinners. I love spending time with this great lady who literally gives the best hugs ever !!   By the way, if you don’t know who James Beard is or what his House is all about, you’ll learn about that too … thanks for listening. xo @donnabrittcooks

Izabela Wojcik knows a thing or two about the restaurant industry. She’s the Director of House Programming at the James Beard Foundation and she’s this week’s guest on All in the Industry. Tune in and learn how food became the fabric of Izabela’s life and what it’s like working as a staff member at the prestigious James Beard Foundation. From her background to her current work – Izabela has some incredible insights into the industry. Find out what’s up at the James Beard House and what went into making the 2014 James Beard Awards such a smashing success! This program was sponsored by The International Culinary Center. “I have the best food job in the world!” [12:00] “For PR purposes it’s all about relationships and working at the Beard house is no different. There’s an opportunity — and lots of chefs would love that opportunity. The criteria I use is to look at a chefs biography and see where they’re working. I consider any press they receive, to see how it would be positioned in the community. I also keep in mind that the role of the Beard House is not to showcase chefs critically – it’s more about whether or not they can pull off a meal for 80 people with 5 courses.” [21:00] –Izabela Wojcik on All in the Industry
