Dr. Marc Feldman describes people’s strange motivations to fabricate or induce illness or injury to satisfy deep emotional needs. ... From the mother who shaves her child’s head and tells her community he has cancer, to the co-worker who suffers from a string of incomprehensible "tragedies," to the false epilepsy victim who monopolizes her online support group, "disease forgery" is ever-present in the media and in many people’s lives.

--Buy Josh's album from his band "Dancing with Ghosts" right here: https://bit.ly/2G6TFQK --Consider supporting us on Patreon: https://bit.ly/2Dfa4iv ---------- This week's episode is special as we are joined by Stephanie from Josh's band Dancing With Ghosts. She's filling in for Mike and providing a female opinion on the podcast. Hazel Head preyed on unsuspecting lonely men who were looking for companionship. Also, in a podcast first, we cover a case we've ALREADY TALKED ABOUT! (It was bound to happen at some point). However this time around you'll get Stephanie's perspective as we examine the devious Elizabeth Ortiz. She attempted to murder her husband Gilbert by poisoning his protein shake. Finally we end the fraud case of Tom Hughes. Hughes was a ''professional hospital patient'' who was constantly checking in to hospitals and complaining of various ailments. He was possibly suffering from Munchausen's Syndrome. ---------- Want more Mike and Josh? Check out their separate but equally awesome YouTube channels! Our second chapter focuses on a case of Munchausen by Proxy - but this time the perpetrator is a health care worker preying on unsuspecting hospital patients. Beverley Allitt was a British serial killer dubbed "The Angel of Death". Many believe she killed because she had Munchausen's Syndrome. Others simply believe she was an evil person who used her position to attack the most vulnerable - the young and helpless.     Save

File on 4 investigates claims that parents whose children suffer from a crippling illness that leaves them sick and permanently exhausted have been falsely accused of child abuse. Parents of children with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) reveal how they have been investigated and referred for child protection measures on suspicion of a rare form of child abuse known as Fabricated or Induced Illness (FII). FII, also sometimes known as Munchausen's Syndrome by Proxy, is extremely rare and occurs when a parent or carer exaggerates or deliberately causes the symptoms of a child's illness. One charity says FII is being used inappropriately by education and health professionals. We talk to families who claim the stress caused by this accusation has made their children worse. With doctors divided over the best way to treat children, what's the impact on families? Reporter: Matthew Hill Producer: Nicola Dowling.
