Highway 16 in northern British Columbia looks, at first glance, like any other remote road: mountains, forests, rivers, small towns, and long stretches of empty pavement. But for decades, this corridor became known by a much darker name — the Highway of Tears. This episode of Terrifying & True investigates the real history behind one of Canada's most devastating true crime cases: the disappearances and murders of women and girls along Highway 16 and nearby routes, many of them Indigenous. Officially, the RCMP's Project E-PANA includes eighteen cases, but families, advocates, and Indigenous organizations have long argued that the true number may be higher. We examine the victims, the isolated geography, the lack of safe transportation, the failures of policing and media attention, and the systemic conditions that allowed danger to persist for decades. This is not a story about one cursed road or one simple explanation. It is a story about grief, survival, ignored warnings, and families who refused to let their loved ones disappear from memory. The Highway of Tears remains one of the most haunting examples of how true crime can expose something larger than a single mystery: a pattern of violence, silence, and systemic failure that continues to demand answers. We're telling that story tonight.

In this episode, True Crime Medieval brings you two crimes, a father and son, both murdered in churches, though for different reasons altogether. Canute had enraged the peasants and nobility both, by enforcing the collection of tithes, while Charles had infuriated a badly behaved but powerful family which took it amiss when Charles attempted to make them stop gouging peasants during a famine. Michelle is both scandalized and gratified by getting to talk about Yet Another Sacrilegious Murder In A Church, and Anne is delighted by finding a hotel in Bruges that has a hard to find museum in its basement, the foundations of the cathedral that Charles the Good was murdered in. Because apparently the French revolution took down the church but missed the basement.

On August 24, 410 AD, the Visigoths walked into Rome. They didn't break down the gates. They didn't storm the walls. The gates were opened from the inside — by slaves, by people who had been living under the Empire for years and had quietly stopped believing in it.The conventional story of the Sack of Rome is barbarian invasion. Fire and screaming. Civilization ending in a single night. That's the Hollywood version. The reality is quieter and worse.Rome wasn't murdered. It was hollowed out over more than two centuries by three forces that had nothing to do with barbarians. The first was money. The silver denarius had been debased so consistently that by 410 the coins were essentially worthless metal stamped with the emperor's face — a promise nobody believed anymore. Soldiers stopped showing up because they were being paid with garbage. Tax collectors demanded payment in gold and silver because the state's own currency wasn't worth taking. The second was borders. On the last day of 406, the Rhine froze and tens of thousands of Vandals, Suebi, and Alans walked across into Roman Gaul. The forts along the river were empty or close to it. The garrisons had been pulled back, stripped to fight civil wars in Italy, or simply never replaced. The frontier wasn't overrun. It was abandoned. The third was power. The Emperor Honorius was hiding in Ravenna — a swamp city with marsh walls — issuing laws that nobody enforced. When they told him Rome had fallen, he thought they meant his pet chicken, a bird he had named Roma. He had become emperor at eight years old. He had never led an army, never governed a province, never made a decision that wasn't filtered through palace bureaucrats more interested in their own survival than the Empire's.When Alaric's Visigoths arrived at the gates of Rome in August 410, the city's own slaves opened them.Rome didn't fall that day. Not really. The Visigoths left after three days. Honorius stayed in Ravenna. The Empire limped on for another 66 years. But everyone who mattered understood what 410 meant. The machine had been failing for centuries. The sack was just the paperwork catching up.Empires don't fall. They hollow out. And hollowing is worse than falling — because from the outside, everything still looks intact.00:00 — Rome Wasn't Murdered, It Was Hollowed Out01:54 — Welcome to The Roman Pattern02:19 — Rome in 410: A Theater Set03:06 — Two Centuries of Debasement05:15 — December 406: When the Rhine Froze06:53 — Alaric: The Visigoth Who Wanted to Be Roman08:16 — Honorius and His Chicken Named Roma09:10 — August 24, 410: The Gates Open From Inside10:29 — Saint Jerome Wept in Bethlehem11:50 — Why Rome Didn't Fall (Yet)12:44 — The Three-Link Chain: Money, Borders, Power14:02 — Hollowing Is Worse Than Falling14:53 — The Universal Pattern15:55 — Same Playbook, Different Century

She had been to a friend's home in the Forest Lake neighborhood to watch an episode of "Downton Abbey."Ragsdale was a well-known, well-liked member of the Tuscaloosa and University of Alabama communities. Friends have described her as having a giving nature and vivacious spirit.Investigators have interviewed more than 200 people about the Ragsdale case and they say it's very possible they've spoken to the killer. You asked for it….get ready for the ultimate deep dive digging into the over 13 missing and murdered scientists over the past few years. We are starting with the most infamous, disturbing, and head scratching case of Amy Eskridge. Get ready to go down the rabbit hole with us. It's a wild ride.
In 1988, on a beautiful day in Belen, New Mexico, a 19-year-old woman got ready to do one of her favorite things: her daily bike ride. She put on a white t-shirt with the local bank's logo on it, white shorts with green stripes, and white sneakers. She grabbed her bright yellow Walkman with a Boston cassette tape. Before leaving home on a neon pink mountain bike, she told her mom, “Come and get me if I'm not back by noon.” It was the same route she took everyday. At some point, the route she knew by heart - took a terribly wrong turn. The punctual college student did not make it back by noon. No one could predict that this daily exercise routine that brought her so much joy would haunt her name and her family for the rest of their lives. It's now been 35 years since that fateful bike ride and the mystery of what happened to her has never been answered. Her name is Tara Calico. This is her story. Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI tip line at 1-800-CALL-FBI or the sheriff's office at 505-866-2400. New talking points have dropped: sure, Jewish Bolsheviks overthrew the Czar and murdered millions of Christians, but that's the fault of Britain says Infowars; sure, Adolf was right about immigration and cultural preservation, but he was still wrong because he “mind fucked,” according to Asmondgold, western civilization into never resisting cultural destruction — it wasn't a century of Jewish propaganda; sure, Glenn Beck, who wrote a letter begging Israel for citizenship, is right about a foreign influence operation targeting Americans, but its those Russians and not the vast network of Canary Mission, Axonius, Palantir, AIPAC, Show Faith Works, Hollywood, general media, and social media, etc. And sure, as Alex Jones recently said, Israel was embracing “every stereotype of wanting world domination,” but only because we pressured them into adopting that identity. Meanwhile, the argument between Trump and Netanyahu is almost surely a manufactured production, as occurred before the initial attacks on Iran, meant to confuse people as H.R. 8800 merges the United States and Israel into one corporate national system. *The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements. Revolution: How the Castros Lied, Cheated, and Murdered Their Way Into Power by Al Romero https://www.amazon.com/Revolution-Castros-Cheated-Murdered-Their/dp/1642145521 REVOLUTION is a thrilling novel of intrigue, deception, betrayal, courage and the remarkable resilience of the human spirit under unbelievable circumstances. It illustrates how Fidel and his brother Raul lied to the Cuban people, cheated those who helped them fight against Batista and murdered their way into power, removing anyone and everyone they saw as a threat. Revolution is the story of the Quintanas, an ordinary middle class family thrown into the turbulence of a civil war during the Cuban Revolution, as they witness their normal everyday lives change dramatically for the worse and watch as family members turn against each other. Joaquin Quintana is one of the original 82 men who landed in Cuba with Fidel to fight against Batista and liberate their country from that dictatorship. He rises to a high level position among the rebels and becomes part of Castro’s inner circle. After consolidating power, Fidel aligns Cuba with the Soviet Union and many of the men and women who fought with him against Batista are rounded up, jailed or executed. Joaquin, disillusioned with how the new regime has bastardized the ideals that he and so many of the rebels fought for and believes Fidel and his brother Raul orchestrated the murder of his friend and great revolutionary leader Camilo Cienfuegos, makes the decision to work with the CIA to over throw the Castro regime. Joaquin’s bothers Diego and Cesar, join him in plotting against Fidel while Elena, Diego’s daughter, becomes a blind and fervent disciple of Castro. Revolution was inspired by the family of the author Al Romero

It's our post-Double or Nothing episode and you'll never BELIEVE the quality of the opinions you'll hear from us: that's right, they're bad. Think of someone with good taste, someone the IWC would like and respect, and then reverse those opinions! We're pervert perverts, not moves perverts, and we WON'T apologize. Anyway, we take you through what we loved, what we hated, what we snoozed to and what we jerked off to. Plus, a few meditations on an extended AEW sleepover our son is having at our shared house, and what Andrade gets up to in his spare time (hunting and skinning Mickey Mouse). Enjoy us!
