On Thursday December 20th, members of the Puerto Rican Independence Party gathered at the Administrative Offices of the Rochester City School District to protest proposed cuts to RCSD staff. We spoke with one of the organizers of that protest about the international character of austerity and solidarity, and about how Puerto Rican students in Rochester have been doubly harmed by cuts to public education. Paul Figueroa is the former coordinator of the Puerto Rican Independence Party (PIP) in Rochester. He did his student teaching in the RCSD, and he currently teaches 7th and 10th grade in San Juan. He's running for San Juan City Council as a member of PIP. He spoke with WXIR's Darien Lamen ahead of the Rochester School Board's vote approving mid-year cuts to 155 positions.

On Thursday December 16, 2010, Daniel Ellsberg, FBI whistleblower Coleen Rowley, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Chris Hedges, Code Pink activist Medea Benjamin, physician Margaret Flowers, former CIA analyst Ray McGovern and others joined Veterans for Peace in a protest in front of the White House.  131 chose to be arrested. The December 21 edition of Tell Somebody featured Ray McGovern recounting the days events and giving some of his thoughts about Wikileaks, Julian Assange and Bradley Manning.
